I was not told it had to be done before closing that day. I worked until 9pm and was not able to come and unlock it and leave the lock and keys until this morning at approximately 6:30 am. I received a call from Public Storage this morning saying since it is the 1st of the month I will have to pay an entire months worth of rent since I had not taken the lock off and returned the keys yesterday AND had I given them a heads up this would not have happened! I did call yesterday!! Charging people a whole months worth of rent for bringing the keys back on the 1st is ridiculous and very poor business practice! What ever happened to pro rating, you don't charge people a full months rent when they move in on the 10th or 15th, you pro rate it. I would be happy to pay for 1 days rent on the unit but asking me to pay an entire months rent on an empty unit when the keys were returned on the 1st is RIDICULOUS!!!! I noticed the store door was open, so I walked in to ask for help after hearing the phone line had a 45-minute wait. That's when Scarlett shouted at me--yes, shouted--"We're closed!" There was no greeting, no explanation, just immediate hostility. I calmly explained the situation and was relieved when another employee, Brenese, stepped in. She kindly explained that the system was down and gave clear, helpful instructions on how to proceed with our drop-off. Her tone was professional, calm, and understanding--exactly what you hope for when something isn't working and you need guidance. Meanwhile, Scarlett continued to simmer in the background, muttering a passive-aggressive "AND because we're closed" under her breath--just loud enough to hear. When I asked her to repeat herself, she doubled down with the same tone. I told her directly, "You don't need to be so rude," because the truth is, she was extremely rude, unnecessarily aggressive, and completely unprofessional. When we toured the facility and locked in a space turns out the office manager told us that's only the online pricing that's not what they actually offer. Then we agreed to a new price and continue to move forward. Then the next month after we had declined the insurance they charged the additional $40 for the insurance. After we went into the office to discuss the additional unauthorized charges, they only removed one months worth of the charge. Now it is July, and we received a notice in the mail stating that our storage unit was now $242 a month when we had originally agreed on a price of $120. The hundred dollar increase is absolutely outrageous. I don't think this manager or company understands at all what customer service means. When we try to ask about the pricing increase the gentleman behind the desk told us he could bring it down to $205. Why the price increase if they're able to change the price on site? Whatever standards or benchmarks that they're using to justify this pricing increase seems fabricated. When we told them we wanted to end our services with them, the gentleman behind the desk, said that we needed to be out that same day. After paying for an entire billing cycle and our billing was not to renew until August 9. It seems as though this company is committing theft because we've paid for the entire billing cycle. Please stay away from this company they do not care about customer service. It seems they only want to grease their pockets.
