Heard about this place and after trying for my self - definitely don't see what all the hype is about this spot. Very disappointing! Was told to get the larger roll - that it would be huge and plenty to feed 2 people, so we did. When it came to the table our response was "this is the large" ?? For that price!! Was definitely NOT enough for 2 people, it's more like a child size! Definitely wasn't worth $36 just for the lobster roll alone! Total bill for 2 drinks, basket of fries and lobster roll $54.00 Wasted money! Save yourself the disappointment and try out another spot, there's so many options. They're ridiculously priced for the quality and quantity of food. The place itself is small, maybe 5 tables and the place was hot inside - you order at the counter and they bring you the food - you have to climb stairs to get inside - not handicap accessible. Just awful - like a cafeteria with no real kitcheen, just frier behind small counter. Had high hopes for fried oysters, they were inedible - dry, tiny, bitter. Side was tiny portion of small fries and tiny cup of cole slaw I think came from commercial tub. Partner had lobster rolls, also awful - dry, stale. Nothing made from scratch here, all frozen or bulk bought from some distributor. No ice tea, lemonade, just soda with so much ice you couldn't taste it. I've been waiting and wanting to try this place since I first heard about it. I'd researched the menu; it's go time! The lobster bisque wasn't under or over seasoned. You could definitely taste the lobster but married with the other flavors, not overpowering. I ordered the smaller lobster roll since I went with the bowl of bisque. It was just the right size. Any more and I wouldn't have been able to finish it in one sitting. The workers? Owners? Doing the cooking took time to acknowledge the tip I dropped in the jar; they seemed genuinely appreciative of it. The lady that took my order and brought the food out was very polite and pleasant. This was a lucky find. Hubs is from north of Boston, so he knows and loves properly prepared lobster roll. He was in seventh heaven. Everything was fresh and delicious and quickly served. Well... I'm pretty sure this place has given me food poisoning so I'm actually giving it a -100 stars. I ordered the lobster mac; which is just penne pasta with some pieces of lobster and melted cheese on the top. Maybe the dish was microwaved and this is what made me sick. My husband had the "New Englander" and it was disappointing to say the least (no flavor). He didn't get sick so I am guessing it was not the lobster or maybe he has an iron stomach. We came near closing to order to go. Everyone was very friendly and they got our order out fast. We got the Bostonian with butter - it was pretty bland. We ordered clam chowder and lobster bisque. The clam chowder was very good but the lobster bisque was very thin and had an odd flavor. We asked if they would switch it with another cup of the clam chowder and they accommodated us no questions asked which was very nice! Lobstah on a Roll is a great dining addition to Downtown St Augustine. After enjoying their Boston location for several years, we were all ecstatic to see them opening a location closer to home. Their incomparable lobster rolls and chowder are as tasty here as they are in their New England location. We were also pleased to see that they kept many of the menu items from Bantam Chef, including the original big fish sandwich (though now it's wicked big). Walking inside, you will feel like you're in a New England fishing shack. The staff is friendly and the place is inviting. I am looking forward to returning many times. read more

Bright and cheery, this unassuming lobster spot does not disappoint! Order at the counter and sit amongst the decor that will have you feeling like you are in Kennebunkport, Maine. We tried Lobstah on a Roll the other day for the first time. I must say that the photos posted on Google are a misrepresentation of their food. I did call as I had questions prior to ordering to know how many appetizers to order. I spoke to a nice woman and asked how large their onion rings were, were they small rings, were they thick or in real life were they cut thin or small like the middle of an onion small part? She said "Oh no, ours are huge big onion rings, you get a lot! They are not greasy. This reassured me. I ordered 4 orders along with ranch and Tartar for the fish. Sandwiches were to come with fries. To my families dismay, when the order came by delivery each order of the 4 orders of appetizer onion rings which we wanted leftovers were so thin, less than the width of a pencil! This was not what we were told by restaraunt nor what their photos represent so false advertising and lied to us. They also WERE GREASY you could taste grease not like good fried products. Wasted $16 on that and received NO RANCH OR TARTAR- they gave mayonnaise we tasted it and looked like parsley was put up in it to make it look like sauce but tasted the same for both mayo. We had to actually do a Publix order so that we would have ranch and tartar isn't that sad? 1870 $70 for two sandwiches and appetizers and just to have something to dip in there and tartar sauce makes a fish sandwich. Did not include all that was supposed to be on the sandwich and supposedly you're supposed to get fries with your sandwiches. My Philly/steak sandwich was just OK I threw half away which I never did and that was the only thing I had eaten yesterday so that tells you how bland it was. I paid for extra cheese didn't get the extra cheese end it just wasn't flavorful. It was a very disappointing and would NEVER recommend. If it was an off night then all I can say is they should refund us or send us a new meal. We have it delivered yesterday from Uber. Please be warned and don't spend the money we did as we purchased the highly recommended items. They were not impressive. I could cry at the $70 we spent on a horrible meal. read more

we ate here a while ago during nights of lights in Saint Augustine. We went on a Sunday evening around 7 PM and we were the only customers from most of the time. we ordered two lobster rolls one hot one cold, lobster bisque, onion rings and french fries. the bisque was okay, needed more lobster. initially the onion rings were severely overdone and we were unhappy, but they made it right and made a fresh batch although it took longer than I would've normally waited but they were worth it the second time. Let's get to the star of the show, the lobster rolls. hands-down, the cold lobster roll was miles better than the other one. I felt like it had more lobster but even if it didn't the flavor was just so much better and I enjoyed it very much. Frankly, that lobster roll is the reason why I am giving this four stars, otherwise the rest of the food was three stars. Service was friendly but slow especially since we were the only customers and you could hear the other employees talking about wanting to leave since it was so slow, which I get it but anyway. For how much we spent, I'm not sure how frequently I would come back, but that one lobster roll was a saving grace. read more

Hubs and I loved the lobstah rolls they were a bit pricey but it's lobster! so we each got a different style to try and we agreed that we Highly recommend the hot buttered one! The side was a bit of a bust ( onion rings that were not cooked in high enough temp oil left them oily and soggy). Eventually they remade them but it was a long wait and a bit awkward. Yeah Ok, so here it is, the counter staff was a bit, dense because when I first brought it to her attention instead of immediately remaking them she accepted them back with a sorry & walked away. I (being an American) assumed the customer service would remake the item... after awhile it dawned on me that they were not! Lol so I waited in line and requested a remake and 20 minutes or so later I had the replacement rings, which unfortunately by then were not hungry enough for so they fell a bit flat. However, the place is clean, cute, looks like a Maine or cape cod house & seems like they have an air bnb in back? As a native I am a little sad that all our local seafood restaurants have gone to flash frozen premade and we're eating Maine seafood (lobster which is shipped but cold water lobster is oh so delicious.) read more

We stopped after a long afternoon of walking and touring beautiful St Augustine. We were just not in the mood for a long sit down meal so we decided to try this place. We are glad that we did. We were cheerfully greeted as we entered the blessedly cool interior. The woman at the counter helped us navigate the menu and we ended up with a bowl of clam chowder and a HoJo Clam strip basket. The woman said she had made the chowder fresh that morning and that the clams were tasty. The chowder WAS delicious! And so we're the clams! Just right. I'll start by saying I would give them a second chance. And order something totally different next time. I want to chalk todays visit up to a poorly trained cook in a newer restaurant. I do not believe the quality of my dish was worth the price. We ordered the Wicked Famous Fish Sandwich, the Bantam Chef recipe sandwich, and it was spot on. Huge, had left overs, no complaints. Highly recommend. It's what saved the review. The other order was a 7-piece Shrimp Boat Plattah. The platter was brought out in the styrofoam to-go container, as requested since the other party with me said we would end up leaving with leftovers, but the lid had been closed for enough time that condensation had formed on the lid and the fries & shrimp were no longer crisp. The fries were very basic frozen fries. The shrimp were very very small and butterflied. Honestly, I've never seen shrimp that small butterflied. I was surprised by the diminutive size to say the least. The batter had not been properly mixed and there were noticeably salty spots within the batter itself. I love shrimp and was left wanting for a bite of solid shrimp meat, not tiny butterflied shrimp where the meat became minuscule filets covered in batter. Butterflying works in larger shrimp, not these. Hush puppies. Someone forgot the leavening agent to help them rise when cooking. They were beautifully brown... lumps of thick pasty dough in the shape of the scoop used to make them with the flat side from the pan it had been scooped onto still showing. They were inedible. We both tried them. It was a no-go. The coleslaw. It looked amazing! But it tasted only like raw cabbage without any seasoning. The other party also tried it and agreed. It was also inedible. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated with a great northeastern lobster fishing theme. It was quaint and comfortable. Very nicely done. I truly hope the foibles with my shrimp platter were a training issue. The tiny butterflied shrimp is a purchasing issue. The shrimp were eaten, some fries eaten, and it was all thrown away. Like I said at the beginning, I am willing to try again. But I won't order the Shrimp Boat Plattah. read more

Was on the fence about trying this place due to mixed reviews. Me and my wife tried it today and we were both pleasantly surprised. We ordered to the large lobster roll, shrimp basket, onion rings, clam chowder, and lobster bisque. Lobster roll was very good. Toasted roll with big chunks of fresh lobster served with drawn butter on the side. Onion rings were great, obviously hand battered. Wife loved the shrimp basket and the soups were delicious. We gave the lobster bisque 8/10 and the chowder 9/10. No complaints. Price is high, but it's lobster.... It's going to be pricey. Will return for sure, especially for the chowder. read more
