I was planning to do a re-model, so I asked around and was recommended to SJ Pools. Adam is great. Very professional. I asked him to do an estimate. Adam came over had a very though overview of all my pool equipment and spent a great deal of time to educate me and tell me how should I run my pool and what is what since I am the first time pool owner. I really appreciate his great patience and professional attitude. He gave me a very good price and discussed several options with me. Due to my personal reasons, I didn't do the remodel this time. I've never received any contact from their office since the initial request despite numerous attempts. I hired SJ Pools to do my pool a couple years ago. While the re-plaster work was decent - no better or worse than any other pool company I suspect - the follow up service from SJ Pools has been absolutely abysmal. Adam doesn't follow up and doesn't return text or phone messages. 1) After hiring them to do the pool, we contracted with their pool cleaning service and there wasn't clarity on which day they were coming. We dumped them after a week primarily because their communication was so poor and they didn't set the right expectation. 2) I've tried to get Adam here on several occasions to fix the pool light which went out after two years. He told me it wasn't working due to lack of use. Light's go out because they don't get used? Huh? 3) Since then, I've attempted to Adam back to reroute the junction box he originally told me didn't need to be moved and was grandfathered to stay where it was which is causing the issue with the light due to water leakage in the junction box. Another pool contractor told me it wouldn't have passed inspection. 4) When I asked Adam when we could get this on the calendar his text was a two work reply - 'next week". That week has come and gone and I've not heard a peep. When I pinged him with a text and a voicemail over the weekend, asking to schedule a time he hasn't replied. BTW - this is something he's getting paid for. It's not like he's got to comeback and do the work for free. Communication and expectation setting are severely lacking. Adam doesn't return text or phone messages. I can't recommend SJ Pools to anyone. read more

Adam came out a few days after my initial call, spent some time with me and made some recommendations for my pool that was in really bad shape. We went with the pebbletec Tahoe Blue and it really came out beautiful. SJ Pools did a great job and their price was in line with other quotes I had received. My husband and I bought a house last year with a hot tub. We were told it was working and when we tried it out discovered the heater was broken. Well, a year later we are finally getting around to getting it fixed! My husband did a lot of research trying to figure out if he could fix it himself, but it seemed like a lot of hassle. Plus, he had me bugging him and asking him how long it would take if he fixed it himself! So he did an online quote with several companies and SJ Pools gave us the best deal. Adam came out and checked out the heater and spa and said they could come a replace it that day! He brought us a brand spankin' new heater (and even upgraded to the nicer model for the same price) and within 3 hours or so they had finished the install. I know nothing about hot tubs, so after the install was done he talked about how to work it and explained some different things that needed to be looked at. One of my hugest pet peeves is when car mechanics or in this case hot tub installers, act like I'm stupid and don't explain stuff, but he didn't do that. Adam was great and explained how the heater works and what we could do to extend the life of it. We also need a new hot tub cover which he said they could help us with as well once we were ready (one thing at a time!). As they were finishing up he fixed a box with the switches for the hot tub to the fence, it was old looking and falling down. They cleaned and spray painted it black so it would look a bit better. Pool resurfacing is not nice. Its not nice in several ways. First, it's expensive. As in, "This is how I spent all my savings this year. Second, its noisy and dirty, Very noisy and dirty. And third, you most likely have endured the annoyance of the green algae pool-swamp. Its a common affliction when pools age. Our neighborhood of older homes has been hit hard by an outbreak of slimy green pools. So it was time to invest in a pool makeover, as no amount of chlorine could help and the only one to set foot in the murky water was an accidental splash by the cat, followed by a much hated bath. We found SJ Pools on Yelp. Adam and everyone at SJ pools was very nice, appeared knowledgeable and had great ideas for turning this yuck pond into something to again be proud of. He set to work at once, and we were instructed to choose tiles, and finish. I love how it turned out, and I appreciate the guidance we received. It was no surprise that the wiring was not up to code. We ended up paying a little more to have all the wiring upgraded to the pool and hot tub. It was not in the original estimate, but after Adam pointed out the dangers of shoddy workmanship from previous owners amateur Home Improvement endeavors, it was time to do it right. Our pool is gorgeous, and so much better than I had imagined. It is once again inviting and is even stylish in it's curvy, almost mid-century Kidney shape. Because of its curvy design, and now modern blue-gray tiles, its quite hip, making it necessary to invest in patio furniture to complete the transformation. Did I spend more than the original estimate. Heck, yes! Am I unhappy about this? Not at all. The additional work was necessary. My only complaint is that Adam at times would get delayed while doing several pools this summer. I would have deducted a star for that but he regained it when he noticed the freshly laid cement was not the best. They spent 2 extra days sandblasting the new cement, and redoing it. That is excellent workmanship and shows attention to detail. The dirt is all swept away, the savings sunk under 25,000 gallons of water, and the pool is pristine Caribbean blue. I am ready for a Mai-Tei poolside! read more

My pool pump stopped working so I needed a replacement. I had a difficult time getting anyone I called to respond to me. Adam was quick to respond, came and checked out my pool and the equipment, and gave me a quote for both a new pump and replacement filter that was up to date versus my old DE Filter that was not very efficient. His price for everything along with instillation was the better than the other quotes I did eventually get, and he set my new equipment up in a manner that created more room in my pool equipment area than I had previously (so if I eventually want to add a heater or other equipment I can). He did such a great job that I decided it was time to retire from taking care of the pool myself, and his company will now be taking care of all my pool maintenance from here on out. If you have any pool needs at all (new equipment, remodel, new build, monthly maintenance / cleaning, etc.) do yourself a favor and give Adam a call. You won't regret it. read more

I had an appointment, made 2 weeks prior, for a quote on a pool re-surfacing. 30 minutes prior to appointment I received a call that said I was to far away. I am a 15 minute drive from their office, even the receptionist agreed with me and did not understand the issue. Bottom line, he was busy and did not want to come for the appointment. Adam and his team did the complete re-model of our back yard. The original pool and tub were a complete mess, the landscaping consisted of a concrete nightmare (3 feet deep of concrete and brick which Adam spent 2+ wks with his digger removing) and the old BBQ was falling down. They transformed it. Adam has a great eye for style and his many years of experience really shows. He has really good guys working for him. They laid all the pavers and the drainage and did a great job. Despite the storms this winter and torrents of rain, the pavers drained perfectly, no pools of water, no blocks, they really know what they were doing when they did this. Adam did a custom pool finish which was Tahoe Blue with abalone shell and blue glass, looks superb, worth the extra $ over a plain white plaster finish. We chose SJ Pools as we felt Adam spent the time to understand what we really wanted, the price was very reasonable and he has a great personality. Thanks Adam! read more
