Croissant is quite greasy Line goes quickly, they have a variety of pastries that are fun to try
I was intrigued by the concept of a Bahraini American bakery, so librae was a must visit on a recent nyc trip. Located around copper square the bakery has lots of light and a few tables (that fill up quickly). The menu options are very unique. I got the rose pistachios croissant which was delicious and perfect in its baked execution, the saffron cookie a very interesting chewy cookie with sesame and saffron, and a coffee. Service is quick. I'd like to come back to try more options!
One of my bakeries to hit on my list because what stood out was the pistachio rose croissant. That was my main reason for coming here.. I was dreaming of eating one lol Pistachio and rose combo, why not ? Two of my faves. The croissant was large, and we shared it amongst the two of us. It was halved and contained a generous amount of pistachio filling. The top had a drizzle of pistachio frosting and a few hints of rose petals. That's as far as the rose flavor went, very minimal. Also, decided to try their carrot cake scone. It was very dense, dry, and had an odd spice flavor. I didn't care for this one too much unfortunately. Friendly service, plenty of indoor seating, interesting unique bakery, little pricey.
The pistachio flavor was so good, and the croissant was super soft and flaky. The bread pudding was also amazing. No seats available inside or outside at 1ish on Sunday, so we just ate quickly near the bar area, but even that place was crowded with people waiting to pick up coffee.
I like to judge how good a place is based on their most basic item. In this case, it is the classic croissant. So I've been to Paris, I've tried the croissants over there. I have tried many croissants in my lifetime. However, this comes right next to the croissants I had in Paris. This was probably the second best croissant I ever had in my entire life. Maybe it was the time of day that I had it, maybe I just got lucky. I like a good, flaky, buttery croissant, a croissant where you can taste the butter. This croissant slapped. It was so buttery that the bottom part of the croissant caramelized a little and it was crunchy. It was also gigantic. I could not finish it in one sitting. When I bit into it, the top layer of the croissant flaked off and kept its shape as it lifted off the body. I was able to peel it off like it was a sheet of paper and continued to eat the croissant like that until I got to the delicious buttery core. It's been weeks since I had this croissant and I'm still thinking about it.
I came to this bakery pretty late in the day, so maybe my review is not a fair evaluation of what the experience could be. When I got there, the options were extremely limited. They did have the famous pistachio rose croissant. The presentation was beautiful! But I found the pistachio taste to be fairly bland and the croissant was bleeding butter/oil everywhere, which overshadowed the experience. I personally love rose flavor, and I did not feel like it came through strongly in the dessert. Lots of space and seating on the inside!
Another trendy bakery, another place that doesn't necessarily live up to the hype. Librae does have quite an eclectic assortment of pastries, think halva croissants, tahini chocolate chip cookies, savory breads and sandwiches amongst their assortment. Surprisingly when I went, there was barely a line, and figured a pistachio rose croissant was in order. Service was quick and efficient and walked out there fast. The croissant itself is quite huge. Plenty of sugary pistachios filled inside and on top. Not a lot of rose flavor sadly. But pistachio lovers will get a kick out of it. The croissant itself was almost candied, it had a very crisp, sugar lacquered exterior. But my gosh, it was so oily. Like I don't know if it was the nuts or the croissant, but a thin sheen of oil was prevalent on my hands while eating. Overall, I do think it's worth a visit if you don't wait in line. But just remember to bring napkins. And sanitizer. Because you'll be wiping your hands a bit!
Blending middle eastern tastes with French pastry, Librae Bakery serves up some creative baked goods! They have a lot of savory options as well with baked goods as well as sandwiches. But after two visits, I can say I'm happy I tried their goodies but I probably won't be returning unless a friend wants to go (or for the halva croissant on the weekends!). While expecting strong flavors based on the descriptions, I feel like the flavors are on the subtle side. - tahini chocolate chip cookie (4/5): a good cookie, with a little chew and lots of puddles of chocolate. I'd probably like it more chilled for a better chew but the flavor was nice-- not super nutty or pronounced on the tahini but the chocolate was nice. - pistachio rose chocolate croissant (3/5): their most viral bake was beautiful on presentation but surprisingly muted in flavor in comparison with how much syrup/oil was dripping off of it. Glad that it didn't taste like rose, but the pistachio part wasn't sweet. Probably great with a drink, but not a very indulgent treat by itself. - halva croissant (5/5): super sweet, creamy, and nutty! Only available on the weekends, and it's a hefty one. Might be a little sweet for most but it was a neat twist on an almond croissant. - espresso pain au chocolate (3/5): tempted by the allure of espresso, this one fell flat since I was expecting a stronger coffee flavor, and it was actually really subtle... had to imagine it, but it was an solid chocolate croissant. - honey cardamom bun (3/5): beautiful and large, but the bread was quite dry. It is plain and simple with cream inside, one to share with friends. I couldn't discern any cardamom :( Haven't tried the savory offerings, but this could be a spot that caters to the whole group easily with such a varied menu. The service was super friendly despite it being so busy both times I visited. There is a self serve water station + seating inside but it's usually full, so there's extra tables + a bench outside.
I'd had this spot on my list for a little while now and it was nice to finally check it out - it was great! The Pistachio Rose Croissant is one of their signature items and I can see why - a perfect croissant with very good servings of pistachios in every bite, while also tasting the subtle flavor of rose. The Tahini Chocolate Chip was a nice surprise with its soft texture, deep dark chocolate chips and the earthy tahini on top that actually works. They had a special Malted Hot Chocolate, which was phenomenal - so good, with very rich, thick and creamy chocolate accented with malt, which added some unique depth. The place is cute and slightly small, so expect take your baked goods elsewhere during popular times.
I have been craving an amazing viennoiserie so if anyone has recs in the city (not BK) plz lmk. I only got the chocolate espresso croissant bc I didn't wanna be obese and because the options didn't really look all that enticing. Normally when I walk into a bakery I walk out w like 3-5 pastries but here, none of them really inspired me. As far as the chocolate croissant I did really enjoy the flavor and the flakiness of the pastry. It was also chocolate heavy but not too sweet. Idk if I will go back but probs not. Still on the hunt for smthing like the Fondry in LA
With a line out the door, this definitely warrants a try. The smell exuding from this place is tremendous. The atmosphere is inviting and the line out the door sealed my fate. That's where the glazing stops. I ordered the Rose Pistachio Croissant and Dirty Chai Sticky Bun, which looked wonderful. The prices for each item are definitely not cheap. At almost $10 a piece, this had better knock my socks off. It is definitely overrated. Pause. It is definitely good, but for the wait and price I endured, it wasn't mind-blowing. The texture of the croissant is average. It is crunchy outside but not as fluffy as I'd imagined inside. Perhaps that is intentional? The sticky buns were sticky, but the bun was too much. The uneven balance left me desiring more of the glazing per bite, which ruined the experience. At least it's not overly sweet. Just ok for me.
Confounded by how bland the tahini chocolate chip cookie is. That's kinda all I have to say. I kept eating it, desperately searching for flavor, and literally scratching my head trying to understand how this is what such a hyped bakery is presenting us with...texture=cakey, flavor=unroasted sesame, depth=none to be found, heart + soul=empty.
Oh my GOD the Smoked Salmon Sandwich is to die for. That's it. That's the review. Go here. Get it. Enjoy it. And go back for more. Also - the pastries are insane and the croissants and Babkas are WOAH. 10/10.
Let me tell you that my expectations for the pistachio rose croissant were through the roof. I've heard too many good things and wondered how a croissant could change your life. But when I tell you this croissant CHANGED MY LIFE - I'm not exaggerating. The pastry itself was so flakey, just perfect. And the pistachio filling - I'm not even the biggest pistachio fan and I was drooling all over this thing because it was so damn delicious. I never would've thought myself a rose flavor fan but one bite of this croissant converted me. I cannot do it justice by explaining what it tasted like - just go try it. I cannot explain how good it felt to eat this croissant - i was so ready to be mad because it cost $9. But for this croissant they can take all my money TLDR: go try the pistachio rose croissant, it actually changed my life. read more
The tuna sandwich is amazing--the sumac onions, lemony dressed kale, and sourdough bread are just perfection! I also like their scones, both the sweet and savory ones, a lot. Their seasonal hot chocolate was amazing last year but I don't know if it's coming back this year. If you go on a weekday there is hardly a line. Weekends are a bit nuts. read more
Maybe a skosh overrated. Waited on line, which moves fast (so don't be intimidated if you're waiting outside). They don't have a TON of options but I'll say everything they do have is aesthetically beautiful. Went with a pistachio rose croissant, which again looked beautiful but was a bit lackluster. I wish there were a bit more creaminess to the topping as it seemed a bit thicker than I would expect. Also ordered an Americano which took a strange amount of time to receive (and the space is not designed for people to be able to stand around). Ultimately, an interesting hype and worth taking a picture inside with your pastries but probably wouldn't need to go back. read more
Another great bakery in the neighborhood! It's almost unfair to my waist line that I live by this, Supermoon, Petit Chou and La Cabra. I've been here three times. I had to come back again after the Infatuation post in which the majority of the writers chose Librae bakery as having the best croissants. This past week I came twice. I liked the chocolate croissant and the pistachio one as well. What really knocked things out of the park were the scones. The fig and fennel scone was to die for. It was soft, buttery, and crispy with enough savory dispersed throughout. We also had the sweet salted scone today which was amazing. read more
Greetings from someone who has just tried one of the BEST pastries of their life: the limited edition double chocolate hazelnut knot. Its a NYFW special, so it comes in a chic box and is topped with edible pearls. The flaky croissant dough on top, coupled with the rich black cocoa flavor is the perfect treat for chocolate lovers. It's available until Feb 14! We got the pistachio rose croissant, which melded the two flavors superbly. I have full confidence that anything this bakery produces is going to be top-notch. If anyone asks me where they should get pastries in NYC, I'm guiding them straight to Librae Bakery. read more
Amazing bakeries are in abundance throughout the country and certainly in NY but in my opinion, Librae is churning out some of the best and most innovative baked goods right now. If you don't believe me, go check it out yourself. Even Bon Appetit recently named them among the best bakeries in the country right now. Why is it so good? First, the quality. So good they can rival any other famous bakery out there. But beyond the quality, this Bahraini owned bakery lives up to their self designation of being a "third culture" bakery. You'll find Middle Eastern flavors and ingredients throughout their pastries and the results are not only delectable, they are downright picture perfect. My advice? Come early, come with a friend. Order as much as you can and make sure to get a box to go. Repeat. read more
Quite possibly the best croissant I will have in NYC and one of the most delicious babkas that have ever graced this earth. The pistachio rosewater croissant was like the lovechild between a ruffled Roccoco croissant born in the halls of Versailles and a floral baklava that romps in rose gardens and eats pistachio Turkish delights at teatime. The babka was like walking into your Middle Eastern grandmother's kitchen: yeasty, buttery, sticky and sweet. The dried lime salt sprinkled on top was like a breath of desert air-- h e a v e n l y. The lemon curd was creamy, but a little too sweet, but what's a babka without enough butter and sugar to make Marie Antoinette cry tears of joy? The espresso pain au chocolat and croissant was respectable as well, shatteringly crisp but ultimately a little too dense and oily inside. After reading some other reviews, heavier pastries seems to be a theme--I personally have no problem with that, but I know many people prefer lighter baked goods. read more
I came here on a Tuesday afternoon around noon. It wasn't busy, but there are only around 6 small tables inside, so it was difficult to get a seat. I ordered a cortado and salmon sandwich, and took a loomi babka to go. Everything was excellent, and it really seemed like a lot of craftsmanship went into everything. My only annoyance (which was not the problem of the cafe) was that people were at the tables with their laptops working after they had finished their food. Since it is such a small space, I felt like this was inconsiderate to other patrons. Nonetheless, I'd come back, but just for pastries to go. read more
Librae had the best scone combination of flavors I've had in a while. The chamomile scone with rhubarb topping was gorgeous to look at and incredibly soft on the inside and subtle in its sweetness. I could order 5 of these. As soon as you walk in, it smells like a full on pastry shop. Every possible freshly baked pastry scent dances in the air from their enormous kitchen and makes you feel like you must buy at least three different pastries to join. The downsides: the matcha drink I got was mediocre and not worth the price for 7.50 and some of the pastries are much higher priced than I'd like (around 7 and up), compared to to other pastry shops that have similar quality and taste. read more

The pistachio rose croissant was the star of the show - warm, flakey, and balanced. The focaccia was nothing special but still yummy. Latte was solid but again didn't stand out I would come back here and recommend coming on a weekday read more

I heard really good things about Librae Bakery's rose croissants, so naturally I had to try one for myself. It was extremely crowded, with every seat being occupied, so if you want to come here for work I would suggest coming at a very early time in hopes of snagging a table before someone else beats you to it. I had to stand near the counter to eat it, but the croissant made the otherwise inconvenient experience worth it. The croissant had a decent level of sweetness and was crisp and flaky, which does cause it to be messy if you're trying to split it with another person but is otherwise rather nice. Overall the opportunity to have this croissant was a pleasant one, and I would not mind returning for it again or to try one of their other pastries. read more
Don't let the line fool you this place is overhyped (as most tik tok viral spots). I walked into this place after wanting to try for so long but walking away after seeing a line outside. On this rainy Friday I was the second person ordering at the counter after walking in. Quick and easy! They didn't have many baked goods options and I asked which one they recommended. Chocolate hazelnut? sticky bun with a hot Breakfast tea was the final choice (didn't taste any hazelnut that's why the question mark). It tasted like an old mall Cinnabon with thick frosting that's on cupcakes at Safeway, altogether too sweet and dense. It was one of the worst I've had in a whiiiile. There's so many amazing bakeries in my neighborhood and they don't come close to compare to them at all. Skip please! read more

The feta dill scone was DELICIOUS! Bustling inside the shop but service was swift. I was planning to just pick goods up and leave which worked out, because there was no seating to be found. read more

I got the rose pistachio croissant and loomi babka because of the reviews and the server said the loomi was his favorite. They were both okay. Shared both with a friend for breakfast and we didn't want to finish them. The croissant was a little dry. Nothing to rave about. Would I get them again or recommend them to a friend? Nah. They were both forgettable and not worth the wait or price. read more
I came back to retry their other things. I was astounded by how delicious that pistachio rose croissant was! Wow! One of the best pistachio rose croissants I have ever had. I tried it a few days ago & came back today to get some more. I also tried their latte and ginger molasses cookie. Their latte was so delicious, truly a good cup of latte with regular milk! So delicious and it warmed my soul! The ginger molasses cookie was very good and it paired well with the latte. I was so happy to come here for a coffee dessert break. Staff was very friendly and nice. A lot of their products were sold out, so come before 10am. read more

Librae Bakery is a Bahraini female owned bakery which is really neat! I found that the pastries were expensive, even with respect to being in NYC. Unfortunately, we did not find any seating. The space is big enough to include more tables I feel. Chocolate Croissant - flaky, big and high quality chocolate! read more
I didn't love the famous rose and pistachio croissant as much as I hoped I would. The croissant was very good, and I wish I'd got a plain one. The pistachio was really oily and while delicious made this pastry rather more greasy than I'd have liked. Also had a tea, which came in the tiniest of teacups. I was fortunate enough to snag a table. There are also a few benches outside and some seating in Cooper Square nearby for those who choose to grab and go. Friend got a tahini cookie which she didn't finish. Me though. I ate the whole damn pastry, despite my complaints here, LOL read more
＊ Pumpkin Pie Sticky Bun Seasonal pastry alert! Whipped with beautiful swirls of torched marshmallow frosting, the bun dough was brushed with shiningly golden pumpkin purée. It had a crunchy graham cracker base. The bun was flavored with a subtle hint of spiced chai. It wasn't too sweet, but I thought the pumpkin flavor would be stronger. It undoubtedly looked divine in photos, yet the texture was a bit too dense and dry for my liking. Sorry to say that but it was my least favourite pastry from Librae... ＊ Everything Pretzel Real ones order the pretzels. Recommended by a friend, I've been wanting to grab their pretzels but they are always gone when I go after noon. I had a hard time choosing between everything, salt and cheese flavors. The pretzel was bursting with everything seasoning flavors! It was chewy with a slightly crisp outer layer like bagels. I didn't know I could ask for labneh mustard on the side. It must be a sign to try their pretzels again. ＊ Pistachio Cardamom Latte I rushed to Librae with excitement when I saw they launched this new seasonal drink. It smelled heavenly with cardamom spice, tasted light and slightly sweetened. I enjoyed every sip of it and will definitely order it again when it's still available. read more
The espresso pain au chocolate was delicious - the filling was sweet with an ever so slight bitterness (I'm assuming from the espresso) to balance out the sweetness. The rose pistachio croissant is a must. I'm not a huge rose flavored anything kinda girl but this was great. It's more pistachio forward with just a hint of rose. There's a generous amount of filling inside and the croissant is just so buttery, flaky, and sweet -- perfect pastry to go with your coffee. read more
Came here on a Saturday morning and there were people on laptops taking up seats so we couldn't sit down. Pastries are good but can be too sweet at times. We ordered the halva croissant and pistachio croissant which were both sweet. We also ordered the latte and the chai latte. The latte was good but the chai latte...was the worst I've ever had. It literally tasted like water with a hint of cinnamon. $6 for a cup of water. We asked to add more chai but it seems like it came from an industrial sized jug so it was not home made. What a shame. read more
A NY friend brought us here as we were walking from Chinatown all the way back to mid town......and decided to take a break. I would best describe this as a cute little neighborhood bakery cafe that local residents like to pop down/over to to sit, have a freshly brewed coffee, enjoy some freshly baked pastries, and just browse their phones, do work on their laptops, or just daydream. The pastry offerings are limited, but here, quality way overtakes quantity....and you can watch the bakers in the back room (through the windows) busily prepping and baking their goodies. So, you can be sure everything you see out front is 100% freshly baked hot and fresh. We even kind of embarrased ourselves by asking if we could get one of the pastries we saw just being taken out from the oven, but were promptly informed by the staff behind the counter that everything we saw was just freshly just-out-of-the-oven.....ok then! So, we went ahead and ordered an Expresso Pain Au Chocolat and the really interesting, attractive, and different looking Pistachio Rose Croissant....that everybody on here seems to be highly recommending. Daaaaaaang! Absolute heaven! So freshly hot with a wonderful light crisp on the outsides and yummy soft and fluffy insides.....Now this is what a perfect croissant tastes like! Not the cheap supermarket bakery type croissants that are often dry and full of air on the insides.....these just had a good and satisfying bite to them from inside out. The filling that really stood out to me was the absolutely delicious pistachio marzipan, with real chopped pistachio nuts.....nothing fake, nothing artificial.....just a bit sweet for my tastes, but oh so delicious nonetheless, and will leave diet conscious individuals like myself feeling so so guilty!....for a few hours anyway. Other than that, everybody enjoyed these wonderful pastries with their hot coffees. read more
I came here on a day off & tried the pistachio rose croissant & a iced latte. Both were very delicious! I was surprised at how good that pistachio rose croissant was! It was crunchy, savory, sweet, buttery - tons of flavors! The iced latte was good quality & I enjoyed it very much. There were a few seating inside & outside. Staff was also very friendly and attentive. I really recommend their pistachio rose croissant as I have never eaten something like this before. read more
Librae was worth the hype. I was worried about it being overhyped, but the pastries were incredible. The flavors were not over powering and I loved their twists on the modern pastries. The pistachio and rose croissant had an amazing amount of pistachio. The coffee white chocolate cookie was also good and not overly sweet. read more
I've had Librae Bakery bookmarked for some time now. In addition to viewing Librae's posts on Instagram and over hearing people talking excitedly about going to Librae Bakery while riding the R train. I decided to check out their website: "Librae Bakery is a labor of love from every corner to every layer of croissant. Located at 35 Cooper Sq in the East Village, and is a Third Culture Bakery influenced by flavors from the Middle East using fermentation techniques from Copenhagen.* We take pride in being the first ever Bahraini female owned bakery in one of the most energizing cities in the world." Today I found myself in the East Village and decided to hop on over to Cooper Square. I entered and Librae was filled with patrons. I reviewed the menu and decided on the Heirloom Tomato with herbs sandwich but it was sold out. I then decided on the Tuna Sandwich with red onions on sourdough bread. For drink, I chose my usual Chai Latte. I found an outdoor table to sit at and waited for my order. I took a sip on my iced chai and noticed a hint of cardamom? It was delicious. The tuna sandwich on homemade sourdough bread was a nice surprise.. I love tuna, I know it's a fish..but.. don't enjoy it overly fishy. Librae's tuna is herbed with sumac onions and dressed with kale. It's absolutely scrumptious and filling. As for their desserts there are delicious options/ Rose pistachio croissant, Loomi babka bun, Esoresso pain au chocolat and pear cheese Danish and savory options such as Spinach Artichoke Danish and a feta dill scone. I look forward to trying these delectable treats in the future. If you are a diner who is opened to tasting some truly exhilarating savory and sweet treats, Librae is the place. *Ahh you noticed: Copenhagen strikes again! Librae is probably my favorite bakery in NYC right now. I visited twice in a week (there was a line out the door both times, but it moved pretty quickly) and tried: + Pistachio rose croissant + Mango saffron sticky bun + Tahini Chocolate chip cookie + Herb tuna sandwich + Summer floral tea + Croissant + Loomi babka The pistachio rose croissant was the best croissant I've had in recent memory. The plain one is also incredible. Also loved the loomi babka and tuna sandwich... you truly can't do wrong here. Both times I visited, the rye baguette eluded me, so I'll try to get there earlier next time before they sell out. read more

sweetness overload! I'm not one to go to places more than once, and not too sure if I would come back, but I'm glad I came and tried everything I wanted to! Came at 8:30am on a Friday morning and it was already packed (1 hour after opening!) There was also only 1 ginger molasses cookie left which I snagged. Here is everything I tried: - Pistachio Rose Croissant (7/10): This is what I came here for. The first bites were immaculate. the croissant is so flakey with rich pistachio filling and rose syrup. I can see how this croissant can get heavy if you were to eat the whole thing yourself, but half was great to enjoy :) - Feta and Dill Scone (3/10): I would not get this. It looks so much more flakey on instagram, but in reality, the flavors of the feta and dill are very unevenly distributed where some bites are way more salty than others, and the scone itself was also more doughy than flakey - Ginger Molasses Cookie (8/10): My favorite cookie! Crispy yet soft on the inside with a nice molasses flavor. Just wished they warmed it up - Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookie (6.5/10): Also wish they warmed this up a bit. This cookie was nice and soft though, and I loved the touch of salt! - Loomi Babka (7.5/10): Very soft and I loved the tangy lemon curd. The bread was so soft! Just wish it was a bit more warm. - Bread Plate (8/10): Honestly loved this bread plate. Wish it was a bit more warm, but the seeds and grains in the bread made it so delicious paired with the salted butter! - Pistachio Cardamom Latte (4/10): Honestly was not the biggest fan of this latte. A bit overboard on the pistachio read more
In a city full of amazing bakeries, Librae still manages to stand out and delight the senses. As someone who doesn't like their baked goods to be overly sweet I really appreciated the Levantine flavors that Librae beautifully blends into all its offerings. The standout on my most recent visit was the peach and goat cheese danish. The flavors were perfectly balanced and the danish layers were crispy, light and fresh! Can't wait to come back and try more soon. read more

Every time that I've been to Librae, the place has been absolutely packed and it's been so amazing to see how supportive the community has been of this coffee shop. That also means that if you want to try their coffee cardamom soft serve, it may be sold out by the time that you get there! This place has even been packed on a rainy summery Saturday. Every pastry that I've tried has been delicious although their mango saffron cinnamon bun has made me realize that with cinnamon buns, all I want is the frosting and Librae's frosting is delicious! Still on a mission to try that coffee cardamom soft serve. read more

Love this spot for pastries, especially the pistachio rose croissant! It's massive and pretty oily (I think from the butter) so it isn't the easiest to eat. However, I think that it is so true to the genuine flavors of rose and pistachio. I also have had the dill feta scone which was good but def way too much to eat at once. I also got a slight stomachache from that. Not sure why (not lactose intolerant). The prices are a bit high for pastries but I can see why the quality makes up for it! read more
FOUND MY FAVE CROISSANT PLACE IN NYC! I've been on a quest to try out all the popular croissant places in nyc, and after trying out about 10 places, Librae is currently my favorite one. I would recommend getting the plain croissant! It's so fluffy, but still chewy and crispy enough to perfection! I love a croissant that has a bouncy texture. This is exactly that. I prefer the plain croissant over the chocolate one, which was pretty chocolate-y and very rich! Cute interior ambiance that would be good for studying or just catching up with friends. Highly recommend checking this place out! read more
