I haven't been here before but I've seen a ton of reviews that this is a Goated sandwich spot so I stopped by on my way to the city to grab one. It's in a pretty busy shopping plaza and so parking might be tough. But you walk in and the line is wrapped around with a bunch of sandwich makers that make your order fresh. I ended up getting the lucca's ultimate (turkey, ham, bacon and cheese) on dutch crunch. The sandwich is huge btw so you can definitely split one with someone else. Everything tasted fresh and the garlic sauce is incredible. I will say that the bread isn't toasted and pretty thick so the bite that you get can sometimes be a bit hard to bite through. It might even borderline on being a bit dry because of that. Maybe if it was hallowed out a bit and then toasted, that would be my preference. Overall though, a good sandwich spot read more

This visit, we ordered the "Double Beef," packed with pastrami, corned beef, coleslaw, and Russian dressing on sourdough. Sooo good. A meibutsu roughly translates out to "famous thing" and it refers to a regional specialty or other famous goods and signature dishes in a specific area. If I have to designate a "meibutsu" to Burlingame, it'd be Little Lucca. Came here on a random Tuesday after Memorial Day weekend, slightly after lunch and it was still PACKED to the brim. Super organized winding line and you can tell it's regulars who are grabbing lunches and who have already put in big orders through the phone. Local favorite and easily can see why. The specialty is their original garlic sauce from the 1980's and their comically huge sandwiches. The other must is to get their Dutch Crunch since it's a more unique bread that isn't commonly offered elsewhere. To be honest, this was the first time I've even heard of this bread. Also TRIGGER WARNING, skip over this part if you fear medical maladies or body horror, but the texture of this bread reminds me of scaled diabetic calves from my time working in the hospital. Disturbing random thought I had, but the sandwiches are delicious! Toasted to perfection, slathered in sauce, super huge. You can always build your own sandwich, but I'm no expert and it's always best to let the real sandwich artisans do their jobs. Cannot go wrong with their turkey sandwich if you like a Thanksgiving taste and Lucca Combo (anything with their titular title in the name, is a solid choice). MY FAVORITE SANDWICH SHOP! Little Lucca's has held the title for over 10 years. I don't think I even had a favorite spot before them. I gotta say... they have never let me down. I've tried a lot of different sandwiches. Some of my faves are the Seafood Combo (Tuesdays and Fridays), the Ultimate with pepper jack cheese, and a good old pastrami. Just had a terrible experience with these guys. Ordered a sandwich on doordash, like I do every few weeks. Get there and they claim there's no record of it. My partner and I got the Southwestern and Chicken Santa Fe on dutch crunch. We asked the workers their favorite sandwich and EVERY SINGLE RESPONSE was Tri Tip!!! Now we know! Quick review. We tried 3 sandwich specials with Dutch crunch bread. I would say they were underwhelming in terms of the sauces and condiments used. For example, the chicken Santa Fe has a nice touch w the raspberry chipotle, but it could have used more zing to it, like a lemon aioli or garlic spread. Instead of cheddar, I would change it to pepper jack or provolone so it compliments the pesto. The fire roasted steak Caesar could've used some pepperoncinis or something else to add heat. Another lesson learned is I definitely should ask for the bread to be toasted next time. Pricing was about $15-18 a sandwich which I'm not that mad about. It's better than Katz Deli being $30. Of course the OG location for any place will be better than the newer ones. However if I'm really craving and don't wanna wait in a long line I'd opt into going to the Burlingame location. I was so happy to find out there is a Burlingame location as I heard wonderful things about the South San Francisco place. It's a quaint shop with ample parking. We were greeted with a line out the door already for a Saturday lunch time rush. It was actually perfect because it'll give you time to decide on what to order. This location is a bit faster than the other one and a lot roomier for people to walk through and stuff. They make the sandwiches just as bomb as the other location. I'm always craving a good sandwich and this place delivers all the time. The service is quick but can get slowed down by the lunch and "dinner" rush. Everything customizable and you can basically make anything. I love their Dutch bread but the later in the day it is, the harder the bread sort becomes. I didn't have a good experience the first time I tried it because one of the meats in the muffaletta was impossible to tear and poor quality. Despite the olive spread, the muffaletta tasted nothing like a real muffaletta. It also caught me off guard that they tore away part of the bread and threw it away to make space for the filling. The Dutch crunch isn't that crunchy either. On the contrary, the Lucca combo sandwich special was pretty good because of the garlic sauce. It was salty and saucy in the best way but slightly messy. I haven't been to this location in years, but after my last experience, I think this now my go-to out of the two locations. Mostly because I feel like the quality of the sandwiches. Before my golf round, we needed some food for the course. I got there right when we opened, and the taller gentleman who took my order made my sandwich perfectly. I ordered two sandwiches. Pastrami on Dutch and Turkey on soft sweet. I messed up because I got their regular turkey instead of the peppered turkey. The regular turkey doesn't feel as high quality but it does what it needs to do. I asked for light sauces bc at the other location, they drench it and the bread gets really soggy. Not this time though, the sandwich was well put together, and was an easy eat while on the golf course. I know this spot gets busy but I feel like it's more manageable and quicker compared to the other location, plus the parking situation is way better as well.
