Decent coffee spot in Chelsea. The interior of the shop is spacious, clean, and has lots of seating for you to get your work done at or catch up with friends/coworkers/etc. Service is nice. I just got a simple black coffee and it was pretty decent. The only problem that I had was that their menu on the wall wasn't up to date and my coffee ended up being more expensive than I thought (not a big deal, but I just wish that they had accurate prices). read more

If you need a coffee fixing this is the place, but for good coffee I would recommend exploring the other spots in the area. Popped in here to grab an iced coffee for a mid-day pick me up and hopefully use the space for a work meeting. I was pleasantly surprised to see that 100% of the cafe was occupied by laptops. If you wfh it can be discouraging when coffee shops don't allow you to use the space for meetings and have more of a grab and go model. This wasn't the case here and I was happy to snag a corner table, charge my cpu, and take a meeting with ease. Great ambiance with classical music playing. The coffee is indeed strong. I asked for their iced coffee flavor options and while they only have vanilla the barista was able to make me a mocha iced coffee with almond milk. It was under $7 which isn't bad for the quality. Super sweet at first but once I mixed it up it was excellent. The after work crowd was intense but the staff got them in and out quickly. Overall a great experience and I'll keep it on the list for whenever I'm in the area. read more

I've passed by Variety Coffee Roasters a few times during my stay in Chelsea. It looked like a cute and simple cafe, and there were always a ton of people inside. While running errands on Saturday morning, I finally popped in for an iced dirty chai. The staff member who rang me up was not that friendly. She gave me a blank stare when I went up to order. After I paid, she left me hanging there as I wasn't sure if my payment went through or if she needed anything else. I actually had to ask her if I was good, because I could see a couple of folks joining the ordering queue. Such an odd interaction because of how uncommunicative the employee was. I kind of love this coffee shop. We were looking around for a place to read in the late afternoon while I was using up my remaining days off for the year. Not gonna lie, every coffee shop in Chelsea was busy during the holidays and still is busy. I guess that work from home life is treating everyone nicely. Finally found room at this spot and not sorry about it. They have a simple non gimmicky coffee/tea menu at super affordable prices. A regular coffee is only $3! And the cherry on top of that is that I can put any freaking milk in it I want for FREE! They place their milk options off to the side on the counter along with syrups and sugar packets. I indulged in some oat milk because this coffee was strong. I think I had heard of it before because they're a chain. They also have chargers on the tables that are closest to the wall with the booths. It was nicely decorated for Christmas. Little weird on the music selection because it was like crappy loud punk or alternative rock music. Kind of a little too wired music for chilling out. Came here for a quick decaf coffee to kill some time and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their decaf. I've had variety coffee at its other locations and they do a solid job. Lots of little tables, and calm ambiance to get some reading or work done. The tables are close together. The service was good - the guy at the counter was very friendly. Variety coffee is an ol' reliable in the city so you can't really go wrong. They do a solid job, though the title of "best coffee places in NYC" goes to others, in my opinion. However, I would much rather go here than Starbucks or Dunkin to get my espresso/coffee fix. They also have some tea options as well. The nearby CRUMBL just opened as well, so maybe grab yourself a coffee to cut the intense sweetness of those cookies. read more

We started our trip towards dinner one afternoon and it was blazing hot out. I decided to search up some coffee places and this place was highly recommended. So we did what any proper person would do, we dropped into this coffee shop to get some iced coffee and water. The place has really cool vibe inside. I realize now that I didn't take any pictures of it but I really like the floors here for whatever reason. Staff are super friendly. Placed our order and at the end of the counter is a water jug. There are plenty of tables to sit around and enjoy getting out of the heat for a little bit. It was nice this place wasn't rammed or small and just a take out counter. Ice coffee was decent. Honestly very mediocre coffee given all the rave reviews. Coffee was bland and tasteless in our iced lattes. I was not a fan of the self service vanilla syrup at the station, the bottle which was unlabeled and basically empty save 4-5 drops. The guy at the barista counter half heartedly offered to refill the syrup bottle which I declined. Nowhere to sit inside as tables were filled with folks working at laptops. Forgettable experience, and one of the last place coffee places I've been to in New York. read more
