Love this place. Went here when Dr. Linden was still around and it was a little hole-in-the-wall. Wait times are hit and miss. Best time, hands down, is at 1PM on a weekday. We always make an appointment. Lots of staff change. Bunch of lifers have retired or passed away but there are some familiar faces. We love Dr. Linden (daughter in law) for pediatrics as well as Dr. Alan Limfat and Dr. Tom Wong. They've taken all of our insurance. Big plus. read more

My husband and I are always looking and seeking ways to support local business. Linden Optometry is one of those places. Well that was a mistake. They have very shady patient care and business practices. see below. We both went to have our eye's examed and then pick out frames. We both had our eye's dialated and it takes 30 minutes for the drops to work. After an hour, I went to the desk to inquire and let them know that it had been so long. Oops! The doctor who did my eye exam did not let anyone know that she put drops in my eyes and then when to lunch. I was flabergasted! This is not good patient care. Not adding to the fact that we made the appointment for 12 noon and it took 90 minutes for us to get see a doctor. (what was the point of making an appointment.) You may not exchange or return any frames that you purchase at Lindens. It is not posted or stated any where, but all sales are final. Even if they do not fit properly or give you a headache. We found this out the hard way. My husband picked out some nice frames. After a week, he went back in to let them know that they sit on his bridge differently than his other glasses and the frames were giving him a headache. The person who waited on us told us that we have 90 days to see how they work. "Try these nose pads." After 10 days the nose pads fell off (it was just a simple adhesive backing.) But to replace the nose pads it was $10 for a package of 6 - a one month supply. Again, after a month, he went back in trying to return the frames to get a better fit. This is when we found out all of the "unwritten" rules and policies for Lindens. Don't go there! Don't waste your time and frustration. read more

Although the place is always busy I've never had trouble with assistance. The staff in Pasadena is very lovely, particularly Danielle whom I had the pleasure of meeting yesterday. I went in (without a scheduled appointment) to get assistance with my frames, which I thought the screw had just fallen out of. Turns out it was more than that! That said, they were close to closing and I'm sure on a holiday trying to get out of there for the evening but that didn't stop Danielle from going out of her way to help me and make my experience as pleasant as possible. Thank you Danielle! I've been going here for years and have never written a review however, I felt the need considering how helpful Danielle was and what a great experience I had. This place is a TOTAL hit or miss.... Most of the time it's a miss! I've been a patient here off and on since I was 8yrs old . The only reason I kept coming back was they will take you as a walk in at any time really & if you need to renew your prescription asap it's the place to go- They ALWAYS make you wait even if you have an appointment you are guaranteed to will wait at least 40mins to see the doc- My favorite line they use in the waiting room when you run out of patience is "Oh let me check, it will be a five more minutes" which easily turns into 15-20 :-( And it's never the same doctor- the staff is usually rude- there are sooo many people working there you wonder WTH is taking so long to get someone to help me out here? So bottom line take the extra few minutes to find a different place to go to- It's worth the search... The only reason I gave this place an extra star is because they do have a pretty big selection of glasses- read more

I'd like to give Linden 1.5 stars. Since Yelp doesn't allow it, I'm rounding down. First, the PROS: huge selection, decent optometrist(s), ample parking. Now, the CONS: I really want to type "stupidity" here, but that seems harsh. Let me explain. This all with the same pair of glasses: 1. I took a pair of glasses to get the lenses re-done as sunglasses. When asked how old the frames were (2.5 years), I was told they were "old" and "fragile." Ummm... 2. When picking out the tint level, I remarked that transition lenses never got dark enough. I was asked if I wanted darker, to which I (foolishly??) said yes. The glasses I picked up could have been used for welding or watching a solar eclipse. Seriously. They were too dark to even read the dashboard display in my car. 3. They broke the plastic on the temple. I pointed it out and was told it was a SCRATCH... that went the whole way around... and was only saved by the metal of the temple. Now, I know we're talking about eyeglasses here, but I am not blind, and I know what BROKEN looks like. I don't make it a habit of patronizing businesses that lie and treat me like an idiot. Silly me. I gave them another chance this year. It won't happen again. The dr and contact lens tech were very nice. That's about it. Once again despite an appointment it was an extremely long wait. This time I had to also wait in another room for a contact lens tech. That took forever, me blind with no contacts on, despite there being no other clients around. I went to pick up my contacts and was thrilled to see a drive thru after all they just need to hand me what I had ordered. At my other dr office this took 5 minutes only because I stopped talk to them for 4 1/2 minutes. Despite having three people servicing the drive thru, all reading entertainment magazines, I was told I had to go inside. Apparently one couldn't walk the 10 feet to get the boxes for me. Now here I sit AGAIN WAITING. All I want is the boxes of contacts I already got fitted for and paid for. No change from my last prescription. No change from my last contact manufacturer. Once again no other client in the contact lenses area. JUST ME NOT BEING HELPED. Honestly I should have ordered these by mail and they would have been dropped off at my house days ago. Shoot. Another client just saw down. Now the 4 people I'm starring at in the contact lenses room will really have to hustle. I'm still here if the person who reads these wants to come help me. read more

I don't get it. I've read the reviews of this place & it just doesn't add up. I went for the first time today and was nothing but impressed! First off, what a HUGE selection of frames (both high end and affordable). I was greeted IMMEDIATELY by a very nice man who was more than willing to assist me. After choosing my frames, the front desk asked me if I'd like them to put them on hold until I got back with my prescription. Then I was off to the next room where you get more than 3-4 doctors examine people! It was like a eye doctor's office but adjoined to a eye glasses store. I was a walk in so I did have to wait but not too bad (45-60 minutes). It turned out to be about 30/40 minutes. A very nice doctor saw me. The process was friendly & relaxing. Next up, ordering my prescription lenses & purchasing the frames. It was a very quick process and when I requested than my glasses be rushed, they did what they could to accommodate me (instead of waiting 8 days, I'm waiting 5). For those looking for a nice, pleasant experience purchasing frames or getting an eye exam, this place is definitely worth your time. read more

Now that I'm no longer tied down to Linden Optometry because of my mom's plan, I feel like a free bird. I feel like I can do anything because I'm not wasting away in this place! This place is like a sweatshop. There's tons of people running around like their heads are cut off and it takes FOREVER to get anything done. I usually have my appointments first thing in the morning on Saturdays (whenever they open - I think that's around 8-9am) and I'm STILL stuck in there until about noon. It just sucks. If you have an appointment, it helps, but not by much. You're stuck sitting in the back room, waiting for a doctor (sometimes I feel like there's only two of them in the entire place). I went there the other day just to get a copy of my prescription - it took them half an hour to find a doctor to sign off on it. My god, how hard is it to sign a piece of paper? The only thing good about Linden are their coupons - you can get a pretty good glasses/contacts/exam package for around $120. But you have to choose from discount frames (which are all pretty ugly or reminiscent of your grandparents). As for nice designer frames, they have quite a selection, but the wait is unbearable considering I can get the same thing at Lenscrafters with half the hassle. read more

It's not a bad place, it's just very much not my style. Linden Optometry is in a large, gorgeous art deco space that looks like it used to be an old department store. There's super-easy parking in back (enter from Union Street) and even a drive through pickup window for your completed prescriptions. It was easy to get an appointment and they worked with my insurance with no problems at all. Totally seamless. The optometrist I saw and the staff I interacted with were all perfectly competent. I did not think the service I received was personal -- there was a lot of being shuffled from one room to the next, from one person to the next, without any explanation of what we were doing or where we were going or why it was necessary. At one point I was so genuinely confused as I was being led into yet another room that I asked "Um, am I going to get to see a doctor today?" I think taking the time to introduce yourself to a patient, explain what's going on, what the process is, and when they will be seen is vital to a good medical experience. There was also a lack of communication between the staff members -- I was probably asked if I was there for new contacts four different times. I was not there for new contacts, just a routine eye exam. But everyone was very nice and well-meaning and it wasn't a bad experience, just not a very organized experience. I had a lot of trouble with the equipment because I'm very busty, and in order to use most of their instruments I had to mash my breasts against the machines. I'm kind of bewildered that this is not a more common problem and that they don't have machines to accommodate large chested women. I mean, it's an EYE exam, not an entire upper torso exam. Finally, the experience of being shuffled out of the doctor's office straight to the eyeglass sales floor without even asking if I was interested in buying glasses was pretty ham-handed. I will be looking for another optometrist, with a smaller, more personalized feel. But Linden might suit your needs if you want a place that can get you a quick appointment and has a huge selection of frames. read more

I've had it with this place. I just got my third and final pair of glasses from here. My wife made fun of me for giving them so many chances. The last time I went it took over three hours to get through the exam and picking out glasses. I waited 90 minutes past my appointment time. The only redeeming value was the older gentleman who helped me pick sunglasses that worked better with my prescription. Then, when I went to pick them up, they were lost and had to be re-ordered. This was the same thing that happened with my previous pair! This time I decided to go the safe route and get the first appointment on a weekday hoping I'd get in before they got backed up. I went to check in for my appointment right at 9:00 and was told by a custodian that the clerk hadn't clocked in yet. I got checked in a few minutes later and went to the exam area. I waited almost 40 minutes! I was the only patient there for the first 5 minutes! WTF?!? Doctors were just checking in at 9:15. I heard two of them talk for over five minutes about what one of them wanted to serve at a dinner party - it turns out one of these two was my doctor. No wonder I had to wait. After the exam I waited another 20 minutes to be helped with my glasses. There was one very nice older Asian man who was busting his a$$ to help people while the rest sat around. One of the optometrists was even talking crap about a customer who called to complain - she was standing a few feet from me! A previous reviewer was scolding people for giving Linden a bad review because it might hurt their business. Are you for real?!? I hope this review hurts their business or at least makes them start changing how they operate. As I said - I'm done with this travesty of a business. read more

My family and I have been going to Linden for about 17 years. Even when we move out of state to Las Vegas, 10 years ago, we kept coming back. We used to have a great experience, but within the last 3 years or so, it's been getting worse by the year. The wait times have gotten ridiculous. 3-4 hours long. The staff doesn't have any customer service skills and are not knowledgeable of their own products. Today my wife went to their office for her 3pm appointment. She went there to get her vision checked, adjust a pair of glasses she had gotten from there, and pick out a years worth of contacts. An hour and a half later, she got her glasses adjusted, but was still waiting to be seen. She was told "you're next, you're next", two patients get called, she's still waiting. While she is waiting, one of the optometrist comes out calling someone else's name, and she starts coughing into her hands! My wife asked her to please cough into her elbow or somewhere else, she deals with the public, she just said sorry and rolled her eyes. When she went to the contacts section, she was rushed once again, and was told they had limited stock and they didn't have any of the colored contacts to try first. She ultimately left with a years worth of contacts without trying them on to see what they looked like. Suffice to say, we won't be returning to Linden Optometry. Sad to say because we enjoyed their services and quality of products. Even when they said they discontinued making the glasses there, which is what I would get, we continued to use them every year, but it's gotten too bad. read more

I have an expert ophthalmologist in NYC (he's on faculty at New York Eye & Ear) who did my Lasik in 2000, and he is still my preferred provider. Alas, I am not in New York City at the moment, so, at a friend's recommendation, I went to Linden for a simple eye exam. Even with an appointment, I waited over an hour from sign-in to actually sitting down in a doctor's office. Not a great way to start a business relationship. The optometrist was polite and professional--no complaints there. As it turned out, my Rx has only changed a tiny bit, so I was ready to wrap it up--but then came The Hard Sell, and how I really need new glasses because ...blahblahblah. At those prices? For reading glasses?!? No thank you--just a copy of my prescription. Suddenly, the sales woman didn't know if she could do that. WHAT?!? Of course you can. Take the doctor's notation card to the photocopier and press "copy". Whoever said "overpriced and the customer service sucks so hard" is spot on. My first trip to Linden is also my last. And customers who need Rx glasses and can't just walk into Walgreens or Costco and buy a pair of readers off the rack have my sympathies. read more

I wish I looked at Yelp before I came here. I came here six months ago for a full exam, contact fitting and glasses. The doctor told me my prescription was -4.75 in both eyes and which is a radical jump from my previous prescription. I was like... this is odd because my glasses still feel pretty good on. He also told me that my prescription was so high I was unable to ever have my eyes corrected. How horrifying. Since my insurance was ending, I wanted to get some more contacts. I went to my friend's aunt place and when they checked my eyes and said my prescription was horribly wrong. My prescription was actually the same as before -3.5. And of course I still can get my eyes corrected. My eyes have been so sore and had headaches this whole time, I just figured it was from all my time at the computer. The overall service was nice, other then it is totally chaotic there. There are so many people working, that you actually have to pull a number. Now I have to throw out boxes of contacts and get the lenses on the recently purchased frames switched out. Not worth the visit! read more

This has been the worse experience EVER. Let me start off by saying I've been coming to Linden for 30+ years and I'm only 40. My grandmother has been a patien since the real Mr. Linden was alive. For me Linden was the place to go for glasses. Now not so much. I went in for eye exam on Jan 10th, keeping frames just getting lenses so it should be easy right? NOPE. Fast forward to Feb 20th and glasses prescription still wrong. I've had 4 eye exams and glasses still not great. Each of the 3 times I went to pick up the prescription was either off and lenses blurry OR the transitions I paid for were not placed on glasses. Yes serious I will be back at Linden in the morning for the 11th time to take them back again. After over a month of back and forth I'm having them put my old lenses back in and I'll go somewhere else. Also they wanted $485 for just lenses. FOR JUST LENSES!!!!! I ended up paying $203 after insurance which was still high for lenses only. Very disappointed in Linden. It's now over 2 months after my initial appointment and the glasses still have to be returned. I even had to see my Ophthalmologist due to eye strain from to many wrong prescriptions. I was told they would try too compensate me for their mistakes but was told the owner wanted me to remove or edit this Yelp review first. When I said no, I was told to think about it. No need the answer is still NO. I'm not sure who they think I am but blackmail and bribery don't quite work for me. It should not have even been asked but definitely should have come from a manger and not an Optician Especially when it's your error. The owner did credit $50 to my account which I guess was nice but have no idea what I would even do with $50. Maybe buy some eye glass cleaner or something. I won't take my initial review down but I will acknowledge those who helped and those who tried to help me with this entire fiasco. Jermaine was very helpful and the reason I stuck around even with all the mistakes. That is until I believe he got tired of the entire situation because he stopped helping. Same with the "manager" Luz. Georgina and Mercedes have also tried to help and are very nice. I'll be back this week for the 17th time for my refund and for them to reverse claim back to insurance company so I can go somewhere else. We'll see how that does. My dogs chewed my glasses and I went to get my prescription in order to replace them. Because it was over a year they wouldn't give it to me because my prescription expired. Like milk? It's no longer good? I told them I didn't care and wanted my prescription. They said they couldn't give it to me because they would be liable if something happened to me and I needed to make an appointment. I've recently noticed that my eyesight has been going to hell, so, I thought, maybe I had to get glasses. Naturally, Lindens was the first choice. I walked in and was able to get into my checkup in a reasonable amount of time (not greased lightning, but a *very* acceptable waiting period, considering I *wasn't* the only person in the whole building). "It's a boy!" the doctor says. Just kidding, it was really, "You're nearsighted!" Lovely. Well here came the best part: frame selection. Like what I said in my previous review, the selection is HUMONGO! I found the cutest frames from Juicy Couture that I just love love love! So they ordered them for me (so I wouldn't have to use the in-store ones that were tried on and off) and I couldn't wait. However, two weeks passed and I was getting a little impatient. I COULDN'T SEE THE BOARD AT SCHOOL, BRO! I had to resort sitting in the front of the class while all my friends messed around in the back. Bummer. I finally asked one of the employees why my glasses were taking so long! She simply said that it had to come from the factory or warehouse of JC, and it wasn't their fault it was taking so long. Simply said: what goes down at Juicy Couture isn't under Lindens' control (couldn't be more true). Of course I was still disappointed cause I couldn't see, but that was a solid answer that I couldn't argue with. THEN, the day came. I got my frames! I had them adjusted right after I got them (no problem) and they are still perfect. I received a bunch of compliments, and snickered at my classmate who also got new glasses...but lookin' at those frames, she did NOT get them at Lindens'. ;) read more

Epic fail! Best two words to describe my current experience! Needed some new glasses asap so I went here since they my most recent eye chart etc. Picked the frame and paid for them. Got a notice in the mail that they were ready three days later, wonderful! Go pick them up and put them on, they ARENT MY PRESCRIPTION! Not joking they used someone else's chart on my glasses. Over a week later now and they aren't ready! Second time I have horrible experience here, go somewhere else is my suggestion. read more

I must admit I can be harsh...but for a place to get a ONE...it SUCKS...I will NEVER be back. this review is for my mom's experience, but I was there with her every time she had to come...and that was over 4-5 times I believe my mom was recommended to this place by her coworker...she told my mom that Dr. Limfat was amazing....he was nice...he definitely wasn't the problem...after the eye exam, we were told to go pick out frames this lady helped us (or tried to at least), but she was SO rude....it was written on her face that she didn't want to be there....kind of threw the frames at us...it was just not a good experience my mom was getting the progressive glasses...so we picked a frame...we asked for coating and making the lenses as thin as possible (high index)...when the rude lady calculated everything with insurance, it was a ridiculous high price....my mom and I wore glasses our whole lives and never had it come out to such an expensive price...it was like 300+ dollars or something....I forget the exact amount scheduled to pick up everything the next week I believe....later my mom complained about the service and the manager called and apologized and we got a 10% discount. came to pick it up...but they didn't put in the coating and didn't make the lenses thin at all....we were like we paid for this how come you didn't do this right... had to wait another couple of days....this time they put in the coating but didn't make the lenses thin....we were like WTH?!?!....so they apologized and they said they would do it...had to wait again... finally go and pick it up...and they tell us with progressives they can't make it any thinner unless they use the polycarbonate lenses...thanks for informing us beforehand??? okay, then please get it done right this time...so we go home....and they call us telling us that the frames we chose are too small for the polycarbonate lenses...are you EFFING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW?!?!!? by this time, we were fed up and we were thinking about just getting a refund, but we already went through so much trouble to make that go to waste...so we had to go back...and choose frames that would work with the polycarbonate lenses...and so after the millionth time of going back and forth...they finally got their shit together and my mom got her damn glasses....and it wasn't even that thin... I HATE THIS PLACE!!!!! my mom and I have always gone to korean places and they get their stuff done right...I've never gone back more than once to get my glasses...we koreans are too impatient to wait and go back that many times...if it weren't for my mom's coworker's recommendation we would never have come here NEVER AGAIN...you can pay me, but I still wouldn't come. The only reason I keep coming here is because they're open late and 7 days per week. However, each year I return, I regret not having searched for an another place instead! My god, the wait time is horrendous - not to mention the dehumanizing assembly-line approach. Oh, let me tell you a tale of the long odyssey at Linden's: You first check in at the front desk and are told to sit in a crowded waiting area. You wait a few minutes and are then called in by someone who takes you around to the back area, also crowded, where you're told to sit and wait yet again. After several minutes, someone calls your name and takes you to that dark, little room where they make you stare into an apparatus from which you see a tractor on a farm before getting that annoying puff of air shot in your eyeballs. Then they take you to another crowded seating area where you sit and wait yet again. This could take up to an hour sometimes. (I've been coming here for years.) THEN you finally get to see the doctor! Fortunately all the doctors I've seen there have been nice, but it sucks you never get to see the same one the next time. Once they do the examination, they give you a new pair of contact lenses to try. HOWEVER, you gotta go out to yet another area. Here you sit among many other patients at a long counter (like at a diner). In front of each person is a mirror and kleenex. After a few seconds to minutes (depending on how busy it is) someone comes out with a fresh, new pair of contact lenses for you to put in. Once you confirm it feels fine, you gotta wait yet again to see the doctor. You go back to the doctor's examination room where he/she verifies the lenses are the right strength and fit. By then you just want to go home, and you are relieved to be told you may...BUT first you must return to the front desk where you checked in at the beginning of this assembly line. And there you must wait in line to make an appointment for a follow-up a few days later. This is to ensure the contacts are fine. So a week later you return and go through the assembly line once again. Fortunately, this time it's a little bit shorter, but it's still a pain. Once it's confirmed your contacts fit fine, you then must wait in another area where somebody goes fulfill your order for a 1-year supply of disposable lenses. Yes, I wear disposables. Then you take your boxes of contact lenses to the front reception desk (yes, that place again) where you stand in line for a few minutes more in order to pay. By then you're really tired and just want and need a drink. But since you're driving, you decide instead to pick up a bottle at the nearest liquor store and go home where you'll be able to drink without having to worry about driving after! The End read more

I came here 15 years ago when I started wearing contacts and was satisfied, I moved away, started wearing glasses again, needed progressives and went to Lens Crafters. I'm back in the area and my VSP works here so I came for my yearly checkup and of course it turns out LC had me in the wrong scrip! So now I have the right scrip, I can see better and I found nice frames that my insurance covered 100%. Sure it gets busy, yea you have to take a number, but you expect it and you just deal with it and chill. read more

Honestly, I don't have a bad thing to say about this place!! My opinion of them keeps getting better the more times I use Linden. I just got off the phone with the most helpful girl Jennifer! She was able to help me with all the questions I had and even gave me some of the good deals going on!! I appreciate it so much!! My family has been coming here for years for glasses. And I have to say that glasses are kind of their thing. :) They carry all the major brands (lafont, coach, gucci, chanel, marc jacobs, calvin klien, rayban, maui jim, etc, etc, etc) and the sales floor staff are great at suggestions and assistance. All the optometrists I've seen have been really professional, competent and nice, and the rest of the staff (receptionists, dr. assistants, etc.) are very nice too. Tips: - Only come here for glasses/exam, their contacts process is annoying and expensive (as other reviewers have covered, in detail) - Before selecting frames flag down a sales floor representative to explain how much your insurance gives you for frames and what the pricing codes on the frames mean (when I went in last week it was P=100+, A=200+, U=$300+, L=400+) - Don't go during peak hours. I recommend early AM (they open at 8) or very early on a weekend day. My husband and I dropped in early Saturday and waited 15 minutes to be seen. ( I am really annoyed by all the reviewers who complain about waiting 30 minutes when they went in at 12 on Saturday, or 6 on a weekday. This is a Dr. office, and they have wait times and peak hours like any other Dr. We should be grateful they are open during these times at all!) The bottom line is I come here for the selection of frames, which are fantastic. As an added bonus the wait times/service/optometrist quality are all a-ok in my book. read more

I don't know who that Jane person is, who wrote that nice review, but it's pure BS. I just came back from Linden Optometry to ask about some new glasses and they knew nothing. It was the worst experience at an optometry store ever. It was like going to a crowded ER at a shitty hospital, but without all the blood. There were babies crying though. I was waiting a the reception desk (that's at the back of the store) and there were two women dressed as nurses looking at each other and not doing anything. It took them about two-three minutes for them to notice the line that had formed in front of them. When it was my turn to be helped, I asked them about my glasses and they immediately called this vicious Asian lady that, instead of telling me to go elsewhere to get "my special glasses that require special tools," she kept telling me the lenses were already scratched and they couldn't take it in. It was just freaking stupid. I hope that, if you go there, you have a better experience than me, or a really freaking deal on glasses, because it's not worth it. read more

TIME TO FIND A NEW PLACE. I've gone here three years in a row for my yearly exam. Today I went for my yearly exam, the Dr. was great all the staff who assisted me before the person who assisted me with selecting a frame were all great. Once this person assisted me she explained to me that I was not covered for frames until next year (not a problem) so she proceeded to take my old frames that I purchased from them last year, and she wanted me to sign this waiver for the frames I was leaving. Had I not read this waiver it basically stated they could damage my frames and I could not do anything about it. It was not their responsibility. So I asked her so my frames could come back cracked or loose or even broken and they would not be responsible. She answered, THAT'S RIGHT!!. At this point I was very angry due to her answer so I told her all I needed was my prescription for my new lens and I will not be returning and she answered OK and she rolled her eyes which infuriated me even more.
