Both dishes are decent but if you are reminiscing authentic Peruvian fare then the rest of the menu is pretty mediocre. A colleague brought us here for a lunch outing after he had it and loved it. We all ordered something different and got the ceviche and anticuchos de corazon toast start with. The ceviche was delicious! Highly recommend it. My colleagues also loved the anticuchos. For my entree, I got the arroz con pollo after having seen my coworker eat his leftovers of it at work before. It's aroma filled up our office. Once my entree came out, I was a bit disappointed. He had described it as a half roast chicken (thus chicken on the bone), but I got chicken breast. I didn't even bother asking about this because you'll see other reviews on here where they did the same thing and didn't inform their customer they were out of the bone chicken. We started with the empanada appetizers, my wife enjoyed the chicken while the beef was my favorite. My wife's main was a chicken dish and I had a seafood platter. I was on a business trip with my co-worker and I was wanting to try this place during my stay in TX. We ordered choritos a la chalaca, ceviche de mixto, lomo saltado, and an octopus dish (sorry I forgot the name). The food was so delicious and unforgettable. We really enjoyed the mussels appetizer as it had amazing flavor. The ceviche was refreshing and we could have ate all the appetizers but we had to save room for our main dishes. Lomo was amazing as always and their aji was delicious as well. My coworker enjoyed her octopus very much. We even had dessert which was a perfect way to top off our dinner. The manager, James, was amazing, he explained all the dishes even with a little history. Gave great recommendations knowing this was our first time eating here. I must say that my friends and I were really excited to be visiting a Peruvian spot, but we were disappointed. Service was slow with very few customers and the energy was very low. After seating at our table, we asked about their special dishes for the day. The waitress pointed to the other side of the room at a small board and said "we can go look at it", after she realized that it was inappropriate then stated she would go check for us. It's never good when the waitress does not know what's on the menu. Additionally, the appeal was more upscale but the service was not up to part. We asked for sodas and was brought to us in a can. We had to request for glass cups to be brought to us. We stuck to only appetizers since the service was not great from the beginning. The presentation of the dishes were very nicely prepared. However, we were not impressed with the authenticity of the dishes. The "Causa" had an extreme amount of mayonnaise in the chicken and the potatoes were too moist. The ceviche was not so well on flavor, as the amount of lime overpowered all the other flavors including the salt. After a 45 minute drive to restaurant, I must say we were extremely disappointed and left hungry. read more

The number one rule of business is, "When someone tries to give you money, you take it." Obviously, Lima Taverna has never heard of this. I came in on 1/7/24 at 3:15 and sat there for 14 minutes before I just got up and left. No water, nothing. There were only 3 tables occupied. I went there intrigued that their ceviche mixto was $23. At that price, it must be good, right? And their lomo saltado is $33, which is about twice the price anywhere else. Must have gold flecks in it. But I will never find out. read more

Found this place with the Yelp app while searching for Peruvian, and wow, what a find it was. Located in a fairly non-descript strip center next to Collin Creek Mall, it's unassuming from the outside, but well appointed and inviting inside. A quick scan of the clientele revealed that I was probably the only gringo in the place; this is usually a good sign. We had previewed the menu in the app, and knew that we'd find some authentic Peruvian fare here. Here's what we selected: Fried yucca - Nicely cut strips, crispy, delicious, and a wonderful golden brown, the texture was perfect inside and out, with no stringiness. Accompanying hot sauce packed a bit of a punch Leche de tigre - Quite possibly the best example of a calamari dish I've ever tasted, it featured a very tart lime juice and cilantro base, with big chunks of whitefish, tangy onions, Peruvian corn, and a slice of sweet potato. The fish was very good, texture was perfect, and the marinade was stunningly good. Lomo saltado - Kind of a stir fry of beef tenderloin strips, a nice sauce, potatoes (in the form of French fries, more or less), and some tomato and red onion pieces, this dish had a simple, great flavor that really worked good together. The beef pieces were tender, seasoned well, and tasted great. Pescado a lo macho - Featuring an Atlantic salmon filet, shrimp, calamari, scallops, and clams sautéed in a delicious seafood sauce, this dish had a little of everything. If there was a knock at all, the sauce was a little on the salty side, but it tasted good. The seafood was all tender and tasty, and although I'd prefer a little pink in the salmon, it was still very moist and not overcooked at all. Picarones - A traditional Peruvian dessert featuring small donuts with a syrup, these had a very pleasing texture and the syrup was delicious, but there was a bit of a bitter taste that I couldn't quite figure out, perhaps from the anise? Either way, it was a very small ding on an otherwise great meal. This restaurant impressed mightily. We'll definitely return for more Peruvian goodness. read more

This restaurant has so much potential, but falls short on many fronts. The service is good and in this industry, that goes a long way. The food is authentic, however, you won't experience the best of what Peruvian cuisine has to offer. Recipes need some tweaking. Plating is corny, not creative or inspiring. The decor of the restaurant is borderline, tacky and in dire need of freshening up. It just seems like everything was thrown together, without any real thought or design going into it. My husband is Peruvian and we're always looking for a good Peruvian restaurant. A month ago we met with my husband's best friend (Peruvian) and his wife hoping for a great food experience. Maybe it was a bad night and the cook was on vacation because what we had was not Peruvian flavored AT ALL! I ordered Aji de Gallina to be a safe bet because it's a very popular dish. What I got was shredded chicken with zero spices or other ingredients needed for Aji de Gallina. My husband was very disappointed in his dish as well. Wow there are no words but HEAVEN in your mouth. I've NEVER been to a Peruvian restaurant before. And ALL dishes, coming from appetizers, main entrees, drinks and desserts were PERFECTION. My favorite was the leche de tigere. the owner not only served us the dishes but gave us the history behind the dish, how it was made and why it became a staple dish. Great atmosphere. Love it!
