BE AWARE; Leslies over sold me chemicals (liquid chlorine) when it was on sale. I regret that I previously wrote a good review previously which they asked me to do. They did not inform me the short shelf life and the chlorine became obsolete before I could use it (even though they know the size of my pool etc). I have been shopping at the San Jose S De Anza store since 20+ yrs. I called 3 times and left a message to have the District Manager to call me over past 2 months but no return phone call. I even purchased a $2000 pool pump from them last year. read more

Needed help with my Polaris 280. Back up valve had split apart, I'd purchased a new case but needed it replaced as I do not have the hand strength to take it apart. I'd hoped it could be changed right then, but Kyle told me that there were others before me and I needed to leave it--no time line or pick up date. I heard nothing from nobody so after 2 weeks, I called and nothing had been done. I called again and Pam then said she would look at it. Again, I was given no timeline and heard noting from nobody. I called again after about 5 days and nobody had done anything. Pam said my polaris needed lots of parts and agreed to fix it by the next day. I came to pick it up, paying over $300 dollars. I brought it home and attached it to my pool. The tail, which had been fine before started manically flipping and the Polaris started gong in small circles in the deep end--sweeping and cleaning nothing. I brought it back in to Pam who said she did not know what to do and recommended Kyle look at it the next day. She did not call me so I called. He apparently did not show up at work the next day, and she promised he would look at it the next day. The next day I received no call, of course, so called and, of course, no one had looked at it. Kyle said he would look at if before closing. I drove there at 4:30 today and Kyle was working on it, replacing and adjusting things Pam had done and charged me another $100+ for parts, etc. It now seems to be working just as it did before the back up valve split and was replaced by another I had purchased on amazon. This is singularly the worst service I have ever received. Although Kyle and Pam meant well, only Kyle knew how to fix the Polaris and had no time to do so. Do not let Leslie Pool Supply fix your equipment. They are incompetent. Shame on the owners of this business for not having qualified technicians to fix pool equipment or giving those who have skills time for repairing. This appears to be a rather horrible business. read more

I've always been very pleased with the products and service at my local store and would rate it at 5 stars. Due to the pandemic I ordered a $125 bucket of chemicals online. It was supposed to have arrived after about a week but on the supposed delivery date I received a notification from Fedex that the package was "Damaged - handling per shipper instructions". I waited for a couple of days assuming Leslies would do something. Nope. So I sent an email that was ignored. So I sent another email that was ignored. I called and after waiting on hold for 35 minutes I was assured that a replacement would be sent out. The item was finally shipped twelve days later by a method expected to take 11 days to arrive! So zero stars for the online store. read more

The staff here is either not very knowledgeable or is just trying to sell expensive pool chemicals. Two springs ago, our pool had a bad algae problem. My husband and I dutifully took our water samples to Leslie's, bought the chemicals they pushed, and followed their instructions to a T. After three weeks and hundreds of dollars spent, we still had a green murky pit. I educated myself about pool care and maintenance (on a website called www.troublefreepool.com) and stopped going to Leslie's. I got my pool from green to blue in a couple of days, and from cloudy blue to crystal clear in another week or so. In the process, I learned that I got bunk advice and was sold a lot of expensive stuff that wasn't helping clean my pool and was probably making it worse. In addition, the Leslie's brand vacuum hose I purchased split on the first use, and even though it had a "lifetime guarantee" they wouldn't take it back. My parents told me this horrible story about this Leslie's location. Couple of months ago, they went here to buy some supplies and as they were driving out from the one-way alley from behind the building, they ran into a Leslie's service truck parked and blocking the road. After waiting patiently for a few minutes, they inquired if the driver of the truck can move the truck so they can navigate out. The driver replied by telling them that they should back up and go the other way because he wasn't going anywhere as the driver unloaded items into a trash bin. My parents have gone to Leslie's for over 20 years and they told me that this experience will officially end their relationship with them. The service department is a shadow of what it used to be and it's a shame that it had to drag down the reputation of a name brand that once was highly regarded and respected locally. read more

Greg, the store manager, provides incredible service. I recently had to replace my pump, and the replacement was out of stock. He managed to locate one, and since he'd had bad experiences with delivery services and pumps, he had his manager pick up the new pump and deliver it to the store, where he checked it out before it was installed. Several months ago, I had a leak in the pool, and asked for his advice. He told me how to troubleshoot and fix the leak using materials from Home Depot, saving me lots of money. While he didn't sell me anything for this problem, he still asked me to check in to let him know how it was going, and consulted as I was diagnosing and fixing the leak. read more

Should get a zero. Stay away. Far away. Completely disorganized and a time waster. Got a visit and quote on paper that was so faint it couldn't be read. Emailed them and asked for readable proposal. No response. Called and asked for readable proposal and was asked over and over whether I want to pay for the proposed work by check or credit card. All they wanted to know was how I was going to pay for work that hadn't even been contracted. Took 10 minutes to get them to understand I need readable copy of proposal and hadn't hired them yet. They said they would email. They didn't. Final email asked again for proposal. Got a nice apology with a handheld on the fly iPhone jpg showing 2 inches of the left side of the proposal page. Unreadable. OMG. I'm done wasting my time with them. read more

This place is ripe off!! Don't bring your equipment for them to test what is wrong..... They take every piece apart, and randomly told you the problem. If you want to fix it, it cost 1/2 price of brand new one. If you don't want to fix it,they will give you back everything in little pieces like a puzzle. read more

I appreciated the follow-up phone call with Leslie's Pool District Manager, Chris Dinwiddie who arranged for a technician to clean out the pool filter at no charge. But as it turns out, when the drum was opened, all eight of the grids were in pretty bad shape so it was pointless to do the cleaning. I feel the previous technician from the April timeframe should have pointed out the condition of the grids when he had come out to clean the filter; the damaged grids would explain why the water pressure went up so quickly after he had cleaned them. If he had correctly pointed out the problem at that time, I would have ordered new grids, which I will be doing now to fix the problem. Again, thank you for the follow-up, Chris Dinwiddie!!! I placed an order for 2 floats. The first float came in about a week after I ordered it. The second never showed up and continued to say it was processing. After a few weeks I called and waited more than 30 minutes to speak to someone. They told me the order should ship in a few more days. After waiting more than 5 weeks the float still had not come. I called again and waited on hold another 35 minutes to speak to a customer service person. They had no more information for me. I asked for a refund and am now waiting several more days for that to process, if it ever happens. What a terrible experience for a first time customer. Poor management! I was actually told to go online and use youtube to get the answer to my question. I would have been fine with that if it had been a more professional delivery. I was told to add 9 bags of salt now they tell me my salt is too high. I told them pool was turning green, which they attributed to too much salt. They suggested 1 lb. of shock. In 35 years of being a pool owner, 1 lb of shock never helped anything. Telephone customer service is even worse; I held for 1.5 hours only to be disconnected. I ended up going to the other local pool store and getting wonderful service, a bottle of algicide and 3lbs of shock. Problem solved and Leslie's can keep my REWARDS! read more

We were having a hard time deciding between rings or a pool cover to keep warmth in the pool and evaporation from happening. We have a large pool and it is in the sun all day. The manager talked us through the options and guided us to take the pool cover due to the size of the pool. It has been awesome. Horrible service.They would not replace a motor I had under warranty they are crooks. They want 400 for a brand new motor when we still have a warranty for the one they last brought from under a year ago. We do not have the money to waste on this and are barely able to stay in our house as is. it would be appreciated if Leslie's could honor their end of a deal with a pool contractor for a warrantied motor but it appears they are not capable of it.So essentially, we had a contractor out for the motor within a year, got a new one, now that new one is broken without lasting a year, and they expect us to buy a brand new 400 dollar motor. read more

We've used Leslie's for decades. No matter who the manager is over the years, we've always had impeccable service. They repair our equipment if we bring it in and pay for parts only. If anything we purchase isn't perfect, they refund without any fuss. This is not the closest pool supply place to us, but it's the place I go for everything to do with our pool. read more

Do NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING from Leslie's pool, as it takes over 2 weeks to just get a return label and that is after calling for almost a week . They also charge $15 dollars for shipping (FedEx representative told me $15 for what I was returning was a rip off). AND CHARGE 15% restocking Fee. One star is actually too many stars for this location. It appears that all the competent staff have gone elsewhere. Professional installers and repairmen like Barry McKay are no longer available. My most recent experience involved trouble with my new Hayward H250 pool heater. The current staff, including the local manager, stated that they had no knowledge of how to operate this pool heater (which they had sold me and installed last October) and suggested that I contact the manufacturer back east. I called a competitor and within 5 minutes had the solution.....a very simple solution....to my problem. Last summer when algae was rampant, this store evaluated my water samples week after week and continued selling me chemicals to combat the rapid growth. After six weeks of failing to clear my pool water. I decided to flush the pool, scrub the walls with a high pressure water hose, refill the pool and balance according to directions I copied from the Internet. Problem solved. The staff had no idea how to combat algae other than to use a massive dose of chemicals; even when confronted with a jar of 2-inch thick green algae to analyze. Having read most of the other yelp comments in this edition of reviews, I have to agree with ALL of the negative anecdotes and suggest to the reader to find other vendors, e.g., Ernie's Pool Supplies. There are good stores in this area but this Leslie's is not one of those. The staff changes frequently and the emphasis seems to be on selling equipment and chemicals...not on developing a long term relationship. We have been going to this store for over 20 years but recent changes and a lack of competent...and responsive service.... have damaged our relationship irretrievably. read more

They only want your money, but don't want to do any work. I asked for an estimation in June for install an automation panel. They send one guy over on time. Once the guy arrived, he was like a hyper guy and told me he can install a lot of automation instruments for me. I told him I don't want so many fancy features, I just want an basic automation panel to time my pumps. Please just give me an estimation. Then he lost all interests. Wrapped up things and wanted to charge me $119 for estimation, I told him when I made the appointment, I was told it was $79 for estimation. So he said OK, $79 it is. He charged me the money and left. He promised will send me the estimation report ASAP. Then this guy just disappeared into the thin air and didn't give me the estimation he promised. After a month and half, till early August, I got nothing. No one pays attention to me or get back to me. So I called the store manager Matt on DeAnza store. Matt told me he will call the guy and find out what is going on. Then same thing, it is almost anther month waiting, I never heard back from this manager Matt. Basically they took my money and totally forget about me unless I want to pay them big money to install expensive equipment. What kind of business is that! A total scam. I don't know how Leslie can keep a reputation with guys like this. I will keep calling them and ask for refund. I will update this review here. I can't believe how they do business. Want to give an update on this issue. (9/2/14) After this Yelp post, I got a call from a regional VP of Leslie's. He talked to me about the issue and offered me another free estimation or full refund. I took the refund. For that reason, I raise up my ranking a little bit. read more

I visited this Leslie's 20 minutes before closing on a Friday evening. A young man, Trevor was rude to me doing all of the things you are not supposed to do to clients in a store. He turned his back to me 99 percent of the time and laughed at me when I asked a question about whether I had to sign something. I had trouble reaching something and although Trevor was doing nothing, I still had to climb onto a shelf to get something from the top area. He was just standing there. I don't recommend this particular Leslie's. Maybe try Ernie's Pool supply or another Leslie's. It was a bad experience. read more
