Levain is known for their cookies. One of the most famous AND delicious cookies. Came across this location on a work trip to DC and had to stop by for my sweet sake. As always, cookie didnt dissapoint and went well with a double espresso to warm me down since it was cooooold outside! read more

Delicious, gooey cookies!! After seeing all the hype about this place, I knew I just had to try it! Came by on a Sunday afternoon around 1, and there was already a line. The line moved quickly, and we probably only waited 10-15 minutes. Ordered the double chocolate chip and the original chocolate chip walnut. The chocolate chip walnut was my favorite by far - the middle was soft and the chocolate was gooey. The walnut provided a nice crunch and made it different than a standard chocolate chip. Maybe it was just the batch I got, but the double chocolate chip was a bit harder and thicker. The chocolate chips didn't melt in your mouth like the other one did. Still pretty good, but a little sweet for my taste. These cookies are big enough for sharing, which kind of justifies the $4 price tag. Glad that Levain is in DC now! read more

Had an oatmeal raisin cookie, dark chocolate peanut butter cookie, and country baguette. The cookies were both good, though the dark chocolate one was better. The oatmeal raisin one was sort of just a raisin cookie -- not a lot of oat texture, flavor, or appearance. Neither was extraordinary, and the flavors and texture feel a lot like what I can achieve at home. For ~$5/dessert, I think I'll direct my dessert spending towards patisserie or cookies with more unique flavors. But I'd be happy if somebody else wants to buy me Levain cookies. The baguette was more or less what I'd expect from a grocery store. Fine for the price if you need some bread, but not something to go out of the way for. Soft crust, small, soft crumb, flavor a bit like pizza dough. I was very happy they have someone at the door monitoring inflow and outflow during COVID. And the shop itself is nicely decorated with a big, open kitchen behind checkout. read more

I'm very picky about my chocolate chip cookies but I had seen this bakery was the place to try when in NYC. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to go when I was last in NYC. I was excited to find out there was one in DC! We ended up ordering ahead via DD to avoid the lines since there's always a line. Staff: The staff is so busy filling orders and trying to keep up with the line which they do a pretty good job at. They're friendly and helpful and efficient. Location: Can't say too much about the location as most of the store was filled by the line of people waiting to order. They're popular so be prepared to wait in line and be patient. Food: We ordered a couple of the walnut chocolate chip cookies, the double chocolate chip cookie and a Valrhona roll. I tried the Valrhona roll and it was okay. I wasn't a huge fan of it. It just seemed like bread with a piece of Valrhona chocolate in it. Not quite a chocolate croissant but same idea. However, the chocolate chip walnut cookie was yummy! I like that the edges had a crunch and the center was gooey and soft. That's the perfect consistency to me when it comes to chocolate chip cookies. Also, the cookies are thick and heavy so you know you're getting a lot of cookie! I wish I had the patience to take a picture of my cookie but I ate it. Would totally order from them again. read more

Ok WOW. I had heard of the famous Levain bakery cookies but had never happened upon a location before so this was finally my chance to try and they did NOT disappoint! Basically the size of your hand, and honestly the perfect amount of chocolate chips and walnuts. Yeah, I got the original cuz that's what they're famous for!! My friend also got a dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie and it was good too but the original is the way to go for sure. They were slightly crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside, freshly baked and delicious. $11 for 2 and WORTH IT. read more

Being from Texas, I'm loyal to the Texas cookie chain TIff's Treats for their soft buttery cookies. However, I've heard much rave about Levain's and decided to grab a batch on the opening day of the Georgetown location. At first bite, I fell in love. It had a nice crunchy shell on the outside that breaks into a soft gooey center. I give this cookie a 4.5/5 only because it has more chocolate chips than I personally prefer but I am sure that is an issue only I have. What I enjoyed most about this cookie is that it's not overly sweet -- it's most tolerable cookie I've ever eaten in terms of sweetness! I also had the dark chocolate chocolate chip, and it was very rich and decadent but much dense than the chocolate chip. The texture is similar to the chocolate chip's, except it isn't as crunchy and more soft like a brownie. It's also on the lower end of the sweetness spectrum for a double chocolate cookie, but still sweet nonetheless. It became overwhelming after a few bites, so I probably won't be getting that again. It's not to say it's a bad cookie -- because it really is delicious -- just is too sweet and rich for my taste. Being in Georgetown, the location is what you expect to be and parking is what it is, but if you ever have a chance, I'd definitely recommend stopping by! read more

The cookies are great, but the pure sweetness falls flat for me. To improve it, sprinkle Maldon flaky salt on a warm cookie. For that reason alone, I prefer baking the frozen dough at home. But the ones in the shop are fresher and HUGE!! The staff is very friendly and the little shop is lovely. read more

Happy to have levain here in DC. Line was long but moved very quickly and staff was welcoming and super friendly. Cookies are good, I still will always prefer thin cookies- but still always get one when I'm in the city, because I mean it's Levain... I love the double chocolate cookie the most, texture and flavor wise it's more brownie like than cookie.. i also love that they're always consistent. If you're craving something sweet and are in Georgetown, I do recommend coming and trying their cookies! read more

Stopped by to try a new cookie. If you enjoy Carmel and coconut this is the cookie for you. The Carmel is subtle and is not prevalent in the cookie itself so don't worry about getting it stuck in your teeth. It's the rim of the cookie and a great crunch. Consistent coconut through out. As always come at night or on a weekday for no line. The woman at the register was so kind to suggest this newer cookie. Limited seating but on warmer days the lawn chairs are a nice space to enjoy your treat. read more

It was a great cookie! The new shop in Georgetown is clean and spacious. The staff were respectful of COVID regulations and very friendly. We ordered one of each kind of cookie (including the gluten free!) Now for the cookies: substantial and incredibly thick. They were crispy and golden on the outside and moist and gooey on the inside! Indulgent and definitely a treat. It was a great cookie... just like many other great cookies. read more

I've only been to levain in nyc so it was exciting that one opened in Georgetown! Chocolate chip walnut is their original flavor and probably my favorite! I was also pleasantly surprised by how delicious the oatmeal raisin was - it was recommended by one of the staff members and did not disappoint. These cookies are absolutely amazing and don't think you can go wrong with the flavors. They have a crispy outside but a soft gooey inside that melts in your mouth. These cookies are THICK so I'd recommend sharing especially if you want to try more than one flavor. Coffee is good too - I got a cappuccino with almond milk that went well with the cookies. Also, if you get the cookies to go and don't eat them right away, make sure you warm them up a little! read more

I discovered that I do not prefer giant thick cookies. I prefer them to be flat. However, the peanut butter chocolate cookie is very good. Almost like a brownie. The walnut chocolate chip cookie was fine, but a little overrated in my opinion. It was crisp on the outside, but not very cooked on the inside. Just not really what I prefer in a cookie. This place was really nice! There was a line to get in but moved really fast. The customer service was also good. I liked the cookies but to be honest they were a little overwhelming with the chocolate and peanut butter chips. I did like the brioche. It's not too sweet and is very soft. I would recommend microwaving it for a couple seconds if you bring it home. It makes it nice and warm. Very interesting cookie shape. Don't really know how I feel about it but would eat again if someone gave me the cookie! read more

Eh guys, the cookies just tastes like a regular cookie. Like a generic cookie. Maybe they used almond flour, but like the dough of the cookie was basic. How good can it be? It's just a cookie, right? WRONG. It IS that good. I remember having tried Levain in NY years ago, and remember it being really good, but kind of forgot about it. Well, now that there is a location in DC, I figured I'd give it another shot. The 2 times I have been, I went at off hours, so luckily, I didn't have to wait in line. The staff are super friendly and work very fast. The first time I got the cookies, they tasted better when I took them home and microwaved them. The 2nd time, they were nice and warm as soon as I ordered. I told myself the same thing. It's just a cookie, I probably won't get a craving for one. That was the biggest lie I told myself. Even as I'm writing this review, I am wanting one. Some may think at $4/cookie, it is overpriced. But these cookies are large AND very dense, and did I mention, delicious? Don't even want to see the nutrition info on these. I like variety, so I have tried ALL of them Cookies: Chocolate chip walnut: OG cookie. Has big-ish chunks of walnuts, so if you're not a nut fan, I would opt for something else Two chip chocolate chip: imagine, their OG cookie sans the nuts Dark chocolate chocolate chip: for the chocolate lovers out there. Very very rich, but oh so good. Personally, I can only have a small amount at a time Dark Chocolate peanut butter chip: probably my least favorite, but if you really enjoy peanut butter, you'll like this. Think of it as a super heavy/rich Reese's Oatmeal raisin: I love oatmeal raisin cookies. Though this one does not have that seasonal cinnamon type flavor that most oatmeal raisin cookies have, The cookie part itself is very good. And I love the raisins. Need mooorree read more

I tried this place over the weekend and absolutely love their cookies! They have decent seating inside as well as some seating outside. I ordered the Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie and an iced latte. The cookie was delicious! It was so moist and chewy I couldn't even finish the whole thing! Even though the cookie looks small it is thick so my friend and I shared one. Sadly their coffee isn't as great. They don't have any flavors to add in the coffee. They only have sugar at a self-serve station. If you like your coffee sweeter I wouldn't recommend trying it. I have to give it 4 stars because their coffee was not great. I will definitely be coming back to try more of their cookies though! read more

really great and, now, iconic pastry/cookie shop in georgetown! while their cookies are what they're known for, i also really enjoy their pastries! this time i went i for their pumpkin ginger loaf and it was wonderful! really great texture, it didn't have nuts it anything in it, and the crust was actually one of my favorite parts. the cookies they are known for are awesome. they're very decedent; kinda of more of a cross between cake and cookie. they're really thick and cake-y and they have good flavors! they have an alright coffee selection but for sure go here for the cookies rather than the coffee. they are somewhat pricey; the cookies are $5, the pumpkin loaf was $4, and the coffee was $7+ (i got vanilla and a milk sub.). the cookies are for sure worth the price, though! the place can get really busy during the day and weekends but the line does move pretty quickly. the service is really lovely as well! there aren't really any seats inside, it is more of a grab and go kind of place rather than a sit and linger spot. they do have some chairs outside though! overall, really great spot in georgwtown and definitely worth a stop by! read more

I got the Original Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie and I can fully recommend it, it's delicious! This is a bakery that I would definitely come back to and recommend it i was in the area. They have a couple other cookie options that I've tried before, but I would say the the original chocolate chip walnut cookie has the best overall texture, sweetness, and chocolate flavor as it's not too overpowering. I would also say for the average person that 1 cookie would be good for 2 people. read more

Okay, so yeah these cookies are pretty great. Always excited to have a new dessert spot in Georgetown, and this one doesn't disappoint. We tried the chocolate peanut butter, and seasonal special Cafe Con Leche cookies. Both have a chocolate base with various mix-ins. I liked them each about equally, and will note I liked them much MUCH better when I microwaved them for a few seconds. Melty, gooey goodness. I'll probably stop back in to try their original chocolate chip, and maybe some other goodies too (breads, pastries). Chocolate walnut cookie 11/10- oh my god. This is PHENOMENAL. If you've ever had the Bristol farms ultimate cookie, just know this is the equivalent of it but a million times better. The outside of the cookie is crunchy but the inside is gooey, making the texture truly a sensational taste. This cookie genuinely melts in your mouth and is so filling, but also leaves you wanting more. The original flavor is the chocolate walnut. In no way am I a fan of walnuts, however I am a BIG advocate of this cookie. As an avid cookie enthusiast, I can whole heartedly say that this is the best cookie I've ever had. When we visited DC, a friend insisted that we try this place as the cookies were out of this world. Needless to say, he was right! We got several things but the one that stood out to me the most was the chocolate chip and walnut cookie. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Value: 4/5 ---- Levain is iconic, and their cookies are instantly recognizable. They're so beloved in New York for that balance between crispy outside, gooey inside. I will start by saying that's not really 100% my cookie vibe (I like consistently chewy), but how can you pass on Levain's first location outside of NYC? My favorite is the OG chocolate chip walnut. Perfect balance of nuts to chocolate to cookie. They currently have a cafe con leche cookie that is also delicious, very nuanced in flavor. My main gripe (which may be your favorite thing about them) is that because they're undercooked in the middle, these cookies are SO heavy that even if I just eat half of one, I feel pretty boggy and gross after. But to each their own. The eating part is definitely pretty darn delicious. Service is great for this new location opening during COVID, and it is very cute. Hard to eval during this time, but they were pretty good about social distancing and low contact ordering at this time. Line moves decently fast, but I'd still avoid peak hours if you can. read more

I know $4 sounds pricy for a cookie but trust me when I say its worth it in this case! These cookies are thiccccccc and HUGE! I couldnt even finish half of one! These are truly delicious and fluffy! I think this is the best cookie I've ever had. While I was eating it, I thought I was in heaven for a moment. And maybe the hour+ long wait made it extra good. But wow. I would definitely recommend the chocolate chip walnut and the double dark chocolate. The oatmeal raisin is good too if you're into that. My only critique is I did not like their order/pick up system. It's a very loud environment and I felt like I was yelling to place my order. Someone else's receipt in the bag and everything, so a suggestion either remember who gets what or ask name and call out (like starbucks). So to whoever who got my order I hope you enjoyed because I got 3 chocolate chip cookies with nuts and I don't like nuts. In fact it's funny I even made it a point to say "no nuts, just plain choc chip". Even though there was a line, it goes by really fast. The cookies were very good and could be shared by two people. Since the cookies weren't overly sweet, it paired really well with the iced latte and their espresso was *chef kisses*.
