I am usually nearby so when I'm not in the mood to walk down to the heart of 8th Avenue for more popular spots/options then I have ordered from Taste Good a few times. Each time in person or on the phone the older female manager/owner is harsh and gives attitude when taking a order. Worse when in person picking up my orders. One time I walked in and she is at the rear table sitting then she just looks at me so I say that I'm picking up a phone order. I see a bag on the rear table, the woman then says it's there and points. She does not make an effort to stand up nor hand over the bag to me so I went to pick up my lunch. She says $8 (a great value for a lunch) and I have the $8 in my hand but I purposely do not walk over to her with the money. I let her get up and take my money from my hand standing where I had to pick up my bag of lunch from the table. I turn around leaving and she does not say anything not even a thank you. Service and politeness does not exist at Taste Good. Now onto the food - it is authentic Toisan/Cantonese and has home style dishes. The food is usually fresh and well prepared from my lunch experiences - so the name does apply appropriately - it does Taste Good. This restaurant opened up a few weeks ago, so my housemates and I came here to try out their foods. Oh by the way, finding parking in this area was a nightmare, but if you are lucky you'll find one... eventually. The ambiance was really bright and clean. I really like their marble-like fixture ceiling they have, wished my dining room at home had that type of ceiling. The restaurant was not too big or not too small. The night we were there, there was a small banquet at one side of the restaurant. Maybe it was due to the not so big atmosphere, the sounds of talking, laughter, cling and clatter of chopsticks and plates made this place extremely noisy throughout my entire meal. It was hard for me to hear myself think. Fortunately, my group didn't need to text each other during our meal. We had ordered one of their specialty soups that came in this cute little cookware pot. The soup was pretty good, but I'm not sure what was in there. We've got a dish of veggies, which was pretty yummy. We also got a rack of lamb chops, which was really good! It was very tender and the meat falls right off the bones. We've also gotten walnut shrimp, one of my favorite Chinese dishes of all time. This dish was good, but mayo overload that it was insane! Each shrimp was crispy and the walnuts aren't as honey glazed as most restaurants makes them. So far the foods I've tried that night were pretty good and since it's kind of close by I would come back to try other dishes. Been here many times on many occasions. I suggest reserving a table on holidays as this place gets packed pretty quickly. First few times were great. Nothing wrong with the food; food was flavorful and fresh. It's just that I ate here way too many times and ordered the same dishes each time I'm here. They also serve sweets and oranges post dinner. Oranges were really sweet (big plus). For eight dishes including tips, the bill came out $273 for a party of six. Very reasonable priced. However, parking can get very inconvenient. And if you take the train, you will have to walk several blocks. Beware of food coma!! One more thing, the fish soup which I forgot to mention was not too bad. I am not the fish soup person although I like to eat fish, but it did not taste raw. In fact, pretty good. I would still prefer other soups we would normally get. Not sure what they were called. You can't go wrong with the food here for the most part. They've got both good and mediocre dishes here. I've been here several times for family events and I have gathered a list of dishes that my family would order on a regular basis. Here are a few: -Roasted quail: Always crispy and extremely tender. The meat retains a lot of the juices and has never been dry. I always prefer to squeeze a bit of lemon juice on top just to add some acidity to it. -Roasted chicken: Just like the quail, the chicken here is tender and moist. Not a piece of dry breast meat to be found. The skin is seasoned well and crisped nicely. I'm convinced that the cooks here are just good at preparing meat in general. -Macadamia nut squid stir fry with snow peas: The roasted macadamia nut flavor is integrated into the dish very well. The dish contains a good amount of "wok hay". For those of you who aren't Chinese, this is just a term we use to describe the semi-smoky flavor that develops when you stir-fry a dish in a searing hot wok. This is an important distinguishing factor between good and mediocre stir-fry. So there are definitely some good dishes here which is why my family came back on several other occasions. What they are lacking here is the service. I'm not sure what the waiters are doing but they didn't bother taking out empty dishes, nor did they give us new plates. We usually come here for birthdays and they never offered to cut cake for us, which I can deal with. But the fact that they didn't even bother clearing the table for the birthday cake just really threw me off. The waiters were nowhere to be found for a while so my dad ended up putting the dirty dishes elsewhere to make way for the cake. When a customer needs to do your job for you, you probably need to re-evaluate your work ethic. I would suggest a re-training for the staff. I am pretty sure the lousy service reflects in their tips at the end of each day as well. We would probably come more often if the service here wasn't as bad, but their food kind of makes up for it. This is certainly a good option to go to especially if you can't get a table at the bigger Chinese restaurants. Ocean Chinese Restaurant is a small restaurant, but they serve up the same good quality dishes as you get at the bigger Chinese restaurants. These are the usual dishes that my family enjoys getting are 1. The Golden Shrimp with walnuts in a fruity mayo sauce. The shrimp are cooked perfectly. Crispy, sweet, and absolutely delicious. 2. A whole chicken. You get a crispy or just steamed. The chicken are very moist. A lot of flavor and taste. 3. Crispy Pork Chops with Peking sauce. One of my personal favorites. Crispy with a lovely sweet and sour taste to it. I like to take the sauce and just drizzle it over my bowl of rice. My family tries other dishes when we come here. I must say the food are tasty here. You certainly will not go wrong here. The bill will be a lot cheaper than the ones at the bigger Chinese Restaurants. You save money and you get a delicious meal. read more

The food was mediocre. I will not dine here again. Family decided that they wanted to try out a different restaurant for dinner instead of going to one of the larger restaurants in the area. We should have just stuck with our usual dinner spot. Ocean restaurant has the strangest table arrangement. They tried to fit too many large circular tables in such a small space. We were sitting in the second table, next to the entrance(6-8ppl table). Adjacent to us was a 10-16ppl table. With everyone from that table, and ours sitting down, there was barely enough room for anyone to pass through to the inside of the restaurant. Many times my boyfriend had to shift his seat to let the waiter pass, and to get up for the many older patrons to exit. The dishes were expensive and tasted just okay. $50 for 2 sautéed lobsters is expensive as many places in sunset park and Chinatown will have it for less then $35. Many of our first choice dishes were unavailable. I understand if 1 or 2 were unavailable, but 4 dishes? The shrimp mayo walnut dish was okay. The walnuts were not as glazed as other restaurants and there was a thin layer of brown oil? on the dish. Crispy chicken was overcooked, too dry. The sauce on the sweet fried pork chops was very thin. Salty fish with diced chicken fried rice did not have enough flavor. There was barely any salty fish. This was such an easy dish to mess up. No fruit or sweet dessert soup, only egg drop gelatin dessert. And the waiter brought the egg drop gelatin dessert before we were even finished with the food! Just told us to take our time! In a typical Chinese dinner, the waiters will trade out your used plate for new clean ones, but that never happened here. read more

This place just opened in the neighborhood and it has been getting quite the buzz in the Chinese community. When we first arrived to the restaurant it was quite crowded. We had to wait for about 15-20 minutes for a small table. Once I got to the table, I didn't realize that I would be facing a wall. This is the first time for me to eat while looking at a wall. I was joking about this to my brother because it was quite funny. Also, the menu says "Me Nu" and the whole time I thought this place was called "Me Nu." I thought they were going after a French/Asian fusion theme or something with the name Me Nu. I enjoyed the food tremendously. I tried the lamb chops and they were deliciously tender and juicy. I also had the eggplant and I'm not a big fan of eggplant but it was spicy and good. I had the squab which I thought was good, but my family thought it was quite salty. I squeezed a lemon to bring out the flavor of the squab and it sure did. The food is really good and I think each dish shines on its own. I deducted a star because the place was so damn loud. I couldn't even hear my brother speak since the place was teeming with loud Chinese families. I came here to avoid the busy section of Asian Brooklyn. I wanted to grab something to eat for lunch and was shocked there was still a $4.95 menu around. In most parts of queens, prices have steadily jumped up. I got beef with chinese broccoli for lunch. I really thought chinese broccoli is the white broccoli which is also cauliflower but I got something green which is the legit veggie of chinese broccoli. The portion is big too. Usually fits in a lunch box they serve. The meat and veggie was in one plastic container and rice in the lunch box. I never get that much these days. The beef was cooked very well, not too salty or sweet and the right soft texture. The veggie was good too, kept you wanting to eat. Yes, they have great food: $38 soups, $50 twin lobsters, and $15/ per fried squab. BUT, They OVER CHARGE YOU! My bill was almost $460, but after a double calculation on my phone- i saw that they overcharged me by almost $15!!! When I showed it to the male supervisor, he did the calculations again & saw that I was right and he overcharged. It is fine that he crossed it out and re-wrote the correct amount. it is NOT fine that the supervisor DO NOT APOLOGIZE FOR THE MISTAKE! Be honest about the food charges and own up to the mistake!!! Overall- i think this is a 3.5 star type chinese restaurant. But what sets them to a 4 in my opinion is their baby pigeon. Believe me, there's not another place in Brooklyn that does it half as good as they can with this birdie. Their other dish that I'd recommend is salt/pepper soft shell crab & black beans sause with clams. They must have about 1.5lb to 2lbs of clams for $12! That only a slight mark up from market price. My family and I went to this restaurant for our early Chinese New Year's Eve dinner recently. Their selection of dishes is great, so much to choose from! They've got everything, from vegetarian to meat. There were 7 of us at dinner, and the total only came out to be $180. We had several seafood dishes, too. I was expecting the bill to be over $200. Not a bad deal at all! The service was quick. Dishes were all delicious and not too much MSG, which we can all appreciate. My parents are retirees and VERY picky eaters. When it comes to family get togethers, they love to hit up one of the large chinese restaurants in the area. This is one of them. All the dishes are delicious but i absolutely love the squab here. I know not many people like this dish, but it is a seasonal priced appetizer. This place has the best squabs! The format of the restaurant is a bit smaller than the bigger and fancier restaurants along 8th ave/fort hamilton, but this place is nice and cozy and on the smaller side. Great for big groups. the food is repulsive. we got steamed pork dumplings and they were grey inside, not to mention some of them arrived in pieces (covered by browning lettuce leaves). my boyfriend got braised brisket noodle soup. if by brisket they meant just straight fat and pieces of meat that resembled octopus tentacles, then this soup was a success. basically it tasted like five spice and salt. we also got some egg drop soup, which was entirely flavorless. this place is the dumps, for sure. read more
