Super cute counter service diner with creative treats, totally fine food, and a cute interior. My friend got the Capicola - ham, egg, and cheese on a croissant with some fig jam. It looked very tasty and creative- there was some kind of toasted cheese situation, and anything that involves fig is always fun! It was a little messy and fell apart almost immediately. It also was super decadent and had a ton of sauce and oil, which is to be expected for a croissant sandwich, but this one was very very rich. I had a simple sourdough toast and found it was also super greasy. I asked for butter on the side, but the toast came out with oil already soaked into it; it seemed they had toasted it on the griddle. It was delicious but not what I was looking for. I also ordered a green tea and was served red tea. This ended up being a happy accident because the red tea was delicious but again, not what I ordered. The service ranged from really awesome to really meh. The person bringing our food was really friendly and chatty, but the person taking our order was really cold and seemed bothered by our totally normal questions about the menu. Overall this seemed like a really fun place to grab a unique treat and meet friends! I wouldn't say it's a great cafe to get work done and it better suited for meeting people or grabbing a coffee/tea. read more

LOVE this place -- super relaxed environment with great food and friendly staff. Everything is so fresh and made in-house, right down to the bread that your sandwich is made on! Their apple cider scone is hands down the best scone I've ever had, and I was shocked to learn that it was vegan after trying it - solid vegan baked goods are hard to come by :) you can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches (especially the breakfast sandwiches on homemade English muffins), and definitely get a loaf of bread to go - my favorite is the sourdough. You can tell a lot of love and care put into the sammy! Keep in mind, there are definitely stronger umami flavors that come from the sausage. The herb mayo was present but not overwhelming. I love the vibe of this place! While it's fairly new, it seems as though it's been in the neighborhood a while. B and I got 2 different breakfast sandwiches to share. The english muffin sandwich, with an over easy egg and sausage, was quite possibly the tastiest breakfast sandwich in the city. When coupled with a hash brown on the side, it's like having a "homemade by your chef bestie" version of the classic McDonald's breakfast combo... but wayyyy more delicious, obviously!!! The smoked salmon on rye was also fantastic, with a nice mix of fresh and bright flavors. Having 1/2 of each of these sandwiches was a perfect combination for us. Riding the line of almost too deep chocolate flavor with moist fudge cake and lite filling with chocolate icing. We then also had to have pasties and breakfast sandwiches. The sausage breakfast sandwich is perfection. The sausage is just a bit spicy, the English muffin is the best I've ever had, and the American cheese is just the layer of fat you want on breakfast sandwich. I really like the addition of Mayo, but did want more herbs. The spicy capicola with fig jam is the little extra bougie we all want for breakfast. Just a bit fancy and decadent. The chocolate crinkle cookie was soft and just extra powdered sugar that it needs. There were so many pastries to pick from and all looked amazing. Amazing food. Stopped in for breakfast with the family. The breakfast sandwich was exquisite. The hash brown hands down is the best I've ever had. Similar to McDonald's in size and look but nowhere near as greasy and much tastier. The deserts were also spot on. Loved the strawberry morning bun. My daughter ended up stealing it from me. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the taste of the sausage itself, the muffin was good, and i liked the sauce and that was about it. i do not recommend walking in and ordering to go lol i ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, oatmeal cream pie (which is already made), and mocha latte to go and i had to wait a half hour for the sandwich. coffee took a few minutes but i basically drank it all while waiting. it was very busy and cramped so it was awkward to stand around for that long. they do have a sign that says all sandwiches are made to order and take 20-30 minutes but it was still a rough wait for a breakfast sandwich. that being said, the sandwich and coffee were delicious and i would go back! i'm just going to be ordering a half hour ahead of time from now on. my last thing is the eggs are supposed to come runny on the sandwich and mine came scrambled without my asking. still good though! read more

Their demeanor is offputting and makes me not want to support this business. I've been there multiple times. Ownership: Fix the damn door. I was dressed down by one of your lackeys for not closing the door. Normal operating doors are self-closing. I was completely unaware that the self closing mechanism was not working properly. I did not need to be talked down to in front of other customers about how I should close the door because "It's chilly in here". It was also very interesting how the person behind me didn't get that same lecture because she walked through the door just like I did. Teach your employees how to deal with simple issues. They offer fresh bread, pastries, cookies, sandwiches, espresso drinks, etc. They are known for their bread and it's some of the best in Chicago right up there with Middle Brow, Phlour & Hewn. All breads are sourdough based they said and you have to try the Carmelized Onion. The smell alone will make you cry let alone the flavor! Cookies are phenomenal with the Ruby Red Chocolate Chip taking the cake. Breakfast sandwiches are also very good; try the Capicola, Egg & Cheese.. trust me here! Proprietor was a former Chef at Giant & wife a Pastry Chef who came up with the Chocolate Cake for "The Bear" they said. Food - amazing, 10/10. The croissants are crumbly and all the bread is fresh cooked. Now here's what to consider - the service is exceptionally and breathtakingly terrible. Service - we have consistently had trouble with the service here. Multiple times they have charged us for things we didn't order, and didn't bring them to our table. They will fight to take it off the bill saying we did ask for it or some other excuse. This has happened on 3 different occasions which has led me to write this review, as if it's part of their store policy or something. They will give you dirty looks behind the counter, smack gum, sit on their phones and talk to coworkers while you wait in line. That on top of the fact that the ambiance feels cheap does not make me feel great about this store. They have some breakfast sandwiches and luncheon sandwiches, some pastries and loaves of bread to take with you. I came in around 1 pm and ordered off of the lunch menu. I had the Rhiannon which is a delectable sandwich of Turkey, Brussels Sprouts, Pear, Parmesan Cheese and a Caesar dressing. It was toasted on a black pepper country style white bread. The sandwiches are on the large side, so if you're not too hungry and you're with someone sharing would be a good idea. Please be sure to leave room for something sweet. read more

I used to be able to rest easy knowing the hipster plague was safely contained in Logan Square. To much dismay, it has spread to my beloved Avondale which I've called home the past thirteen years. As I've noted prior, a gratuity is 'something given without claim or demand'. Fundamental vocabulary seems to be lost on those with mullets and carabiners as Loaf Lounge thinks it's acceptable to force a gratuity on their customers to compensate for underpaying their employees. A good synonym for forced gratuity would be 'theft'. The line was long, they initially handed me the wrong order, my breakfast sandwich was sloppy and fell apart and the $2 hash brown was identical to a McDonald's hash brown which are 2 for $1. My latte was half of a small cup. Thank goodness filthy unemployed hipsters have parents in Glencoe to sustain their lifestyle of spending $20+ for a hash brown and teaspoon of coffee. Avondale wasn't making trendy lists when there were two kitties in the window of Polvision, or when Mazamitla was slinging tacos to locals. But now that there are monstrous condo developments and places where you can get an $8 hash brown it's cool. Great quality thick bacon, delicious sesame bun with fluffy egg, cheese, and homemade mayo. I got a hash brown and added it to my sandwich. Line was long but very quick to get to the front to order. We got 2 sausage egg cheese sandwiches, hash brown, Hazelnut croissant, chocolate cake, and almond bear claw. All of it was delicious but the breakfast sandwiches definitely was my favorite. Be careful though, the egg is runny. I took a bite and the egg yolk spewed out onto my clothes! Breakfast sandwiches were good but broken/empty soap dispensers in both restrooms is a hygiene concern in any food establishment.

Morning bun was excellent. Flaky and the right amount of sweetness. Our family of 4 tried 4 different breakfast sandwiches and they were decent. Enjoyed the salmon one the most -- especially with the fried capers and fish eggs. The sausage/egg/cheese is quite spicy and doesn't have any greens or special sauce. Also really enjoyed the oatmeal cream pie -- would go back for that. I'd pass on the breakfast sandos next time, the bread is great but the sandwiches themselves are rather plain and uninspired. read more
