It's been open for a few years, so clearly it has a good enough formula to keep the neighborhood happy. I have been here once before, but returned last week after dining several meals at Tomoni in Jackson Heights. Apparently, the owners are friends. Nonetheless, I needed to make the comparison. After my first few bites of their Tora Don and Chirashi Don, it was clear that this restaurant has the better quality seafood. Each slice of sashimi had vibrant colors, clean taste, and the proper texture. Tomoni is not bad, but fall slightly short of this caliber. With that said, there is an even farther gap between their rice quality. Though Tora is very good, Tomoni produces nearly perfect texture and acidity for my taste buds. Other than the best omakase restaurants in NYC, Tomoni shines as one of the best versions of sushi rice in the five boroughs. Service is good and space is cute. If I have a craving for some decent Japanese food, I would drive 20 minutes here for a meal anytime.

I had the pleasure of dining at Levantine NYC recently with a group of friends, and we were absolutely blown away by the incredible variety of dishes available. No matter our dietary preferences, there was something for everyone, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. From the perfectly cooked, juicy meat options to the fresh, flavorful fish dishes and the thoughtfully crafted vegan plates, every dish showcased a deep understanding of Mediterranean flavors with a modern twist. Beyond the food, the ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience. The warm lighting, cozy yet stylish decor, and welcoming atmosphere made it the perfect place to gather and enjoy a meal together. The staff was incredibly attentive, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our visit, offering helpful recommendations, and ensuring our dining experience was seamless. Whether you're planning a casual lunch, a lively dinner with friends, or even a special occasion, Levantine NYC is a fantastic choice. The diverse menu, high-quality ingredients, and exceptional hospitality truly set it apart. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu--this spot is definitely a new favorite! read more

I went back for a weekday lunch recently and the food and atmosphere both hold up fabulously, so it makes sense why they've remained a brunch mainstay at both their East Village and Williamsburg locations. I enjoy that they serve their hot moroccan tea in a glass as is traditional, so you can see all the fresh mint leaves in your cup. I had tea like this multiple times a day during my trip to Morocco a few years back so sipping on this here took me back in time. I ordered a short stack of their blueberry pancakes which were very fluffy and delicious. They're not the kind of pancake with crispy edges, which are my preferred kind of pancake but I still found them satisfying. The moroccan eggs, which are two poached eggs in spicy stewed tomatoes and served with zahar pita is a delight. The pita is very fluffy and the zahatar adds such a nice fragrant spice to the bread. They used to serve this with potatoes but now those come at an additional charge but are well worth getting. The Williamsburg location also has pretty good wifi and they let me work on my laptop through my brief stay there. Kitchen was speedy too.

We ordered cauliflower, scallops, octopus, branzino, and the moussaka. As a diabetic, I focus on consuming non starchy veggies, fiber and protein, so the menu was centered around that. My favorites were the cauliflower, the octopus, and the branzino. The moussaka was fine to me but others in the party really enjoyed it and said that was their favorite dish. I think moussaka is not quite for me. The scallop was also not my favorite - the meat almost tasted alcoholic and pungent, but it was meaty. I enjoyed the sauce more than I enjoyed the actual scallop itself. The octopus was done perfectly and if mixed with the scallop or cauliflower sauce, it gets even better. The cauliflower was the absolute best though. I think there were capers mixed in and I love me some capers, but it was flavorful and satisfying. Overall it was a good experience but the dishes are on the smaller end. We ordered all these dishes for 3 people but I doubt the other two people in my party were full. 5/5 -- A Fantastic Upscale Greek Dining Experience in Greenpoint!…read more What a wonderful addition to Greenpoint! From the ambiance to the food and service, everything at An Arena was beautifully executed and genuinely exceeded our expectations. My partner and I walked by this place for two years since it opened and always told ourselves to give this place a try - especially since it's right next to apartment building! We came here to celebrate my partner's birthday with two of our friends, and it turned out to be the perfect spot for a special occasion. The menu had so many wonderful options, but the absolute star of the show was the lobster orzo! It was easily our favorite dish of the evening. The octopus was also delicious, as were the various appetizers we ordered. Everything was beautifully presented, thoughtfully prepared, and incredibly satisfying. Beyond the food, what really stood out was the hospitality and attention to detail. I hadn't even explicitly mentioned that we were celebrating my partner's birthday, but the staff surprised him with a lovely sorbet dessert! It was such a thoughtful gesture and made the evening feel even more special. It's those little touches that really distinguish a great restaurant from a good one. The ambiance is another huge plus. It's a quieter, more upscale dining experience that's perfect for date nights, birthdays, or simply enjoying a nice dinner with friends and family without the chaos of some of the busier restaurants in the neighborhood. For fellow Greenpoint residents, the location is incredibly convenient, especially if you live in Greenpoint Central, 77 Commercial, 55 Commercial, Blue Slip, Bell Slip, The Dupont, or Eagle + West. It's wonderful to have a proper sit-down Greek restaurant within walking distance, particularly in an area where the immediate dining options can feel somewhat limited beyond casual eateries and bodegas. An easy 5/5 across the board! Between the excellent food, beautiful ambiance, attentive service, and thoughtful hospitality, we couldn't have asked for a better birthday dinner. We'll absolutely be returning and look forward to bringing more friends and family here. So happy to have a restaurant like this in our corner of Greenpoint!
