So I passed by this nice cute, hip, and trendy bakery and to my surprise, it has a nice list of drinks that are really affordable compared to a lot of coffee shops these days. Got an iced latte with skim milk and it was pretty good. Place is very quiet and it was somewhat packed. Pretty good place to use your computer to do work and sip coffee. Lots of wood seating and a very industrial feel with high ceilings.

Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon to grab a cardamom bun. It was solid, but the ones at La Cabra (or Otway Bakery, if you're willing to go to Brooklyn) are much better.

One of the best cardamon cinnamon roll I've had so far in NY! The matcha donut was overly sweet for me! Definetly coming back here every time I'm in NY

I popped over to Smør to meet a friend for coffee and a treat. The bakery is a great spot to sit and enjoy a casual bite and a nice coffee. There's a good amount of seating for such a small space with natural light and a good atmosphere. I decided to get an iced latte and an open faced tuna sandwich. I'm a big tuna sandwich fan (especially any option that does not include celery). This one is served on top of sliced sourdough with lettuce, corn, bell pepper, red onion, and dill. It was very good, but not a resounding favorite. It was a bit messy to eat, and I think it had a few too many ingredients. Still a tasty lunch that I wouldn't hesitate to order again.

If you're looking for Cardamom Buns, this is the place! Best one I've had in NYC so far. It's a full experience - the lacey baked dough strips, generous amounts of cardamom paste, the little bits of course sugar topping. Everything that I've read about and try to re-creating at home, but why spend the hours when you can support a small business with $5-6 purchase. The bakery is a bit of a trek from the subway, but a bit easier if you take the L from Union Square/14 Street to 1st Avenue. Would like to explore those avenues more in the future. When I went, in 2024, there was a lot of construction awning covering the business and block, so it was a bit hard to find. Came upon the sister restaurant, Smor, first and had to continue walking down. Upon entering, you're in the cloud of wonderful smells and cozy minimal Norwegian design, lots of plywood colors, a little seating area in the front, and shelves for a small marketplace. There's only a few tables to sit at, maybe more during the warmer months outside. The items that they had for sale on marketplace were well curated, high-quality, and unique; showcasing a lot of small businesses; but I was here for the cardamom buns! And they had plenty. It was late on a Sunday afternoon, so I'm not sure if they usually sell other pastries. But they had plenty of what I was looking for. I don't remember if I also got a cinnamon bun, I think it was okay too. Go here! Get a few and freeze them for a delicious breakfast or snack - or you may just end up eating them all in one week, like I did. So addicting. And isn't cardamom healthy for you? - an Ayurvedic spice. Benefits all around, LOL.

Best cardamom bun in the city. You can't have a bad pastry here, all of it is baked fresh, including their bread loaves. East village was pretty dead on a Friday morning but then I walked past smor and it was packed!! Their brunch items including their avo toast and eggs are also delicious but definitely come for a coffee and a pastry!

Pesto asiago roll

Stopped in on a walk around the neighborhood and the place was full of people working on their laptops or reading. I could see why because the space was airy and sunlit and smelled like bread, an ideal combination. We arrived when they were cleaning the display case so we couldn't get a good look at the items available and there wasn't a menu of the baked goods offered (not uncommon especially in places that change up their menu regularly), but the staff member named a few of the items they had available. I picked a savory option, the pesto asiago roll. It was okay minus a bitter note from the pesto that clashed with the sharpness of the asiago. The laminated dough was good, it had a nice stretchiness that could've been enhanced with a quick reheat. I'll make sure to try some of their other options next time I'm in the area.

I was looking for a bakery in this area, found this place and saw some pictures of the cardamom bun, and was sold. The shop was a lot smaller than I expected and was packed, but I was able to get one of the tables outside. The cardamom bun was as good as it looked, very soft, a little buttery, and pleasantly strong on the cardamom. I got a decaf cardamom latte to go with, which was also great, very smooth and just barely sweet. Wonderful start to my morning.

Nice people, sweet young person at the register! Omg the cardamom bun. Don't miss it if you are in the east village, it can hold its own against any croissant! Coffee was excellent, I went twice on our last visit because I wanted that cardamom bun.

What a great little coffee shop! After enjoying a dinner at Smorgasbord we decided to visit the bakery for breakfast. It's fairly but has seats inside and out (not sure if there's a restroom?), service is at the counter. They have a range of pastries and sandwiches and coffee etc. The coffee is great, strong but smooth and the pastries are fantastic. We had a seasonal donut and a Cardamom Bun. The bun was less doughy than others I have had previously- it had more of a heavy croissant like texture. It was however delicious with a good hit of Cardamom. Staff are friendly, the cafe is light and bright, there's a small variety of groceries to buy (condiments, canned fish etc) and prices are reasonable.

Cute spot! Bakery where a lot of their goods are also made here. Good choices of scones, pastries, and cookies. Coffee very reasonably priced with a latte at $4.50.

Sneaky Smør! . This sneaky bakery tucked away between 1st ave and Ave A has fresh made baked goods with a bit of a Scandinavian twist. This is not your average bakery. Everything here is super fresh and they are constantly making fresh baked goods. . This place has been added to my coffee and sweet/savory pastry rotation. . In short: - Great baked goods and coffee! - I'll be back

((4.5 stars)) Sunny…read moreand Annie's is very much a 24/7 neighborhood gem of a corner store and deli. it's packed with packaged foods--candy, chips, cookies, ice cream, soft drinks, beer, and a lot more plus the deli counter serves ups an endless list of creative sandwiches. i am not going to say this place is cramped but it kinda is. for example, if people stand in the wrong areas of the store, it will cause a complete standstill of a traffic jam in the store. my advice: order from the deli (and stand somewhere people aren't trying to get to) or grab whatever you need, pay, and leave. this place is not a place to linger. keep it moving. anyway, the obvious draw of Sunny & Annie's is the endless list of sandwiches that are handwritten cards that are stuck outside glass of the deli counter. there is literally something for the pickiest eaters--from hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, wraps, and more. some sandwiches are named celebrities, politicians, etc. i have ordered a bunch of different sandwiches and have not made it through much of the menu. you can also create your own Frankenstein monster of a sandwich. while the sandwiches are a big part of the draw, the insane amount of snack foods crammed into the store is quite remarkable from the large stand of Doritos, Takis, Cheetos and other popular branded snack foods in the front to the separate stand of Wise snacks to an entire back corner of the store filled with all kinds of chips, popcorn, etc. imo, Sunny's has the freshest-tasting Smartfood Cheddar Popcorn. i know an insane take consider it's a packaged popcorn snack from a megacorp (PepsiCo), but i'll die on this hill. maybe it's cause Sunny's sells a lot of Smartfood popcorn so it gets refreshed often, maybe they have a secret in/pipelinbe from the factory, or it's just magic/alchemy. i don't know, but the Smartfood Cheddar Popcorn never tastes stale-ish like it does at grocery stores, the bags never feel deflated because they have been on shelf long, and the popcorn never has that soft mouthy feel but still has the crunch to it. maybe it's just me, but Sunny's serves a great list of sandwiches...AND the freshest Smartfood Cheddar Popcorn. beyond the snacks, the service from the deli to cashier is upbeat and friendly. in all seriousness, Sunny and Annie's is an Avenue B institution at this point and remains a charming family-owned store--and is NOT a sterile modern clone of a neighborhood business.

Today, I got a PISILLO panini with ciabatta bread and it was so damn big! I had half of it for lunch and the other half will be saved for my dinner! This panini was just too long and big. I had to open my mouth really wide to take bites out of the big panini and it was annoying. It tasted good though! I love the balsamic dressing, arugula, tomatoes, and bufula mozz cheese the most out of the whole sandwich! The dressing made it really good and soften the ciabatta bread for easier chewing. My poor mouth and teeth! The whole panini cost $22.21 including tax in cash. There was an atm machine by the entrance in case you don't have cash. The whole place was very cozy and tight knit chairs and tables on both sides of the restaurant. The staff was very fast and I got my panini in not time. I did not have to wait that long. I was just amazed at the size of the ciabatta bread. They had many different types of bread that I can try next time like the focaccia, sfilatino, and semolina bread that looked really good behind the display glass. They got 35 different types of panini sandwiches for you to choose from. Most of them contain meat and there are some vegetarian options that are not so pricey. I will try those next time!

There are a handful of tables indoors and outdoors which is great since you can enjoy your warm sandwich immediately. I looooved the Ross sandwich--it came with turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing all in a delicious semolina sub roll. I also got a bottle of the ginger lemonade which was good. If you want a sandwich that earns your loyalty over decades, Parisi Bakery & Deli is that place…read more I've been eating sandwiches here for as long as I can remember, and the remarkable thing is how nothing has slipped--not the quality, not the care, not the magic. Every visit reminds you why Parisi has survived since 1903 while trends and neighbors came and went. Let's talk about The Dennis--the undisputed star and a true signature sandwich. This thing is a monster, built on Parisi's legendary fresh-baked bread that somehow stays crisp, chewy, and perfect no matter how much goodness gets piled inside. You get a crispy breaded chicken cutlet layered with thin-sliced prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, and (if you know what you're doing) roasted red peppers. It's all brought together with their house balsamic blend and basil herb spread/pesto--bright, savory, and completely addictive. I cannot confirm or deny that the sandwich is named after me, but I can confirm it's flawless. Pro tips: * Cash only, old-school rules apply. * Come hungry or plan ahead--this sandwich is big enough to share or save half for later, and it still eats beautifully round two. * Tip the sandwich makers. These folks are artists, and the tip box deserves some love. Beyond the food, Parisi is living New York history. From its origins as an Italian bakery on Mott Street, to feeding generations of locals, to being famously beloved by Frank Sinatra (yes, the bread was shipped to California), this place is woven into the fabric of Little Italy/Nolita. Legends like De Niro and Scorsese are fans, and you can still feel that old-world soul--right down to the original brick oven relic resting in the basement. Parisi isn't just a deli. It's continuity. It's tradition. It's proof that when you do one thing incredibly well for over a century, people keep coming back. And once you've had The Dennis, you will too.
