Like many have already stated, my companion and I did not pick Liberty as our first choice for sushi. Who thinks of a whiskey joint and goes "Wow, they must have great Nigiri?" - needless to say, we came upon Liberty serendipitously because a certain high-star sushi joint nearby had a 25 minute+ wait time.
We were placed on one of the couches (unique, if not a bit odd) and greeted promptly and joyously by Gina. She was patient and knowledgable despite having an obviously full section and a packed house. She was so kind when we were 'those guys' and wanted to move to a table when one opened up later in our evening.
On our first trip we picked a chefs choice $30 sampler and, hot damn, were we absolutely blown away. The sushi was fresh and it was diverse (not roll after roll of tuna). We found a roll we absolutely loved (pro tip: The wax-on roll with salmon and lemon is absolutely worth the up charge. Don't miss out on it)
Our second time dining with Liberty, our lazy asses ordered from post mates. Another chefs choice with a wax on roll + salmon and lemon. Again, diverse, fresh and delicious.
And our third time dining with Liberty was a mere five hours ago. Once again, Gina was there, smiling and attentive, even when she was busy and we were dawdling on making a choice. Creatures of habit: chefs choice and a wax on roll with salmon and lemon. This time, heaps of nigiri, which was a surprise and helped us be a little more adventurous (even if one of the nigiri was REALLY fishy). - The Moscow Mules were served in beautiful, crisp copper mugs and were delicious as well. The whiskey choice is large and I look forward to coming back here to try a flight or two.
As a side note, if you get Gina as your server, you will be in awe of how efficient, kind and attentive she is. She's knowledgable of any sushi dish brought to the table, fast without making you feel rushed and very accommodating despite having a very large section. Don't let this one go, Liberty, Gina is a pro and good for your brand!
A very small negative is that seating can be a challenge around the busy times (dinner/happy hour) - be patient with the staff, it is a small venue and they're working their butts off. The awkward seating isn't enough to take away from the experience. And if you HAVE to have a table, chill out on those lovely couches, order one of those delicious Moscow mules and hang out until a seat opens up.
Love this place. Seems like the regulars keep it to themselves and for good reason. We consider ourselves regulars now. read more
