This place keeps giving and giving each time we go. We went to see Beautiful at the Landmark and had an early dinner at the Lemon Grass prior to the show. At 5:00 pm we sat down and Justin greeted us. We advised him we were in no rush and from their he took great care of us with a nice pace - no rushing us out the door. If you know Lemon Grass they do get busy. Service and food out of 1-10 (15).... We started with their Coconut Shrimp and Pan seared Squid -Calamari ( had concerns as outside our norm but was great) both dishes were excellent. Spouse had their Filet and ate every drop of the meat, it was that good and cooked to perfection. They had a Sea Bass pan fried special. Justin filet the fish and I could not get enough of it. That good. Wish I had room for a 2nd one :) Dessert - there's always room - I had the Lost Slipper - the flavors and texture were yummy & perfect. Spouse had the Red Balloon and enjoy every bite. Came in to sit at the bar, listen to live jazz. I asked for a medium level spice in the curry. The dish came so spicy it was inedible. The dish had no vegetables. Bartender told me I need some orange juice to chase the spice. Frankly, overly spicy food kills your taste buds and restaurants do that with old food. I was asked repeatedly if I wanted to box the meal since I refused to eat it. If I couldn't it the meal at the restaurant, why would I want to attempt to digest it at home? I will never be back. Went here with a friend during Dining Week to celebrate my birthday. So happy with my choice! We ordered grape soda (picture). Their shrimp dumplings appetizer was amazing! We also had bitter greens with peanut dressing. I ordered the swordfish dish which was yummy but not too memorable. My friend ordered a curry dish. The waitress was friendly and brought a bowl of white rice with our dishes to be shared. This was a good sized bowl and could be replenished if we needed more. My friend and I shared an apple dumpling dessert with ice cream. They offered some fancy desserts. One dessert featured chocolate in the shape of a stiletto. The beverages and dessert were not included in the Dining Week price of $25 per person. Their regular is on the pricey side, so Dining Week is a good way to try their food. This was the first time I've had good food here. We came for restaurant week. Good deal. 3 courses for $30. Started with Moroccan Fritters. Mung beans and various other ingredients fried into a little round dumpling and served with a sweet dipping sauce. Then a very fresh salad with Peanut dressing. Main course, Swordfish in a lemon caper sauce. Excellent. The desserts are a bit over the top for me and I found the service a little odd. One minute they're all over you, slimy and unctuous . Then, gone for 15 minutes, probably to teach us a lesson for not being ready when he was. Then back for more of the "tip me " treatment. I prefer a discreet and subtle approach. The food is absolutely amazing and very, very consistent. They NEVER have an off night. This is the kind of place you want to go when you want to impress your guests. Service is always top-notch to match the food. I didn't know about the bistro in the back until a recent visit and that was a brilliant discovery! A nice little secret hideaway where a few friends and I were able to pass several snowy hours enjoying each other's company over some shared plates and delicious cocktails. Decent Thai food, Filet with Massaman was excellent. Curries were quite average. You are paying for the ambience, and that is fine if that is what you are looking for. However, I had higher expectations after looking at the menu. Quite surprised at the several 4 and 5 star reviews on Yelp. Overall we had a great time here! The servers were all very nice and friendly, the atmosphere is great, and the food is good ( but not worth the price tag IMO). We've ordered everything from the appetizer to the dessert including cocktails. They all taste good; but really, that's it ;) if you are craving Thai food I won't recommend go here for sure. Date night with my flower started with a nice dinner in downtown Syracuse. It is a Thai restaurant but really offers all kinds of flavors: their special cowboy bone in ribeye sound delish for meat lovers! It was too big (30oz) for $75, so We did not choose this. What we ordered: shrimp dumplings, lobster special - kow soy, Makham sauce with sword fish, and chocolate pyramid mouse dessert. Appetizer shrimp dumplings were okay, kinda bland and sweet. The entrees were very tasty. The lobster was cooked alright and the curry was mild and flavorful. After the crispy noodle absorbed the curry and getting softer - very nice carb with the dish. Also you can find a big Scallop and some chicken pieces. Mine dish with sword fish has a strong flavor. Tasted very nice but after more bites, the reduced sauce get overwhelmingly strong that I need more rice to compromise the taste. Fortunately we share dishes and our dishes can complement each other. The dessert was excellent! Great presentation, perfect tempered (thanks to food network) chocolate pyramid covering all the semi-sweet mousse. You have to use the spoon to crack in. I ordered a spicy Thai mule which is a spin on the traditional mule by adding peppers and basil - not bad but i did not quite taste the difference - it is spicy to the throat though. Great service and vibe, definitely recommend for a date night. Ate here last night for dinner and had a fabulous meal! The food and the service were in point! We started off with their spring rolls which were some of the best I have had! Nice & crunchy and a great filling as well as a fresh made fish sauce dipping sauce! My husband had the beef Panang and it was excellent! I snuck a few bites and was glad I did! It was our first time there and I am a lover of Thai food and always like to see how a place makes their pad Thai and it was prepared very well! Very tasty and flavorful! All the desserts sounded amazing but we opted for a scoop of the mango and coconut sorbet! All made in-house and were very very good! So fresh and you could really taste the fruits! On a side note, I see a lot of reviews saying how expensive the place is and that the portions are small...this isn't your typical fast Asian/thai restaurant but rather a nice gourmet place! I'd like to start out this review by asking my fellow restaurant goers, "What is a mango"? It's a fruit right? Well not at Lemon Grass, It's a Tai pistachio like nut. But on the menu the dish says with mango, not Tai mango. Then when requested, the server did not even describe the mango to us and the menu did not even specify Tai mango. The dish sucked with expectation it would be fruity not nutty. Two of our party people ordered this. When confronted, the waiter said yeah, we discussed this at our meeting and it was suggested that it would be changed. But it wasn't and he knew it was an issue. Now lets talk about the wait. We came in at 5:15p, yes on a Friday night. We were the ONLY patrons there with the exception of bar goers and one other dinner couple. We ordered our food at about 5:45p. It came at 7:30p. Simple dishes, the excuse...well we had a bridal party come in just as you ordered. OK, but our dupes were be submitted for preparation right. No, we saw parties come, eat and go within the the almost 2 hour wait. Our server sucked big time. At one point I asked if I could go back in the kitchen and talk to the line. I once worked the broiler in a well known, high end restaurant in Lake George and know how it works. These people need to be on Kitchen nightmares. The appetizers came out pretty fast. But, where was my soup? FInally, when our dinners arrived almost two hours after ordering, the soups came WITH OUR DINNERS! Supposed to have lump blue crab in it at $13 I was expecting more than one scoop and a piece of crap that would fit in a 1/2 teaspoon. Again two were ordered. Then one of the other group members ordered the red curry with some kind of cooked cheese. Literally there was 3 tablespoons of curry with a mound of cubed cheese. The cheese was dry and hot and needed to be eaten with the liquid curry. But there was no curry to eat more than half the portion. Mind you this is a VERY EXPENSIVE restaurant and there is NO EXCUSE for what was happening. We complained to the waiter but was not met by any management whatsoever. My guess was he or she was to busy attending to the bridal party. THen we decided to have dessert Two of us order the bread pudding. Now I am a connoisseur of bread pudding. Literally there was three piece of whole white bread that looked like wonder bread soaked like french toast in the very tasty sauce with apple filling that tasted as though it came from a can in the center. The bread was not even covered with the sauce. It was TERRIBLE! Look I don't usually write such a poor review unless the evening was very bad. This was the worse experience I had at a very expensive restaurant ever! I insisted we not provide a tip at all but we split the bill which came to about $550 three ways and was over-ruled. In summary, I would say that the food was sub-sub-par for such an expensive fair and this guy will never go back to the lemon grass restaurant. THe ONLY redeeming part about the evening was enjoying time with some very close friends. Just remember since they won't tell you, a Mango is a Tai nut like food. Really! Pros: good food Cons: high prices So now the question is, is said good food worth said high prices? My answer is emphatically no. The amount on our bill was laughable. No, literally i laughed when i saw it. But. Its because i'm looking at what went (or didn't go) into the dishes, I'm looking around at the ambience, I'm taking into account the quality of service. I've been to restaurants with prices like this, and i can point out where that dollar is being spent on product, overhead, and where it's being earned by staff. What i can't do is tell you why a cup of beef and some basil warrants a 30 dollar price tag. Had a beef with green curry that was excellent, though a bit cool by the time it made it to the table. Also had a duck confit with an overly sweet and one dimensional tamarind sauce, the duck was fried way too long, tough and the skin was charred. Dessert was forgettable, save the sorbet. Oysters were excellent. Its a "Thai" place. Ok not Thai, Thai influenced. The dreaded Asian fusion tag seems appropriate. I've had better for less. That being said the food was worth 4 stars. Portions I found to be small. You wont need a doggie bag here. Average on entrees is between 30-40 bux, so appetizers, dessert and drinks included you'll be looking at well over $100 per person. I don't really care to say much more, i enjoyed my meal, but i wouldn't return anywhere i felt like I was being robbed. Some people feel fancy spending 500 dollars on 50 dollars worth of food. Maybe that's just my personal gripe, but I can't stand places that charge 6 or 7 times what the food is worth under the guise of fine dining because the staff are wearing uniforms, they plate food well and the decor is modern. Coming home from NYC. Looked up places to go eat and fell upon lemon grass, based on yelp review this place is a must try. We came in on Sunday night. We got seated quickly. Overall the ambiance is ok. Service is definitely sub par. Prices is expensive, good variety of food. Started with California king crab roll, and it was decent. We got the lemons grass with shrimp signature and a cowboy steak which was on special with bokchoy. The meal was brought out, the lemon shrimp grass entree was good came with white rice. But my cowboy steak came raw when I wanted medium. It has no flavor. They cooked the same steak when I asked to take it back. The sauce that came with it was disgusting. This experience was not what I was expecting. Especially for the dinner special and the prices they are asking. In my eyes this is not a top notch restaurant. Will not come back again. read more

I have been wanting to try Lemon Grass over the past few visits to Syracuse. We made it there last month while visiting my son at SU and I am just now getting the time to sit down and write a proper review. We were a table of 3 and our dining experience was superb in every way. The restaurant while not fancy, is upscale in feel. It's warmly decorated with a combination of tables with linens and some without. There is a long bar, as well as dining area in the front and then a separate, larger dining area in the back. The manager, Billy, has been there for many years. He has an engaging personality and is obviously excellent at what he does. As examples: We did not have to wait to be seated, We had water poured right away (with our glasses never going empty during the meal), Our server, Rachel, came to our table shortly after being seated and she was attentive, patient and professional until the moment we left. My son, who was with us, dined there with his girlfriend a few weeks before and had Aaron as a server. My son said wonderful things about him, as well. These are all signs of a well run establishment. During this "post-covid" time, to have this level of service is not easy and was very much noticed and appreciated. Thank you, Billy. The food was all delicious. We ordered some very fresh oysters for the table to share. I started with a terrific seafood special with a thai broth. My son had the shrimp cocktail and my husband had a corn chowder with crab on top (also a special) which was so tasty and satisfying. For the main course, I had the roast duck, my husband had a curry seafood special and my son had the swordfish, which I believe was also a special. All three were excellent. For dessert, we had the warm chocolate cake and a lovely yogurt, honey and granola plate. Definitely worth the indulgence! To sum up, our meal at Lemon Grass was a delight. Very dissatisfied with my recent visit with two friends of mine. Sat down and was immediately surprised by the high prices for what seemed to be mid-upper average food by the looks of it. Every entree is 30$+ and to be honest is quite below par. A fair price for the entrees at my table would of been like 12-14. The portions were also incredibly tiny--and the food didn't make up for it! We ordered the 15$ Appetizer Coconut Shrimp which was about mall quality at best. 5 Mediocre shrimp in a heavily deep fried crust (took 30 mins on top of the quality we got) I ordered the "Sliced Filet Mignon over Green Curry" and have to say I left extremely unhappy. My "Sliced Filet Mignon" came as little bits of tough beef- sort of like take out Chinese. Why would you serve a beautiful piece of beef that is supposed to shine in tenderness like a 2 week pile of stewed beef? Present it sliced (as advertised) and let the customer see the perfect cook on it. I even added a photo!! My "green curry" came out as a very odd- unappetizing dark brown color, I questioned the waitress and she said that was correct, not notifying my about this beforehand. The combo of the shredded dark beef and dark curry sauce make it look like Food Court Mall food - disgusting! There were no vegetables in the curry itself, jasmine rice was served on the side. If it were not for the rice, I would've left more hungry than I was. On top of all of this - our service was just okay, not checking in on our meal for a few 30 minute intervals. Overall: 2.5/10 Originally planned on leaving after initially seeing the prices but stayed because I was planning on enjoying a solid meal. This is an Asian-fusion Thai restaurant with a diverse menu and great wine selection. I came with reservations on a Saturday night. I highly recommend making reservations because they were pretty busy around 6PM and I saw them turn away some people. The ambience of this restaurant was much better than what I saw in pictures. I liked all of the art on the walls. It made the space feel like a fancy art studio. The art was not Thai related. The only Thai decor I saw were some Thai lady figures between tables. It was very hard to find parking. They have a parking garage next door but we had to pay a flat $10 rate because there was an event going on that night nearby. I am pretty sure the restaurant doesn't validate. I sat by the front window on the booth/bench. I had back pain from sitting there because it was angled with the front of the seat set much higher than the back of the seat. I was sunken in pretty deep and the table met my chest. I heard the guy sitting next to me comment on how uncomfortable it was too. Our waiter didn't talk much and did not tell us the specials of the day. I didn't know there were specials for the day until the other waiter for the table next to mine started telling the diners about them. Our waiter was prompt and to the point but he didn't read back what we ordered and upon asking him if the trio sampler was a sample of the 3 featured rolls, he only replied "yep." Each individual roll was $12-$15 in the appetizer section. I assumed the sampler trio would be around $18 for a little taste of all 3. Instead, it was $35 for all three (I don't know if the quantity were the full appetizer quantities or if they were samples of each). If they were not samples, and were indeed full sizes of all 3, then saying "yep" to "is it a sample of all 3 rolls" is incorrect. The food came out very fast! I was very surprised. I feel like they had some of the food prepared already. The busgirl was prompt and helpful. The three rolls include: the king roll (is a cold roll that looks like an enchilada), the fire cracker crispy roll (like a sushi roll, but lacks flavor, didn't taste freshly fried, and had huge globs of sriacha and sriacha mayo on the side), and the house spring roll (tastes just like a Vietnamese eggroll with woodear mushrom except with less eggroll wrapper, and way more filling). All 3 rolls were my least favorite things I had that night. They tasted fine but not $35 fine. I tried the coconut shrimp appetizer for $14. There were around 5-6 shrimp and they were large, nicely fried and had a good texture. I didn't care for the sauce it sat in because it tasted like bottled sweet and sour sauce. Overall the dish was good but not distinct or unique. We had the morning roti (from appetizer menu) for $13.50. I was most excited about this dish because I love roti with curry sauces/dips. This roti was dry like tortilla. I think I was expecting more of a Malaysian style roti canai that is crispy/oily. This one was very dry, not served hot, and had chewy flour tortilla texture. The sauce it came with was nice and had a good kaffir flavor. Usually I see roti served with a thicker, non-see-thru sauce, so I was surprised by Lemongrass's version of this dish. For an entree, I tried the filet grob for $29. I honestly wasn't sure what protein I was getting and was surprised it was beef. I thought it would be fish. I've had very similar dishes for a fraction of the price. I love the fried Thai basil and thought the beef was tender. It was served with rice and peppers. Overall, this was probably my favorite dish. It made great leftovers the next day. For desserts we tried the chocolate can-can and red balloon. Each were $13. I thought this price was fair because the desserts were works of art. They were visually beautiful and tasted great. The red balloon was a balloon-shaped raspberry puree on top of a mousse cake. the mousse was rose-lychee flavored but it tasted predominantly like rose and barely like lychee. I liked the Amaretto creme it came with. The menu mentioned liquid nitrogen so I thought it'd be coming out with a liquid nitrogen-cloud around it but perhaps the balloon was made with liquid nitrogen. I liked that the dessert menu gave you suggestions for dessert alcohols the dish would pair well with. The chocolate can-can was my favorite of the 2 desserts. It's Lemongrass's version of the majolaine cake. It has praline buttercream, a nut flavored meringue and a chocolate souffle pastry with a side of espresso ice cream. It had two cookie can-can legs on top. The desserts were whimsical and tasty. I would have loved to see some Thai-inspired desserts other than mango ice cream. In summary, I'd come for the desserts but skip the savory food. I think you can get better Thai elsewhere. If you come here, it is for the date-night/fancy occasion ambience, location, and desserts. read more

This place is an adorable spot of Thai American fusion. The shrimp dumplings are equal parts chewy as they are flavorful. They're not fried so the texture is soft but they still feel like a guilty pleasure with the brown salty sauce in the mix. The NY strip steak is huge and comes with a perfect helping of mashed potatoes. Last but not least, the lost slipper dessert. It's the perfect sweet treat to post on IG. Let me start with the food was phenomenal. I wish I could rate the food and the service separately. I get that it is dining week and they are probably busier than they would have been in a normal Wednesday BUT our server, an older gentleman that never introduced himself, seemed put out in helping us. The Pad Thai I had was probably the best I've ever eaten. My friend's ginger curry tofu was on par too. After being pretty much ignored by the server throughout our meal, only really being serviced by the assistant, we wanted dessert. There was a dessert - Couer a la Creme- that was just mascarpone, a piece of chocolate and some raspberry purée but it didn't say that it was gluten-free. So I asked him what would make it not gluten-free and he went through the ingredients and didn't name flour. I asked him if he would go check to see if it was actually gluten-free. He said "Well there must be something in it so what else do you want?" He wouldn't go check. His lack of even pretending to care was enough for me not to have a repeat visit. We started off with the crab roll which came out looking like fried sushi, it was pretty good. We then ordered the tuna tartar that came out rolled up, was pretty good too, nothing mind blowing. We then shifted over to dinner. I had the lobster and scallop noodle curry feature--this dish was really delicious, the scallops were huge, the dish came with 1/2 ib of lobster meat and the sauce with noodles was really good. My friend ordered the massaman chicken curry and she seemed to enjoy it and my husband had the mushroom beef noodle dish, I tasted it and agreed it was yummy. For 4 drinks, 2 apps and 3 entrees, our bill was $224 without tip which to me is a bit much for what we got. Brought my kid for end of year dinner. I knew it was expensive (truly most expensive pad Thai in North America -$30). Would have thought they would do something special but big nope. Note the open table address is their old place which is shuttered, which was a bit of a mystery at first till you call them. The old restaurant probably was much nicer. Food? Ok ....just. Green filet beef curry was dark brown with no veg at all, and rather tasteless (I know my green curry) get it's probably one of few Thai restaurants but not $60/per person without Booz or appetizers and a shared dessert. Ended up taking home most in a doggy bag, which says something about the food (eat left overs later - SALTY!) We got ignored as soon as the oysters arrived and she didn't come back until our entrees were ready and then we had to flag her down for the check, which took 10 minutes to get and then when there was a problem with our gift card, it took another five minutes for her to come back after we swapped out the cards. It wasn't like she was busy, she was no where to be found, I don't know what her problem was!! It was ridiculous!! I'm in Syracuse doing restuarant week. Hooray for me! I was told by my new brewery friends (don't judge, I like beer) to get to Lemongrass! Ok! I ran as fast as I could to my car (because it was freezing with winds that only made it painful)! I drove directly to Lemongrass! I arrive 50 min before closing, yet they were happy to see me! Already happy! I decided on the "special package" for restaurant week. Very nice salad and a guan maun curry (pronounced "gay man", which ended my chance at a date with the lovely ladies also at the bar). Try it: "I'm have the gay man." My GLBT friends in Denver probably laughed and didn't know why. Delicious!!! Spicy, creamy, enjoyable (2nd laugh from my friends 2 thousand miles away)! This place is on its way to 5 Stars with a bullet. Hold on!!! "Would you like to see the dessert menu?" Said the angels voice! As a tear rolled from eye, Yes, yes was even faster from my mouth! Oh. Always good. Always fresh. The ribeye is one of the best I ever had. The desert with honeycomb Greek yogurt and homemade granola is bomb.

Great ambiance, but the food is uneven--my dates food was good, but no better than most Thai restaurants, my Pad Thai noodles were like rubber and tasted more sweet and sour without the nuttiness and sweetness of Pad Thai. Will probably go again, but with very low expectations. Did not understand the big tv with sports on during a Saturday night service, it detracted from the atmosphere. The lighting was a little bright and harsh, and the piped in music kept disappearing. Again, three stars for the venue, two stars for the food, which is a shame because for years you could trust this restaurant to deliver good consistent food. read more

Went back again. Apparently 730pm is too late for a reservation if you want to enjoy appetizers. Very disappointing. Also got stuffed in the banquet room again - beginning to wonder what it takes to get a spot in the main dining room. Food we were able to order was absolutely delicious yet again, including dessert.
