Update
I received a very concerned PM from the owner of Liberty questioning whether the events listed below actually happened. I assured him they did but as they seem to have been addressed I promised give Liberty another try. So I called a couple of friends and dropped in on a Tuesday evening. I must say things went much better this time.
Our friend were there when we arrived and had secured a table. We ordered up a round of drinks and began to peruse the menu. The drinks (Grey Goose Martini, Lady Liberty, Lemon-drop and a glass of red wine) arrived shortly thereafter. My martini was very tasty and while it far exceeded the previous one Trish thought her lemon drop was just OK. We also ordered a sampler of Bourbon. For $15 we got a half ounce taste of four Bourbons. You can spend more or less depending on the grade of liquor you want and can also sample of liquors (vodka, scotch, tequila)
For sushi we ordered a couple of rolls and the twenty dollar chefs choice plate. While the rolls were fine the chefs plate was very disappointing. Instead of the plate of sashimi I was expecting we received two pieces of hamachi and a couple more rolls. Also disappointing was the lack of sake.
Overall, we had a great time, the drinks were fine while the sushi was a little disappointing. I would love to give them 3.5 stars if that were possible. If i was looking for a drink on 15th I would not hesitate to stop at Liberty but I would not make it a destination.

Maybe you have to know someone working here in order to like this place. Sad because sushi and liquor seem the perfect match. We visited recently and so many things were so wrong.
When we arrived the seating area was mostly full so we took seats at the bar. I ordered a Grey Goose Martini and Trish asked for a glass of water while she decided what to drink. While we waited, and waited, and waited some more for the bartender to return, we observed.
Here is what we saw.
The waitress making out with, I assume, her boyfriend on the floor. Same waitress prying a cork out of a wine bottle with her teeth. Same waitress sipping from a glass, making a face when she doesn't like her drink, tossing drink and using dirty glass to scoop ice for a new drink.
Something we never saw was a smile from any employee.
Bartender finally returns and Trish orders a Lemon-drop. Receives the blandest tasting Lemon-drop ever. To be fair I did not try any sushi, partly because I was still stuffed from dinner and partly because I was leery of ordering sushi from a twenty-something who looked like he just walked off the set of Boogie Nights. (Don't get me wrong, I am not down on his look. I liked his look, it worked. It is just not what I want from my sushi chef.)
So the time comes, none too soon, to pay and run. We get the bartender's attention and ask for the damage.
"The damage, let's see" Eyes roll back, thinking..., what did they have, hmm, two glasses, oh I don't know, pick a number, "how about twelve dollars."
At least we didn't leave disappointed and broke. read more
