I'm actually usually not a big fan of hotpot (I mean it's just boiled food...), but Liuyishou is one of the few spots where I was pretty happy with my meal. Not included. $4 per person. By the time everything is added up, you're easily paying close to $60 per person, which completely defeats the point of AYCE. At that price, there are much better options nearby (including the restaurant across the street). To be fair, the service and ambiance were good. But the pricing structure feels like a bait-and-switch. This really should be disclosed upfront instead of being buried in add-ons. The food and presentation looked really good though. This place was always packed when we walked by at night so we had to try it. This isn't an AYCE type of hot pot, you scan a QR code on the table and each item is priced individually. This works especially well when some people in your party may not be too hungry but want to join you for dinner. Having tried most of the hotpot places downtown Boston, I'm glad to have finally gotten around to trying Liuyishou. This place is always really busy but to keep the wait down they allow you to order your food and broth from and iPad so it's already one it's way out as your getting seated which is pretty cool. For the broth we split the medium spicy house special and tomato. Just a heads up their medium level of spice was about as hot as most other places hot level. Still great but definitely something to keep in mind if it's your fist time. The broth was delicious and very flavorful with their veggies/meat being pretty comparable to other places in the area. It's La carte here rather than ayce, so if you have the money to spend , go ahead. It's the next day and I'm still paying for it. The soup bases were very flavorful. I kept on wanting to sip the soup. We got the beef and lamb platter, which is the ring of meat around our pot, and a platter of American beef. I think just the ring of meat was enough, we ordered too much. We still finished the meat tho. Surprisingly, the only leafy greens they had on the menu were spinach and bok choy. Which is fine, but if you're a watercress hotpot lover, you'll be disheartened. My husband got the chilled watermelon juice, which is essentially blended watermelon served in a cup of ice, because it tastes just like real watermelon fruit.
