None of us in our party could handle spicy (yes we are wimps) so we got the 8-hour bone broth. It is milky colored and tastes delicious, comforting, and nutritious. They had nice and orderly selection of msuhroom While they had good air conditioning I wish they had better ventilation so you would not feel like you're in a sauna. A low vent hood or a fan to direct the steam away would've been nice. Be cautious of what you wear and accessories you bring because you will be smelling heavily of hot pot hours after you leave! Our server was friendly and attentive. She even gave us a bag of their broth to bring home. Come here early. Came here for a birthday dinner on a weekday and the space was pretty empty. We got a large table in the middle of their seating area and the space felt clean enough, but ventilation was very poor - we came in the summer and it was EXTREMELY hot and uncomfortable as we were in the middle of the room and the heat from all the pots was seemingly directed at us. Getting up and moving anywhere was noticeably cooler - it led to a poor experience due to that alone. Food and service was okay, slow on waters but the bar was nice and meat came out decently fast. Overall, it was a nice experience and felt more modern/sleek compared to their Cambridge location, but due to the ventilation, I would only recommend coming during the cooler months of the year. read more

Definitely not the best, but good enough to hold you over if you're craving hotpot and don't want to spend alot of money. The quality of the meat is very "mid", but not terrible. Very good hot pot place with delicious broth! I especially like their broth because they put whole cloves of garlic in, so garlic lovers like me should love it!! Happy Lamb is AYCE, and they have an amazing happy hour deal on weekdays which is 2-5pm, $20 pp. The meat is tender and you order it at your table, and all the others (veggies, tofu, seafood, etc), you get up and get yourself. The past two times I've gone, they didn't have enoki mushrooms which was sad. Also, I love putting tomatoes in my broth but they didn't have it the second time I went. It gets very busy, especially on holidays and weekends so sometimes the staff isn't able to check on you, but there are lots of staff running around which you can flag down if you really need something. Overall vibe of the restaurant is dimly lit (especially if you're in the back), but very lively. Perhaps my favorite part of this restaurant is the free sodas and free tea/juices which are always good. I wish they did have more dessert options and sauce options though. This was my first time going to Happy Lamb Allston since they converted to AYCE. The layout is slightly different to accommodate the buffet bars. We were lucky to get a table for 8 pretty easily as it can be quite busy. My only qualm is that booths for large parties are a pain when it comes to buffets. My go to drink is usually the rock sugar pear drink or the fresh coconut. In addition to the hot pot items, they also have some unlimited sides, build your own dessert soup, and unlimited sweet teas. Happy Lamb has one of the best broth selections. They pride themselves on having great flavor and no need for dipping sauce. The meat and seafood selection was very fresh, and everything was neatly organized. I love that they have they out in individual portions so there's less waste and cross-contamination. We were seated quickly, and the restaurant was spacious & clean I chose the half tomato, half spicy broth, and the tomato one was sooo yum. For $29 AYCE on weekdays, it's such a deal. You get to pick your own meats, and there's a huge selection noodles, fried rice, veggies, drinks, sauces, and even a hot bar. There is water by the drinks. Service was fast and efficient. I ordered tiger shrimp but regular shrimp (same type of shrimp as the ones in the self-service area) were served and they were not fresh at all 2. It's so delicious & flavorful! Highly recommend if you like a bit of spice; it's like a hot & sour base. I prefer it over mala spicy marrow broth because it's drinkable. We opted for just the regular AYCE, because that's all we need. For meats, we order: natural marbled lamb, hand sliced beef short plate, marinated garlic beef, & the marinated spicy beef. They have sour plum juice here; my favorite! I couldn't help but refill it 5 times throughout the meal. For seafood, they offer white fish, shrimp, calamari squid, & spicy fish. If you enjoy tripe, they also offer white tripe! One thing that I wished they had that would've been nice would be fish roe balls. Other than that, our meal was phenomenal!! Our server was great! The service was terrible even though there was no one waiting to be seated. We waited out front for at least five minutes once we were seated. There was people that were seated after us that were served before us. We waited another five or 10 minutes. It was our first time there the place looked very clean inside the server was very polite and tried to be helpful. The food was awful. We tried all the different kinds of fish and vegetables and meat and it's just very low quality. It didn't taste very good. I like spice. The spice is good in the broth. It will say that, but overall the quality of the meats and vegetables was very Poor the premade rice lo mein they even have like french fries everything was very cold and bland and tasteless. It's a really good hot pot restaurant with the broth being the star. It's a you can eat now. The new menu includes a VIP price, other side items, and the lamb skewers (I really recommend this) is back. Just for some context, the VIP buffet is a bit more money but not sure if I really remember it because the base menu includes a lot already. Here is what I recommend though: 1. Lamb skewers!!! It made a return and it's one of my favorite sides. 2. The spicy broth here is my favorite broth of all time and that is comparing to other hot pot places. 3. The garlic beef is a unique item here and must try. 4. Fresh Coconut comes with coconut shell and the perfect drink for the summer. After ordering a few meats, we headed to the self-serve area, which offered a wide variety of vegetables, tofu, bean curd, and hot foods--there was even dessert soup available. The selection was impressive, with plenty of options to build the perfect hot pot. For our soup base, we chose the duo option: one side was the original broth with Chinese medicinal herbs, and the other was a spicy broth. The restaurant provided bibs to protect us from the inevitable splatter, which was a nice touch. Drinks were also unlimited, with a self-serve station for juice and soda. A great place to celebrate a birthday or just enjoy some weekday all-you-can-eat hot pot! We came to use their offer of the birthday person eating for free if they bring four people with them. We came around 6:20pm on a Tuesday and were seated right away. It definitely got a lot busier, as by the time we left, there were multiple parties waiting to be seated. Their AYCE hot pot is really high quality compared to other options in the area. The broth itself is so flavorful that you don't really need dipping sauces. The meat came quickly after we ordered it, and the servers were really on top of refilling our broth. The price isn't bad, at around $35 per person after tip and tax. The atmosphere is great and the self-service bar has a lot more variety than the Central Square location. I'd definitely choose to go into the Allston one over Cambridge any time. Happy Lamb Hot Pot has several locations in Massachusetts. My favorite location is the Allston location - where I usually always find a parking spot. Be sure NOT to park at another privately owned lot by accident as they WILL tow you! This happened to me once not knowing and it cost $150 to get my car back. I often meter park on the street and haven't had any issues. The restaurant is big and typically never a long wait. There is a lot of seating and easy to get around. It is All-You-Can-Eat buffet and has plenty of veggie and meat options. They also offer complimentary fountain drinks. You can get white rice and/or friend rice and some appetizers that they have pre-made in the buffet station. For hot pot broth, I like to get the "Best of Both World's" which is a half pot of original broth and half spicy broth. They also let you do a half and half pot if sharing with another person - that way if you are like me - you are not using the same hot pot if you don't want to. It's well worth the money! You will not leave here hungry. Service is always quick and staff is attentive. I've already got my friends and family hooked! :) read more

This AYCE hotpot place now includes unlimited meat! Pricing was about $30 per person, which is reasonable. Its a few dollars more per person than Spring Shabu Shabu but you get unlimited meat, but less veggie and overall choices. Drinks were included as well, so you could get sodas. Happy Lamb has a more curated selection of offerings. Rather than overwhelming you with lots of choices, they are careful to offer a little bit of everything to ensure everyone has something they enjoy. I was surprised they had intestines and beef tendon! Sounds gross but pretty tasty to me. Avoid the hot prepared foods as those were not good at all. For our family of 4, we had to share one divided pot with 2 choices for broth. For sauces, you are pretty limited here compared to Spring Shabu. The unlimited meats were decent and fresh looking. Our favorite is the fatty beef. The pork wasn't that great. Lamb and chicken is an option. They had some fish at the self serve areas for you to pick up. The restaurant overall is much smaller as well but that means less crowds to deal with. Good luck finding a table at Springs unless you time your visit to when they open, or after the 1st wave. I've been to a different Happy Lamb location (Chicago Chinatown) and it was a little different. There were less choices of meat and you got everything besides the meat by yourself. I didn't mind getting my own since it let me decide if I wanted more/less than I would typically get if it was them bringing it. The broth was very flavorful (original and spicy dual) and if it got low, they would come by and refill. The staff were attentive and very nice, and never felt like I had to get their attention. I came when it opened on a Saturday and it filled up really quickly. Even though it was packed, I never felt like I got ignored or anything. And the place was very clean and tidy. I really loved their fish balls - those are definitely my favorite part of hot pot. You're even able to make your own bubble tea - I put unsweetened tea, black sugar syrup, and popping boba. Surprisingly the chicken was really good because it was thinly sliced and soaked up all the flavors. The beef options were also especially good. They also have shrimp meatballs at the buffet which is a great option to eat shrimp without having to deal with peeling them. We got a generous helping of veggies and noodles and had a wonderful feast. Note that the servers will refill the broth if you ask. I also appreciate that they let you hang your coats in the foyer so they don't end up smelling like hot pot. This is now my go-to spot for AYCE hotpot!! I put off going to Happy Lamb for the longest time because of how expensive it seemed but when I finally went, my only regret was not going earlier. All the meat is soo soft and the broth is delicious. You order the meat off a menu and the veggies, carbs, and fish are all self-serve from a buffet like area. Everything was so yummy and so fresh. There are free drinks with toppings (popping boba, ice jelly, even watermelon pieces) and theres fried rice, white rice, and spring rolls that all come a part of the AYCE experience. The fried rice and spring rolls are mediocre but nobody really goes to hotpot for fried rice. The service is so good, our waiter was super nice. We ended up staying the whole allotted 2 hours and eventually had to leave just because there was a limit of 2 hours on the buffet but it was more than enough time to eat to your hearts content. read more

They change up the drinks selections here and there. I've been here 3x the past 3 months and they've changed it 2x. They have a separate section with some cooked items like fried rice and vegetarian spring rolls. For dessert, they have a small build your own ice jelly bar, it's light and refreshing, good way to complete the hot pot meal. The front host is always very friendly and the staff inside are very attentive and friendly as well. Come on a weeknight as there's usually no to less of a wait compared to the weekends. read more

The waiters came around often to clear plates and ask if we wanted more meat. However it took three waiters before anyone brought us our soda. Refreshing drink options including unsweetened fruit tea, kumquat lemonade, and another pineapple drink. The fried dough with condensed milk dessert is the bomb. They also have glass jelly dessert, fried rice, and egg rolls. Their chili sauces and spicy broth is actually quite spicy so just keep that in mind. I was afraid of a long wait as we had 15 parties ahead of us on a Sunday night but we only had to wait about 30 min. If you're not there when they call you, they immediately move on. Unfortunately our go to hot pot spot (spring) was closed. After driving an hour and a half we decided to make the best of it and give happy lamb a try. Let's start with the good. Value: pretty much everything you need is included in the price. Three different drinks and water are all serve yourself, as are mini spring rolls, fried rice, a stir fried noodle dish and French fries. Most meats and seafoods are offered unlimited through ordering through the servers. Time: there didn't seem to be a time limit for your party. Could take your time and enjoy the food. Now for the negative: 1. Parking, on street only. Total pain in butt finding a spot. Ended up walking 1/4 mile. 2. No sauces available. Would be nice if a sauce station was available for me to make and customize my food taste. 3. No individual hot pots. I like seafood and rest of party doesn't. Kind of inconvenient. 4. Quality of food. Most of the sides are fresh from a freezer not made on site. You can tell they are tossed in an oven and baked....fried spring rolls are better than mushy baked. Also the "buffet " is small and cramped. Cross contamination was evident as tongs for each item were in other items. No staff keeping an eye on it. 5. Service. Yes meats are all you can eat but if you can't find your server after a first round it's a bit difficult. The guy that took our original order I never saw again. Not quite sure why anyone would over tip when only a few small plates were delivered to us. Everything else we got ourselves from the buffet. 6. Space. If you don't like to be around quite a few people don't bother. It's crowded. Not a lot of space with people moving around trying to get food from a small buffet. Would I go back? Probably not. On top of that they have prawns, beef tendon, soy eggs, fish paste, shrimp paste, etc. The free drinks here definitely set it apart from the other hot pot places I've seen in the Boston area. The sauce bar is a bit smaller than other places, but it is restocked a good amount and has a good variety of toppings and sauces to use. The ambiance is ok, sometimes there is music playing and sometimes there isn't. There is a TV but it seems to be out of service as it just loops through ads every time I've been there. Service is good as well. They are quick with the meats and also bring out the dishes proportional to how much people are in your party. Because of the location, you may have to wait a bit depending on your party size, as its harder to seat more than people with a party higher than 8. read more
