    Gamjatang M

Came here for their HANMARU GAMJATANG and Stir-Fried Jokbal. I tried hamjatang for the first name, it's good. But nothing outstanding. There are 4 big pork bones for medium size. The meat is not too flavorful. But their dipping sauce is very good. Their Stir-Fried Jokbal is amazing. It's my favorite jokbal dish. The jokbal is tender and flavorful. Panchan is pretty good and I like their potato salad a lot. There's a lot of meat in this meal. We (2 persons) cannot finish everything. People next to our tables all pack the leftovers. I'll definitely come back here again for their Stir-Fried Jokbal and something else. We came on Friday night and there's no wait. The place is not loud. There're spaces between tables and it's good for conversations.

Gamjatang M - A wooden table in a Korean restaurant holds a large hot pot topped with fresh greens and vegetables, surrounded by small bowls of kimchi, pickled vegetables, mashed potatoes, and steamed rice. A glass of iced water is also present. In the background, diners are eating at other tables, and the restaurant interior includes wooden chairs and a white wall.

came in on a weekend for dinner and was seated immediately! recommended by my roommate who's been meaning to try this place and we're glad we did! the portion for 2 was more than enough for us!

Banchan - The image shows a table with multiple Korean dishes, including bowls of rice, kimchi, and bean sprouts. There is a large hot pot with a spicy stew on the left side. Chopsticks rest on a black dish, and a block of tofu is visible in a black bowl. The setting appears to be a Korean restaurant with a wooden table surface.

First time trying "gamjatang" will definitely try it again but next time it will be spicy version! Waitress was very attentive as well on managing the soup by flipping over pork bones Atmosphere was really nice aswell, felt like I was in a kdrama a moment lol

Another Korean restaurant on Harvard Ave known for their gamjatang soups. It's a small restaurant, so I would go here with a large group of people, but I'd definitely recommend coming with a friend or two to try out all the dishes. My most recent visit we got the gamjatang, jokbol, bibimbap, and seafood pancake. The soup broth is very flavorful and the meat falls off the bones. The seafood pancake was crispy. We had leftovers of jokbol with all the food that we ordered. The service was good and I would recommend trying this place out if you're looking for a warm cooked Korean meal.

I'm not sure why this place has a 3.7-star rating; I personally thought it deserved a solid 8.5/10. The owner was the only one hosting and taking everyone's orders, and he did an amazing job. He was very attentive to our table, making sure we had everything we needed. We were a party of three and ordered the Hanmaru Signature Gamjatang Large. Flavor-wise, it was quite light yet hearty, and there was more than plenty for the three of us. We also tried the pig's feet, which, in my opinion, had a better flavor than the soup. We didn't realize they closed at 9 until we checked our phones and the owner wasn't in a rush in kicking us out. I would definitely recommend this place to others and would go again!

Decent Korean food place, nothing mind blowing but good. They mainly specialize in gamja-tang, bossoms, and pork feet dishes. We only tried their gamja-tang and it was good, the pork was very tender. The medium size it pretty big and can definitely be shared by 2-3 people. The spicy squid was okay, and the galbi was good. The service was just alright, nothing impressive and when I asked the server if there's shrimp powder used in the seasoning of the soup.. because a lot of Korean dishes use shrimp powder regardless of it being a meat dish (used in the spicy seasoning ex: kimchi) he didn't bother to check with the kitchen/and was a little rude about it. But I was just checking since I have an allergy A good amount of seating at the restaurant, reservations are available if you want to be safe but it didn't seem like you needed to make any if you have a smaller group. If you like any of their specialty items they offer, I would say check it out!

A large stainless steel hot pot containing broth, leafy greens, bean sprouts, and other vegetables is positioned on an induction stove on a wooden table. Surrounding the hot pot are bowls of rice, side dishes, and utensils, with a person seated nearby wearing a dark hoodie with a lightning bolt design. The setting appears to be a Korean restaurant with traditional dining elements.

It's been too long since I've come here but sadly it wasn't like how I remembered it to be. Overall, the meal was still yummy but a few ingredients were skimped out this time. The pot no longer includes tofu and the potatos are sliced thinner (I know I sound super picky) but I feel like those changes impacted the experience. The broth got weirdly thick after like 20min since the potatoes almost disintegrated into the soup. And I'm just sad that they no longer include tofu :( it's still available as an add on. This is a one of a kind spot for Boston so I still recommend it if you're craving a bowl of hot soup!

Slices of Korean pancake, possibly seafood or vegetable, are arranged on a black rectangular plate. The pancakes are golden brown with visible green onion pieces. The plate is part of a Korean meal setting, with other dishes and a small black bowl visible in the background.

On a Wednesday evening, a group of 6 (including myself), went to Hanmaru for dinner. Since we had a reservation at 715, we received seating immediately. The entire table ended up ordering family style, getting corn cheese ($12), a seafood pancake ($14), the Hanmaru Signature Gamtajang ($43, large size), tofu kimchi ($17), and a dolsot bimbimbap (which I didn't get to try). The table received rice and banchan w/in 5 minutes, and plates streamed in over the next 10 minutes. The corn cheese tastes exactly as one would expect. Arriving on a hot plate proved a nice touch. It did seem overpriced, however. The seafood pancake seemed lackluster. It did not have much seafood, tasting more like a too-lightly salted scallion pancake. Also, its form factor, precut squares, gave the illusion of small portion size. Perhaps an optical illusion, but it proved visually unsatisfying. The Gamjatang, a pork neck bone stew and Hanmaru's signature dish, arrived on a large sukiyaki-like bowl placed in the center of the table, which had a burner to keep the stew hot. The stack of vegetables and spices could not effectively hide that the stew only had 6 pieces of pork neck bone. The soup itself, while flavorful, seemed low in volume. I would have much liked having double that amount to get some decent bowls of stew in. The tofu kimchi proved delicious and savory. It's essentially a spicy pork, kimchi, and rice cake stir fry topped with tofu.

Gamjatang - A large stainless steel pot contains Korean gamjatang, a pork back bone soup, with visible vegetables such as napa cabbage, tofu, and leafy greens. The pot is on a portable stove on a table set with rice, a bowl with a spoon, and other dishes. The setting appears to be a Korean restaurant with a wooden floor and typical tableware.

This is the only place in Boston I've had gamjatang and I LOVEE IT. It's not too big of a place but I never had to wait. The service is great; we get plenty of side dishes as well and refills too. Their signature gamjatang is my go-to. The broth is flavorful! Definitely a place to go if you wanna have a family style meal.

I have wanted to go to this local spot in Allston to try the jokbal(pig feets) for the first time. It feels very homey inside like your moms about to cook for you with a small menu of classic korean comfort foods. They have apps, meat and even hot pot on the menu. I really enjoyed the jokbal which reminded me of the texture of pork belly and was very flavorful. We got the spicy version but it honestly was like a 1-2 spiciness. Galbi was rich in flavor as well, just a little bit of a tug or war in regards to the chewiness. Our waiter was helpful with letting us know about the jokbal options and re-checking what my friend could have because she had a seafood allergy. They also listed on the menu allergies icons for seafood, pork, beef, etc which was nice. Korean food is always a little pricey but I always forget about that as our bill was almost $70 for two entrees that don't come with rice. But, you can ask for it free of charge. Good portions and good taste would go here on a monday night for a relaxing dinner. Food Jokbal bokum LA Galbi Prices $$ Food 7 Atmosphere 5 Service 8

Came by with a friend around 1pm on a Saturday - the place is not that big and was pretty busy but thankfully there was a table open for us! Ordering was also smooth as well - there's an option to order and pay online directly via the menu link, but they can also take your order in person too. We ordered the yuk gae jang, corn cheese, dolsot bibimbap, and stir-fried spicy pork. Yuk gae jang was not bad! Shredded beef was super tasty but the broth was a bit too oily, and I personally would have preferred some more noodles for the portion size. Corn cheese was a bit flat - it tasted much like a bowl of creamed corn with some melted mozzarella on top; not bad in an absolute sense, but not really what I expected from corn cheese. Stir-fried spicy pork was fantastic - pork was tender, veggies were well-cooked, and portion size was great. And, it was nice that everything was really spicy (as we wanted!). Lastly the bibimbap was pretty good too - beef had a good juicy flavour and the fresh veggies, gochujang, and egg paired really nicely with the large portion of rice for a very filling bowl overall. Price point was not the lowest, but the portion sizes were very large (e.g. if we had come with a few more people it would definitely have been very worth it to share amongst more people). They seem to specialise in the gamjatang which we didn't get this time, but I'd love to try it out on my next visit. Looking forward to it!

Hotpot for 2 - after watercress is submerged - A large metal hot pot containing a broth with vegetables, tofu, and a piece of meat is placed on a portable stove on a restaurant table. Surrounding the hot pot are side dishes, a pair of chopsticks, a spoon, and a red drink in a tall glass. The setting appears to be a casual dining environment with wooden flooring and chairs in the background.

This is definitely a gem in the neighborhood! Feels like having home cooked meal at Hanmaru. Decent price, good portion, flavorful food and friendly staff. What more can you ask for?! The kalbi is a must order. The hotpot was great especially on a cold rainy day. Jap Chae with seafood is another option if you're not into rice. This is not a fancy restaurant but it's clean and cozy. Will come back for sure!

Hanmaru does not have a really large menu, so I only come here when I feel like having gamjatang. I ordered the Gamjatang B to share with my friends. They also served us banchan that included about four different dishes. I did enjoy how they gave me a bucket for the bones alongside gloves and utensils to help scoop different ingredients from the pot. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the lack of soup present. The pot is quite big, but the soup is only filled to the halfway point, so you are left with some ingredients not even soaked in the soup. Most of the bones did not have much meat clinging to them. I also wish there was a bit more of each ingredient. The potatoes were especially scarce, and even if they were present, they were only about half the size of my palm. I also felt that the flavoring of the soup was not that prominent nor rich, which made it less impactful. Service was fine as they left you alone until you needed them. Once you wave them down, they are responsive and fast at meeting your needs. Overall, this experience felt a bit lackluster, so I am not inclined to come back when there are other Korean restaurants in the area.

It was juicy chicken thighs and went really great with the white rice which was also cooked perfectly and the perfect texture. I would come back again for the banchan, japchae and chicken soup again. I do have a few criticisms on the meal. For a set meal, I don't think it was present in the most enjoyable order. The pancake came in right before the final dish of the chicken soup. The flavor and texture wasn't very good and felt so out of place as everything else was so well done. While I appreciated small touches with being able to put your jackets in a plastic bag under your seat, everything else fell a bit short. The quality of the meats and produce was a bit disappointing. The onion our server used to flavor and start our grill with looked dry, the pumpkin seemed to have a bit of frost as though it were frozen, and the overall quality of the meat was a bit lackluster. Even towards the end of our meal, even when our server told us the meat was ready, a couple of pieces were still raw. The banchan was not bad and the bibim naengmyeon we had was probably the best part of our meal. Sadly I don't think we'll be back based on our experience.
