I've had a lot of almond chicken over the decades, and this was probably the worst. It was very sweet and covered with the gravy ahead of time and smashed together with the rice. Usually when you get almond chicken, the gravy is on the side and you can pour it on as you need it. Additionally, it is more of a savory flavor and not sweet. Also, I'm not used to having the gravy and the chicken smashed together with fried rice. Additionally, I'm used to crunchy noodles when I order a side of egg drop. Zero. Maybe this is normal in Monroe but as a Detroiter, it's unusual. I don't think I will go back. read more

I've been patronizing Lichee Garden for over 40 years. The food and service is stellar. These days it's carry out only which is great bc you just call ahead and your food is ready when you pick it up. The portions are huge. I recommend the egg foo young and also sweet and sour chicken. I was able to eat several meals from one order as the portions were so large. Also they have the best egg rolls I have ever eaten! read more

We came all the way from Wyandotte, not knowing this place was carry out only (it doesn't indicate that on Yelp). When we walked in, the lady seemed like she was annoyed that we came in. Ordered our food (beef broccoli, almond chicken combination, a quart of rice, and a couple egg rolls). After driving around trying to find a park to eat at, we found that the rice was over cooked and soggy, the beef broccoli tasted more like pot roast, and my baby wouldn't even touch the chicken. Ended up throwing more than half of our $60 order away. We used to go to this place in Wyandotte when it was there, for many, many years. They were always so welcoming and the food was always great. Sad to say that this is not the same. I'm not sure if it was an off day or what, but just the looks of annoyance from the older woman taking our order is enough for us to not try again. read more

First time at Lychee Garden. The worst chinese food I have ever had. I had the General Tsos and my wife had beef and broccoli. The chicken dish was just soggy breaded chicken with an inedible sauce, that was too sweet and poorly flavored. The beef dish also had a horrible sauce. Neither of us could eat the dinner and ended up giving it to the dogs. We also had egg rolls which tasted old and stale and stuffed with only bean sprouts. The service was good and the lady that took our order was friendly but unfortunately that does not make up for the poor quality of the food. Will drive the extra distance to Jing Chuan or China Club. read more

Absolutely wonderful. Truly. We were a party of 20+ people who were ready to order at 7 something. They close at 8. We admittedly were THOSE people. The reason we decided to be "those people" is that we had spent two days driving up from Florida for the burial of a loved one and all the Michigan-born family members could talk about was how much they missed Lichee Garden (especially the egg rolls!). I felt absolutely awful for the fact that we ended keeping them way beyond closing time, but they were nothing but hard-working, courteous, and helpful. It was a man and a woman - just two people - who managed to take care of us all. I cannot imagine what was going through their heads about us, but they handled the situation with nothing but grace. Now - the food - WOWIE! They are GREAT cooks. My shrimp and lobster sauce was a much darker color than I am used to, but it was the best I have ever had by far. The taste was amazing. It was also my boyfriend's first time there and he said his general Tso's was also the best he has ever had. The prices were great. Dinner included soup (yummy chicken soup with dumplings!), egg roll (best you'll ever have), bread & butter, dish of your choice, fortune cookie, and almond cookie. I strongly recommended this place for hospitality, taste, quality, and presentation. Plus they sell TY beanies so that means they're the best type of people. read more

This is possibly the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The Pepper Steak was bland, with only beef that tasted like day old roast and green peppers in a gravy-like sauce - no onions or flavor. The General Tso's Chicken was in a brown sauce with red pepper flakes on it, and the Beef Fried Rice was rice with beef gravy mixed through with pieces of the same beef as the pepper steak. Even the fortune cookies were soggy! Never going back -- if this is the best you've had, you've never had Chinese food. read more

I have always loved Lichee Gardens. We went to the one in Wyandotte for over 40 years. Now that they're closed, we only have one place to go, to the Monroe Lichee's. Best Chinese food I've ever had. I've lived in California for 10 years and Arizona for 2 years. Never found Chinese food that even came close to Lichee's. Their egg roll and plum sauce are to die for. Their almond chicken is the best! This is the ONLY place to go for great Chinese food. See you later today, Lichee's! read more

An update...My boyfriend and I went here yesterday, originally we had decided on fish. The last minute we changed our minds and went here instead. It's always been very consistently good. We ordered the "dinner for two" I have to say the only thing on par was the egg rolls on this day. This was never a hit & miss type restaurant before. Sorry to say, yesterday ruined it for us. I'll give em two stars for the wonderful egg rolls, but that's about it. What a disappointment :( read more

Great place, great food, great portions, and great prices. When I worked in Monroe, I went here at least once a week, usually two. Now that I live and work in Ohio, I make it a point to stop in every time I'm in even the general vicinity. Admittedly I always get the Kung Pao Chicken and chicken noodle soup, but I've never been let down. read more
