Lena's Italian Kitchen is one of the very few places that serves all beef meatballs (you'd be surprised how hard they are to find). I called ahead of ordering to confirm the meatballs were beef and the staff was helpful. They told me the appetizer portion comes with large meatballs. They were not exaggerating. I was surprised and pleased with the portion I got. It was a great value. Five large meatballs with ricotta and a side of bread. Online you have the option to ask for ricotta on the side. For me, the biggest draw was the portion size and the fact that these were beef. The seasoning was okay but not incredibly flavorful. I thought it could have used more salt. Maybe it would've been better with to ricotta on top. I'll try that next time. I will say these were not dry though, which is good. I would try them out again.

lunch special- ceasar salad, chicken parmesian half sandwich

A coworker told me about this spot and I decided to give it a try. It's definitely a take out spot since I don't remember seeing any tables to sit. There was no one else in the restaurant and it was very clean. I had ordered my lunch special of Caesar salad and the half sandwich-chicken parmigiana over the phone and walked in and just paid for the food with no wait. They had a variety of lunch special items to choose from and they were very affordable. I ate my food at my desk and was in heaven. Everything was nice and fresh. The salad was delicious and the fulfilling. My bread from the sandwich was nice and soft and the meat was very tasty. I am shocked I couldn't eat everything and had leftovers for later. This is a spot I will definitely check out again for some other menu items.

Meatballs

I ordered doordash and was disappointed with my order. The Meatballs had no flavor and really just tasted like the tomato sauce it came with. The garlic bread was alright but I can get better from the frozen section. Would not order here again.

When I'm craving delicious authentic Italian food stat, but lack the initiative/skill/space to prepare it, Lena's Italian Kitchen comes to mind. My personal faves are their pecan salad made with honey spiced pecans, cranberries and gorgonzola cheese, chicken marsala swimming in fresh mushroom gravy (yum!); and penne pasta with garlic/oil and broccoli rabe. Pastas are offered in side or full portions, the side portion is shareable if added to an entree. I like that items are fully customizable, so it's super easy to substitute or limit/add ingredients to your liking. Lena's offers a half priced menu during "appy hour" from 4-6 on weekdays, as well as a discount for ordering directly through their website (rather than a third party app like GHub). Food is packed nicely in microwaveable containers for takeout, and they throw in complementary fresh rolls. Delivery is generally prompt, but when ordering direct they don't offer online tracking which is a minor downside for OCD people like me. Open 11-6 daily, except closed Saturdays. Mangia bene!

Very quick, huge servings, delicious. Needs a lot of salt but I'm ok with that. Will definitely be getting takeout again

Great take out when you're craving straightforward Italian food. Me and my friends love to order and share different pasta dishes. The food comes quick, serving size is good, and everything is fresh and hot. My favorite is the carbonara and the garlic/oil! I think marinara is a little plain but it is balanced nicely with any richer sauced pasta or with a protein. I wish they had space for dining in!

"Grilled chicken"

My 5th time eating here but this one timeeee and most likely my last time, really disgusted me. I ordered pasta fiorentina but swapped out the baked for grill "chicken".... Yea wasn't great, very chewy, PINK, and translucent. Grossed me out bad! Entire appetite is gone. Please have the cooks evaluate the meats they're preparing. This looks like a science projectPasta Fiorentina

Chicken marsala. Lots of sauce to dip bread.

This is a take out restaurant. The guys working were so helpful. They could tell it was our first time and brought out empty containers to show us portion sizes so we could decide what we wanted to share vs eat alone. The food was ready in 15 minutes and well packed for our 20 minute walk back. The food was delicious! Fried calamari got steamed a bit from the walk, but with the huge portion of marinara to dip it in, it wasn't a problem. They gave a bag if fresh bread loaves too. Food was all amazing. You can't go wrong.

Pasta Fiorentina

Recently I was at the AMC movie theater on E 32nd and afterwards looked up on Yelp places nearby I could pick up food from & found this place. When I picked it up they had it sitting in a drawer (maybe to keep warm?) in a bag with so many staples in it that once I opened and reached in they scraped my hand to the point of drawing blood (none of the many staples were necessary so they should rethink that). Anyway I ordered the meatball parmigiana platter, the pasta Fiorentina (since all the Yelpers raved about it), and garlic bread. Garlic bread was not good & a waste of money--instead of a fresh loaf spread with butter & real garlic, it looks like they took 2 rolls, halved them and then covered it with cheese, did not see or taste any fresh garlic. The meatballs were just ok, wasn't a big fan of the taste and some were still pink inside! The pasta--while the sauce was pretty good (could use more sauce though) what was disturbing was that some pieces were pink inside (see pic) like it was undercooked--I avoided a lot of the chicken chunks since I didn't want to get sick. The dish had A LOT of chicken & they were thick chunks, so maybe it's too much & not getting cooked thoroughly because of that, who knows. I would have been happier with more of the pasta & sauce & less of the chicken. Also prices were on the higher side for this kind of fare, so I was disappointed I didn't enjoy the food that much relative to what was spent. I will say the quantity was quite large for the main dishes, enough for about 3 meals. So if it was better quality I wouldn't have minded the price. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but if I did I would probably try the chicken parm (going by the pics & reviews it looks good).

Pasta Bolognese

Lena's was running a BOGO deal and I also had an 50% Ubereats voucher, so I ended up getting two full Pasta Bolognese dishes for $16 (Amazing!) when each one was originally $20, which is a pretty fair original price point for NY pasta. The Bolognese itself was quite delicious; a good amount of sauce and veal to pair with a hearty amount of spaghetti and a piece of bread. The dish itself was huge; I was quite full after eating it which honestly doesn't happen too often when I'm getting pasta in the city. I unfortunately didn't go to the restaurant itself so I don't have anything to say about the atmosphere and staff, but hopefully I'll be able to check it out in person sometime! Would recommend this place- especially if they have any more special deals.

Pasta Alfredo

3.5 I enjoyed the food here. It's VERY expensive but I promise it's a huge plate for the price you pay. I had the pasta fiorentina which was delicious. All the reviews said so and they're not wrong. Lots of cheese and a delicious rich sauce. My partner got the Alfredo and added broccoli and chicken and it was not good. The pasta was bland and unseasoned. We got the garlic bread which wasn't amazing but pretty good. I'd recommend trying tht fiorentina. Save your money on the rest

Lena's is basically a fast casual Italian restaurant. It is a small place with only a counter and two stools, so almost all of their business is takeout. I had their penne a la vodka and their chicken parmigiana. Both came in very large portions and were tasty. In terms of quality, it is better than the pasta served at standard pizza spots like a Ray's Pizza. However, like the pasta served at those kind of places, it is greasy, not homemade and overly salty. As long as you are not expecting food you would get at a sit down Italian restaurant though, you will be okay.

Any drawbacks ? youi ask.....well, yes, there is one, and it should be cosnidered. The restaurant is so so so popular that the noise level can be a bit ..... shall we say "daunting." Particularly the penne funghi is to die for. Tried the linguine vongole clam pasta for the first time and was pretty good as well! Just wish there was more sauce and the clams were the tiniest size I've seen which was disappointing and to make matters worse, a good 1/3 of them were empty. Besides that, the meal was delightful and still great value as it was delicious with huge portions! Love! However, service at this particular branch is nowhere near as good as other branches. I understand it's busy and it's always incredibly crowded with people and cramped seating and loud music/voices but this was like no other. When I arrived party of 2, they had nearly 5 tables empty and yet we couldn't sit at any of them because the had to wait for reservations to see if they arrived and we had to wait 15 min but they said they'd let us know. We were forced to sit at the bar which the giant metal can of alcohol bottles took up 1/2 my seating/dining area and no one bothered to move it or ask if that was okay because obviously it wasn't but the didn't care. We waited awhile for the food to come and during that time we asked if there really wasn't any table availability since tables clearly open and the denied again even though reservations never came. Literally 3 tables remains consistently empty throughout our entire dining experience confined to the cramped bar area. They even closed the door, separating the outdoor diners which was weird and it became insufferably hot inside, even on a cold windy day. Bathroom situation here is also terrible as it is downstairs with steep narrow stairs and me and other customers almost bumped into each other and staff carrying multitude of food dishes and dirty dishes up and down the stairs. Never have I ever had such an undelightful experience going to bathroom at a restaurant. Additionally, sink water pressure either had no water coming out or a giant spray of water making it impossible to wash hands without getting a whole shower. This location really needs work. Only reason why I'm not giving it five stars is because I love Fumo as a whole. Just skip this location.

We started with the housemade focaccia and Wagyu carpaccio--both were outstanding, with the perfect balance of crispy, flavorful, and fresh elements. My partner and I shared the pasta, hangar steak, and potatoes, which turned out to be the ideal amount for two. We finished with the famous olive oil cake, which we loved for its subtly sweet, moist and tender bite. Served with lightly whipped cream and raisins, the combination was surprisingly delicious. We were also touched by the complimentary anniversary scoop of ice cream. The interior seating is a bit snug, but the decor is beautiful--elegant yet homey. The service was good as well. Overall, we highly recommend L'Artusi for a special night out!

L'Artusi has been on my radar for a while, ever since I heard it was a hot spot and saw reviews of…read moreit being one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Being Italian American, I'm hypercritical of spots like these - but nevertheless the positive reviews were overwhelming so I wanted to check it out for myself. One of my friends and I were looking to catch up, so I booked a table and off we went. While it can be tricky to get a reservation during prime dinner time, it's relatively easy to get a lunch reservation - or an early/late dinner. I managed to get a reservation for dinner at 9:15pm which was the earliest I could find. The restaurant is pretty unassuming on the outside - it looks like a converted brownstone and once inside we were greeted by a large space with a sceney vibe. The space is split between two levels with a large bar up front and a semi-open kitchen in the back. The decor was modern - with lots of greys and neutral tones which was a little unexpected. The main star of the menu is pasta, but they also have a few non-pasta mains as well as some crudo selections, apps, and sides. We decided to get a few apps, two pastas, and one side. To start, we went with the octopus, roasted mushrooms, burrata crostone, and focaccia. These were all really good, but my favorite was the mushrooms. I'm usually not a fan of mushrooms but these were prepared with red pepper and fried egg and were delicious; it cut through the earthiness and changed the texture to something I really enjoyed. The focaccia was also a standout - it's house made and was paired with a peppery oil that complemented the bread well. For mains we split two pastas - the caccio e pepe and the rigatoni. Both of these were very good, though I felt the rigatoni was the stronger dish. It was prepared with sausage ragu, soppressata, broccoli rabe pesto, and pecorino. The flavors worked really well together and the pasta was cooked al dente. The caccio e pepe was perfectly fine, I just feel it's been overplayed and didn't feel there was anything that stood out amongst the others I've tried. We also got a broccoli rabe as a side which was great. We couldn't leave without dessert and decided to get their olive oil cake and quattro formaggio cheesecake. The restaurant is known for the former - it was perfectly fine but I've had olive oil cakes elsewhere of the same or better quality. The cheesecake was the stronger dessert IMO - the combination of cheeses gave it an interesting, almost savory flavor. The brûlée top and mascerated strawberries were great texture and flavor complements. Service was great - the place was packed but service was consistently on point and everyone was friendly. Overall, I had a good experience at L'Artusi. While everything was very good, I'm struggling to find the exact reason why this place became such a hot spot compared to other Italian spots in the city. Nevertheless, you'll have a good meal here and I would definitely return if given the opportunity.

I read the reviews mostly good so I was hoping for the best. My friends and I were not disappointed. The first thing I noticed was there were 7 people in my party and 4 arrived early and did not have to wait for my arrival to be seated. Second the waiter who took our order was polite and on point with specials and knowledge of the menu. He (just never caught his name) suggested the Rigatoni which chicken and sausage. I am not really a pasta eater but baby that dish could change that; it was DELICIOUS. I even liked the anchovy dressing on my Caesar Salad and I dislike anchovies. All the dishes ordered (chicken parm, mussels chicken paillard etc.) everyone enjoyed them immensely. The only negative was when the Chicken Paiikard arrived it was supposed to a shared dish by the elderly couple and they asked for regular dinner plates from one of the servers. It took the gentleman who took our order to step in and said sure, lucky their food was still hot. Common Sense is not so common for all. But this will not lower my rating as it was taken care of swiftly. The portions were the perfect size and I was not stuffed but pleasantly satified. We told them the time of our show, food was out quickly, nicely presented, still hot and very tasty. The restaurant was not noisy and had space between the tables. It also had an elevator for those who could not manage stairs. Trattoria Trecolori you will be added to my must go again list! Thank for a wonderful experience!
