I thought about not writing this review, because I wanted to keep Librae Bakery as my personal secret gem. Unfortunately, the cat's already out of the bag- every time I go there, there are more and more people who've discovered it and are enjoying the awesome baked goodness here, and the line just gets longer. Dammit! Seriously though, Librae is awesome. They have a lot of baked goods that you can't easily find elsewhere in Manhattan bakeries. My personal favorites are the pretzels (both the plain salted and the cheese), which are the tastiest pretzels I've ever had in my life. They're so deliciously bready, chewy, soft, full of that satisfying fresh-baked pretzel flavor. You've got to try them! I've also had their croissants, which are delicious and buttery with perfect layers of lamination that would make Paul Hollywood proud. Their Jerusalem bagel with labneh is also a nice treat, it reminds me of the texture and flavor of a Turkish simit. Next time you're near Noho or the East Village, stop by Librae. You'll be glad you did, trust me. read more

Really wanted to love this place but it just didn't hit the mark. It is a typical instagram-hyped spot. The coffee was good, the pastries were just ok, have had better ones but also had worse. If you're from Europe, you won't be satisfied. For the price you're paying you'd expect something amazing - you're paying for the hype, not quality. I've had much crispier, butterier, flakier croissants all over ny.... On the weekends there's a long line outside and by the time you get in the pastry options can be very limited. The service is great! And deserve 5 starts but since this is an overall review 3 starts it is! read more

This is my favorite bakery in all of New York. Everything I've had has been superlative. The sesame halva croissant was insanely delicious, just dancing on the edge of cloying without ever tipping over. Living in California, I think about it all the time. The flourless chocolate cookie is quite possibly the single best chocolately food item I've ever tasted in my life. I visited Librae this week, and they were sadly out of the rose pistachio croissant. On a lark, I went with the loomi babka. Excellent! And contained some kind of curd in the middle that I hadn't been expecting. Who's mad about secret curd? You can't go wrong at this place, it genuinely is "100% that good," to bastardize a Lizzo lyric. Confidently five stars. read more

I might expect too much because of their viral marketing. I live nearby but already have several French bakery options, so I didn't try them until recently. Their tiny drip coffee is over $4 (usually the size is double at other better coffee shops), and others are also all overpriced. I ordered butter and pistachio croissants, asparagus Danish, and a couple of scones. The flavor is rich and somewhat creative, but it's also not worth the hype, especially if you prefer authentic or local-style French bakery. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, some staff at the counter were playing with their phones-although the bakery is always busy except for late afternoon hours-and not attentive. They didn't know the price of the item I ordered or whether they were served. Please don't be fooled by the line or stylized baked goods when you are in the hood. Librae has incredible pastries, some of the best I have had. I got 3 croissants from them 1. plain croissant: this was given to my by mistake, I normally would not order this. I find plain croissants boring. So I personally would skip this and get a fun croissant which they are known for. 2. chocolate halva croissant: this was so unique and delicious! I've never had a croissant with halva. 3. Halloween special croissant: Oh my god, this was one of the best things I've ever eaten! It was a dark chocolate croissant with an orange cream filling and meringue top. Truly incredible and unique. Hands down this place is special and unique. Loved this place! We got the rose pistachio croissant, the lumee babka, and the chai shortbread. All were delicious and beautiful even not warmed up. The croissant was truly worth all $8. They have adorable small utensils and overall great vibe. My friend got a latte and I didn't try any but I don't think it was anything special. This place was really poppin on a Saturday morning. They had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the space itself was large. I had a hard time deciding what to get but ended up with the pistachio rose croissant based on other reviews. I have to say I'm not too impressed. It's as if baklava and a croissant had a baby, it's very syrupy. I couldn't taste rose or pistachio really, I kept on taking bites, hoping that the next bite would have more flavor, but I gave up on it 2/3 of the way through. It's pretty pricey and comes out to almost $9 with tax. Honestly pistachios are expensive, and the price point isn't that outrageous compared to similar pastries. I would say based on the ingredients the price is warranted, but I personally would not spend $9 on a pastry unless it's out of this world- and it wasn't. read more

We had just come from a disappointing Lafayette, which was sold out of most popular items by 8:45 am. And then we found Librae about a block away! Librae's vibe is friendly and bustling! The locals know this is the place to be and we even got into two different conversations w/ strangers about food recommendations as everything looked delicious! We had the ginger brioche bun, a pistachio croissant and some cardamom coffee. I'm not a big pistachio fan, but that croissant was so buttery and rich. It made me wish we had bought another! We were able to get one of the last croissants at Lafayette and it was pistachio too. So head to head,both were good, but I thought the librae one tasted better as it was fresher and had this amazing crust on top. My sisters loved it too. The ginger brioche had real ginger in it and you could taste the flavor in every bite but it wasn't overpowering. I thought the cardamom latte would be my favorite thing. It was ok, but the cardamom powder settled at the bottom and so the last few sips were kinda chalky. Overall, go to Librae for some great food and baked items with a friendly upbeat vibe! read more

I can't believe I haven't written about my favorite cafe in the city. I love everything I have had so far. It's my go to place now and I am so fond of their pastries and also just the vibe. Their Jerusalem bagel with labneh is SO good. Also their espresso croissant and rhubarb danish are incredible. I wasn't super happy with the pistachio rose croissant, babka or the asparagus ricotta tart, but they were good and I am so glad I tried. This place is pricey but the stuff is good and worth the price. And their sourdoughs are amazing, the seeded ones and also jalapeño, just so good!! Like the cappuccino, matcha hasn't been consistent, so I am not sure about that. But definitely going back again and again for all the baked goodness they have. read more

THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. They made a mistake when I ordered iced sea salt mocha (requested whole milk but gave me one with almond milk). They didn't apologize at all for what happened and just tossed over saying nothing once they made a new one. Update: After they saw my bad-rating review, general manager approached and said she wants to fix the problem. But what was more disappointing was she didn't say sorry or apologize genuinely. The pistachio rose croissant had the perfect balance of crisp, flakey, and flavor. The sweetness was just right. The dill and feta scone was almost like a flakey biscuit with layers of flavor. On my hunt for the best croissant in NYC and Librae is in Top 3. It is very airy and FILLED with pistachio paste inside that could knock you out in a sugar coma for the rest of the afternoon but it's so worth it (unless you need to get actual work done). The rose flavor came through strongly but it was a nice floral taste and aroma add to the seemingly basic pistachio croissants nowadays popping up around the city. Had the halva croissant which weighed quite a bit! It had lots of crispy coconut on the top. The halva filling was nice. I wish they didn't put chocolate filling as I wanted a pure halva pastry. My friend and I were so excited to come try this bakery but we were left less than impressed by the experience and baked goods. They do seem to have a lot of stock with the products but everything we ordered was just ok. The espresso in the pain au chocolat was barely noticeable, and the lamination was ok. Not the best croissant I've had. The sticky bun was the best but we didn't finish it either. The focaccia bread was dry. Nothing really screams delicious and I changed my mind to bring extras back for my kids. (To make a second to go order) the space itself was a good size but not too many seats and so many flies. So many. The pastry case doesn't close so all those flies were landing on the food. Which is why I've given 3 and not 4 stars. I work in food service and it's really not a good look for the DOH. The silverware didn't seem clean and though they were on top of bussing and the staff were nice and friendly, the ambiance has an air of uncleanliness. They know they're popular and food is flying off the counter for sale, the flavor profiles are exciting and the bakery space looks amazing. The atmosphere is really aesthetic. It's such a cute place to come to work or study. The staff are really nice and friendly as well. When I stopped by here around 9am, the line was already out the door. I've heard this place could get really packed. I've heard that they were known for their rosé pistachio croissant, which is what I obviously came here for. However, I wasn't a big fan of it. The croissant was a bit hard and dry. I felt like I couldn't taste the pistachio much, it was more on the lemon flavor side. My husband got the banana pudding muffin and he thought it was phenomenal. read more
