Good oyster happy hour but the other dishes are inconsistent and the service is lacking. We unfortunately will not come back for three big reasons. 1) We've been here twice and somehow, the non-oyster dishes we got tasted completely different both times. For example, the beef tartare we had was great the first time, but when we ordered it again recently, it was so loaded up with raw onions and horseradish that it tasted awful and ruined the whole dish. No idea how the food could differ so much but we left feeling like we only really enjoyed the raw oysters and nothing else. The rest was a waste of money. 2) Even aside from the 1-1 success and failure rate with our food, we received very rushed service both times we visited. Our waitress mistakenly heard our order both times and both times we ended up with a drink we didn't order (or the wrong drink). She also offered us extra toast for our app when we started to run low but failed to mention that there would be an extra charge for it, so we got a few extra surprises on the bill. 3) Finally, and most annoyingly, there is an extra charge to pay using your credit card. Your bill will have tiny text at the bottom but you are basically given an option to Venmo transfer the restaurant for your bill instead to avoid the credit card service fee...but in doing so we would also forego any insurance, protection, and security from a proper sales transaction through a banking card. We just loved the lighthouse! Everything we ordered was delicious! I can't even say what our favorite was. We had the ceviche, burgers, fries and cauliflower. Each dish was flavorful and delicious in its own way. We also ordered some of their speciality cocktails, which were also solid. The ceviche had big chunks of fish and avocado. The cauliflower was roasted to perfection, and the hand cut fries weren't greasy, but they had that satisfying texture when you bit into them. The burger, while simple, was also delicious. My suggestion, go to Lighthouse, and pick your favorite from the menu that day. You will most certainly enjoy! read more

I went to Lighthouse last night with three friends and was pretty pleased overall. We ordered a bunch of different things: ceviche, beef carpaccio, housemade sourdough, burrata, cured meats/cheese, oysters, the burger, and the chicken sandwich-- I know. A lot of food. The sourdough was great and I absolutely loved the carpaccio-- It is a generous portion and is sprinkled with sea salt. The burrata was fresh and interesting-- not like the store bought kind at all and comes with beautiful, bright heirloom tomatoes. What really brought me to lighthouse was the burger. However, the whole table agreed that we were a bigger fan of the chicken sandwich. The burger was good, but I guess didn't live up to all the hype, but the chicken (sandwich) was cooked perfectly and was delicious. I have been going to the lighthouse since it opened and I've experienced it improve immensely over the years. The bar is owned by a sister and a brother duo who have physically built aspects of the place and spirituality infused a vibrant pulse making it the social beacon it has set out to be. The food in the beginning had room for improvement and it has improved. They make the most delicious sourdough bread and you can purchase a loaf as long as they have them to spare which is a wonderful option especially when you live two blocks away. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. As times have gotten more challenging, portions have shrunk and prices have risen which is understandable, I'm happy to pay more to help a restaurant that has weathered the pandemic storm. One thing I do wish they would consider changing is charging extra for things that are typically offered as complimentary. If someone orders a dish that needs bread to eat it, don't make them order it separately. If a dish needs chips to eat it and not enough are provided, just provide a little bit more without charging them. I've never complained about this as a customer and I would never refuse to pay for extra charges. How ever, I recently brought a somewhat frugal friend here and he flipped out at the extra charge that was not disclosed which he didn't handle well despite having a valid point. We were credit the extra fee. My feeling is that for what the restaurant is charging for things, I really can't see them losing much by not nickel and diming as if it were an à la cart takeout place. I think it is better etiquette to provide typically customary items with dishes as customary. Perhaps this is the new normal, however I have yet to experience another place, at a similar price point, with equally delicious food follow suit. Super cozy and casual and perfect for a weeknight dinner, which we did just last week. The drinks were delicious and everything we tried on the menu was super tasty. Our favorites were the labneh, the homemade sour dough, the pickle plate and the whole Branzino. Took one star off for our service because it was a bit faulty at times with a few mixed up drink orders and condiments that were forgotten. I've passed by this restaurant multiple times and was super excited to finally come here. 5 of us came without a reservation on a Saturday night but luckily they had bar seating. A couple of us weren't super hungry so we shared the grilled brussel sprouts and spicy mussels. The brussels sprouts had a sweet potato smear and smoked almonds - this was probably one of the best brussel sprout dishes I've had. The sweet and salty went really well together. The spicy mussels in white wine coconut were also super flavorful and quite a large size. I wish they served bread with it though. Highly recommend making a reservation since it's always packed and the bar seating has a weird chair height to bar height ratio. Also, it does get a bit loud. I came here in a group of 4 for the happy hour. I do want to preface this by saying that they were nice in seating us without reservations on a Saturday and we enjoyed the food/drinks (at the time). I'm giving a 2 star review because of their oysters. 3/4 people in the group went for the happy hour $1 oyster deal and all 3 of us had the most horrific, violent food poisoning we've ever experienced. I don't know where they're sourcing their oysters, but it seems like this isn't an isolated issue because another reviewer mentioned it too. If you come here I would recommend sticking to the cooked food because 12 hours of the gnarliest GI symptoms known to man are not worth it for $1 oysters. read more

Having lived in the neighborhood for awhile, I figured it was finally time to try Lighthouse. Luckily my new roommates were down for Sunday brunch, so after looking at my restaurant to-do list I landed on Lighthouse. I made a reservation a few days in advance for a party of 6, and let me say that I'm so glad I did! The restaurant itself is a stylish but not over the top light-filled, open-air space with modern yet casual atmosphere. I noticed that walk ins were being seated at communal tables so I'm not sure if that happens when you come without a reservation, but we were seated right away at our own table before the party was complete. I was smart to make a reservation, because this place gets packed! Note: there is a $15 per person charge for no-shows, so definitely keep that in mind when booking. We started with a round of cocktails, and the Southside and the coffee cocktail were the favorites. We chose to share a bunch of entrees, opting for the challah, sashimi, fish bowl, duck in pita, chilaquiles and cheeseburger. Prices were reasonable (entrees between $15-$20, drinks $11-$13.) The girls agreed that the fish bowl and sashimi were the best, while the boys landed on the burger and duck in pita. I had been craving sashimi so this hit the spot perfectly, and the fish bowl was perfectly spicy and very seasoned (I will definitely come back just for this!) Everyone left satisfied, and a little tipsy. I would recommend this place for a group brunch, solo dining, a date or a family meal (if your family is cool with back-less chairs and communal tables.) Lighthouse doesn't own a functioning phone, which would have been okay if the food had blown me away but it did not. I made a reservation on Resy and realized shortly that I needed to push it back by 30 minutes. I tried to give the restaurant a call at least 10x on two different phones but it went straight to a voicemail that hadn't even been set up yet. I tried to send them an email but it bounced back because apparently their email address hasn't been set up either. Then I tried to modify via the Resy app but was told I would be fined $15 if I were late or tried to modify the reservation. I hustled and arrived to the restaurant on time and told the Hostess that their phone does not work to which she shrugged, laughed and said "yeah, our phone tends not to work." (How is this acceptable? Is Lighthouse forcing all their patrons to accept their undeserved pretentiousness?) She then proceeded to tell me that I would have to wait 15 minutes for my table. Normally, I wouldn't mind waiting - but if you are going to force your patrons to adhere to such rigid timing, then you had better do the same as well. This all could have been forgotten if I were met with bomb food - but it was mediocre, at best. We ordered the Burrata (which was actually really good), the Farro salad (this was decent as well), the Squid (this was mediocre), the Skirt Steak and the Sasso chicken. The Skirt Steak is absolutely nothing to get excited about - it was way too chewy and we honestly contemplated sending it back. It also came with a side of Dandelion Greens - who on earth craves dandelion greens? Not to mention, I asked for the chili on the side (my bf was having stomach issues and couldn't stomach spice, but I still wanted the chili) and the waitress said she would be able to accommodate - it ended up coming with no chili on the side at all. The Sasso Chicken was overcooked and dry, albeit seasoned quite nicely. It came with a side of haricots verts that tasted like it was drenched in petrol, and I genuinely believed one bite of it could have been noxious to my health. Food was okay (not great) but service was abysmal. We waited 50 minutes for bread and hummus... and the bread came out stale twice. They said it was a busy night with deliveries however that's not an excuse for neglecting your customers when they're sitting in the cold to support your business. Hardly an effort from staff to rectify the issues so it stands to say we will likely not be returning. Couldn't decide whether 3 or 4, probably somewhere in the middle. This is my second time here and their food is a little hit and miss. Some items are tasty and others just fall flat and the service is a little neglectful. It's hard to get the server's attentions and even just getting additional bread takes at least 25 mins. I have always been a huge fan of Lighthouse. We have been a few times since the pandemic, and they've done a fabulous job. The menu is consistently delicious--the sourdough with mezze, the always delicious seasonal vegetables, the fries. The prices are excellent, considering the finesse and quality of the food. The service is always friendly and casual, and the wine list has some fantastic options at not too crazy prices (the cocktails are great, though, as well!). I have one major piece of feedback regarding the burger. It used to be our favorite in Williamsburg. Perfectly pink at medium rare, with a line line of red rareness in the middle, a good bit of char with plenty of funk from what I assume was dry-aged beef, punchy cheese, and a great sesame bun--so delicious. The past three times we have been, however, we have been disappointed by the aggressively charred and overcooked, completely gray burger. Each time we try again in hopes that it'll return to its former glory. The quality of the beef still seems high, but they've lost their touch with the cook time. I will definitely return to this amazing neighborhood spot, but avoid the burger until a change is made. Thank you for all the other fabulous dishes and a great experience overall! read more

We had reservations at 9pm. We arrived on time and they told us they were a bit behind and to sit at the bar. Eventually the manager bought the four of us a round of drinks because it was taking so long, that was a night gesture. We didn't get seated until 10:10pm. By then we were pretty tired and it really put a damper on our night. When we finally got seated the waitress was rude and short with us. My friend asked if she could go over the menu for us (explain which plates were small plates etc.) and she said "what do you want to know?" That was the perfect opportunity for her to upsell us and she just avoided the question. For example the first four items on the menu are dips for bread, how are we supposed to know that? They were also out of burrata and ceviche, they had these items at 9pm when we arrived. That was a bummer, we were actually going to order both. I ordered the big salad and it was very good. My friends ordered oysters, octopus, the burger and chicken sandwich. All were decently good. Our waitress never really came to check on us during the meal. We ran out of water twice and she was super behind each time. The one highlight of this place was the sweet hostess!! She was such a pleasure to work with and was soooo apologetic about the long wait. She checked in on us frequently, I should of got her name but she has long light brown hair. To recap: the atmosphere is very nice, drinks were good, food was good. Giving it 5 stars because of the great service. We had the waiter whose name I can't recall (I'M SORRY) but he had bleach blonde hair and is a little shy but super super nice. We brought a dog with us to lunch and he even brought the dog bowl and gave our dog fresh water to drink ;___; (MVP). We ordered the ceviche (which is salmon btw) and a pita with duck. Both were pretty yummy, although since I've eaten so much ceviche in different establishments both in NY and in the lovely country of Mexico, it didn't live up to my standards. It definitely could've used a touch more of acidity, but I think the intention is to have a more creamy sauce since there is corn. Maybe by providing a half a lime or lemon could elevate the dish, and let the customer have the option to splash it onto their ceviche! The duck in pita was DELICIOUS! This restaurant was amazing! I have very high standards when I dine out and this restaurant delivered on all levels. I came here last night with two girlfriends for a Saturday night dinner out. First off, the hostess and our server were so kind and the service was excellent. But the food--OMG! You must have the burrata with the grilled sourdough. The gluten free bread was also delicious and we put some of the burrata on that too. We also had the green salad with the truffle dressing and the escarole was the best I have ever had. For our main course we had some delicious burgers. And for dessert we had the Pa Pie with the labne which is sort of like a toffee pie and one of the best desserts I have ever had. Terrible brunch service. I went there this past Sunday with three family members. There was a DJ playing very loud music at the bar at noon with a lot of his admirers (?) milling around him so the place was already very loud and crowded. We ordered a pitcher of their featured brunch cocktail from one server only to be told five minutes later by another sever that they were out of one of the ingredients so it wasn't available. Fine, we ordered a different drink and then put in our brunch order which included entrees and two appetizers. Five minutes later (with no drinks in sight), my chilaquiles arrives unceremoniously at the table. No one else's food or the apps or are drinks arrived for another ten minutes. And the eggs on my chilaquiles were still raw. We finally flag down a server and I tell her that my eggs are raw and asked why mine came out even before the drinks. She said, "we bring the food when it comes out at brunch and that's how we served the eggs but I can have them cooked more for you." Finally everyone gets their food (the apps came out a lot later than the entrees) and my chilaquiles return with overcooked eggs with hard yolks. We finish our meal and when we get the bill they had charged us twice for the drinks and it was another several minutes to flag down a server to fix it. To top it all off, we were right by the kitchen and I saw a chilaquiles with perfectly done eggs (and yolks) being garnished with cilantro and whisked to a table with a bottle of hot sauce. Not only did I get raw eggs on mine and served before we even got the drinks but I also didn't get any of the garnishes on it. Terrible, terrible service. I don't typically leave Yelp reviews but my experience at Lighthouse was so awful that it warranted leaving a review. I walked in with my sister on a Saturday night around 7:30. The hostess told us that there were no available tables until 8:45 and that we were welcome to sit at the bar. No big deal. We decide to book the 7:45 reservation through Resy and wait at the bar. After standing at the bar for a few minutes we start to notice that people are walking in and getting seated. Assuming that they must have also had reservations, we keep waiting/munching at the bar. Around 8:30 (and after seeing numerous walk-ins get seated) we remind the hostess of our reservation. She does not ask for a name and kind of ignore us. The bartender, seeing this, asks us if we want him to tell the hostess about our reservation which was the only bright spot of the night. He confirms that the hostess knows about our reservation. The hostess finally comes up to us to tell us that our table will be ready shortly. She explained that they are waiting for a group (of maybe 6) at one of the smaller tables to move to the bigger table that their reservation was for. A portion of this group came in after us (about two of them) and the hostess sat them the small table to wait for the rest of their party. That's right. She sat a group who already had a reservation at a larger table at the smaller table to wait. They could have waited at the bar. When we asked the hostess why she decided to let them wait at that table instead of letting us, a full party with also with a reservation, sit, she had no good answer. Around 9:20 we were finally sat at the table. I ordered the spicy mussels and my sister the steak salad. The food came out relatively quickly. The steak for the salad came out on skewers. It was dim and hard to see in the restaurant. The server did not mention that the skewers were made of metal. When my sister went to reach over her plate to grab a fork (they put forks in cups instead of on the table) she burned herself. The skewer was so hot that it left a burn mark on her arm. After getting burned, my sister asked the server for ice and to speak to the manager. Turns out the hostess is the manager. She explains everything that happened and all the manager initially is sorry. No "how can I make this better" or anything. After my sister shows the manager the burn mark on her arm the manager finally tells us that she will comp the meal. For the rest of the dinner, we are ignored by both the server and the manager. They either walk by us or avoid going to our table entirely. At the end of the meal, there was no sign of whether or not a check was coming. We assumed that only the steak salad would be comped and waiting to pay for the rest of the meal. But since the server and manager were ignoring us, we had no way of knowing how the comp would be worked out. Finally, after about 20 minutes of waiting, the server over and asking if there would be a check, he tells us no. In sum: Long wait, disorganized hostess and dangerous plating led to a truly atrocious experience. There's a bunch of better restaurants around Williamsburg. There's no need to go to Lighthouse. read more

Lighthouse could not have been better named - lofty, floor-to-ceiling, west-facing window sheets color early afternoon brunch bright and warm. As an evening bar situated at the triangular apex of Borinquen Place, it's a literal beacon, beckoning softly to Bushwick: "I may be new, but I'm not a child of post-gentrification Williamsburg. I'm East-meets-West. I straddle the past and the future." Which would be true - there's minimal pretension and maximum good, friendly service abound in this rustic, spacious cafeteria. Food is a palatable ~$10-$20 (and of decent, if not extraordinary quality); cocktails are well-prepared. There was a DJ this past Sunday morning, which was weird, but inoffensive. As a bar, and nothing more, Lighthouse is just too damn expensive. I didn't try the food, so I'm not passing judgement on that. Their beer selection is thoughtful, but still very pricy. For a dollar more at other bars nearby, I can get the larger Weihenstephaner, just as an example. So I opted for a Hendricks and Soda that turned out to be $9. I'm fine with a $9 top shelf drink, but expect a decent pour and in a decent sized glass. They serve their cocktails in these tiny little glasses. It's ridiculous. On top of that, they tried to be fancy and use homemade seltzer, which turned out flat. Good idea, badly implemented. My friends ordered regular ol' vodka soda and guess what - that was $9 too! It wasn't even top shelf!!! How can you charge $9 for Hendricks and the same price for well vodka? A few of the guys I was with said their Bullet on the rocks was $13, which is apparently really expensive too. So yeah, maybe the food is good here - but the drinks are too expensive to take this place seriously as a bar. My group walked 2 blocks down Grand and enjoyed $5 drinks that packed more punch than anything here. Such a shame, cause this place is actually cute. Lower the prices and maybe I'll consider giving it another shot. read more

Came here Saturday night with some guy I met on OK Cupid. I was hesitant about the guy in the first place, then when he said let's go to Lighthouse I was like ok whatever. Never been. Be prepared to be hit over the head with a hipster 2X4 the minute you walk in. My date (who turned out to be a conservative) ordered a cocktail called the Good and Plenty. I was like Really? Dude, you think I'm gonna be impressed? I ordered a martini, asked for a double and they declined. What's worse - they served it with a twist not an olive. Pure muck and too much vermouth. I watched my date sip his insipid cocktail while telling me about the social app he's developing. "Uh huh". Then the food came. I showed up starving and completely empty. I ordered the pickles but the portions were so small I was afraid to eat them knowing they'd be gone in a flash. I think a piece of cauliflower disappeared on it's way from the plate to my beckoning mouth. (Why should pickles be such a hot item? My grandmother made them all the time. All you do is put vegetables in a jar, fill it with vinegar and bay leaves, then put it in a dark place and wait....). Chicken was so-so, soggy and I wanted crisp. Ordered oysters and they never came (that's one of my favorite things in life - oysters with a cold martini, such a sensual combination for a first date and always puts me in the mood to take the next step.... sorry future Mark Zuckerberg, you chose the place). The wait for my first martini was so long that I ordered another when the server arrived. He actually gave me a miffed look and I wanted to kick him in the ass. After my first bite of chicken, I decided in order for this to taste good I'd need to order the most expensive bottle of wine on the menu. A lovely italian red - $150/bottle - no idea what it was called. I looked around, utterly yucked out, and told the guy I needed to use the restroom. I had the pleasure of having dinner at this restaurant on opening night a few weeks ago. It was especially interesting for me because I also live in the same building where the restaurant is located (it should make for a full belly but also doom me for I will never leave my block) and I had a chance to see all the hard work they put into building the place from scratch. The environment is intimate but still lively, the DJ was playing great music at the end of the bar. Food was wonderful, I had the lamb (awesome) and I will be looking forward to testing out the other items on the menu as they add them in the future. We just ate here on the opening week and we had such a wonderful experience. We stumbled upon it haphazardly and I have to see to we're glad we did. The restaurant has a very open feel with communal tables and high ceilings.This is a wonderful alternative to some of the other foodie hotspots that fill up quick like Rye or Walter Foods. Lighthouse is a classy yet low-key affair with beautiful wooden communal tables and candlelight, allowing for an intimate dining experience with friends or loved ones. Chef Nick Cox of La Esquina has just opened this new place, which oozes with his heart and soul; each small plate, each fish and meat is given his sweet lovin'. I came with my boyfriend, his friend, and my cousin, all people I adore, and we were given a lot of attention, the service was thorough and impeccable! The waitress was very knowledgeable and gave great suggestions for drinks, appetizers and the entrees. We especially enjoyed the plate with pickled herring and smoked trout mousse, and anchovies that came with toasted pumpernickel bread, the fluke ceviche, the juicy ribeye with jalepenos (better than a Peter Luger steak or any steakhouse steak), and the loup de mer, which is fire grilled and flavored with garlic, olive oil, and salt and just falls off in huge fluffy chunks. The fish was actually the best fish I've ever had, which is saying a lot, I know. Lastly, we had the apple cinnamon cake and the chocolate cake that came with a hazelnut mousse, both were rich and dreamy with flavors.
