I have came to this spot a few times prior and had no problem as service was standard and the food was well (Even wrote a good Yelp review prior). But this time after my partner and I wrote a tip down on the receipt and the server looked at it, She said it's required to tip a certain amount. We were confused as nowhere in the establishment it states to tip "X amount or more" nor it says on the receipt to do so. After some back and forth we reluctantly changed the tip to what she had stated. This is an illegal action and it is not a "rule" if not stated anywhere. This made us not want to come back again. After a year and numerous dining experiences at Duck Wong, officially updating my review to 5 stars! Duck Wong has become a staple in our Sunday lunch rotation. All noodle soups, rice dishes, specials, and appetizers are well priced with hefty portions - you really can't beat the prices in this area. I've tried quite a few things, but the wonton noodle soup remains my favorite. Wontons are gigantic, well seasoned, and delicious. Paired with their signature chili oil, and it's the ultimate comfort food. The wonton mein is always perfectly cooked, so the noodles retain that al dente springy, chewy texture. And it goes without saying, but their master broth across the noodle dishes is so simplistic but so good. I also really enjoy their spicy oil cuttlefish udon, yaki udon, and beef brisket noodles. All of the appetizers here that we've tried were tasty. Hot & sour soup here isn't like the typical takeout hot & sour soup, but it is well balanced and not goopy. Dumplings & wonton apps are both good (as expected), the cucumber side is refreshing (but beware of garlic breath), kakiage is super crispy and one of my faves, and the bitter melon is refreshing. Come here for the wonton noodles and prices have doubled in the last 3 years. There's cheaper spots in the area but my friend likes their pork liver watercress congee (which came out lukewarm) usually won't leave a review but decided to splurge and try out some of the assorted braised beef innards . Only ate one of each to try and got the rest to go because I over ordered. Waitress asked if I wanted her to pack or if I should (I had asked for a box to takeout & I said she can pack) I was then asked if I wanted the vegetables in the dish (made up 60-70% of the dish) and I said yes, I love vegetables. Went to the restroom and saw the leftover plate had over half the vegetables still on it so I checked the takeout box (only 75% full) considering how I requested the dish to be packed for takeout I want the whole order, not half. I attached the takeout picture and you can see there's only vegetables covering half of the bottom. Even if it didn't fit in one container I believe she should've portioned it into 2, but there is obviously enough room. The food here is good for the price, especially the set meals! The hot and sour soup that is complimentary to the meal is filled with lots of ingredients and is the perfect balance of hot and sour. The pickled radish/carrots and dumplings that came with the meal were also really good. For the main entree, I ordered the sweet and sour pork which came sooo fresh and still crispy when I first ate it. It comes with pieces of pineapple, which is how it's made in Hong Kong. The other dishes ordered at my table were all decent, but I wouldn't recommend the curry noodle soup. The soup is really watered down and the 'noodles' was more like spaghetti. They will chase you out if you give anything less than that. Finding parking in the area can be difficult, depending on what time you aim to dine at. You could possibly find parking in residential streets neighboring 86 St or try finding metered parking. My favorite meal there is their Jaja Beef Tendon set meal. For about $9, you get a lot of food. A whole pan full of jaja beef, tendons, rice, two gyozas, other vegetables, and also a bowl of soup. I've tried a variety of their dishes and all of them were very delicious. Everything here is pretty affordable or cheap, please consider this place when you're in the area. I personally got the wonton noodle soup, which is like the main thing on the menu. The dish comes with five juicy, plump wontons, some cabbage, noodles, and a piece of seaweed. I, personally, think the noodles are lacking in comparison to the wontons, but it's there to complete the dish. We also ordered curry fishballs, which were also good, but nothing to rave about.
