Horrible customer service. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted or acknowledged, while everyone who came in after me was welcomed and asked if they needed help. I didn't think much of it at first, but things got worse when I asked to make a return. The employee immediately told me the hat wasn't eligible because the brim was curved, even though I purchased it that way. After explaining this, she finally agreed to process the return but told me I would only get $27 back on a $50 hat because I had used store credit toward the purchase. I explained that the store credit was still money I had previously paid, but instead of trying to understand, she gave me attitude and was not helpful at all. I grabbed my hat and left the store. I've shopped at Lids before, but this experience was extremely disappointing. Customer service should not depend on who walks through the door, and employees should be willing to respectfully explain return policies and try to work things out with a customer instead of giving attitude. I am usually never a person to put bad reviews, but unfortunately today the service was horrible. I walk in with my dad because he needed me to ask the employees a question regarding the sale happening. First off, there was a group of guys and 1 women . i assumed they were all workers, but later found out that only the women was. I wasn't welcomed in the store, and offered any assistance. i eventually had to go up to the group of people assuming they were all workers while they were chit chatting asking her my concern. She obviously gave me an answer but didn't offer entirely the helped i needed. I didn't feel welcome in the store, and the employee was no help because she was just dancing to music with the guys and messing around, very unprofessional. I decided to leave because i felt unwelcomed and uncomfortable. read more

- Okay customer Service - Cash Register are employees phone I like how lids always has a sale section. There was no cash register so did not know where to go to make a purchase. Visited this lids location while in the bay area and was searching for a Los Angeles or San Diego chargers hat. although they have so many hats of raiders Niners patriots etc. they did not have a single chargers head which was a shame because I was ready and willing to pay whatever price they had. The associate that was working was very friendly she asked if I need anything unfortunately they did not have what I was looking for. There were a lot of Golden state warriors hat which is understandable and all the other hats or reasonably price significantly cheaper than what I'm used to seeing in San Diego. i'll be back again for sure is this lids location is located directly across from the food court laugh out loud. read more

I've been on the hunt for very specific San Francisco Giants city connect 59 fifty fitted hat. I've been trying to track one down, since they revealed them to the fans this season. After no luck online, three different lids or the official Giants dugout store, I decided to give this location a try and my searched ended. I was relieved when I saw they had the hat, this lids just like all the rest I have been to, since this is a bay area location, they had a heep of S.F. Giants hats (as expected) There was only two customers besides myself and one of them was waiting on the embroidery job. The employee was busy and was still able to greet me when I walked in, I would of grabbed the hat myself, but it was located on the top shelf so I waited until she was done helping the other customer - eventually another employee came from the back and helped me. Overall I thought the staff here was very nice and helpful, and I will go back. This location came through and saved me a trip of trying the other locations on my list. I like my new Giants hat and can't wait to rock it, when I go to Oracle Park - thank you! read more

Selection is decent. Hats look cheap as heck. Overpriced for the quality. Terrible customer service. Didn't speak to us when we walked in. When we made our selection and walked up to the register the lady says "what's up?" as if we were bothering her or she forgot she was at work. Like girl we want to pay for our stuff. Her attitude stinks. The guy who helped us ate hot chips licked his fingers and started helping us. This is the worst mall I've been to in years. I thought maybe because of the high end stores the mall would be a great experience. Terrible terrible terrible. I hate this mall. read more

We came here for a simple exchange of a wrong size , and the employees here are completely untrained on how to do their jobs correctly, and they refused to put the effort to even help us with a receipt issue. Let me start out by saying Gabriel is the nicest person ever, he was so patient with me when I made a mistake on the spelling of a word. He made My Dads Christmas Hat or Lid look so fabulous, I'm super impressed and the price was amazing. I shopped around and it was a third of the cost to come here. Thanks for a great job! We had our customized hats here last weekend. It wasn't a pleasant experience because the employee who helped us looked quite mean, not necessarily rude, but... mean... like she's been having a bad day. We were concerned that the letters wouldn't come out as good as expected, so we first placed an order for just one hat; it actually turned out pretty good so we went back and placed an order for a second one. They were nice enough to give us the buy one get one 50% off price. However, the letters on the second hat didn't come out good because it was off-center; since it was quite expensive, we went to tell the employee about it. She looked at it for a bit and said "alright, I'll re-do it" (such a relief because for some reason we were scared to go tell her). So we paid for the first hat for about $39 and second hat about $29; they didn't tell us that the rise-up letters cost $6.99 extra per hat, we were quite surprised when we paid. The replacement came out to be perfect, so we left right away and don't plan to come back for future hats. read more

We came from 45 minutes away after we spoke to their employee about what we needed a day before. He said the hats would be set aside and we confirmed a bulk order discount and he said yes that is correct. We showed up and they didn't have the hats set aside So we told them what we needed and asked to confirm their discount with a bulk order and they said yes. We did a sample hat and asked them to ring us up. They did not follow through with the discount. My husband told the manager that she had confirmed the discount before we even asked for the sample and she said she didn't not. LIE! I was there. He also told them that the guy we spoke to yesterday confirmed it and their response was "he wasn't suppose to be working yesterday" how is that our problem? We don't schedule your staff. Don't believe them if you have questions on custom/bulk orders they don't know what they are taking about if they m lie to their customers. Never again. I went in after work, roughly 7:30pm on a Friday. The guy who helped me was great. He read his customer, which was me, a woman who clearly isn't the usual clientele but is buying for a gift. I told the employee that I was looking for a Brixton and he seemed fairly new as he asked another employee where he could show me them. The other employee obnoxiously yelled, "they're right in front of you, fool!" At this point I took note of their name badges. The helpful employee, Henry, replied, "ok I'm not seeing them, where are they." The other employee who didn't seem to acknowledge the customer his coworker was helping kept saying, "they're right there!" I was about ready to walk out as I was so turned off by this obnoxious behavior but I spotted what I needed and asked Henry to ring me up. I wound up buying 2 because Henry told me about the deal they had going on but man, somebody should talk to that other guy about customer service and being a team player with your coworkers. His obnoxious attitude was a real turn off from venturing back to shop again. I caught his name tag: Carlos. Just a heads up. read more

My 12 year old son was excited to purchase a hat at LIds using his recent birthday money. We went to two Lids but were unable to find the hat that he wanted in his size. We decided to drive 25 miles south to a 3rd Lide at Valley Fair, store # 0161. We were both excited when they had the hat in his size- our excitement quickly turned to frustration and then complete disappointment. There was only one store employee in the store at the time. She was working at the personalization station the entire time. Never looked up, never greeted us, just completely ignored us. I realized she was busy with the machine so I didn't think too much of it. When we were ready to check out, I was confused and thought you checked out at that station as there was a computer there. I stood there for a couple of minutes - she never acknowledged me . My son realized we were supposed to check out at the brown table (with no signage). We stood there for 10 minutes, while she continued to try to fix the issue she was having with the machine. She had ear buds in her ears and was talking to someone on the phone about an issue with the string. After 10 + minutes of just standing there . I stepped closer and asked if theee was someone who could help us. She responded with give me a minute. She came over a few minutes later and I assumed she would apologize for having us wait over 10 minutes . She takes the hat from my son and says, "sorry we are out of bags". We say that is fine . She then asks for an email to send the receipt to. I give her my email and she proceeds to ring him up. He hands her a $100 bill. She says, " I don't have any change, are you ok not getting back any change? I ask how much is it. She responds the total is $50.20- I decide to eat the .80 so we can get out the store, but I did feel it was wrong and that Lids should have absorbed the .20, if they didn't have change or at least had a sign saying exact change only so we could go been prepared. She takes the $100 and gives my son back $49 in change - . I ask for a receipt and she says , sorry our printer is broken you can only get an emailed receipt. When we left the store my son , said that doesn't seem right , that she said I couldn't have my change and he asked if I thought she put that he was given the right amount of change on the receipt. Which sure enough the receipt states that she gave him 50.80 back in change, which is false. There was something completely shady about the whole experience and it left a horrible feeling with both my son and I. I realize .80 is not a lot money but It made me wonder how many other customers she was doing the "no change" routine to, and how that change can add up. When she opened the drawer we could see that there were some coins in there. I am not sure if there was .80, but at least give him what you had. I would assume that she would at least have indicated that money difference on the receipt or the store totals would not reconcile. The whole experience was horrible and we left there feeling uneasy and disappointed. read more

This lids is better than all of the others in the area. I bought my grandpa a warriors championships shirt for fathers day,but it ended up being a bit snug. I didn't take off the NBA official sticker and kept my receipts, but eastridge and the greatmall wouldn't return it for lack or stok on shirt or for stickers that didn't come with the shirt not being there. Great service tonight while getting my new all blac Niners hat. Renewed my Lids card and saved $7 in the process. Yeah buddy!!!!

On Saturday evening December 17th between 4:45pm - 5:15pm I was shopping at Westfield - Valley Fair with my wife and kids. During our store visit to Lids I had an unpleasant encounter with store manager Daryl. After grabbing a hat from high above with a grabber tool placed against the wall I heard a voice saying , "Hey you can't do that." I had already placed the grabber back up against the wall when I was loudly approached by Daryl. He said , "This is a two way conversation , when someone talks to you-it requires a response." I politely said , "Oh , you are talking to me?" He said , "Of course I am , did you hear me?" After being talked to this way I just wanted to finish my shopping and get out of the store. Daryl continued by aggressively stepping closer to me , standing taller and raising his voice. I firmly told him , "There is no need to be disrespectful , I have my wife and kids here and don't appreciate the way you are talking to me." I asked for his name and he told me , "It's Daryl , I'm the store manager." At that point I decided not to pursue the issue. He boldly said , "Let's go out of the store and discuss this." I adamantly agreed. I wanted to understand why he was making a big deal over such a little issue. After exiting the store he started to harass me by saying , "I ain't no 21 , 22 year old punk. You want to handle this we can do this." I stated I wasn't there to fight , I was there to buy gifts and to spend time with my family. The situation was very uncomfortable for both my wife and kids. I decided to not purchase anything from the store. My wife had 5 hats in her hand and both my boys had hats in their hand ready to purchase. I had to apologize to my boys and took the hats back. My 9 year old was devastated. Daryl would not leave it alone. He tried to take the hats from me , I decided I would just place the hats at the registrar to be put back. Sometime during the conversation he said , "Do I need to call security?" I said , "Please do , I will wait for them. I need to write a formal complaint. You threatened and harassed me." He shrugged and said , "Whatever." He was very rude to not only myself but other guests in the store. I understand we all have bad days and moments but this was completely unprovoked. Nobody deserves to be reaed in this manner. I gave this a 2 start rating because the remaining staff was very friendly and helpful . Unfortunately 1 bad apples spoils the bunch. Daryl is definetly a bad apple read more

Good to see I'm not alone with my opinion of the manager Daryl. The following is my opinion on my experience at this particular Lids store inside Valley Fair Mall. I came in hoping to exchange my hat for a different color. I handed it to the lady, who was ready to take the return, but then Daryl stepped in (forgot exactly how) saying he wouldn't take the hat back because it was worn and there was dust. I wore the hat just once for a baseball game I didn't even play in. All the tags were still on the hat, the bill was straight. What kind of store doesn't let you return something you tried on and doesn't fit? The return policy is worthless if you can't try it out and return it. I tried to explain that nothing in the receipt says I can't return it just because of a little dust (the return policy on the receipt does not say that). I asked him to point it out where it says that, but he treated me with disrespect and talked to me in a condescending tone. I could not believe it! There were other customers in line while I was civilly pleading my case, and he yells, "LET ME HELP THE OTHER CUSTOMERS. I WILL DEAL WITH YOU IN A SECOND." He said it like I was arguing at him or like I was a criminal. Then, when I kept pleading my case about why a return/exchange should be granted, he says rudely that he's not going to take the return and that he can't resell it like that. I was respectful all the while, but he was being argumentative. He's missing the point. He wasn't honoring the store return policy. Nothing said on the receipt I couldn't return because I wore it once or it had to be in perfect condition. Still, I would have understood if he would not have taken it, but it was the attitude that stunk. The bottom line is this manager does not understand what it means to treat the customer with respect. It's not the lack of a return that upset me. It was the attitude and condescending demeanor I was talked to with by, in my opinion, the most unfriendliest store manager I have ever encountered. The other poster was correct when he/she said they take your $40, then after that, they don't care. Stay away from this store. I will be calling corporate to report this manager and I am happy these Yelp! reviews will help state my case. Corporate will be hearing from me,and I encourage others to do the same. read more

I will never shop at this location again. I was there to exchange my son's hat and decided to have the new one embroidered with his name on it. The sewing machine didn't work and you couldn't read the name. I had to wait for more than an hour for an employee to pull out the threads in his free time between talking with other customers. That employee was kind and friendly While waiting I asked another employee (maybe the manager) if I could take advantage of their "buy one get one half price" deal but I wasn't allowed to because it was an exchange?!? I asked if they could make an exception since I had been waiting so long. But no! They tried to embroider the hat again and then just put it in a bag and handed it to me. I had to take it out of the bag to check it. It still didn't look very good but for my son's sake, I thought I would take it home and fix it with a needle and thread. The main employee (manager) was rude and not very professional and his conversations with other customers were also "street-like" and not appropriate. I felt very uncomfortable and couldn't wait to leave the store. I have never written a bad review before but my experience today changed that! read more

I bought my father in-law a MLB WS Champs cap after the 2012 WS. I had lids at another location embroider his name on the back and 2010 2012 one the side opposite the WS patch. After the 2014 WS he wanted to add 2014 to the list. We stopped by this location and the place was packed, we were helped in a decent amount of time. The person who helped us said they could do it for $10 and would take about an hour. We opted to walk around the mall and wait. When we came back, we were told that the stitching was going to have to be removed and redone to reposition the numbers. I said no problem and would come back the next morning. When I arrived the next morning, I asked for the hat and it was the manager that helped me this time. He laughed once I told him which hat it was. He told me they don't do re-stitching as it tends to damage the hat. But since the person who helped us started it the previous day, they had no choice. He was out to lunch the previous day and the gal who helped us did not know. When he returned from lunch, he made sure someone took their time (4 hrs) on removing the old stitching. The final product was perfect. It was not noticeable at all that the hat had been reworked. I have purchased other items here and had them embroidered....for this reason I will continue to do so. 10 Stars for Candy who gave excellent customer service. Two Thursdays past, I did an online order for in-store pick-up later that evening. When I arrived, the female that helped me informed me that only one of the two hats of the same brand I ordered was available and that their stock of the other actually wasn't available and I would need to come back in 5 to 7 business days for it to be brought in. The following Monday I called again, concerned because I signed, but didn't get a verification that I only received. After going back and forth that I had to wait, I waited. Yesterday, I called in to find out about my second hat and spoke to Candy, someone else this time. I aggressively explained what was up, and being unfamiliar she patiently spent 10 minutes trying to both understand the situation and my concern and explain what may have happened. She figured I had only been charged for the one hat and asked if I had received an email confirmation about that. Being unable at that moment, I later did and saw that I had indeed received a confirmation of only being charged for the one hat, but the other had been cancelled for whatever reason that same evening I went to pick up even though being told I'd have to wait. I felt I needed to apologize and still wanting another hat I figured I'd go in given I had a bit of free time. When I arrived, I was engaged by Candy, and asked if she had been the one I spoke to. When she confirmed, I apologized for being a pain by being so aggressive and for taking as much time as I had of their for nothing in the end due to my failure to check my email. She graciously stated it was no big deal as they've had worse and then went on to help me find a hat for me to replace the one that was cancelled and was unavailable regionally, sticking with me for quite a bit and not just pointing, even looking in the back. She let me know about deals going on with the premium membership. Deciding to buy 3 hats (one of the brand I had with the original hat, and two of another more expensive brand) and the membership, she rung it up to give me a great price while I contemplated between 3 or 4 hats given the price. I then left with the 3 satisfied. As soon as I left the store I put the second brand on as opposed to the brand of the original hat I got initially and liked it and headed to my car. Getting to the parking garage, I decided that I really liked the feeling of the more expensive hat, and giving the buy one get one half off deal, I decided to go back and return the less expensive, original brand hat I had just bought and buy two more of the more expensive hat. I walked back to the garage, told Candy what was up and she graciously helped me return the less expensive hat and buy the two more of the more expensive brand. In the end, I ended up buying 5 blank hats from Lids in less than two weeks. My original from the online order I was able to pick up that was the cheaper brand and the four I bought from Candy last night of the more expensive brand. I highly recommend working with Candy to get what you need at Lids. She's knowledgeable, willingly super helpful, which is key to great customer service. Hope everyone else at the store is just the same. Though the mixed reviews make me wonder. In the end I never got the other gals name, but she definitely didn't give the same level of customer service. read more
