One of the best places surrounding Pittsburgh for donuts I've been going here for almost a year now and I fell in love day one with their cinnamon rolled donuts, and I could not believe the price!! Whenever I want to treat myself to donuts, I drive about 45 minutes and probably pass a dozen other bakeries to get there and it's worth it. They're open until 4 but your best getting there before 11 slim pickings. If any at all. Go there with $14 I guarantee you you're leaving with a dozen good flavors. read more

I love the old school vibe of this place, and this is the type of bakery I would actively search out. Coupled with the fact that all of the staff working the counter were incredibly friendly, I will definitely be back to try some different things. As it was, I stopped here to try their donuts, and left with mixed reviews. I found their raised yeast donuts, to not be my thing. They were a bit chewy as opposed to crisp outside/light interior. Their glaze didn't set on their donuts either and was laid on thick, which isn't my thing. Their peanut butter cream donut was the best of the bunch, so maybe try a filled donut if it's your first time visiting. Their cake donut (the one that I tried) was MUCH better in terms of texture and flavor. So when I visit a second time, I will go down this route instead. Called several times and never picked up the phone.Went in the day before Thanksgiving to get two turkeys cupcakes.Was 4th in line and saw they had almost a full tray of the cupcakes I wanted. When it came my turn I order and the women beside the women waiting on me had a boy who worked there go get all those cupcakes and I said I just asked for two of them and she said you can't have them cuz they short change someone else and again I said I only need two and she said no and was extremely rude to me not apologizing or trying to accommodate me after I waited in line. No respect for their customers.I walked out and bought nothing in disbelief on how I was treated. Tried to contact the mgr and no replied back. I was in the area and sore the sign for the bakery and made a quick uuee. I was really in the mood for some pasteries. The store is on the small side and the selection was ok not great. The staff where very friendly and very helpful. I ordered a apple and cherry turnover and a donut and a blueberry muffin. The donut and muffin where just ok nothing special. Finally a bakery near us! This place is similar to Dave's terrace in Whitehall. We got a dozen of HUGE delicious donuts. Love the long Johns especially. The icing did slide off some donuts by the time we got home- not sure if it needs to be thicker? Long line early in the morning but worth it. The staff were nice and the lady lock was huge and perfect- not stale like bakeries sometimes are. Definitely will be snacking throughout the day! read more

Went today to pick up Paczkis. When I went in there was a stack of a dozen or more boxes of assorted Paczkis. When I asked the staff if they were assorted, I was rudely told they were sold out. It was clear they were not "sold out" because they had boxes of them. Clearly the staff was greedy and held onto some inventory instead of selling to customers. Doubt I'll be coming back if I have go compete with the staff on baked goods. Ended up going to Giant Eagle, spending 2x what I would have been charged here and I didn't have to fight for a box from their staff either. read more

3.5 stars overall. HD Dudt Bakery sells cakes, pies, and other desserts. I visited Dudt bakery on New Years Eve about one hour before they were to close, so, of course, their racks of baked goods were largely empty. Nonetheless, I found two types of cookies and one pastry to buy. The desserts did not have labels, and when my husband asked what one of the pastries was, the employee laughed at him for not knowing. I do give the employee credit, though, for thanking us and wishing us a good day at the end of the service. The desserts also did not have signs with prices, but at checkout, I felt very pleased that my entire box of desserts cost only $3.80! My husband and I ate the desserts at home. I think that some of the cookies were snickerdoodles, and I rate those as 5 stars. Other cookies were kolaches, and I rate those as 3 stars. This included Pecan Sandies, thumb prints, and cinnamon nut horn cookies. I also got donuts to go, and they were fresh and tasty. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area. I love Dudt's cakes specifically. I get them for every occasion. Super well priced and the buttercream is amazing.

If you're looking for a simple, old fashioned cake, that's what you'll get. "Specialty" cakes are very different here than what is expected by today's standards. Be SPECIFIC, and know exactly what you're agreeing to-- and paying for. Edibles here are apparently limited to the basic icing flowers, balloons, and the like, as well as those edible screen prints of pictures. If you don't want the reference idea of what could become a cake for your child's party to end up printed ON the cake, go elsewhere. The person I spoke to afterwards was polite enough, and I was offered store credit for the difference in opinion. I declined, because, hey, I see the error in my choices. I'm not jumping to experience that again. However the overall sentiment behind their offer is marred by the fact that they basically blamed my husband, saying he agreed to a design that was not what we expected, while he thought the idea was icing (a.k.a. "edible") legos... and as if a picture of a cake ON another CAKE was the plan all along. Lessons learned: 1. Don't send poor Daddy to the Bakery for anything but pre-made stuff. Not his fault. He believed they were doing what I wanted. 2. Don't expect a bakery full of old-fashioned bakers to make you a creative cake! Even when they state that "Birthday Cakes are their Specialty." 3. Old school bakery in the North Hills. We decided to go in after lunch down the road. The place is so teeny tiny that they only want 6 people in at a time. Such a large selection of sweets, bread and cookies. I decided in a small sample cake. It was so light, fresh and good. The icing was just how I like it, creamy and light. Asked about an appointment, woman behind the counter was extremely rude - said they aren't making wedding cakes at this time. We mentioned to them they should update their website and she claims it's "under construction". Interesting since their updated hours are on there. I tried this bakery for the first time today and I am so glad I didn't spend a lot of money. There was a line out the door so I thought it had to be good. The cupcakes are absolutely horrible. They're super dry. So dry that the bottoms start to crumble when you're taking the paper off. There is absolutely no flavor. Both the cupcake and the frosting are totally flavorless. I thought there would be more frosting but the cupcake pan must have been too full so the cupcakes have a dome. There was very little frosting. Which didn't actually matter because I took two bites and threw the rest away. I will not be back and I do not recommend. read more

I think I've been hit with the mediocre bug the last few days.... everything's just been meh! I went to this bakery this morning to pick up some pastries for the team. I had never been here before so I wanted to take everything in before actually placing my order. The shop is ran by a hand full of older ladies. One of them helped get some of my choices for me but since I was taking my time, she seem annoyed. I thought, like most bakeries, you go in and just pick out your treats and they just ring you up. If not, they should consider explaining how they do it there. Anyways, feeling like you are annoying someone early in the morning is not a great way to start your morning. Anyway, a few minutes later, a police officer came in ... one of their friends/regulars and she was all super nice and cheerful. I ordered a handful of mini fruit turnover looking things, some cream pastries and cheese danishes. Everyone likes free treats but no one raved about them. I had half of the cream pastry ... the cream tasted a little waxy - synthetic almost. Not sure....but I didn't care for it. I also had a miniature raspberry turnover (I'm making up the name bc that's what it looked like to me) but that was decent. I'd buy that again. read more

Baked goods? I'm there! I've only been here to get doughnuts, cookies, and giant hohos. The ones I tried were yummy but nothing to go out of the way for. I got 2 snickerdoodles, 2 sour cream doughnuts, and 1 chocolate iced doughnut today and it only cost me $3.25. I think that's pretty inexpensive compared to other bakeries or doughnut chain around. I recommend the sour cream doughnuts. The glaze is melt-in-your-mouth good and not coyingly sweet. The doughnut is a moist cake, dense consistency. Really filling. I've never had any of their other pastries but they also have almond torte cake. The current fall display is very cute. They need to add labels to the doughnut shelf. I was stuck pointing at things and asking about flavors. I can see why yelpers had negative comments about the workers. Some are not too friendly like the lady who was helping me today. I felt rushed and I honestly was there for only 4-5 mins. It's pretty sad bc I like supporting local small businesses. read more

This place is horrid! Circa 1940 with the stale cakes with white icing and flowers in the case for god only knows how long! The last time I was there, I was reprimanded by the rude woman because I chose a cake In Their book that had chocolate icing and I foolishly requested white instead, thinking it would not be a big deal- boy, was I wrong!!! Chocolate is what is in the picture and chocolate is what you get, was the response. Rudest people ever! I have been enjoying Dudt's donuts at work for over two years now! I have two coworkers who bring them frequently for birthdays and other special occasions. You can definitely taste the difference between a Dudt's donut and the chain competition. I tried to eat a Dunkin donut recently at a work event and literally couldn't finish it. Because of my positive experience with the product, I was expecting an equally positive experience when I stopped by the shop last week for my husband's birthday. I wanted to pick up a half dozen of cookies to take home to him for his special day. Though the cookies that I purchased were very tasty, my experience was just...awkward. There were four women working, but none of them acknowledged my presence when I entered the (very small) shop. One of the ladies was blocking most of the counter (standing on the customer side) and it took her some time to realize that I couldn't see what to order due to her standing in the way. As I was leaving, she proceeded to block me from exiting as she picked up some sort of... bug, I think? from the ground inside the shop and placed it not far from the entrance outside. My whole in-store experience was just strange and I look forward to returning to eating the treats that my coworkers provide, not picking them up myself. read more

The baked goods are fine. Pastries and icing are always good, especially those french bear claws! Mmmm. Sometimes the cake can be dry, but not always. But those women behind the counter are always rude. This isn't a one time thing either, this is every time I go. I always feel rushed by them as if I am wasting their time picking out my items. The problem is that there are no signs telling you what anything is, the flavors, etc. and their demeanor from the moment I walk into the door makes me feel uneasy even asking them about anything as they are very unwelcoming. They actually seem agitated that you're even there, even as you walk in with a smile. It does deter me from going there from time to time. Tasty baked goods. Lousy and unwelcoming staff. Maybe keep the miserable women in the back kitchen away from the public, and bring in some personable girls for the front. read more

Ermergerd. No words. I came here the other day with my friend to pick up goodies for my family, and I seriously wanted to eat everything. I ended up getting a large assortment of cookies, apple turnovers, cream puffs, and an almond torte! ...Yeah, I'm pretty much the best daughter ever, hardy har har... ANYWHO, everythang here was mad tasty, but the apple turnovers and almond torte were exceptional, like melt-in-your-mouth exceptional. Trust me when I say ya'll have to experience their desserts first hand. I've read some bad reviews about this place, but I'm not sure why?
