I'm always shopping in the Church St. area of Montclair and I've passed by Leone's a few times and I thought "Huh, I'd like to give that a shot." WELL GUESS WHO DID, Y'ALL. So I'm with my boo-thing for some lunch and we made a great decision when it came to Leone's. We're seated in a loft area that overlooks one of the dining rooms and the place is adorable. I like to think of it as a "Bootlegger's 1920's Escape to Tuscany for a Sunday Afternoon". Something simple, y'know? So we ordered appetizers and we got the Mozzarella Carrozza. This combined my two favorite things: Cheese and Carbs. It was literally mozzarella baked in between two pieces of crunchy, warm bread with marinara sauce to dip. I enjoy the simple things in life and this was perfect. I wanted a basket of these. For the main dish we both decided to get the Tuscany Panini which was the lunch special for the day. It's a panino with grilled chicken, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, broccoli rabe and balsamic vinegar served with a house salad. After biting into this sandwich, I could actually hear Vivaldi's "Primavera" playing in my head. It was that good. It was crunchy, filling and it had the perfect balance of flavor between all of the ingredients. The broccoli rabe give it a little kick but the peppers and mozzarella soothed it. Personally, I loved Leone's and I definitely see myself going back here. Service was a little slow and that's the reason why I'm giving it 4/5, but honestly do not let that stop you. read more

I like Leone's bc the guy/owner, seems like a genuinely nice person n wants to genuinely want to please the customers...would have thought them being on the food network channel or something to improve their food, decor and restaurant would make a difference but I guess it was only for show...even saw tears from the grandma...but it didn't seem it change anything for the restaurant ...service is hit or miss...waiter/waitress are nice, just not very attentive, not very good...this last time, he served us eggplant, my daughter actually hates eggplant, the next table didn't mind the mix up n ate up my daughters lasagna. Owner guy apologized and we got lasagna a little later but it was a sad portion...4 forkful bites ..portion should be more generous. For example, their lunch special-granted it is lunch, is very small for $8 meat lasagna - it really took my 9 yr old four bites to eat it, cut in half then half again-it was gone Chicken was dry and very thin on the chicken parm and spaghetti, which I got linguini by the way...I really didn't enjoy my dish. I should have grabbed the mistaken eggplant order n sent back the chicken parm I would go back bc food is not atrocious. Terrible service.They dont know how to treat their customers.They don't even say thank you for anything. They don't keep seating and tables clean.My brother had to throw his jean to trash because he sat on something!! Used to come here all of the time after school on my way home to grab a quick slice. However, after a few years, I have had two too many racially fueled experiences here. Two summers ago I was inside waiting for my slice to come out of the oven, and there was a group of African-American teenage girls eating pizza they had just bought from the restaurant outside. One of the older white women working there said to another older woman, "Those loud ghetto black girls outside are ruining our business," and the other woman laughed. I could not BELIEVE she would say something like this, especially because the girls were being nothing but respectful and I am a young black woman myself. The girls were not being loud in the slightest, and nothing about them was ghetto. I guess except for their skin color. I immediately left and said that I would never support their business again, and I began to tell my friends and family about what I had just witnessed. I went back over this past summer because I was hanging out at Church St. and wanted a pasta slice while I was shopping. I assumed that they had changed, and after my friend got a Playa Bowl to go, we went across the street and I ordered a slice and my friend purchased a drink. As soon as we sat down at one of the outside tables, one of the waitresses started making a scene, telling my friend to leave for bringing outside food to the restaurant and said that if she was going to have outside food neither of us was allowed to sit at their table. This made no sense to us because my friend was not eating the outside food, and even though she had bought a drink from Leone's and I had bought pizza, they wouldn't allow either of us to stay. What blew my mind the most was that there were two younger white girls sitting at a table next to us, and one of them had a Playa Bowls bag as well but no one questioned them or told them that they were not allowed to eat there. And yes, my friend is black. Very disappointed in this establishment, and people should not give places that have visibly racist workers any money. read more

Was really excited to eat here while in the area. Was highly disappointed by the terrible service. My friend and I sat down and had to flag down a waitress to order our beverages. We also had to ask them to remove a bin of dirty dishes sitting next to our table outside. We ordered our food and was served our salad starter. After 30 minutes of waiting a waitress (not our original one) came by and asked "has anyone told you?" We were confused. She then explained that there was an issue in the kitchen and that our food was not being prepared and there was nothing they could do. We left...hungry...after 45 minutes of wasted time. I came here for an engagement party, so the menu was limited. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown, Montclair, which is nice. The parking on that street is one hour maximum so I had to recharge the meter a few times. It has plenty of outdoor seating in the front, and is very spacious inside. The restaurant is very casual, but clean and nicely decorated with black and white framed photographs. There are a few dining rooms and a more casual pizzeria section. I had the house salad, rolled fresh mozzarella slices and tomatoes appetizer, and fried calamari appetizer. For my meal, I ordered the chicken francais. The salad was ok. The dressing could have used a bit more flavor. The mozzarella and tomatoes were both fresh. The calamari was the best thing I had there. The calamari was cooked perfectly and coated with an asian sweet ginger sauce. It was unique and worked really well. The francais was also very good. It was served over linguini which was cooked very well too. The servers were good and brought warm bread to the table which was nice. I would definitely be back. read more

Although I do greatly enjoy Leone's and will continue to come for authentic Italian dinners, many of the waitress' can be abrupt, rude and not give you a pleasurable experience. They definitely need to work on their staff; your staff is the face of your business. However - waiter and delivery boy Steve is a delight and we always request him as our waiter. The older lady that always does the register told me hers " keeps falling off" thats total bs! I hate people on Yelp who just rant about their service experience but this was simply the worst service I've ever had. Sat outside on a beautiful day. Waitress came up to us barely acknowledging us to get our drinks, took our order walked away before we could even finish asking for sides and then literally ignored us.
