This is a great HK style restaurant that serves many of the classic cafe Cha Chan Tang favorites. I only ordered takeout but they have a convenient website that not only shows what is on the menu, but also a description of the item as well since not everyone is familar with all the dishes. It did take about 25 minutes from when I placed the order for the food to be ready for pick up but they seemed pretty busy from the number of take out orders. I got the double triple hungry beast feast which I thought I could easily finish so to double down on my mis-calculation I also ordered the snack combo. I ended up eating about half of the snack combo and a third of the hungry beast feast. The feast comes in a giant container with 5 different menu items that are each delicious on their own but it is great to have options. The feast can easily feed two people and is really worth it. It is rich in body and smooth in texture. However, the aroma of the tea was slight covered by the milk choice. Typically, HK milk tea usually comes with evaporated milks or condensed milk by request. Using regular milk will covered the aroma of the tea and pushed the texture to a smoother but lost its taste of the traditional HK Milk Tea favor. This is still good for a regular craving though. I also tried this French Toast with Cream of Mushroom. The French Toast in HK should be paired with Syrup and butter with jam/peanut butter within the toast. This one at Like Cafe was fusion with Cream of Mushroom and cheese inside the toast. It made this devilish afternoon tea item a savory meal itself. It's amazing. I cannot stop saying "CS" (Crazy in Cantonese) after trying the first bite. I recommend to try it with Iced Tea with lemon if you are a small eater. There are a lot of Hong Kong style tea houses in the area nowadays, including one that is on the same street as this place. But after trying the others, we always come back here for authentic Hong Kong "street food". The prices are very reasonable and the food is always tasty. I also love that they serve Hong Kong style breakfast all day, whereas other Hong Kong style tea houses will only serve breakfast during certain hours. I also think they make the best hot milk tea which reminds me of the ones I had in Hong Kong. I had the shark fin soup, red bean ice and split the jumbo triple baked rice with my family. The fake shark fin in the soup could have been more tender. The ingredients reminded me more of sweet and sour soup but the taste was good. Red bean ice hit the spot, it was everything I was looking for. Some beans were mushy and some kept their shape. Texturally it was on point. The triple baked rice had chicken curry, seafood rice and tomato based pork rice. All was creamy and delish. A little much and had to take over half of it to go. My friends ordered the tomato baked pork chop rice, the beef ramen combo, and the beef chow fun noodles. The Taiwanese pork chop was not really Taiwanese pork chop, it was more like Japanese pork katsu with ground pork, pickled mustard greens, and white rice. I was really craving the Taiwanese style pan fried pork chop though. The pork was still was a bit undercooked inside so I didn't eat some of it. Cheong fun: a bit too sticky for my taste. Salted Egg yolk prawn fried rice. The shrimp was delicious with a strong yolk flavored breading. The fried rice though was too plain and bland. Nothing in the rice but salted egg yolk. Could have used some peas, onions and stuff like a regular fried rice has. It does come with a few stalks of broccoli on the side. Portions are large and prices are reasonable. They have breakfast combo for only $7.25. Includes 2 food items plus a milk tea. You can order it up until 4pm. I've been to Like Cafe for many, many years now. My family has a few staples we typically order from here: Hainanese Chicken and Baked Portuguese Chicken Rice being the two most ordered. The most recent times I've been back to order these dishes, there is a noticeably big difference from what we've eaten throughout the years. The Hainanese Chicken is usually very succulent, yellow, and tastes of sweet chicken flavor. Most recently, we ordered a full Hainanese Chicken around Lunar New Year and it was disappointing, to say the least. From the moment I opened the takeout box, I could already see how dry and dark yellow the chicken skin was as if it had been sitting out for some time. The flavor of the chicken is also not the same - it is saltier and lacks the natural sweetness of the chicken. The meat was dry and sadly, an overall waste of money. For the Portuguese Rice, the base is typically an egg fried rice under a layer of chicken & Portuguese sauce. This time, however, the egg fried rice was bright yellow, as if the Portuguese sauce was infused into the fried rice. This is not how I'm used to having this dish! The scrambled egg in the fried rice was in larger chunks than usual. The whole dish also lacked flavor which my whole family agreed on. I'm really hoping maybe the chef went on vacation during the holidays and they found a temporary sub in the meantime. But for now, I won't be back for a while just to wait out that possibility. read more

I went today for lunch with 2 friends. Our 12:00p arrival made us fear a long wait given eyeing the lines outside during so many pickups of phone orders here. Their ordering pickup is always heavily trafficked as one can view the orders for pickup on the large racks which combined with the steady queue floating around the doorway and sidewalk suggest a long wait. In the end, a 15m wait wasn't too bad, though C19 unsafe given crowding at the doorway which is to be expected. At the table however are C19 safe conditions with air barriers between all tables and full masking by all staff (and patrons, too, thankfully) which is leagues ahead of most restaurants now-a-days which have no such thoughtfulness. Now to the food, oh maaannnn the photos do the telling. I got the thousand egg fried prawns over fried rice which sounds like an expected taste but it is so so good as its freshness, fine frying execution, wisely paired rice, and overall quality are Like Cafe trademarks. I've ordered here regularly over a year plus and always no matter the constantly evolving, changing, bold, exciting menu which spans dishes of a huge wide pan-Asian variety, they execute so so well. From curries to fried to dente noodles to so many speciality dishes, they just always execute spot on and over and over suggesting high skill in the back of house who never gets enough thanks so I hope this word reaches them. Back to the food: my friend had the white curry over rice which with its bold choices of raisins in the white curry (more akin to gravy) and my other friend's HK street food sampler's wide tour of so many beloved foods afar makes for such a thrilling, fun, happy experience dining in. Service is very good though primarily Mandarin Chinese from our server which works for us, but there is audible English support in other staffers and all are highly responsive and professional. The speedy rate of work is clearly tuned from their year plus since opening. A constant fan base which orders at high volumes makes for confidence you're in for a good time. While HK style cafes are highly competitive with very stiff reviews because there are many sub-styles within them, I highly recommend Like Cafe for so so many wonderful dishes, dining in and out both. read more

I came here because I saw Rich W. photos of this place and thought I must give it a try. Definitely not disappointed. If fact, I now feel like I was introduce to a nice hidden gem in Bensonhurst. My friend also live close by so we came here for an early dinner. Their seats are section off with curtains so that's pretty cool and their seats are comfortable. Service is also fast so if you're a slow eater, you might want to not order all in one shot, because the food will come out fast and furious. We ordered their three dishes total. For starter, we had their fishball, rolled noodles and stuff veggie dish (street food style) and that was so goood!! Their fishball was tender, their stuff fish paste for the veggie was on point and their rolled noodles was nice and chewy and the peanut and hoisen sauce was the added bonus. We also enjoyed their HK dry noodle and their okra with shrimp. Everything was prepared and seasoned perfectly. I was utterly impressed with this hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I love this place so much that I'm actually planning to take my folks here so they too can enjoy some Honk Kong style cafe cuisine. Definitely do not underestimate this place and give it a try. It's not HK style cafe or Cha-Chan Tang food anymore... they still have the breakfast sets, which is a fan favorite but all other popular items are gone (Taco rice, Katsu with green curry, silky egg with roast pork.., the dumplings, etc..) About 90% of their menu is some Malaysian fusion and not very good at it. Some are sadly mediocre at best.. like many if their noodle soup dishes. Even our favorite Churn-Fun are not as they used to be... One huge set back: their SERVICE is horrible and down right "mean"... I can understand the HK attitude when you're actually from HK but these "new" workers are not HK'er.. they sound over-worked and stressed out. We used to come to Like Cafe every Sunday, sometimes weekdays for dinner... that was back then, when it catered to HK style food. I remembered the ladies being friendly and would joke with my kids and friends whenever I bring new visitors to try the food. Now, I would not recommend to any of my friends... just heart broken. This review is for their delivery. Frankly it's a shady practice that you don't include a note about $$varying delivery fees on the menu. Every other place I've ordered delivery from doesn't include extra fees. I was so surprised when I heard on the phone that the delivery fee is $4...and I live 12mins away by car/biking. Like what? Plus you have to tip on top of the fee. They didn't even mention the delivery fee until AFTER I named all the stuff I'd like. Guess I was in too deep at that point, so I "romaine" calm & hope for the best. The food arrived about 40mins later. No complaints on the Baked Pork Chop in Tomato Sauce over Rice, classic & good. The Baked Portuguese Chicken, however, just chunks of cream, not a single hint of coconut flavor in the sauce. The chicken taste great though. This place is owned by the same people from Longevousjoy in the area, so same quality of foods & service, aka 3-stars at most. Been wanting to eat here for YEARS and finally got to do it on Saturday for brunch. I'd been to Jin Jin (another HK cafe) across the street a couple of times because there was never a wait over there, unlike here... I think that goes to show which one's better! We waited ~20 min which was expected and WORTH IT. The food, menu and atmosphere here is definitely way more authentic / street-food style in comparison to Jin Jin. We ordered sooo much food (dine in AND takeout) and I feel like I still haven't even scratched the surface with some of their other offerings. If I lived closer, this would be one of my go-to spots. My friends/followers on Yelp will know that I live & breathe cheong fun (steamed rice rolls with the deeeelicious peanut/hoisin sauce). Well. Like Cafe probably does it best in NYC. If not the best, top 3 EASY. The noodles are just so fresh, chewy, light & airy. The curry fishballs are also perfect. The presentation of the dish resembles HK to a T, with the skewer sticks and everything. If I were to come for only one thing, it'd be this dish. (With the iced HK milk tea which is also perfect) At the restaurant, I also tried the beef tripe, HK style pan fried noodles, baked tomato porkchop rice, beef chow fun w/ egg sauce - the classics and done so well here. The beef chow fun w/egg sauce was new for us and a pretty interesting take on wet chow fun. Then we ordered a bunch of stuff to take home with us - a couple more orders of the cheong fun, truffle spaghetti (yum), baked portuguese coconut cream chicken rice (yum) , baked corn cream fish rice (yum), and the boneless hainan chicken (yum). All sooo good. Be warned of the baked rice dishes though - they come in the tin containers w/ thin plastic covers and since they are scorching hot, the plastic may melt into the food on top. They have such an extensive menu including a good amount of Malay/Singaporean street foods that I'm super eager to try. Then there's the soup noodles and pineapple buns - some more classics that I've yet to try as well. I'm always down for some classic, comfort Hong Kong style food, and this place delivers on that. Came around 11AM on a Saturday with only a few tables occupied, but by the time we left, close to 1PM, there were plenty of people waiting. The storefront isn't fancy, and we walked past by it without even realizing we had reached our destination, so pretty surprised by the crowd. Love the indoor dining set up! Once you walk in, you're presented with a hallway and on each side, are different colored curtained dining spaces. You can pull the curtains close for privacy, which we didn't really see people using but our waitress actually helped pull it for us. So despite the typical lively background noise, it was a relatively nice atmosphere to enjoy a lunch date with friend. Hong Kong Street Food Combo: not on the menu they put on the tables, but it's plastered on the wall, so look there. This comes with the rice noodles with the sauces, 4 curry fishballs, a skewer of 4 pieces of tender tripe, and 3 pieces of stuffed peppers/eggplant. The tripe was the highlight here, while the fish paste from the stuffed vegs were plain and not deep fried enough for my liking. Salted Prawn Fried Rice: ughhh soooo good. Highly recommend this if you're a salted egg fan! You can taste it in the fried rice as well as the prawns, as you should. But I've been to places where they say salted egg fried this and that, but actually, only the protein has the flavor while the rest of the carbs is cooked regularly. THIS tho, is packed with that delicious salted egg yolk flavor. Shrimp aren't too big, but I love the crispy coating and inside was perfectly cooked, still juicy. 10/10 coming back for this alone Hong Kong Chow Mein/Crispy Noodles: there are two other dishes that contain protein (a pork and seafood one) but it looked too saucy that it would soften the crispy noodles, so didn't opt for those. Really delicious food, but wow the restaurant was COLD. I mean, cold enough that even wearing my winter jacket wasn't enough. Somehow it felt colder inside the restaurant than outside. On a spring or fall morning, Like Cafe would be great for brunch. Lots of classics and a great place to bring friends or family. Some of the employees don't speak anything but Cantonese which may make it harder to communicate, but otherwise everyone is friendly. They also deliver food to the wrong table often so make sure you know what your food looks like. Would like to mention that the food is a solid 4.5/5 though.
