Mecha has become one of my favorite restaurants to visit when going to Boston . The pork belly bao buns are light and fluffy while having a delicious pork belly. The tuna and salmon roll are seasoned perfectly and take about three bites . The ramens have the perfect noodle texture and is bursting with flavor . The soy egg is always jammy and the brisket is soft and melts in your mouth. The service and drinks are top notch and the restaurant has a great energy to it. Mixed feelings about my experience. I liked the atmosphere with the lighting but it was louder than I would have liked with the music and background noise. The server who took my order was nice and refilled my water often. I got my food and drink surprisingly quickly considering I was there on a busy Saturday night. I ordered the Sifu Lee cocktail and the Tonkotsu 3.0 with the recommended nori and chili oil. The Sifu Lee was a refreshing yuzu cocktail. The ramen, however, was disappointing. The pork was mostly fat, the noodles were more like spaghetti than ramen noodles in texture and thickness. The broth wasn't as rich as I would expect tonkotsu broth to be. I felt a bit rushed out as I was asked if I wanted the check before I finished my drink without being asked if I wanted anything else. However there was a line forming out the door and almost every seat was full so I can sort of understand. Overall this was not the best first impression but I'd be willing to return and try something different. read more

Listen to me right now, and listen good. Not only does this place have the best mule I've ever tasted in my life, but the food is out of this world. I'm an old lady so my opinion means something more than yours. The service is "mid" as my nephew says, with the waitstaff that is. The bar staff is incredible, with a few hiccups, but hey. They're human too. I recently sat at the bar as these are the only chairs in the establishment with a back to them, and after two back surgeries, I can't sit on those darn stools anymore. I ordered a mule, then food, then asked for my check. Well Billy boo at the bar decided to turn off his ears and bring me another mule that I didn't ask for, and had the nerve to charge me for it! Luckily for him, they make those drinks so strong that I didn't mind, but he made sure to give me a refund and even a free drink on my next trip in! Oh, one thing I did remember as I'm writing this. If you're dining alone as I often do, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR STUFF UNATTENDED! My bladder is smaller than a grain of rice and I had to use the restroom during my meal. Came back and my entire placemat was cleaned up. Food gone, drink gone.... Honestly if the food wasn't so tasty I would never recommend this place, but they get 4 stars for the bao buns alone. I really loved Mecha Noodle Bar. This was my first time trying Pho, and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Pho Ga, and it was so delicious. The chicken itself was so tender and perfectly cooked, and the broth was bursting with flavor. We also ordered the herbed edamame appetizer, and it was incredible. The restaurant itself is beautiful - the decor is stunning and unique, and it feels very chic and authentic at the same time. It was a busy night and we got in the virtual line and were told it would be around an hour wait so we start walking around to see the little shops. We had walked 20min and got told our table was ready. So we had to hurry back so we wouldn't lose the table. The food was good. I wish I had more time to try other items but I always get the spicy miso wherever I go. What a beautifully stunning restaurant! It was a pleasure coming here, especially since it lived up to all of the hype of the reviews. Coolidge Corner is always lively and busy every single night in the summer, so the vibes were amazing as it was packed, music was playing, and everyone was enjoying their time on a regular Tuesday evening. We had these spicy wontons, pork ramen, and these chicken kimchi bao buns. My goodness, it was all so very delicious. My single recommendation if you are to order anything at all is the spicy wontons cause goodness, they were AMAZING. The Pho Ga, as always, was comforting--just as satisfying as I remembered. For its hype I didn't get a wow factor. Maybe I didn't order the right things? The edamame was way too greasy. There was a pool of oil at then bottom of the bowl, couldn't finish it. Loved the huge amount of garlic though! The chicken pho (pho ga) satisfied the craving, but it didn't feel authentic at all. There was barely any chicken (photo shows all of it) and it was sliced?? The broth was also very oily and there wasn't a lot of onion or cilantro. Go to a local Vietnamese spot for your pho. My drink (one bad apple) was just okay, I thought it would be sharper but it was just sweet. One of the better ramen places in Boston (only speaking for the tonkotsu imo). It's a cute vibe if you want to drink and have a casual date night or dinner with friends since it's in Coolidge corner too. They also have a full cocktail menu and spiked boba drinks (which is kind of mid from the first time I went). Their pork slices are a bit too heavy for my taste but I like that they include an egg. I also was surprised when the tonkotsu ramen came out with thin noodles (maybe I just didn't pay attention to the menu but I don't remember it mentioning that). The bao was pretty good but I wish there was more kewpie mayo. read more

Great service, the servers and the bartenders are really down to earth and easy to have a conversation with. The food is good depending on what you get. I would say the items that are a little more "out there" are usually better. I've had the Pork Belly bao, which is delicious, the KFC, which is just as good! I love the baos, and I order the Pork Belly bao every time I come her. The Red Oil Dumplings were great too. I haven't had anything from Mecha that I would consider bad, but some things I've had that I would not order again solely because they weren't stellar are the Kimchi Fried Rice, Saigon Egg Rolls, and Crab Rangoon Dip. Randomly finding their sister location a few months back when I found myself in Stamford, CT.....I was excited to see they were a regional chain of sorts and wanted to take my wife here to celebrate milestones in our life. I just love the decor of this place, the ceiling is instantly recognizable and looks exactly like it did in Connecticut. Always a high volume type of place with 90's hip-hop soothing your soupy soul and a jovial crowd, at least this has been my experience on the weekends. There was a wait of about 30 minutes on an early weekend night, so if you can plan in advance with reservations then do it. Luckily there is so much to see and do around Coolidge Corner to kill time. Upon receiving our text to come back, we were sat outside of the kitchen, at a pretty small table towards the back. Our waitress was friendly and quick to assist but did disappear for a bit mid-meal. I had tried the KFC bao in CT with a person I took there who wasn't all that adventurous and if they liked it, then I figured it had to be another can't miss and I was right. Perfectly crispy to go along with a pillowy bao and just the right amount of sauce, their entire bao offerings here are incredibly on point. Same with the pork belly which we enjoyed just as much. Just like you judge other places by a strategic dish they should have perfected, we both decided on the tonkotsu ramen. I believe the corn is not fresh, it is either freeze dried or frozen so that was slightly disappointing. The broth is bold and flavorful and you can always add in heat/sweetness to your liking from the table offerings. The pork also ended up being slightly tough and overcooked after swimming around for a bit, but I'm not exactly complaining about it....it could just be executed a tiny bit better. It really is the perfect date night place, especially for those that want to find somewhat easy parking vs. needing to pay up downtown. I'm excited to go back and possibly just do like 5-6 orders of baos and that's it, or attempt to try something different like the pho. read more

A wonderful warm treat to warm the soul on a chilly Boston night! My friend introduced me to this restaurant seeing it's his favorite spot to show visitors in the area. I had such a great time here! When we arrived, we immediately opted for bar seating so we could get seated and start eating soon. The menu features both pho and ramen options - my friend enjoys their ramen, so I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. The dish was very flavorful throughout! Really enjoyed the soft boiled egg with the dish, and the broth wasn't super salty. We also shared appetizers such as edamame and mushroom dumplings. The waiter actually raved about the mushroom dumplings, and if it weren't for his support, it's something I would not normally order. But my goodness, those mushroom dumplings are Delicious. There's a medley of mushroom flavor that rushes at you with each bite. The texture is more like smooth paste in the center. It's absolutely worth ordering and seeing it for yourself! Thrilled to have tried this place out because I had just recently moved out of Columbus, OH - where they had recently opened up a location of Mecha Noodle Bar - and I was so bummed at how narrowly I had missed it. This place was really sleek - the interior is intensely well-decorated and makes you feel like you're in a place that matters. Tons of variety in terms of Pho, Ramen, Hand Rolls, etc - wish I could try it all. Located in the midst of Coolidge Corner, this is a pretty cute noodle bar with some degree of a trendy aesthetic to their decor. Street parking is ample, if you know where to find it - with parking lots behind the buildings on both sides of the main road. As for service, the servers and waitstaff are friendly and pretty attentive when it comes to the small things like clearing out dishes and filling up cups, inquiring about allergies and dietary restrictions, and even giving good insights on what's on their menu (which comes in handy when trying to make some decisions). Now for the food... *The Smash Burger bao was pretty tasty, with the qualities of a nice cheeseburger (with some pretty solid shallot bacon jam) in a soft and slightly sweet bao bun. Honestly, I liked this more than I expected, with how the bao bun absorbs the burger juices and melds with the jam. It makes for a pretty interesting fusion item, especially with its mouth feel. *The Spicy Beef Ramen was pretty good for what it was. I particularly enjoyed the broth, noodles, and ramen egg for their own respective flavors and textures. The broth itself had a nice mild spice to it, being pretty flavorful, yet not overly rich. The noodles have one of my favorite qualities when it comes to noodle soups: their springyness - which makes for a good texture when it glides through the broth upon slurping them down. And lastly, the ramen egg was very soft and not overly salty with its marination. On the other hand, the yolk was very rich, creamy, and flavorful - making it quite the delight as an important component of this dish (and, frankly, most other ramen dishes as well). The only downside of this spot was that its portion sizes were smaller than my personal preference as I'm typically more of a big eater, but regardless, I'd totally come back again for the experience! read more

I finally made my way to Mecha ramen! They just released a few new dishes and we were able to try them all! They have a great concept too! Each month they donate money from every bowl to a different local cause :) The ambiance is very modern and the service was quick. We talked to one of the workers who had been at this location from the beginning and he was great! For appetizers, we got red oil dumplings, firecracker wings, and sweet and sour spareribs. All the appetizers were fire. The dumplings were ginormous and had sooo much meat. The wings were overall good but nothing crazy. The ribs were sooo delicious and had a ton of meat!!! I was impressed with how big they were and they were very tender. For ramen, we tried the new spicy seafood ramen, tonkatsu ramen, and spicy miso. The new ramen dish tasted a lot like Korean spicy noodle soup (jjampong) and I liked the noodle texture and they weren't stingy with the seafood. The rest were okay, but wouldn't make my top ramen places in Boston. We also got some cocktails from their new cocktail menu! I like that they use Asian ingredients like yuzu, plum wine, and more. Definitely grab one cocktail if you're there.
