When we needed the pool in our new home renovated quickly, Ed Padilla responded promptly and made an appointment with me. He took his time explaining the proposed project to me and answering my questions. The project started a few weeks later. This was much sooner than other companies were able to start. I visited their store near downtown San José to see all of my tile options. Claudia was helpful in that process. When the work began, the crews were professional and clean, with no down days (except weekends of course). Ed and Claudia kept in good communication with me, and also referred me to two good companies for leak detection and pool chemical treatment. In the end, we love how our pool looks. read more

We had an excellent experience re-plastering our pool. Ed came out and gave a very fair estimate that included many things that we had not thought of. When my wife and I could not make a decision on tile by just looking in the catalogs we were given, we made an appointment to go to Ed's place of business. He met us on time and spent close to an hour with us discussing different types of tile and the pros and cons of each for our pool. Ed and Claudia could not have been more hospitable and helpful. We left very comfortable with the tile we were choosing. The schedule we agreed upon was met at each point, with a slight delay because of special tile we wanted that was not in stock. All of Padilla's crews were friendly, polite and worked very efficiently and cleaned up as best they could from demolishing, to tile to plastering. They plaster job was done in a 1/2 day and the filling of the pool started immediately. I am very disappointed with their service. I called last week to make an appointment for today, 11/7/18 at 0930. At 0920, 11/7/18 I get a call from Padilla Pools - CLAUDIA - and she has the audacity to tell me, "um, ya, we don't work on pool liners. Are you going to do a full demo/remodel..because, we don't work on pool liners!" I explained to CLAUDIA I spoke to another representative who set the appointment and qualified me for the consultation of their service. CLAUDIA said, "um, ya, and, we don't do liners!"...again! At this point i'm thinking if were having a discrepancy from the start this is a HORRIBLE sign from CLAUDIA. My concerns: 1) Why would CLAUDIA call me ten minutes before our appointment to try and qualify me over the phone? 2) Thanks for wasting my time! 3) CLAUDIA was unprofessional, rude, and seemed unintelligent of the big picture at hand. 4) If i'm going to spend up to 20K on a pool project, i'd expect a better customer service experience. My grandma had this pool remodeling service done to her back yard in July 2020 and is very unhappy. The pool wall is coming apart and the pavers are lifting and are uneven. The job also took several weeks longer than originally stated. She paid 60,000 dollars to have this complete. Since January 2021 she has been trying to contact them to come repair the damages of the wall and Claudia has said every week I am on schedule and they never show up, It is now July of 2021 and she has not gotten anything fixed or even looked at . I do not recommend this company to anyone. I do recommend to spend your money elsewhere. read more

So if you have a dirty pool, don't call Padilla. But if you want a pool that could get dirty and you are starting with dirt, give them a shout! It took me a while to get to this review. I reached out to Anthony (Tony) back in 2013, and he did my re-plastering for a pool that really needed it. There is strange marking in the shallow end but he informed me this is normal, so I will take his word for it. So far the plaster has been holding up. Overall, Tony is professional and wants to do the right thing. The company uses a lot of sub contractors, which is fine by me. Recently, I need my backyard decking redone. I have been asking him for 2-years now and each time he says he is busy. It is unfortunate that he does not consider catering to returning business. I hope he eventually does reach out to me and considers my project -- I have been patiently waiting for 2-years! He even blew off my parents project after he visited the home and told them he would get back to them with a formal proposal! read more

Like anyone getting a re-plaster it's just not something you have any experience with so you end up combing the Internet hoping for the best or find a friend of a friend who has had his pool resurfaced. I read all the Yelp reviews and many other sites multiple times. Last year I had a bid done from a nice enough guy from a web site (we'll have three guys call you, two actually did and only one showed up) and was a little surprised at the price considering he was not going to replace the tile. I needed this and that and a new drain etc.... It was much more than I thought and not in the budget. This year I got a couple names from a pool guy and Padilla's was the first one I called. Ed was on site exactly on time one day later. Super guy as referenced in other posts. He knew exactly what I was looking for, and with new tiles, new drain cover and a five year warranty (not 2 like my other bid) the price was significantly better then the last bid so there was no need to call anyone else. An easy decision. Work was done as scheduled, they had a start-up guy to recommend (Larry) and I contracted with him to get the pool started. Another very straight-up guy and I couldn't be happier with his work and some additional system repairs I needed that he did. Can't wait to put the pool cover on next week and start the solar, swim season is sure to start early this year read more

I have never written a single bad review, but Padilla Pool is so horrible that I'm compelled to warn others. I actually hired Padilla Pool partly based on the reviews on Yelp. Don't deal with Padilla Pool if you value your sanity and hard earned money. Not only the quality of work is questionable, they are completely unprofessional when it comes to communication and showing up for appointments, to completely ignoring you when you ask them to complete warranty work. I spent $50k+ to have them remodel my pool and the hardscape around it. Within 4 months of project completion, we had 3 massive leaks due to broken return pipes. Had to pay them an additional $1,500 to get the leaks fixed. Within 12 months of the leak being repaired, one side of the pavers slowly collapsed. The walkway which is far away from the pool and the leak also became uneven. About a 3 feet length of bullnose coping also came detached from the pool. I also just found out I have a leaking skimmer. I asked them to do the repair (I supposedly have a 2-year warranty on the remodel work) and even agreed to pay an additional $2,500 as I believe the drought partially contributed to the collapse. They agreed to do the work but took 7 months of endless phone calls and emails from me before their contractor showed up. The contractor closed the gaps between the pavers, but left the pavers un-leveled, sloping downhill. When I asked the workers to level the hardscape, they claimed Padilla Pool didn't specify that in the scope of work. They stopped work immediately and left because they weren't able to get authorization from Padilla Pool to fix things correctly. I had to call and email Padilla Pool many times to ask what was going on and when will they come back and finish the work. After endless phone calls and emails, and two appointments where they never showed up, they have gone completely unresponsive and I'm now stuck with: 1. A pool that has a crack in it and is leaking 2. A hardscape that is sloping downhill 3. A walkway that is uneven 4. Coping that has come loose and fallen off 5. A leaking skimmer 6. A step and some tiles around it that have cracked On top of all this horrible results, the experience of dealing with them is so unprofessional that as a business owner myself, I don't know how can any business treat their customers like this, let along one that paid them $50k+. 1. Half the time they didn't show up at the time of the appointment. They would tell you they are running late but never show up. I took many days off work just waiting for them. During work the crew would show up on whichever days with no heads up from the office. At times no one would show up for days and no one would call and give me a status. 2. Calling the office is absolutely no use. The ladies at the office always claim to know nothing and promised to call back with an answer, and I think 5% of the time they actually called back. 3. Calling Ed Padilla or sending him text to his mobile number never got an answer or a reply. 4. Sending email is even worse. Almost never got a reply. 5. Basically the only time they would proactively contact me is when they wanted to collect on the invoice. For a customer who has paid $50k on-time and even paid additional money for warranty work. I can't imagine deserving this type of treatment from Padilla Pool. A real disgraceful business. read more

They recently contacted me in March2019, after all the rains to complete the coping. They also overcharged me on some specialty tiles. Do NOT hire these people! read more

I called for an appointment to repair my spa, which was leaking. The receptionist had me leave the sales department a voice message. She said they would call back within 24 hours. 48 hours later, after not getting a phone call, I called them back. Ester apologized and proceeded to schedule an appointment for Friday. I took the day off to meet with them, and other contractors. She called to confirm and to say that one of the owners would be there and was running late, but would arrive around 3:15 pm. He never showed and worse, never called. I called them back and Ester apologized and said he got hung up in a meeting. She tried to reschedule me for another day. I am in the trades and missing an appointment, without calling the customer, is unforgivable. No thanks Padillas, I'll call someone else. read more

Awful, awful work! The most frustrating experience we've ever had. I had my pool redone and all my backyard paved. To be completely honest, the pool job was ok in terms of quality (hence the one star!). The paving part was a completely different story. I don't even know where to start and I don't want to get mad telling the whole story. So here it goes my summary: they took forever to finish the whole job (several weeks to what was agreed in the contract), someone from his team brought a potential client to show our backyard without asking permission to us first and the worst part is that quality was terrible in regards to the paving job. We will have to bring someone else to fix it. I would guess after paying around 30K we would get a decent job, but I was wrong! I don't recommend this company at all. read more

Padilla Pools redid our backyard. They refinished our pool, added a water feature, and removed all the old concrete patio and replaced it with travertine tile. The work was done on time and is of excellent quality. We couldn't be happier with the result. ---- Update: a couple of years after they redid our backyard, we finally decided where we wanted a kinetic sculpture. That required cutting a 3" circular hole in the travertine tile, digging a hole, and cementing in the pole. We dropped by their office and talked to Mr. Padilla. He came right out and did the work (really over and above what we asked). We couldn't have asked for better service . These guys are fantastic! read more

7/12/2012 - We read through many reviews on local pool remodeling companies when we decided to remodel our pool. We decided on Padilla because we love that they do it all... replaster, tile, equipment. They worked with us on our budget, helping us determine what was important to us, what we really needed, and what would get us the best bang for our buck. We went with the 3M Aegean green and it was PERFECT. We also put in a salt chlorine generator system so our pool is now free of chlorine tablets. We love it. A few things to be aware of (which they were very clear about) is that while it took 7 working days for our project, they don't come out every day though. Also, we don't have a pool guy and we didn't fully know how to use the new equipment IE chlorine generator. We also didn't know how to do a start-up for a pool and had to do a lot of quick research and discussions with a pool supply company. The informational sheet provided a nice helpful start, especially the "brush it 2-3x a day". The back of the contract explains that Padilla does not do any start-up so make sure you read up or have a pool guy ready to help. The final product is a beautiful plastered pool with new equipment, ready for start-up. End-all be-all, we are incredibly satisfied with the quality of work and the overall experience. We would definitely recommend Padilla for your project! 12/2/2012 - This is an update to my already great review... it's been 4+ months since I got my pool done. I had troubles with the timer (pool clock to turn on equipment). It kept bending the off buttons, and when it stopped turning off my system, I had had it with the equipment. Knowing at that point that it's a problem with the equipment (the timer box) and not me, I emailed Padilla. I told Padilla about my issue and that it wasn't an emergency so they came out a couple days later on my schedule. The tech agreed that there was something wrong with the timer unit, pulled it out, went back to the office, got a new one, put it in, and reset the pins to where I originally had them. From a business perspective it doesn't make sense, the sale is done, this cost them time, money, possibly even had to pay for the unit out of pocket. This is truly a sign of a company that understands customer service and customer satisfaction. I called Padilla Pools the beginning of August 2016 to get a quote as my wife and I wanted to get a new pool installed in our backyard. Within a week, the owner (or maybe the owner's son) came out, well after he was done, he mentioned I would get a quote within 3 days max (emailed to me), 3 days came and went, nothing. Then another 2 weeks went by, I called, he said oh, give me another week, all-in-all it was a month later (4 weeks) from the time I called, I to this day I "never" got a quote. Padilla pools have done a great job recently at my pool with a re-plaster work. They also did the filling up of the deep side as well. Their estimate came in very reasonable and Ed was very flexible with my budget. When the project started, I got courtesy calls from their office the day prior to their crew would arrive for the work. They require you to make the payment for every stage of the project. My pool was done within a week and looks great. I had a pool filter issue over the following weekend (unrelated to the work) and they sent someone to take a look at it. I was not charged for the time. This is great! Rick and his plastering crew from Pailla Pool did an awsome job with my pool replastering last week. Rick is very professional and honest. The quote is very reasonable and the job is well done. During the demolition phase, they discovered that there is one extra layer of plaster that is underneathe the pool that we did not know of. Both Rick and the crew are so professoinal, they just worked extra hard with no complaints. They got the job done quickly and did an awsome job cleaning up after the demolition!!!!! Choosing a contractor to come in and install a pool is a tough decision. From my experience in hiring contractors these guys were way ahead of the game. They scheduled a window to come out for the bid, and and held their appointment, the front office was easy and responsive to deal with. The workers were respectful and cleaned up any unnecessary mess on a daily basis. It was truly a flawless endeavor. I have recommend Padilla Pools to a few friends and they all feel the same. If you need a pool or want to get some work done on an existing pool, this is the right choice. I truly wish this company the very best, as it is nice top know that companies like this still exist. I never put a bad review on Yelp but I do not want anyone to ever go through the nightmare that I did with this company. The quality of the work was fine and the pool looks great. That was not the issue. Started with Padilla not pulling the proper permits which created huge issues with the city and telling me that I didn't have to because there was no digging in the pool. They were unfamiliar with the rules of the city and did not guide me properly as a contractor should. In addition, what was to be a 6 to 8 week project took nearly one year to get my pool done. There would be times when they would only come for two hours a day and then not show up for a number of days when there was no reason except for they were short staff because some of their staff left. I held them accountable to go back to the city and get the permits done and it was a very unpleasant situation all the way around including them having to move my entire hardware that ran the pool back to where it was originally placed due to changes in rules that they should've been aware of. I hired them to do the pavers as well as the pool as I wanted one company to serve as the contractor and responsible for the entire job. When they demoed they hit the side of my house breaking off a lot of the cement on the side of the house, Used my personal house ladder(eventually they found it and brought it back) and threw away my pool cover rod never replacing it. When the city push back the owner blamed me and said I didn't want to get the permits when it was his responsibility to guide me and tell me what I needed for an $70,000 job. I owe them the last payment and they came to me and asked for a partial payment which I did in good faith and then they disappeared and didn't finish the rest of what they were supposed to do. I had to have other companies come in and correct things that were wrong because they never answered the phone calls back. They ended up getting the permits approved and to my knowledge everything is fine but if I am ever called out by the city it's documented with the city everything that happened. This is a review for work performed by Padilla Pools back in August/September 2013. My original review was written before I had nullified the contract with them and before the Contractors State License Board had responded to my complaint. I am providing a summary of the problems I had with them at that time. I met with Ed Padilla in August. He wrote up a contract/estimate for the job. It was missing many items that were verbally told would be done but became an issue later on. (Note to self - Always get it in writing!!!) - Completion of work date (Verbally told it would take 4-6 weeks to complete. Once they started the job and tore up my backyard, their workers stopped coming. This became an ongoing headache for over 3 weeks where about 5 days of actual work was done.) - Permits for the work (They verbally told me they would pull the permits and give me a receipt for the cost from the city. They illegally began work on the job without permits. When I later found out the permits were missing and questioned them, they wanted an additional $2000 for plans and permits. After our contract was nullified, I ended up pulling the permits myself at a cost of under $500). - Materials were not detailed on the contract. (They tried to change materials and increase cost of materials for the job) - Ed Padilla was not listed as a salesperson for Padilla Pools with the Contractors State License Board. Per the CSLB, Ed was not authorized to even sell the job or negotiate the contract. - Their workers ran a tractor into my less than 1 year old A/C condenser. They damaged the outside and bent some cooling fins. They did not tell me about this and even tried to bend the metal back to cover their damage. - The concrete and brick that was demo'd was supposed to be hauled away. After the contract with them was terminated, I found the majority of this debris buried under the dirt in my yard. I had to pay someone to sift the dirt and remove the debris so there was clean dirt to fill the trenches. There is more, but I am trying to keep this short. I eventually contacted the CSLB and also left Padilla Pools a message that I no longer wanted to do business with them. Christina responded and agreed to nullify the contract if I paid them for the work they did. I literally paid them off to get rid of the nightmare. Based on my experience, I would absolutely never recommend them. read more

This review is long overdue. Padilla's replastered our pool over 2 years ago. Everything went as scheduled and we were pleased with the work. However, our pool just never looked right. No matter how much chlorine or acid or brushing, it looked like it had never been cleaned. Finally we called to complain and they immediately came out to see for themselves. Apparently the cement they used was the cause. After trying to correct the problem by sand blasting, Padilla's Pool completely did the whole job over. Now we have a beautiful pool. It is so nice having a family owned company that stand behind their work. We highly recommend this company. read more

Dear Padilla Pools, I wanted to provide some feedback regarding my overall experience with your pool company. My wife and I had decided in January 2011 to get our swimming pool (which we had installed in 1991) remodeled. We wanted new water level tile, stair tile, Jacuzzi tile as well as a total re-plastering of the pool. We looked all over the internet and spoke to friends and family about who we could get to perform the work. After that long process I remembered always seeing this pool company which sits on West Hedding St in San Jose between North 1st street and Coleman Ave over the past few years. It was Padilla Pools. So I called the office and set-up an appointment to have an estimate done on the re-modeling work. Within a week a gentleman by the name of Ed Padilla visited our home to give us an estimate. He had the classic behaviors to nail down a top notch impression on both my wife and myself. He was ultra friendly, cordial, respectful, very knowledgeable and most of all he treated the both of us as if we were his only clients. He listened very attentively, gave us "all" the options, best part of all he wasn't at all pushy and really let us be in control of the entire visit. He answered all our questions or concerns in a very efficient and effective manner. The visit lasted about an hour; he left us with a nice brochure of his company and pool options, our estimate and was on his way. I had the feeling that he would have stayed as long as we needed him to stay, because that was his personality. We did get two more estimates; however, those visits were short and to the point, we'll do this, do this, do that for this and out the door. Ed's lasting impressions lead us to doing business with Padilla Pools. Ed had us come to his office on a weekend (I think it was not the norm, just nice of him to do) to look at tile and other options as well as lay out a firm estimate. We were there about 1 1/2 hours. No pressure, only his unbiased opinion on his experiences in the past with other pool owners and what they did. After that visit we were set to go. The crew folks that did the demo work were very nice. They treated our home with a lot of respect and they were friendly people as well. The demo was completed within 1 day. The next step was to tile the water line and the Jacuzzi to pool dam wall. The two gentlemen that did the work were very nice as well and very hard working. They completed the tile within a day and the tile job was beautiful. They too treated us as if we were their only customer. The one thing that was great was that we were so undecided on what kind of plaster to do, regular plaster finish or quartz finish that Ed just let us have all the time we needed to make a decision. He did provide some influence on us saying that quartz was a better finish and would give us the best look and last the longest against the chemical treatments over the years. So we went with white with blue speckle quartz. Best move we could ever have made. The plastering crew showed up and the customer service did not skip a beat. They showed up early, worked very efficiently, they were friendly and they really did some great work. They left us with rules to follow and cleaned everything up and left our yard as if they didn't even work that day. It took our pool a day to fill and it looks absolutely gorgeous. We settled on Black Tile / Blue Speckled Quartz Plaster. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone thinking of having any pool work or installation done on their home. The experience was everlasting and we will be forever grateful to Ed and the team for providing us excellent customer service in the field as well as in the office with their office staff who were very friendly and accommodating. Not to mention we have a beautiful end product to show off to all our friends and family. Thank you all for a job more then well done. Padilla Pools did an excellent job with my pool repair / remodel. Rick Padilla handled everything very professionally and with great personal service. The pool was drained, the plumbing completely replaced, and then the pool was remodeled with new plaster, tile and coping. I am extremely happy with the result. The family has been in the business a long time and has a lot of experience, which was evident. I also had very good service at the main office with Esther, who was extremely helpful. (This review was written two years but only posted now because I did not realize I did not confirm my email on yelp -- I am slightly updating the review to be more positive as over time the work felt better, I will give it a 3.5 star if Yelp had that option). Let me be objective and review both pros and cons of Padilla Pools. First the good. We really liked the owner Ed. He came across being very smart and very approachable. His father also came along once who was really nice. We felt Ed was a very good problem solver, very creative and had many good ideas and a good sense of design. Their bid was competitive in comparison to another one we got. The work products were overall very good, except a leak around the equipment area that was not understood (and seemed to have gone away later) and a few pavers that became uneven later -- perhaps should be expected. The challenge lies in project management that went up and down overtime. Communication at times was very difficult and very frustrating. I could not always reach Ed, and did not feel we should bother him too much considering how many customers he may have to serve. His voice mail also directs us to the office. However communications with the office were very difficult most of the time. Esther is usually impatient on the phone. Issues were rarely followed-up till we bring them up again and again. We never knew what would happen by when. We often did not know critical constructions details, such as what size and shape of the equipment were, till they become facts and then we realized they were not what we wanted or agreed to. They would redo it, but they would charge us for the wasted time. Often the office promised to get back to me on issues, schedule, or to do's then ignore their promise and never had a closure till I brought them up again. For example I sent them 5 outstanding problems, the office would check off two of them, but never said anything about the rest. Overall it feels the office could not keep up with their work, or has a very low standard of communication and project management, or simply gave us an very low priority. We regret that there was no timeline signed in the contract. The city was unhelpful with their confused permit guidelines and directions, which caused some delay of the project. Again, there are still many aspects of the company and the project we do like. Two years later and in comparison to other remodeling and contractor work, I think Padilla Pools were not too bad. Just wish the communications and project management were better and easier. It would also help if the contract was more detailed and more clear in expectation of schedule etc. read more

Renovating this pool has been an awful experience and would not recommend Padilla pool period. I am glad someone had good service because we did not. Workers rarely cleaned up, the front office was very rarely responsive nor seemed to remember phone calls, emails, photos sent or simply what needed to be done. Scheduling was a joke! We would be told a crew was to arrive only to have no shows. The front office seemed to be out of the loop most of the time. It appeared communication was absent between contractors and the front office and as a result us. Once the pool was completed, no one walked the project to make sure everything was working correctly or to tell us how to operate the new equipment. We called the office .... dead silence, no return call. Requested paperwork necessary to apply for the equipment credits and that took multiple calls. One of the spa jets did not work correctly, come to find out, they should have been replaced when all the new plumbing was done. We thought it was. As a result, a new fitting has been glued in and now we can only hope it will last. From start to finish it has been a challenge working with Padilla Pools, their office and their contractors. We selected this company because Ed was knowledgeable and prompt when he came out to give a bid, but once demolition started and the project began, it has been a horrible, exasperating experience. read more

I believe this company would have a 5 star rating except for those who either did not do their research as to what type of company this is or actually had worked performed rather than writing a review based on a mixup or human error such as an unreturned phone call. Com'n! But I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion... My experience has been more in line with the last reviewer. We called Padilla Pool on Feb. 29 and Ed was at our house on March 2. He spent almost 2 hours with us going over our options. We told him basically what we wanted and he made suggestions that would actually save us money. We have a 45 year old pool that is 12 feet deep and is hard to clean with our antiquated equipment, uses tons of water, hard to heat (we have solar too), and uses too much electricity because of its inefficiency. What impressed us was Ed's ability to look at the big picture. There was absolutely no pressure and he gave us prices for all our options and let us decide which way to go. He did not steer us to the most expensive plaster or decking but explained the advantages of each. Sure we could have gone with a basic white plaster (which we did 15 yrs ago) and done nothing else,but in looking at the big picture, we are getting a better finish with a longer lifespan that is more durable. Our pool will be up to code and the filtration system will be more efficient, both in energy efficiency as well as cleaning efficiency. We will never have to do this again, at least in our lifetime! So we decided to fill in the 12 foot end to bring the depth up to 8 feet--pool will heat up faster. We are widening the steps into more of a platform, making for a safer entry. We are putting in new decking and coping, and updating our filter system. No spa, no fancy water features.. We are keeping our original tiles which are in good shape. By the end of the day, we had received a callback with our start date. BTW, we did get another estimate from a large company, but it was a 20 min, in and out visit, with the estimate sent by email. After talking with Ed, we realized that we would have made a costly mistake by just going with the plaster job, because we would have ended up getting nickeled and dimed by doing the various repairs piecemeal. This way the job is done once and done right. The one thing that attracted me into calling Padilla in the first place is that they are a family run company and all the work is done in-house.
