What a fun and sweet little old fashioned ice cream parlor this is! We took my little granddaughter here for a sugar cone lunch and you never saw a happier little one. Loards is a sure cure for the terrible two's! I adventured and tried one of their ube flavors- very neon purple and delicious! We booked loards for catering our wedding in August 2024. Claudina was very professional and had great communication during the whole process. She clearly explained the options and prices during our phone calls. Once we booked with Loards, Claudina even came to our rehearsal to preview the space and made sure everything was all set. When her team came to the wedding, they served ice cream and were very friendly, professional, and efficient. I'm pretty sure all of our guests got ice cream and there weren't long lines or delays at all (we had about 120 guests). Every time we've been to Moraga Loard's their service is far worse than Orinda's, but unfortunately they're open later so we end up here anyway. Tonight was particularly bad, waiting in line 30 minutes to end up with horribly freezer burnt cookies and cream ice cream. I would have taken it back, but the line was so long it was out the door and they were turning people away that had been in line 15 minutes before close. My husbands sundae was only 2/3 full. They always only give one stamp on the punch card even when you purchase for 4 people. Stopped here for a very rare indulgence: a double chocolate ice cream soda. (A chocolate soda made with chocolate ice cream.) It is a favorite from my childhood in the Midwest -- and very hard to find. I remembered seeing it in the past on the Loard's menu and was happy they still have it. In fairness to the young man who was helping me, he asked what kind of ice cream soda I wanted. Apparently different customers have different ideas of what an ice cream soda is. No, it is not a float. No, it is not a freeze. We agreed on the necessary steps and he did an okay job. Just okay, not great. Certainly, not worth $6.95. Make that $7.00. The cashier did not bother to give me change. No big deal, but odd. One other thing to note: I expect ice cream shops to be sparkling clean. The floor in front of the counter was very grimy. Everyone there was wonderful. Great service; awesome ice cream cake. Everyone loved the cake. In more detail I got there late after they closed. They still let me in to order my ice cream cake. They also let me pick two flavors of ice cream instead of one. Then they asked me what design or color. I asked for orange and black. Right away they asked if it was a giants theme party and I said yes. They offered to sketch a design and see if that's what I wanted. The ice cream is pretty good, staff is friendly. I think the manager should train their employees how to "count up" when giving change. I gave the young man a $20 for a $13.09 bill. He gave me back $6.10, so I left a $1.10 tip. He would have received a minimum of $1.91 if he had provided the correct change, and would have received s higher tip if he hadn't given me a $5 bill. Anyway, he put the extra money in the cash register instead of his own tip jar. Or he pocketed the difference. Main point, kids these days a failing when they can't provide correct change. read more

I literally walked in and asked if they accepted Apple Pay, the guy said yes. I grabbed my partner a few stores down while their shop was somewhat packed, got our ice creams and pack of gum, the guy didn't know what he was talking about or didn't know how to work the register and tried to read my iPhone so I can pay after telling him I didn't have any form of payment but Apple Pay. Long story short, he made us feel stupid for not being able to pay while there was a long line behind us. He told us he could put our ice cream already on the cones in the fridge while I went home to get money. I've actually worked at Loard's and I've had the opportunity to sample pretty much everything. The selection you're gonna get is fairly large, and they'll have rarer options like Macipuno (baby cocunut) and ube (taro root). The problem is that the ice cream isn't always fresh, and you're gonna be paying a lot more than an average parlor. Bottom line, its the only place in moraga to get ice cream that's decent, but its freakin moraga and you can't get much of anything from this town anyway...Take the 10 minutes to drive down to coldstone in lafayette, which may be more expensive and have less variety in terms of flavors, but the custom and classic creations will taste much better and you know that your ice cream creation is being built by hands that really know what they're doing with some effort towards quality. read more

I'm not a big ice cream person, I much prefer froyo, but if I'm going to eat ice cream it's going to be Loards. This is my first time at this location and I was really happy with the customer service. A high school girl was working the counter and she was so polite and patient with my girls who couldn't make up their minds I was surprised. I was losing patience faster than her. No, I do not work for Rite Aid, but, I have sense and sensibilities to know that, unless you get ice cream in El Segundo, ya really can't f-up ice cream, you can really only offer more flavors and overcharge for the privilege. Make sure you avoid the after school soccer mom/mini van rush. It can be a nightmare in there with huge groups of families sitting for an hour or too just gossiping. Get in before 2:30pm. This is an institution in the Orinda/Moraga neighborhoods. So many Moms depended on their yummy ice creams for bribing their kids over the years. I love their mocha chip flavor, and love to stroll down there in a sunny afternoon for an ice cream. I was shocked, however, by the recent prices . A single scoop for $3 !!!! I don't mind it though, with everything else more expensive, I would rather pay their price and see this business open than seeing them go out of business. read more
