Every time we go here, it's a good time. The owner, Yu Mei, is always there and she's always so inviting and friendly, she takes the time to chat with almost everyone and I don't know if she ever takes time off. It's nice to get such good care and attention when you go out for a casual dinner. The restaurant itself is immaculately clean, i'd go as far as to say that it's one of the cleanest Chinese restaurants i've ever been to. Huge plus for that in my book. The service is lightning fast, both times we've been here, we've given our order and been served within less than a 10-minute timeframe. Granted, it's usually just two of us, but still, that's pretty fast, even when they looked super busy. Half of the building is bar seating, and half is the restaurant. Pretty sure the bar area is seat yourself while the restaurant is the standard hostess seating. The bar tends to be busy most of the time. As for the food, their menu is carefully curated, they might not serve a huge variety, but we've found the options they do have are made with a high caliber of care. On our last visit, Yu Mei helped us decide on the Mandarin beef, as the original Broccoli and Beef dishes' sauce overlapped with the Beef Lo Mein dish, which would have been a repeat flavor. It was such a good call and made the difference because so far the Mandarin Beef and the Cashew Shrimp dishes are exceptionally good here. The Lo Mein was a little basic-tasting and didn't have as much flavor, but it could be great for those who don't like bold-tasting foods. The Pan Fried Crispy Noodles were perfect! We have enjoyed most of the food we've ordered here, a lot of it is just what you'd expect, standard Chinese food dishes mixed with some exceptional choices, and you can tell they take their time to make everything carefully. Highly recommend a visit here if you get the chance. They're good for groups, special occasions, takeout, watching a game in the bar area, or couples and dates. Good price, cold food. It was recommended that I visit Uptown China while in Seattle and sadly, they were the low point of my visit. We had the lunch special, but some of the food was cold while others were barely warm. Service was good, unlike the flavor of the food, which wasn't great. The booths are comfortable, which when trying to find good points over the meal, is a big one. Otherwise, I'd prefer to go to Panda Express over Uptown China, which disappoints me, since PE is one of my least-favored eateries. Not coming back, but I hope that they improve. read more

I got the honey walnut prawns (pre-tax $25), and honestly, it was a disappointment. The batter didn't taste great, and the sauce was just okay -- I had to use soy sauce to make it better. If I'm being honest, Panda Express has tasted better. Service was really nice and attentive, which I appreciated. There are a lot of Chinese restaurants in Seattle. I was excited to try this one as I've driven and walked by it so many times. I was unfortunately disappointed. I had ordered a beef lo mein dish. It wasn't terrible but compared to all of the dishes I've had at other places, the taste just wasn't right. My friends had their dishes and had said the same thing. Nothing tasted quite like it was supposed to. That being said the service was great. Our server was timely and helpful and our food didn't take long at all to come out. The inside looked nice (although a couple of the booths were a couple of tears in them). Knowing what else is out there I wouldn't come back but I guess if you're in the area and really want Chinese food, this place is here. Just lower your expectations. read more

We're still superfans of Uptown China. This last time we even found convenient parking in back (usually it's super tight back there). We had the House Special Chicken, the Ma Po Tofu, Pot Stickers to start and Brown Rice. Best were the Pot Stickers and the Ma Po Tofu. The House Special Chicken could have been called House Special Water Chestnuts due to the mass quantities of them. We would like more different veggies please next time! In the booths, at least two of the upholsteries have holes in them, gulp! Our server was super nice and I was a fan of the 70s throwback music being played. Will we be back though? I was optimistic about this Chinese restaurant, but unfortunately, I understand why it has such low reviews. The biggest problem was the food. I had their orange chicken, and I was able to also try their lo mein. Both quality in taste felt below restaurant standards. The orange chicken wasn't that flavorful and sweet. It cost $19 and it doesn't include a side of rice which is an extra $3. The lo mein was pretty standard. Both dishes tasted like fast food quality honestly. The service was good. The food didn't take that long to make an the server was nice. The prices of the food were high considering how low the quality is. The ambiance was okay. It had plenty of seating. Amazing VEGAN Chinese Food! High Quality texture, flavor, and ingredients. Yu-Mei is one of the most hospitable restaurant owners in Seattle. Jenny was a phenomenal server. So kind and warm and sweet. Wonderful first experience. I even saw her be so caring to some family's kids. She escorted the little girl to the sink, who needed help to wash her hands and said "come, sweetheart." As she took care of this little girl while her parents got to relax. Then she gifted the kids some treats. They gifted a family I was dining with some rice noodles since the cooks accidentally put egg in the dish we ordered. Before they even could bring it to us so we could notice, she gifted us rice for our other dish and quietly got the cooks to make us a new noodle dish. Spectacular service. Great for groups big or small, plentiful vegan options!! Huge portions, all delicious. The service was kind and swift, we were heathens and came in as a group of 10 without a reservation, they sat us without question, even moving tables when 2 more arrived! They split the bill easy at the end too. Half of us are vegan or vegetarian and the my have an entire vegan menu which made that easy. 3 of us shared the crispy eggplant and it was plenty. The spicy mushrooms had a delicious meaty texture too! I didn't try others dishes, but there were no complaints :) Friends remarked in the strength of the uptown margs, so could see this as a good pregame spot for a big night too. read more

Absolute favorite Chinese restaurant of all time, not for aesthetics as they do not go overboard with all that, but they do go overboard with is the food, it's amazing, parking is fairly decent in the back. Id give this à 3+. Good solid Chinese fare. Pleasant service, generous portions. The restaurant is well laid out and clean. Although we were there during a Krakens game and the place was full, we were seated and served quickly. We split an order of Singapore noodles, spice level 3. I did not find it overly spicy and the portion was easily split between the two of us. We were still a bit hungry so ordered some spring rolls. The filling was good, but the outside was a tad greasy. This is ok for plain Chinese food. I ordered Sesame Shrimp with Broccoli, and it was very bland, not much spice or taste. The broccoli that came with it was perfectly plain. Husband had Sweet and Sour Shrimp and thought it was good. They've apparently changed their spring rolls, so they're crunchier inside but not as tasty. I was not super thrilled with my lunch order. I got the general tsos chicken, fried rice, egg drop soup, and crab rangoon. The general tsos chicken was so salty I almost think I got someone else's order. The egg drop soup was fine, but something easily made at home. The crab rangoon was so small. I stumbled upon this restaurant because I was in the mood for some Chinese food and it was by my hotel. I will start by saying this place did NOT disappoint. I only gave it 4 stars because the bar seating area was small. Fred, the bartender, was GREAT! When I asked him for a beer suggestion, he poured Bodhizafa. It was my first time having Bodhizafa and if you like IPAs, I would suggest trying it as well! I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and rice for my entree, and for the appetizer I had the Uptown Rangoon. The food was DELICIOUS! The Kung Pao chicken wasn't super spicy, so if you're concerned about that it part, I would still recommend trying it. Convenient to Climate Change Arena the restaurant was packed prior to an event. Servers really hustled and did their best to keep everyone happy, amazingly without making us feel rushed. The food was a mixed bag. For appetizers the hot & sour soup was nicely seasoned and enjoyed. The pot stickers on the other hand lacked any discernible seasoning, which carried through to the mains. On the positive side, portions were generous. The Kung Pao was unbelievably mild, lacking any heat. Sesame tofu and crispy eggplant, again lacking seasoning. None of the dishes had much in the way of vegetables, in the future we would order a strictly vegetable dish to complement the protein. We would return when eating prior to an event, this time making a reservation, seeing if kung pao could be made spicier, and ordering a vegetable dish! read more

Wow! The food here was SO good! Everything was clearly fresh, right down to the rangoon and vegetable spring rolls (which are obviously frozen and reheated at many restaurants). During our week's stay, we ate here twice! It was clearly popular with the locals, as the staff recognized and chatted with many of them as they came in. That gave the place a comfortable feel. I really hate to leave a bad review but this place has gone seriously downhill in the last few months. I am shocked that none of the other recent reviews mention how bad the food has been lately. I used to come here several times a month but the last 3 times I have been here have been disappointing at best. The food tastes like they got a new chef who is not following the old recipes. Today I had the egg flower soup and mongolian beef. The egg flower soup is flavorless and the mongolian beef is now salty instead of sweet. My mom had the wonton soup and Pat's special and both were bland and tasteless. The service has also gone downhill due to lack of staff and there is always a long line of people waiting to be sat, pay, and pick up their takeout orders.
