Stopping here for Christmas dinner while traveling to Michigan is becoming a new tradition. Most everything else is closed. Great food, fast service and very friendly staff make it a great stop. Portions are large enough to split too.

Im not usually one to complain but after paying $17 for an order of general tsos chicken with white rice and a drink, I was expecting a lot more than very chewy chicken that is barely coated in the sauce. Not a single piece was actually coated in sauce it was just a little bit on each piece with all the sauce at the bottom of the container. Imagine you were going to make your own general tsos chicken but you fell asleep after you fried the chicken and it was sitting on the counter for a few hours so you put in in the microwave and throw it on top of warm sauce. Very chewy and old tasting and they didn't toss it in the sauce at all maybe one lazy toss. I'm actually super disappointed and this is hands down the worst general tsos chicken I've ever had. Absolutely no effort was put into making this dish which is crazy because I feel like this is the most simple and easy thing to make at a Chinese restaurant. It's just chicken and sauce like how can you mess up that bad?? Panda Express orange chicken is 100x better than this. Also keep in mind they said it would take 15 minutes to make as I was already about 15 minutes away so it's not like it was sitting there for long at all plus the restaurant wasn't even that busy. NO EXCUSE for this lazy behavior.

We're from Columbus area and though there's a lot of Chinese places it's hard to find a gem like this. Small family owned traditional Chinese restaurant with AMAZING food! Everything we ordered was excellent! Didn't take pics of soup and dumplings but all were great. It looked as if only 2 people were working but they both hustle so show them some grace and don't be in a huge rush.. Enjoy!

My wife and I were in Dundee at the local winery and decided we wanted some Chinese for dinner. We went to Chinese Sizzling because the other Chinese restaurant close by didn't have dine in service. We both ordered combination dinners. I had the almond boneless chicken and szechuan beef. She had chicken and vegetables and general tsao. The meals came with a soup and egg role or crab Rangoon. Both dishes were huge and flavorful. We both had two meals each from our dishes. I will definitely be back.

There are a few things that one should note right off the bat:…read more 1) Ypbor Yan moved buildings a couple of years ago, so old reviews that discus the interior space are very much outdated. 2) Their new sign reads Ypbor FM as they have a *F*ood *M*useum in the entry way, but the "museum" is both easy to overlook and certainly not the main draw of the business. 3) Look at the most popular dishes on Yelp and take many of the reviews with a few grains of salt. Why? This is a Sichuan restaurant, and while they may offer sweet and sour chicken, almond boneless chicken, and whatever other American-Chinese dishes you fancy, those in the know come for the distinctive numbing ma-la spice of the region. Southeast Michigan, being in the midwest, is generally lacking in really traditionally fiery foods. As such, Ypbor was such a delightful change of pace I was tempted to give the place five stars. However, that desire was really about the cuisine and not the execution. The food is good to be sure, I'm going to return again and again, but there are definitely elements that are lacking. While I do not want to linger on the negative, the noodles could be improved, the dan-dan was super wet and more like a soup, and while the salt miner's chicken was fine and I'm glad I tried it once, it's decidedly not a must order dish. That said, the Sichuan poached fish is great. I was also absolutely charmed by the Spicy Chinese Broccoli in a Wok, which while under the vegetable section contains a generous amount of sliced pork belly. Part of the charm was that this was not the "Chinese Broccoli" I was expecting. The broccoli itself was more like traditional broccoli, but white in color. Flavors, textures, and heat were all fantastic. The menu is long, and I'm looking forward to exploring more of it. Perhaps there is a way to make a 5* meal from the options, and nothing would make me happier than to share that with you all at some point down the road. Until then, I recommend checking out the newer, cleaner, friendlier Ypbor, and getting outside of your comfort zone with trying legit Sichuan foods. Just remember, everything is intended for family style eating, so one entree for every two people is plenty. Leftovers are fine, but this food is always better when it's freshly prepared, as opposed to traditional "Chinese Takeout" which some might argue was never really all that great in the first place.

We've been here twice now. None of the dishes disappointed. We order off the authentic menu. They even have a "special" authentic menu that is seen only when you enter the restaurant. I think they are Cantonese. They don't skimp on portion sizes. Dishes are flavorful. Authentic menu is indeed AUTHENTIC. We asked 1 - low salt, 2 - low oil, 3 - no MSG and these preferences were honored. They even called back saying one of the dishes was a bit heavy in oil so that we could potentially order something else. They called us when the takeout order was ready. The Midwest needs more restaurants like these. If I lived closer I would come way more often. Best of all you get this for a very fair price point. It is not the inflationary/expensive price for low-quantity sub-par asian food you see now-adays. Come here if you are near the area. Ambiance is average and unassuming, like most great Chinese restaurants!
