Initially, they were very professional and courteous. We worked with the son to pick what we wanted. My husband said the father seemed to be very knowledgeable and honest when he came to quote. We paid the $1000 deposit and the start date was scheduled. Day one seemed to go well. However, from day two until the completion of the pool, their communication sucked. There were multiple days that they just didn't show up with no notification. We didn't hear anything until we reached out to them wondering why the no show. They claimed they had emergency jobs that pulled them away. We can understand that, but we would have liked a courtesy call. We had a scheduled date to get our house painted thinking that the pool work would be done, but due to all the missed days, it wasn't. So we pushed back the house painting a week. Come to find out, Coral Pool said we SHOULD get the house painted first. If we had better communication from them, we would have known not to push the painting back a week. Most communication was through text, which is fine, but this was not the experience we expected since they were so easy to work with in the beginning. We are glad that we hired Jose and his team to work on our pool re-surfacing project. They did a good job and turned our twenty plus year old plaster pool into a beauty with pebble finish, new tiles and new coping. Before the project started, we had no idea the differences between different pool surface, choice of tiles and coping. Jose (owner) is very knowledgeable and very patient explaining to us the pro and con of different choices and recommended what's best solution to us with reasonable price. To help us choose the right color and style of the tiles and coping that will look good to our pool and to the surrounding area, Jose sent worker with many samples to our home to helped us finalize our pick. Workers from Coral Pool knew what they were doing and they cleaned up the pool area every day after work. Jose and his team had good communication with us throughout the project. They always listened and made sure we were satisfied. He apologized for not getting back to me stating his father was out of town leaving him to do it all and stated text is not the best way to get hold of him, rather call or email (which I didn't have since our conversations have been in person, call transfers from the # on Yelp, or through text). Anyway, Anthony let it be known he was made aware of my review (which is probably why he called back so quickly) and how it affects small businesses, etc. We came to an agreement that if he could get my quote to me by end of next business day, we would go from there. Anthony delivered on his word and I had my quote end of next business day. Since then, Anthony has been quite responsive to all emails and has answered all questions, offering his suggestions when necessary. We have yet to decide who we will contract for the pool due to some personal matters and Anthony has been respectful of that. We contracted with Coral Pool and Spa in February 2022 to resurface our pool. While the resurfacing went fine, and when a leak was detected, they were out immediately to work on finding and fixing the leak, they left my yard looking like a messy construction site. Rubble, chunks of concrete and tile, and chunks of wood were brushed under the hedge, behind the hedge and around my yard. I found large razor blades swept under the hedge as well. The plastic and paper backing from the tile were left laying around - not ALL of it, but really none of it should have been left behind. The tile work on steps outside the pool took months to complete and we had to hound them to come out. They still have not completely finished that as there are gaps where there should be grout or some type of sealant. I've given up trying to contact them to do it. The nozzles for the jets in the jacuzzi have not been fitted back in - we've tried to do it on our own and it is proving really difficult. I think they put too much concrete there at the edge of holes. The sealant around the pool between the pool edge tile and the cement is STILL gooey in some places and comes off on hands and feet and therefore gets tracked around. They've also left cement and grout stains on the tile and the concrete. Every time I look around, I see all the flaws. read more

Jose, Anthony and the team are great to work with. We have owned several pools over the years but this was the 1st time we had one constructed. We did our due diligence by researching all the companies in the South Bay Area. After the initial meeting with our designer and estimator Anthony, he drew up the estimate and explained what the process would look like. After this we decided to go with Coral Pool and Spa. Each crew that came to our home was professional polite and respectful. Anthony and Jose oversaw the project which led to a seamless process. A few areas around the property had to be destroyed in order to gain access for excavation and trenching. Jose made sure the area was not only restored to its original appearance but exceeded what it looked like before. During the construction processe the crews frequently cleaned up trash and construction debris to try and keep things as organized as they could considering how dirty things can get during construction. John and Jose were available by phone and email to answer any questions we had during the process and made sure we we're ready for inspections. We give this company 10 out of 10 and will gladly recommend them to our friends and family. read more

Nice people. Horrible job. I would give them a zero if I could and revoke their license as well. Jose's company replastered and put new tiles in our pool. Seven months after the tiles were placed, the grout started to crack, fall apart and disappeared in between the tiles. We are still dealing with this problem. The whole year long experience with this company has been painful. Multiple voice messages and emails with no response. The only time they respond is if you mention a law suit or a lawyer. As a result of the threats, Jose senior came to see the problem but because he took no notes he forgot what was said and nothing has been done. The whole grout is falling apart and several of the brand new glass tiles along with it. They never came to fix the problem. Jose wants to patch up the parts that are falling off which is not what we agreed on when he came over. The problem is that everything is falling off and he refuses to grout the entire pool again. We have a small pool. We had just redone our coping and because Coral didn't use tape to protect it, we have grout in between the coping. Horrible job! The cleaning crew made a mess on the plants, the newly painted fence and made about 70 holes in our stamped concrete. Jose told us he would send someone to clean the plants and the fence. Never happened. We had an outside concrete company to fix the 70+ holes. We will provide pictures of this on a separate review. Not knowing the quality of their job, I recommended this company in Next-door.com. Someone hired the company and sent me an email about the poor job done. This is the reply my neighbor sent me: "Hey, it's probably too late already, but I contracted Coral Pools to do my pool too. Jose underbid everyone. Thing is, I regret that decision all the time, particularly when another pool pro comes out, because they tell me all the places Jose cut corners and gave us an inferior experience and product. If you haven't signed, don't. Pay a little bit more. You'll be MUCH happier. I'm just giving all additional work to other contractors. My pool wall that Coral Pools put in is starting to fail actually. They're terrible!" Jose takes no responsibly for the quality of his job. We sought quotes from a large number of pool contractors. The eliminated the outliers (both cheap and expensive). Many contractors don't have a show room and we're unable to show us tile samples and sent us to look at catalogs. There's a lot you can do to educate yourself on YouTube regarding who I've of colored plaster versus pebble finish. Coral Pool had an actual show room which gave us some peace of mind. The construction was right on schedule. The demolition occurred in phases, and the team cleaned up the debris nicely. We are very happy with the pool. Thankfully, we had nothing to worry about. They finished just about on schedule and the work looks excellent. All the tile work around the hot tub has been replaced and the new white plaster gives the the whole pool and spa a wonderful mediterranean blue color. Be aware though, once the work is done, the startup costs can be quite costly (our quote did not include these, nor was it explained to us that there is a process that has to be gone through before the pool is useable again). The startup took a further week for my pool service company to complete after the plastering was finished. I had a minor problem with the spa jets, post renovation, but Jose immediately sent someone out to fix it. Overall I am very happy that I went with Coral Pool and Spa. Great job! read more

I've shared my experience as a warning to anyone thinking of hiring you. Buyer beware these guys are liars and the majority of their response is dishonest and false. I am not the first of your reviewers to call out your dishonesty and have the same issues and I sincerely doubt I'll be the last. Scheduling access was difficult? The house was vacant and being renovated. There were other contractors working there 7 days a week and had we had no issues with any of them. Receiving texts from Jose at 9pm asking us to have the gate open by 7am the next morning, or no notice until early in the morning when someone was already outside waiting to be let in are examples of poor communication and the company's unprofessionalism. Nobody was ever sent out to pressure wash. This is a flat out lie. The trash and debris left behind were never even picked up by your company. Numerous emails were sent with no response. We cleaned up after your workers. In regard to the automation system, if it was our "preference" shouldn't the system have been installed the way we wanted in the first place? Isn't that what a customer is paying you for? Why would you take someone's money to do any work any other way? You ignored our requests and were unwilling to respond when we attempted to communicate this to you multiple times. You obviously do not take any pride or responsibility for your company's work. The door to the panel would barely clear the fence. You had to stand to the side of the control panel to open it. Even if your claim that it was installed correctly was true, why would the details or location not be discussed with a customer before anchoring equipment into a walkway? If you stand by your work, why did I have to hire another company to get this rectified? Anthony finally responded a couple months after posting my review. He asked me to take it down or "at least change the stars". He was willing to make things right only if I deleted or changed my review. This call was a negotiation to get the review removed rather than a business trying to make things right. I was unwilling to do so but told him I would give it an honest update if they were able to work with us to resolve the issues that remained. This was 4 months after he claims the job was completed. We never asked you to pay for anything or requested a check. This is another straight up lie. My issues were not about money. You were paid for all the substandard work on time even though there were issues that needed to be resolved. The problem is that you are dishonest. You proposed something, we agreed on it, and you chose to not follow through. Claiming you were not aware of certain details or making excuses to back out on what was agreed on is not our fault. This is shows your level of incompetence and how disengaged you were in the details of our project. And although I am not surprised, it is a shame that you, as a business, would choose to post a reply on Yelp without at least responding to the last email I sent you 7 weeks ago after you had contacted me. Our experience with Coral Pools and Spa has been a real disappointment. I regret to agree with my husband decision to hire this Company to do this job. My husband met with Jose and got the stimate "professional delineated" he told me that he had good feelings about this person and that he he seemed to be very honest so he thought that was a good idea to hire him to rebuild our pool. My husband signed the "well written contract" in January. Accordingly to the contract, they were going to begin the project on February 17th and was supposed to be done by March the 24th. This was only on paper. After many arguments between my husband and I in reference to this project and the specifications in the contract, my husband contacted and contacted the company and someone show up to drain the pool. A week later, someone came to remove the hoses from the empty pool and to add yellow warning tape around the pool. 2 weeks later 2 guys came to begin the tearing of the existing plaster. To make a long story short, this is May 23rd and the job isn't finished. I have some trash in my backyard that has been left there for 2 weeks, there is plaster dust all around the pool and I have no idea when this is going to be totally done. Older review: Would have given more stars, but two things. One, they were never on time and some days wouldn't even show up. Both my husband and I have busy full time jobs so its extremely frustrating and unprofessional when contractors don't show up when they say they would. This happened more than a few times! Two, the concrete around our pool was damaged from the workers while they were cutting the coping. We now have deep cut marks in our concrete. Even after asking Coral Pools to come and see what they can do to help repair, there was no follow up nor any attempt to rectify this. An update - I added a star after Anthony called me. He saw my one star review and asked if I can take it down because it hurts his small, family owned business and they're not a big multi-million dollar company. I understand all that, but I'm not going to praise and rave and make it a 5 star review just because he called me back after a one star. Yes, they sent an estimate (2 and half weeks after at the consultation and after I had to call asking about it) but it was sent to the wrong email - that's not my fault. I even called a couple days later from the day the estimate was sent because I had not received it. It was only the following week that Anthony called me, asked about the estimate and realized he had my email address wrong. At this time I had already written the poor Yelp review and today he calls about it asking me to change it or take it down. Like I stated before, he was the first one to come for a consultation. He had a one week advance start to the other companies who quoted us bids within a few days or a week at most. All but Coral came back with estimates without me having to call and ask for it. I also want to add that the estimate was incomplete and didn't have a major component that we wanted to change and I just don't have the time to wait for an updated estimate if it took nearly 3 weeks just to get my first one. I expected a more prompt response and better communication given that they're not a big company. read more

Working with Coral Pool and Spa was beyond frustrating from beginning to end. I do NOT recommend hiring this unprofessional company. Anthony provided us with some general information about the job we were hiring them for. When we would ask for specifics after having already signed their contract, he often seemed annoyed and was not particularly friendly. He wouldn't respond to emails in a timely manner and would only answer some of our questions. Eventually, I got fed up with his lack of professionalism and stopped contacting him and started contacting Jose, who is the owner. I was hopeful his communication would be better but I can't say it was any less challenging. When the project started, we hadn't moved into the house yet and needed to provide entry on days of work. Jose didn't provide a schedule even after I had asked for some sort of advance notice on what days they would be there. Communication with him about days and times of work had to be initiated by me and I usually wouldn't find out until very late the night before or even the morning of. We had to reach out multiple times to get basic information as none would ever be initially provided by them throughout the entire process. Their workmanship was very poor and sloppy. For example they had to come back and redo/repair some sections of the grout work on our tile within the first month as they did a terrible job the first time. Prior to hiring Coral Pool and Spa, we had a brand new pool heater installed which was working perfectly until Coral hooked up a new automation system they sold us. It completely stopped working, and Coral took no responsibility and was unresponsive regarding the issue. When the job was "completed", there was little to no clean up. Debris, plaster, and trash were left everywhere. We emailed Jose about this multiple times about when someone would come back to clean. The issues were again ignored and we were left to clean up after them ourselves. It looks like there are many similar reviews about this unprofessional company. The Pool team worked very well with Stamped concrete team so they could finish the pool deck when needed in the middle of Pool work. 3. Team were very open to changes and Jose Mejia made sure all the change requests were happily implemented at lowest cost. 4. Team provided detailed information on our new Pool equipment running on our iPhones that made us very happy. All we can say is WOW! From design to dig, to step by step installation of the latest Hayward equipment, Jose Mejia's Coral Pool team were professional, caring, on budget and this was during a pandemic and with them having multiple projects at the same time! The responsiveness to detail and answering questions from us retirees, who watched daily as the work was being done, was exceptional. They worked with the city inspectors and took care of all that paperwork on top of it. We now have a beautiful, efficient, state of the art rectangular 16 x 34 pool with auto cover and solar heating, and cannot be happier. On top of that, they were the lowest bid!
