Get the Chile verde breakfast plate, it's totally worth it. I got it with potatoes instead of rice, great decision too. Plates are HUGE! Yes you'll have plenty to take home. Cash only but use the ATM in store. I only wished my coffee was refilled and service took quite some time so I'd say don't get hangry, it's worth it though, I think old school vibes with truck stop appeal is appropriate, but it's family too! Servers are sooo friendly can't blame them if they spark up conversation to seal in the home style cooking going on behind the scenes! Enjoy!
Wowowow, I've been coming to this spot since high school and it's always been the BEST. I love taking family and friends here because the food is always sooooo delicious. Literally feel like I'm going to heaven. The atmosphere has gone through its fair share of changes, and though I do miss the Betty Boops and license plates, the lighting they have now actually looks pretty cool and the soft music that plays is also nice too :3. Service is always quick, attentive, and kind :). I've recommended this place to several people in the area and I will definitely continue to recommend it to more :D
Such a hit, this place was soooo good. I mean everything was just delicious! I got the chilaquiles and my boyfriend got the huevo rancheros didn't get any pictures of that he ate it so fast! We sat on the outside patio which was dog friendly. Our server was very nice and attentive. I'll definitely be going back and bragging about how good this place is.
First time going to Lisa's in almost 2 years and man, I wish I didn't go back today. For starters, the place is not what it was back then when you walked in. Before, the place felt super homey, welcoming and the vibes were just there. A diner you would actually want to go weekly with your family or even a solo trip. Whoever bought the place absolutely GUTTED the soul and warmth out of the space. Before, the walls were covered with different legit retro signs of Betty Boop or funny wall frames, pictures of families, regulars, collection of license plates, the whole 9 yards. The windows were always decorated seasonally and if you were to see the place from the street, you would actually want to stop by and check it out. Now... it feels like a cold gym locker. The walls looked like they picked the cheapest blue and black paint they could get on sale and threw it on the walls without priming them first. LED signs to give it that cheap retro look that isn't it. Should have kept it how it was if retro is what you were going for. Also invest in toilet seat covers, raw dogging the toilet seat isn't for everyone. Not sure if it's the pipes or maybe the mop wasn't cleaned right, but the women's restroom smelled like wet dog. Service was great. The former owner served us, she was a but rushed but nonetheless, great hospitality. She welcomed every guest with such warmth and like an old friend. Didn't catch the name of the guy with the gauges, but he had great service as well. The food was all right. Definitely too well seasoned and salty. The waffles and pancakes were bland, not even the butter or syrup was able to save them. Add more vanilla or cinnamon to the batter if they're made from scratch. The plates are no longer glass or ceramic, they are now a hard plastic material, so don't cut too hard on them to prevent getting some mircoplastics on your food. We spent about $82.00 on 3 food items, a coffee with refills and an apple juice. This place is STILL CASH so bring cash or use their ATM machine.
It a nice small diner. I really enjoyed the hamburger steak that I ordered topped with mushroom and it came with potato topped with the gravy same as the one they used for the biscuits and gravy + garlic bread. The hamburger patty was crunchy on the outside and so as the garlic bread. The gravy on top of the mashed potato was delicious. The service was good. Welcoming and attentive. FYI - cash only but they do have an ATM machine.
What a great coffee shop. I'd seen this joint on Yelp many times because I routinely search for diners. This one I always came up, but I always thought it was a little far and the cash-only policy made me think twice about checking it out. However, it's actually pretty great. The biscuits and gravy, while not the biggest portion, was very tasty and filled me up fine. They also do some great coffee in giant mugs, which is always a plus. I would definitely order this again, But the biggest surprise was when the server saw my eggs came out a little more cooked than my order of "Sunny & Runny", she asked the cook to make me two more, more befitting of my ideal eggs. Those two were perfect. That's ideal customer service, anticipating my needs before I even brought them up. What's even more ironic is that I probably wouldn't have even complained about the initial eggs as they were only slightly burnt. I've definitely had more overcooked many, many times in many, many different places. Any food joint willing to make and re-make eggs till they're just so has got my attention. Lastly, the coffee shop wasn't busy when I walked in, which kind of unnerved me. I like it when a place is 50-80% of capacity when I decide to eat there. It shows it's popular but not overbooked. But what I did see was a quaint and comfortable dining area, a nice place to unwind while eating, and some great charm everywhere you like. As far as places to eat breakfast or brunch in peace, this was pretty fantastic. Coming back isn't a matter of if; it's just a matter of when.0

I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak meal ($19.99); it came with eggs & hash browns. I paid an additional ($5.99) to upgrade the toast to biscuit with gravy. Lisa's Coffee Shop (Covina) is filled with flaws, but it's not a bad experience. (IMPORTANT: Cash only. Card is not accepted. There's an ATM in the back.) I arrived at Lisa's Coffee Shop (Covina) on Sunday (around 9:06AM). Parking is simple and convenient. I appreciated its large private parking lot. Walking towards the entrance, I observed scratched-up windows adorning metal bars. Immediately, staff brightly welcomed me when I'd entered. I was encouraged to choose any table. Staff felt professional, diligent, and friendly. Staff maintained a kind smile. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak meal ($19.99) with scrambled eggs & hash browns. And I had the biscuit with gravy ($5.99). The food arrived in seven minutes and 21 seconds. Fast! I appreciated the meal. I enjoyed the chicken fried steak's crisp & thin crust. I liked its thick, satisfying meat & texture. The chicken fried steak was also well-seasoned and cooked thoughtfully. I also enjoyed the crisp & fluffy biscuit and fresh scrambled eggs. Unfortunately, the gravy tasted very bland. If assigning a flavor, this gravy tasted like defrosted watery mushrooms. Despite its thick texture & alluring appearance, there's no taste. If that gravy had any seasoning, it had faded away a very long time ago. In addition, the hash browns came soggy and mushy. Its potatoes didn't taste old, but the hash browns had the squishy texture of wet mashed potatoes. Concerning ambiance, Lisa's Coffee Shop (Covina) is clean, well-ventilated, and no-frills. Unfortunately, it's a very ugly place. The menus are falling apart; the chairs had rips in them; and the place plays no music. There's a heavy awkward silence when customer's aren't chatting. However, I appreciated the few neon light decor hanging from its walls. Still, Lisa's Coffee Shop (Covina) looks like a spruced up school cafeteria. Overall, Lisa's Coffee Shop (Covina) is not bad. Old school diner built in 1964 as per the current owner (I believe her name is Cindy) who shared the history of the diner with my wife and I. The vibe upon entering is that of stepping back in time as there are original items on display and the layout of the restaurant is still intact. Note: the restaurant is currently awaiting a new AC to be installed within the next few days and as a result, there is no AC however, the owner has fans going full speed in an attempt to keep the restaurant somewhat cool and comfortable for customers. The service offered by the owner was FANTASTIC! She was the only waitress, cashier and hostess during our visit and she worked non stop the entire time as the restaurant was short staffed on this particular day. Upon ordering our food, the waitress was approximately twenty-three minutes before we received our order. Very acceptable wait time for our food and no complaints whatsoever. Each item we ordered was DELICIOUS!! Fresh and filling. The shop may look and feel a bit older however, the food and our dining experience was very positive.
Lisa's Coffee Shop is a hidden gem in Covina. The exterior of the coffee shop is humble. It is a hole in the wall. You can miss the location easily. The parking lot has limited spots, but we parked easily. The interior is cozy and has inviting vibes. It is a classic diner for breakfast and lunch.They accept cash only. We were greeted once we entered the coffee shop. Isis was our hostess. She was a sweet lady. She took our order right away and she checked on us a couple of times. We ordered the following: - Veggie omelette 5/5 I ordered egg white with vegetables and topped with pepper Jack cheese. It came with 2 sourdough toast and two mini jam. The omelette was savory and delicious.The portion was huge. - Biscuit and gravy 5/5 Their gravy was so creamy and flavorful. The biscuits were buttery, rich and freshly baked. - Hashbrown 5/5 Crispy, golden and fluffy. - Pancakes 5/5 Had spongy texture, buttery and huge. Everything was really perfect. The service was excellent. The food was fresh and delicious.
"I think my taste buds have officially evolved past Lisa's. We happened to be in the area, so it was a convenient pit stop, but I won't be making a return trip. It hits the 'utility' notes of a breakfast--high energy and filling--but fails to offer anything memorable. It's the kind of place that's 'good enough' when you're hungry, but not quite good enough to justify the gas money.
Yummy! I was in the area Sunday afternoon and wanted a quick bite. I'm always looking for a place the locals frequent. Plenty of parking (they have their own lot), patio, very welcoming and friendly service. The menu isn't overwhelmingly large, which was nice. I loved the hash browns, probably the best I've had in a while. The top was nice and buttery + crunchy. The tables/ mugs were a little sticky, but they had been busy so they likely didn't have a chance to wipe everything down thoroughly. Definitely worth checking out if you're into the small town diner vibe
NOTE: Still "CASH ONLY", but they do have an ATM onsite. Lisa's Coffee Shop is a local breakfast/lunch favorite of ours. Service is good and the food is tasty. Décor is that of an old diner with booths, tables, and counter seating. Parking is in their private lot. Sunday traffic can be busy, as there's a large church right next door and they usually have police directing the traffic. Everything on the menu is usually good, and the portions are large. Their "country gravy" is one of my favorites, but on the last couple of visits, we felt the hash browns and over-easy eggs were slightly undercooked. That said, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.
I had some time and decided I would trust Yelp to guide me to the best sausage gravy and biscuits nearby. Lisa's Coffee Shop popped up as the number one choice. It was further east but close enough. 9 a.m. on a Thursday and the spot was void of visitors. I was nervous but adventurous. As I entered, I had that reminiscent feeling of a middle America truck stop equipped with booths and seating at the coffee bar. If you ever went to a dive bar, you get the hint. Americana decor to include cool signs, punch lines, old license plates and pup pictures. I am sold. I sat down at the bar and ordered biscuits with sausage gravy and 2 eggs over from the very nice lady who happens to own this spot. The food came out quickly and it was delicious. I asked for some extra gravy and I was astonished when a huge glass of the good stuff came out of the kitchen, (think small gold fish bowl). I mean it is good enough to just guzzle down after all. The Chile Verde was being cooked up for lunch and I have to say this spot is a fun destination you need to visit.

As I'm sitting here, I'm filled with so many happy emotions. I haven't been to Lisa's since the ownership changed, and honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought I might come back and immediately feel all the changes but quite the contrary. It was such a beautiful feeling. Change isn't always easy, and it isn't always bad! They upgraded the place a bit, and it still had that same wonderful vibe. The neon lights were beautifully placed, keeping that continuous '50s feel that makes Lisa's so special. The changes were minimal, the menu was still the same, and the food was spectacular, as usual. The coffee cups were still all unique and adorable, and the plates were still full. But the best part of it all? Cindy greeted us. That alone made me smile. I will definitely be coming back because why not? If I could suggest just two little things: adding a larger neon "OPEN" sign would help, because with the blinds it looked like the restaurant was closed. And since I'm in my '80s era, I'd love to hear a little '80s music! Lisa's still has that special feeling, and I'm so happy I returned. And if you haven't already, add Lisa's to your diner bucket list! You won't regret it. read more

The restaurant is in a great location on a quiet street with plenty of parking. it made me feel like I was dining in a charming small town. Cindy was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Texas-style sirloin steak, and she recommended the Southern toast as my side. It turned out to be the perfect choice--absolutely delicious. She was also very attentive, checking on us often and making sure my coffee cup was always refilled. The steak was generously sized, perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. Even the potato was wonderfully seasoned and aromatic. Every bite was satisfying and comforting. My friend and I truly enjoyed a relaxing and memorable brunch, with great food, excellent service, and a cozy atmosphere that made us feel right at home. read more

Lisa's coffee shop is fire! Stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon and I was glad I could still have breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried steak with a side of French toast. The chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The gravy was the best, nicely salted and packed with flavor. The French toast were covered in cinnamon which was a nice touch and they were super moist. The coffee was delicious and strong. The service was prime and the place was nice and cozy. Working through a list of all diners in LA County and next up was Lisa's. It's a cash only, classic little diner over in West Covina. All these Route 66 diners have such a great history to them and most have great food as well. Inside is quite small, but they have booth and counter seating available, as well as some larger tables for larger groups. They don't have outdoor seating. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. They don't have a lot of traditional items on their menu but still have a lot of good options. Pricing is also very fair, I find that the places that are cash only tend to be less expensive because they don't have to deal with credit card fees. There's also a free, large parking lot right out front so parking is really easy. As always, I started off with a cup of coffee and I was happy to see that these come in huge mugs and it is very strong. After two full cups I had a lot of energy and was ready to tackle my day. Given that they don't have a lot of traditional items on their menu I decided to try one of their specialties, which is the Full Attack. It's basically two biscuits with sausage and egg on top covered with gravy and honestly I thought it was really good. This is something that I never order so it was nice to try something new and I would recommend it. Overall I would recommend, especially if you are in the West Covina area. read more

Unfortunately I had a few bad experiences here. Hair in my food ( I understand things happen and still returned) and the next time I went back I swear my food (same dish) had finger holes in it like someone was dissecting it. I returned the plate because it was obviously man handled and the cashier loudly complained about me returning it. Neither time did any manager apologize or address me in any way. Awe - we didn't love our meal this time. My sister said her hash browns tasted stale. She said her veggie omelette was okay. I ordered pork chops and mashed potato lunch. I didn't expect the breakfast sausage gravy. I thought it would be a brown gravy. The chops had lots of flavor but they were very greasy. The greasy pork chops with greasy sausage gravy was way too much grease. I think I only could muster getting through 20% of my plate. The mashed potatoes had good flavor! Also, the coffee was really bad. I don't understand why diners insist on serving crap coffee. :( Our server was awesome! Really cool guy with a good personality. read more

We tried the new weekend menu! It was delicious !!! Oh my gosh I'm so happy I had it recommended to me. The staff explained the new menu and the inside of the restaurant is redone. So I love the colors and the ambiance of the place !!! I will come again next weekend for this eggs Benedict!!! Go and try it out !! read more

Wow...this was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I had been craving biscuits and gravy, and did some Yelp searching and remembered Lisa's Coffee Shop. I used to be a regular, but after moving hadn't been in a couple of years. When I walked in at 10:00 a.m. on a Friday morning, there was only a couple sitting at the breakfast bar. The restaurant was a ghost town. The server had her back turned so I stood at the entry way for a minute. The couple even seemed a little perplexed. I was finally acknowledged and the server said I could sit anywhere. I picked a booth near the door and ordered a coffee. The basket of creamers was FILTHY. On top of one of the creamer cups leaking milk, there were splashed drops of brown over the majority of the creamer cups (I assume/hope coffee splatters)? It was disgusting. I had to carefully inspect to try to find one creamer cup that was not corrupted. I placed an order for biscuits and gravy, eggs over medium with bacon, and requested a side of breakfast potatoes. The server did not bother to write my order down, which is fine...except that as she was walking away she asked me again how I wanted my eggs and whether I wanted sausage or bacon. The server brought me my food, and I could not BELIEVE this. She had brought sausage instead of bacon and actually said to me, "The cook put sausage but I'm sure you are okay with that?" What the actual F. I was so stunned I don't think I even responded. Made me suspect that they were out of bacon? Nevertheless, who am I to correct her, apparently she knows better as the server so I didn't argue since I *should* be okay with the sausage instead of the bacon I ordered. My goodness...the biscuits and gravy were disgusting. They tasted...old? Maybe freezer burn? They tasted not the least bit fresh and made my nostrils hurt from the weird/old aroma. The biscuit was actually fine, and the disgusting culprit was the gravy. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The potatoes were cooked nicely but had zero salt or seasoning. Oh, and delightful, the server gave me a side of ketchup in a plastic cup and thankfully she spilled it all over the edge, so when I picked it up to add some to my potatoes I proceeded to get ketchup all over my fingers. The icing on the cake was when the server brought me the bill. She stated that that POS was down, and attempted to scribble a bill on a scrap of paper. She said, "Don't worry, the total is $25 even." Who knows although I think her math and tax are not adding up. I didn't recall the pricing for the coffee, biscuits and potatoes so I had to just take her word for it. Reluctantly gave $29 and walked out without even being acknowledged. And yes, I had tummy issues the minute I returned home. This place needs to burn to the ground and do the owner a favor. read more

We came here for Sat brunch after hiking because we felt like breakfast. The restaurant has a retro Route 66 diner feel to it with very friendly and personable servers. Now for the food, I ordered the veggie omelette with wheat toast and country potatoes. The dish was delicious, tasty, and just bursting with flavors. The portion was large that I only ate half and had the other half for dinner. Plus the food here is reasonable cost wise. I loved this spot from the vibe, service, and delicious food! I'll definitely be back when in the area. read more
