So, we've been going to loafers for as long as I can remember. All of their stuff used to be fresh, flavorful and delicious. We'd make a special trip just to get their items which says a lot for a Pittsburgher who has to cross a bridge to get there. We've stopped a couple times and have been disappointed, but hoped it was just a fluke. After a visit yesterday, I've officially given up hope of it being a temporary thing. We got a huge assortment of items, both scones, both muffins, all the cookies, different pastries, several different loaves of bread... and honestly nothing was worth eating so it all got tossed. I know they bake fresh daily, but somehow it all tasted stale? There also seems to be some sort of spice mixture that is used in most of the treats because they all have the overwhelmingly same flavor. Maybe nutmeg?Clove? Allspice? I'm not sure. Somehow neither the chocolate chip nor the chocolate cookie tasted chocolately despite a generous amount of chocolate in it. The spice flavor was overpowering and honestly clashed with the other flavors. The bread inclusions are also really disappointing. There was a very small, sometimes undetectable swirl of cinnamon sugar in the cinnamon sugar loaf. Their items are pricy, but I've always been willing to pay a premium for high quality ingredients and fresh items... but I'm not exaggerating when I say that every single item of the over $100 spent was thrown away. At this point, we won't be returning. While the actual items were lousy, the employees are always really friendly and helpful. read more

3.5 stars overall. Loafers Bread Company has three locations in the Pittsburgh area, and I visited this location in Wexford. They bake their breads and desserts in-house daily so they are fresh. Their bread schedule varies by season and day. About several flavors are available per day, and the cost is about several dollars per loaf. Their desserts vary in price, but an example is a pie for $16. When I visited on a Saturday afternoon, most of their breads were already sold out, so I bought what they had in stock. Here are my reviews for those foods: Peach pie - 3 stars - The crust was flaky and tasty, but I thought that the peach was a little sour. Cinnamon roll - 4.5 stars - This cinnamon roll was large, and it contained a good amount of cinnamon with a drizzle of icing. Strawberry jam - 1 star - Please note that a *different* company made this jam, and Loafers just sold it. I am giving this jam one star because it contained mold. Hours after I had bought the jam and taken it home, I removed the lid, and I saw mold growing on top. Customer service - 4.5 stars - In the store, the employees immediately and kindly greeted me, and they looked for a jar of jam in my preferred flavor. I saw them cleaning the store, and they wished me a good day. When I later noticed the mold in the jam, I emailed the business. Within minutes, the owner replied. He apologized, and he explained that the canning company's jams sometimes spoil. He offered either a refund or a replacement if I returned the jar to the store. Unfortunately, I probably will not be able to visit this store again anytime soon, because I live several miles away, and their hours are not the most convenient for me, especially with the holidays on the weekends. read more

We've gone to Loafers for years because we like to support small businesses, and through some frustrating changes (losing out on rewards due to changing programs back and forth, price increases, reduced variety of options on things like soup) we've remained dedicated customers. After our last trip, we won't be back. The price of everything is going up, and I totally understand that (we have a family of 5 so an order at a fast food restaurant comes to 80 bucks easily - we get it and it's a reality we've accepted). I understand difficult decisions have to be made as a business owner. However, a ham sandwich (literally a slice of ham, a slice of cheese, a garden's worth of lettuce, and a piece of tomato) was $15. The meatball subs were only $10 surprisingly, but the reduced the meatball count to three so most of the sub was just saucy bread. One of the employees informed us that now when you order a half salad as part of a manager's special, it no longer comes with protein. There's a $4 upcharge, making the meal nearly $20. An employee told us that this has been the policy for 2 months (if it has, it's been inconsistently enforced, because within the last two weeks I had the half cran apple pecan salad with chicken and there was no upcharge). They said that employees told management that they were losing sales because of that, but they were told that if you're getting a combo, you're getting protein somewhere else in the meal so you don't need it on the salad. I get soup and salad - so apparently the "protein" is the two cubes of chicken floating in the cup of broth alongside the three noodles in the chicken noodle soup. I appreciate the difficulty of smaller businesses having to make ends meet, and that's part of why as a family we've never objected to paying a little extra for something local. It's not exactly gourmet here - it's a ham and cheese sandwich or a salad and soup. There reaches a point where it just becomes insulting as a customer. read more

Went there for a to go lunch. I ordered turkey on honey wheat. The bread was dry and crumbly, fell apart. For 11 dollars this should not happen. They forgot my onions. I don't like giving bad reviews, but for the amount of money we have to pay these days, it should be better. I ate the inside of the sandwich and threw the rest away. Usually it's good service. Got a chicken salad sandwich on white bread and a cup of wedding soup, total was $17.63. The chicken salad tasted good but the sandwich was very unsubstantial overall for the price. Bread was thin cut and not very moist, and it was smashed making the sandwich even smaller. I'm glad I didn't ask for half a sandwich because that wouldn't even be a full meal. If it was an overall bigger sandwich on some nice thick pieces of a high quality bread, and the soup cup size was bigger than a 1/2 cup it would be worth the 17.63. Will not be returning due to the outrageous prices. read more

I haven't personally been to Loafers Bread, but my sister-in-law brought us some cinnamon rolls from this spot, and they were really good! They were packaged, and traveled a day to get to us, and they were still really tasty; so, I'd guess they're even better fresh. The next time I'm visiting the area, I'd like to go check this spot out in person for myself to try some more of their delicious baked goods! read more

Love that we have a good bakery in the North Hills area - look out for their weekly bread schedule for special breads. Today, I picked up their Cherry Apple Challah bread. It's a favorite for us and so happy when they have it. Go there early because they will run out. If you go there often, make sure you get a punch card which collects up rewards based on the number of loaves you buy in order to get a free one. read more

Sadly very disappointed with this place. Went in and got a salad today. Looked like something I could have gotten from Wendy's. Ken's dressing is "our special Caesar dressing??" I love Loafers for the specialty breads, and now that I have sampled more than just the breads and sweet treats, I would definitely return for a quick, casual lunch. My mom always buys the pumpkin and chocolate chip pumpkin loaves for Thanksgiving. These are delicious and highly recommended! Perfect with a dollop of whipped cream for a lighter after dinner dessert. The lemon blueberry pound cake is also tasty and goes well with summer BBQ food. Macaroons here are also superb and perfect for a light snack. My mom also frequently buys challah for Shabbat but it's also perfect for Sunday French toast! I love when she brings a loaf down to me in DC! My mom and I stopped in for lunch with my son the other day. We came in around 1:30 and it was still pretty crowded. We both chose a "pick 2" combo with a cup of soup and 1/2 sandwich. My mom had the creamy tomato basil and tuna fish. She enjoyed both. I had the kielbasa sausage soup and a roasted turkey sandwich. The soup had a nice kick to it thanks to jalapeños. There was plenty of spiced sausage too. I had the roasted turkey on multigrain with lettuce,tomato,onion,banana pepper, and horseradish sauce. The multigrain was soft with a little crunch and the turkey was hand carved and fresh. I love horseradish sauce and this was no exception-very creamy with that sinus-clearing quality. All sandwiches comes with pickles too. There's always a sandwich and soup of the day. As for soda it's coke products but they also have bottled Snapple and peach and unsweetened tea. I enjoyed my meal and would definitely have lunch here again if I were in the area. read more

Purchased 2 loaves of bread, and a scone and cup of coffee to go. When I got over to the coffee bar I found ALL THE COFFEE POTS WERE EMPTY. This is not a good look for a place that is offering table seating as a "coffee shop" for patrons to relax and enjoy freshly baked goods. The store manager should pick up her game. I didn't have the time to wait for a fresh brew, as there was no fresh reserve ready to go for take-out or store customers. Despite any comments to the contrary Loafers simply has the best bread around. The Challah and cinnamon bread is exceptional. The prices are not the cheapest but for your money you get high quality and support a local hometown business. Their sandwiches are just as amazing and have been the go-to choice for lunch. All the ingredients, from meats and cheeses to various toppings, are excellent. However for the first time ever I have begun to question the price of the sandwich combo. At just a tad over $16 for sandwich, chips, and drink it's gotten too pricy. I will likely choose other places for lunch. And during the last visit all the fountain drinks were just not good. Loafers is a locally owned bakery/cafe. Their loaves of bread are made fresh daily. I haven't had a bad sandwich at this place, but my fave is their meatball sandwich. I think unlike before, they are only sold on certain days (mon and sat?). I usually check their twitter to see the daily sandwich and soup menu. I've only had their chicken cesar salad but my husband recommends the chef's salad w/ chicken. I trust him as he has lunch at Loafers almost everyday. The portions are big and definitely filling. They have a half and half option where you can get half a sandwich with soup or salad. My other faves at loafers are their challah bread and pumpkin choc chip bread. They also sell natrona bottled sodas. Workers are usually friendly. A little disappointed that the workers don't ask for your loafers dozen club card or offer it. Dave is the only one who seems to remember and he's really nice. read more

Everything is baked at this site and some bread goes out to the Cranberry and Fox Chapel locations. They use natural ingredients and Artisan baking methods. They have a dining room that is a little like Panera, but with better food. The staff was very friendly. If you are buying bread, get there a little earlier, as they sometimes sell out of inventory. Tried Loafers for the first time last night. I have some good news and some bad news. Let's get the bad out of the way. We stopped in around 5:45 PM and interrupted someone mopping up the floors. They close at 7 PM. I'm all for getting your closing work done early, but over an hour early seems like a bit much. Not only that, the same worker went on to make one of our sandwiches, which felt a little gross. That being said, I have no complaints about the food. My sandwich was delicious. They don't have many pre-designed options, so it took a while for me to order, but it was great. My husband and I had soup as well, and it tasted homemade...certainly not microwaved or frozen like at other restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful. I don't know that we'll go out of our way to go back, but if we're passing by we definitely might drop in again. read more

Loafers is a really good place to get work done as it is typically pretty quiet unless you are there during lunch. They have a nice selection of items for breakfast such as muffins, cinnamon rolls, and scones. They also have a breakfast sandwich that is to die for!! It's on their English muffin bread (which is amazing by itself) and is customizable with eggs, ham, cheese, bacon, and vegetables. So good! The bread itself is pretty good, but my favorite is the Struan. Be careful if you have never been, the menu changes daily, but there is a schedule. The only downside to Loafers is the price. It is so expensive! They also have soups, salads, sandwiches, and some of the best cookies ever. read more

Yum!! What a great option for lunch?! I usually do Panera or Zuppas but, today,I wanted to try something new. They have a ton of bread (duh!), sandwiches and salads. I had the pick two combo... you get half of a sandwich and a cup of soup or small salad for $6.59. That's really affordable for delicious food! The ladies here were super friendly and got my food put together within 2 minutes. There are enough eating for 50 people, about 10 outside and 40 inside. Today, I got the turkey/bacon club and a cup of chicken gumbo. The gumbo was not spicy at all but very flavorable. The club was pretty good - turkey was thinly sliced and toppings were high quality. I, also, got the lemon blueberry pound cake for the team and that was really good (especially when paired with coffee). I'll have to add this joint to my weekly lunch routine! read more

This place has some really unique breads and the selections change daily. They also have samples of some of there breads available. I got the Laurel Mountain herb. Yummy! Other examples include German Stout available on Mondays, Montana Multi-Grain on Tuesday, cherry apple on Wednesday, Blueberry pineapple on Thursday, English muffin on Friday, and Sunflower Whole wheat on Saturday. They also have other items like lemon blueberry pound cake and banana bread. If you are familiar with the great harvest bread company it is very similar. It is nothing like Panera They offer only round unsliced loaves the way bread was sold until the early 1900s. Because there are no artificial preservatives, a sliced loaf would go stale too fast. The challah bread is my absolute favorite and close enough is the cinnamon bread. You should also totally try the cinnamon sugar covered nuts! In some sense I am glad I live 30 minutes from Loafers because otherwise I would eat on loaf of bread every day! I got half sandwich and half salad. The bread was so stale on my sandwich I was so disappointed. I figured a restaurant called Loafers would have the freshest bread, boy was I wrong. The salad was acceptable except for the awful dressing that came with it. Had I realized it would be a packet of Ken's ranch dressing I would have definitely passed on the salad. I usually stop at this location every Tuesday for lunch between jobs. It's convenient to the Wexford and mccandless area. The business is local and known for their amazing bread. They serve soup, salads and sandwiches at a reasonable cost. The staff is always friendly. There is plenty of seating for the lunch time crew. They could be a little more diligent in cleaning up tables after customers leave but otherwise a great place to stop for a quick lunch! read more
