The closest Dicks Sporting goods to me right in the Sunnyvale area right off El Camino. It's in a shopping center near Ross and Sprouts. During the World Cup they were selling a specific World Cup pin that other stores didn't carry or you had to pay double the price for it online. I checked the inventory on the store website and it said they have about 6 in stock, so I went in to grab it. Upon entering I was greeted immediately and found that the World Cup section was directly upfront by the registers which was great, but I wasn't successful in finding the pin, so the cashier tried helping look for it and we had no luck. They doubled check to see if there were any in the back, but there weren't. I was told it's here but misplaced somewhere else and they had no clue. I was on the hunt for this pin and no other locations at Dicks had it except for the Sunnyvale location. I was disappointed I couldn't get the pin, but the people here were really nice and tried to locate it. read more

Posting this as a cautionary tale for anyone buying shoes at Dick's Sporting Goods - Sunnyvale. This would have been a one star rating if not for Xavier in Footwear. Excellent service and attitude. I bought a pair of On Cloud shoes and within 5 days realized they were too big. The issue only showed up in real-world use: when walking downhill my foot slid forward into the toe box. That's not something you reliably catch by taking a few steps indoors. I went back to do a simple exchange (not a refund). The shoes were clean and in excellent condition. The only visible difference was very slight yellowing on the outsole contact pads -- noticeable under their bright store lighting but not dirty, or damaged. At first I was told the exchange would be fine. After further inspection, they reversed course and said the shoes were not "resaleable" due to wear. I spoke with multiple people (each initially identifying themselves as "the manager" before clarifying their role), and after a lot of back and forth the best options offered were: * 15% off a replacement pair, or * $60 store credit as a "no receipt return" value (they said this reflects the lowest recent selling price and excludes clearance). I ultimately took the $60 credit because my time is worth something and I needed the correct size. But the key takeaway is this: If you buy shoes here, assume you cannot test them outdoors -- even briefly -- without risking being denied an exchange. The 90-day return policy sounds generous, but in practice footwear appears to need to look completely unworn to qualify. I'm sharing this so others don't make the same assumption I did. read more

Sunday, July 19, around 6:00 p.m. My family and I asked if it would be possible to receive a discount on a display shoe and another pair that was noticeably dirty. We were simply asking if any accommodation could be made. Marcus told us it wasn't possible. When we politely asked to speak with a manager, his entire demeanor changed. He became passive-aggressive, dismissive, and spoke to us in a disrespectful manner. Instead of trying to help or explaining the store's policy professionally, he responded with an attitude that made an already disappointing situation much worse. On 11/11 around 4 PM, I came in to buy a helmet for my child. The helmet section was placed directly next to the dumbbells -- no barrier, no signage, no warning. My 4-year-old lightly touched one, and it rolled onto her finger. Immediate swelling and bruising. I asked to speak with the manager and suggested they post a sign to prevent this from happening to another child. The on-duty manager, Nebal, showed no concern. No apology. Just a smirk and the words: "It's a dumbbell section, what did you expect?" That response was insulting. Instead of taking responsibility, he accused us of trying to get compensated and told us to leave. I returned the helmet on the spot. I will not support a store that treats injured children and concerned parents with such arrogance. Fully realize that it is hard to find help inside this extremely large business, but the big upside is that they have a massive amount of inventory in stock which makes for a positive overall experience. Obviously if you're buying athletic gear, shoes, gloves, treadmills, etc., it REALLY HELPS if you can try it on or get a feel for it. Yes it may take a bit longer to grab an employee to help you, but this place is enormous (Costco size) and only has a handful of employees. But all employee interactions have been very helpful and pleasant--there are just not enough of them. Recently I came back to buy a large treadmill that I really needed to test out. Bought the Sole F85 treadmill--this one is awesome after having tested it inside the Dicks's Sunnyvale store and now at home after a couple months. We came to Dicks to check out the soccer shoes selection for myself. Dicks is actually a pretty impressive sports store. We don't really have any sports stores in Hawaii so to see a big sports store like this was great. They have their store arranged neatly by types of sports. The shoes were in the back so I went to the back to check it out. I was walking around several times but I didn't see any women's soccer shoes. There were kid ones and men one but no women ones. No one seemed to be in the area to help so after a while we just left. Overall nice store and setup but need to work a little harder on customer service read more

Sometimes a purchase doesn't go as you planned, but the customer service you receive in the process is still excellent. That was my recent experience at the Dick's Sporting Goods in Sunnyvale. My husband and I have been researching stationary bikes online and talked with friends who have one about their experience. We had narrowed down our preferences and headed to Dick's, so we could see and test the bikes in person. We sat on and pedaled the various bikes we were interested in and were 99% sure we had made our choice, but I wanted to see the screen in action, first. I had not seen any employees walking around, so I went to the cashier's desk at the front of the store. I let a cashier know what I needed and she left her post to find someone who could help us. I know retailers are understaffed right now, so I didn't let having to find help bother me; I appreciated the cashier's pleasantness and effort to help. I told her we would wait by the stationary bikes. The cashier returned with her assistant manager, Silvia. Silvia found the power strip to which bikes could be connected, but the model I was looking at was too far from it, so she excused herself and came back with an extension cord. None of us could then find the plug on the bike! Silvia excused herself again and came back with the store manager, Kenny, who had literally just walked in the door--he had not even taken off his backpack, yet. Kenny knew how to connect the bike to the power source and we were in business. After sitting on the bike with the screen demo running, my husband and I knew we wanted to purchase this model. Silvia was able to check their inventory and confirmed they had one in stock. Kenny explained how to drive around back to pick up the large item. After paying at the front of the store, we drove around back and Silvia was there with another employee to help load the large, heavy item. As they were getting the item onto a dolly, they realized a corner of the box was torn and some of the bolts and screws fell out. This didn't seem good, but they were confident they had all of the parts and this was just damage to the box. Silvia assured me we could return the item if there was a problem, but to compensate for the damaged box she took me back inside and gave me a 10% refund. My husband and I got the bike home and opened the box. Uh oh. It was immediately obvious that the parts were not factory packed. Everything had been previously opened and thrown back in the box. I was still willing to keep the bike if it was in good condition and all of the parts were there, but unfortunately some of the large parts were scratched and most of the hardware was missing. I called the store. Their phone rang for a while (the phone probably rings at the cashier's desk and they were likely helping customers). A person eventually answered and I asked to speak to Kenny or Silvia. I was transferred and Kenny immediately answered. I told him who I was and the condition of the bike. He was shocked. I told him I would be returning the bike and he asked when we would be there, so he could have someone ready for us. We went back to the store with the bike and I told the cashier that I had called, spoken to Kenny, and was returning a stationary bike. She didn't know what was going on, but radioed Silvia, who rushed right up and took care of the refund. She was apologetic for the inconvenience and gave me a gift card as an added means of apology. Okay, the situation with the stationary bike wasn't good. This item had definitely been purchased, assembled, and then disassembled and returned at some point. Dick's staff needs to check returns much more carefully so things like this don't happen. They might also make it a policy to open large items like this when a purchase is being made, so they can ensure the item is brand new and factory packed. However, I don't believe that Silvia or Kenny knowingly sold me merchandise in this state. Why would they? They know I would return it upon discovery. Silvia and Kenny were both friendly and helpful in the store and extremely apologetic when I made the return. They did their best to maintain and restore good will. If they had another one of the bikes I wanted in stock, I would have checked it with them and made the exchange, but they only had the one, so I had to do a straightforward return. The store was neat and clean. Kenny and Silvia were both great. If you are in the market for a large-ticket item, I suggest asking for either of them. Just check the box contents before you purchase! read more

Talk about pricey! I've stopped by a few times the past couple of days, and just make sure to do your research and figure out what you really need before you settle for these prices. It was a go-to store back when I played baseball, but that was when I needed heavy-level athletic gear and general stores didn't carry many options. Recently I was looking for punching mitts and exercise mats for just home workouts. The same mitts were found cheaper on Amazon, and for what I was looking for the $5-10 mats from Ross next door worked just as well as the $40-50 ones we were looking at here. It's a nice store, the staff was kind and asked if any help was needed. If the price is worth it, then there is some good quality stuff, just make sure to do the research first. read more

Just came in for some gloves real quick and the trip was nice and fast. The 1 star is because I told the cashier I do not want the protection on the gloves as these are practice ones. I walk out the door and look at the receipt and see it was $58 and sure enough the protection is there. This is shady to get the credit for the up sell. Which store has a women's tennis shoe section, but no men's tennis shoe section? DSG on same site as the bankrupt and long gone Sports Authority. Across the street from Big 5 Sporting Goods and about a mile away from Sports Basement, it's main competitor. Checked out the DSG web site before coming here for selection and availability by size, for this store, as internet sales are absolutely killing big retail stores. If you absolutely have to have the latest in name brand gear and want it today, this is the place to get it. Camping gear, fishing gear, hunting gear, athletic sports gear, snowboards, you name it, they have it. Well, no downhill skis. And of course there is a background check and waiting period on gun and ammo sales. For 3 decades I went to Big 5 Sporting goods across the street, for hiking boots, tennis shoes, and especially running shoes, all models 2-3 years old, heavily discounted with weekly sales. Got my ski outfits there, but had to get downhill skis at specialty ski stores. Eventually B5S discontinued selling tennis shoes, as millennials went with multi sport trainer shoes. Dick's Sporting Goods has name brand items of this year's models. Huge place, well organized, clean, with great service, with associates in each department ready to help you. Running shoes, basketball shoes, women's tennis shoes, but no men's tennis shoes. Well almost no tennis shoes, except for the Stan Smith leather tennis shoes weighting a full pound, from the 1970s. Retro style. Millennials will wear them, but not for tennis. DSG sells 2017 model Nike, Saucony, and New Balance running shoes, at full retail price, but no Hoka running shoes, which Sports Authority sold. They sell only New Balance running shoes, not tennis shoes. And on the tennis courts, what do I see -all the senior guys in New Balance tennis shoes, with the wide sizes, purchased on the internet, as even specialty tennis stores don't carry the wide sizes. I checked out the men Chaco sports sandals on the internet, and DSG had a few but all selling for full retail price at $99, smaller selection than REI. You can get the same sandal for $60 at SierraTradingPost on the internet. I checked out the basketball shoes, but no Stephen Curry basketball shoes. They have LeBron James shoes and $185 Air Jordan shoes. And of course no $495 Big Baller shoes. Way things going, I expect the Big Ballers to eventually sell for 90% off at B5S in a couple of years. Got to be careful about wearing Air Jordan shoes, as stories of dudes stealing your AJ shoes at gunpoint in sketchy neighborhoods. I don't have that problem as my men's shoe size 8 is too small for most male robbers, but would fit a woman robber who wore size 9 shoes! read more

I had an online order to return and wanted to buy some leggings. I don't live nearby, it's a 30-minute drive. I will stick with Sports Basement! The store was clean and tidy. That's the best I can say about this in-store experience. I was waiting to be helped at the register and the gentleman at the register gruffly told me to go the a specific register. No problem. Lack of customer service skills was noticeable- no greeting, no excuse me when he left the register or helped a gentleman who brought up a cooler after me. If so, he does such an amazing job running the store with his positive attitude and heart warming welcoming inside the store. He's like the Mr. Rogers for dicks sporting good. This man will not let you down.He helped me replace my yeti water bottle. Long story short, the mouth piece was impossible to take off, so I got an exchange. Review for online order and in-store pickup: Got a good deal online recently and had purchase set to pickup in store. Rolled into a parking spot, saw directions and decided to try to notify them by online method. Went into Dicks app and nothing there to notify. Had to go to my purchase email and go thru that to let them know I arrived, 1 simple button, then has a message that someone will be out soon. Waited 10 min and then saw an employee bring something to another car. Asked them to help and 5 min later got my stuff. Not as quick or efficient as I would have hoped but did work and got the right stuff. Would try it again. Haven't been inside store yet. read more

Even though online shopping has taken over and ruined our active lives, I still enjoy going to sporting good stores to see what are the hottest items. As I was about to walk in, I see many of the hottest items currently in the store front display. With Sunnyvale having a humid temperature, this store has a very powerful air condition throughout the entire store. And the AC does feels good too. When you walk in, the center have the latest apparels for all genders. The right side have golf, tennis, gym and swimming needs. The left side has the all team sports need, and departments for camping and other outdoor activities, including a small gun section (NRA-approved). On that same outdoor section, there is a big Yeti section, which the hottest company right now. So, invest that company's stock. As I was at that section for a long time and salivating like a dog by looking at each Yeti product, I see a lot of associates walking around and ignoring me without greeting me or how I was doing. Maybe each of them thought I was a total lunatic(?) However, I did calm my ass down and eventually bought one of the cool Yeti Tumblers for $30.00. I love Yeti products and still enjoy window-shop at sporting good stores. Even for a corporate chained business, the staff at this store needs to greet their customers and make them feel welcome. read more

I went to return the shoes I bought a week ago, a female store associate told me 'you can't return because it has some dirt on it' OK fine I wore it once so I said 'can I return it after cleaning that small dirty area? Because it really hurts my feet.' Then she said 'No, you can't, it's not resellable because it had dirt on it!' -EXCUSE ME? Common sense: dirts are everywhere. So basically she is telling me I can't wear it anywhere if I want to return it. OK, maybe DICKs is not training their employees well. So I asked her to give me her store manager's email. And she became very impatient and said it's PRIVATE INFORMATION that I shouldn't ask for. OMG, DICKs really just grabbed someone from the street and gave her a job. I went to Dick's Sporting Goods to buy Nike running shoes. They had a large selection of Nike shoes and many other brands. There seemed to be only one employee working the shoe department, but he was very helpful, even though he was busy. He can scanned the bar code on the shoes that I wanted and was able to let me know the shoe was available in my size (or not available, except in a different color). The store is very large and clean and there was a nice selection of clothing and other goods. Check out was easy. I tend to shop online for many items, but it's nice to be able to try on shoes and clothes, so I am glad this nice store is nearby. read more

I arrived at 8:55 for the store that opens at 9 am looked through the door and saw at least 5 workers in green shirts eagerly awaiting to open for business. The doors opened on time and once in the store I walked to the camping section and had a question but to my surprise there wasn't any green shirts around. I then went to the restroom walking by the shoes and there was a customer looking at shoes with his young child. When I entered the men's restroom expecting it to be nice and clean since the store opened only 5 minutes earlier, but no it was a disgusting mess. When I left the restroom the man with the child tried to flag me down thinking I worked there. I decided to leave the store and on the way out I looked for a green shirt employee but did see a single worker and only saw the cashier. We had gone to the latter looking for shin guards and shoes last night .... 5 different associates clueless and not interested in helping us and inventory severely lacking. Super frustrating. Walked into Dicks today and I swear I heard angels singing. Clean, bright, happy and engaged employees, diverse and quality merchandise. So many choices and outstanding service. Worst customer service ever, we went in with the intentions of purchasing two Schwinn adult bikes. Found the two we wanted along w a bunch of accessories. Rang the button for help in the Bike section. A female employee walks up after waiting for what felt like forever and asked if we needed something from the bike case. We said no that we wanted two bikes from the upper racks and the floor rack. Looking annoyed, she proceeded to call someone over her headset to come assist us. After about 10 mins I went looking for staff bc at this point we waited 25 mins if not longer for help. I found the same female employee and told her we were still waiting. So she calls on her headset again and someone supposedly was heading over... we waited another 5 mins then decided to leave. What a joke. I understand the understaffing and having to be patient but damn the employees here didn't give a shit that roughly about $2k just walked out the door today. So disappointed by the lack of customer service. The same female was just folding shirts so I'm not sure why that was more important than helping us. My husband easily could have brought the bike down from the second rack if she could have unlock the chain and really gave us some attention to which bikes we wanted. read more
