I walked in needing a quick coffee pick me up and a place to sit for a couple minutes. I came early enough that there were tables available, although it's a small space. I ordered the iced latte with honey and a plain croissant. I didn't come in with any prior knowledge and learned there's no syrups or sweeteners available other than simple syrup or honey. I went with honey hoping it would sweeten my drink enough but it wasn't the best for me. If you enjoy no frills coffee and plain espresso this is the place for you. Super disappointed with this cafe. I came in with high hopes but left with nothing but disappointment. I ordered a small iced matcha latte with almond milk (they only have oat and almond milk for milk options) and it came out to $7.08. The price baffled me. I asked if they took student discount because most cafes in this area do, and the cashier gave me a nasty face and said no. So considering how overpriced it was I expected the matcha to be so good. The matcha tasted like nothing but almond milk. There wasn't a hint of matcha flavor. I asked the baristas if they could add more matcha powder and they gave me a horrible attitude and said it would be $1 more. To pay $8 for a subpar matcha is crazy. The small iced latte was $6 and even that was underwhelming, the coffee was light and the milk overpowered it. I don't have anything positive to say about this cafe. If you're in the area looking for good quality and good coffee, stop by Gotham. The name of the coffee shop first caught my eye (and it's also right next to my work place) - seriously though, stop by. This is the best coffee shop I've found in Manhattan so far that sells quality black coffee that doesn't rip you off. I got the pour over ($5 for 10-12 oz. for any single origins, I believe?) which is a great price for the area. They rotate their single origins, so you can definitely try different coffees here and there. The barista recommended the "Mexico - Luis Ordoñez - Finca La Piedra" which I thoroughly enjoyed. It has a light acidic after taste of fruits (nothing too juicy or citrusy). I think it has some cocoa notes? Not sure. Anyway, it was very good, definitely try it out. I'll probably stop by later to grab a bag of beans because I thought their coffee quality was good. I'd want to try a cortado or a macchiato next time! read more

Solid coffee shop located in the Flatiron district. It's a small place with 4-5 tables inside to study or chill out with a drink and bite to eat or a couple tables outside as well. The hubby ordered a hot almond milk mocha which was well made and went down very smoothly. We also ordered a peanut butter cookie that was buttery, moist and so delicious alongside a bag of the Brooklyn blend. I was looking for a bag of coffee to take home, and when I told them I was looking for a medium roast with a smooth flavor, they recommended their Red Hook Espresso, which I thought was a bit strange, but they told me they didn't have many options for what I was looking for and that it would still taste great even if I used a regular drip coffee maker. Was sorely disappointed with the flavor when I brewed it at home. There was barely any aroma either. You're much better off getting coffee at La Colombe, Variety, Stumptown or Seven Grams. read more

The gold standard for Iced Mochas. No other place can replicate the taste and creaminess this place can do. Phenomenal all around. I only rate mochas, and this one is the only 5 star. My go to order is an Iced Mocha with oat milk. You cannot go wrong. The perfect compliment of espresso taste with mocha flavor. We kept it simple with our first visit - just a hot coffee and a berry iced tea - but I found both of the drinks to be flavorful, fresh, and well made. The baristas were friendly and knowledgeable, and it was super interesting to hear them talk about the sourcing process for the different kinds of coffee beans. The first coffee place with nonbitter (nonburnt) coffee! My only quip is that the mocha didn't taste strongly of anything in particular, i.e. needs more chocolate in it. Definitely come for a good cup of coffee without the bitter burn of your typical burnt coffee.
