For a New Yorker to get here, you'd need to get on the train from 2 Penn and stop at Secaucus, take the taxi (5 or 6 bucks) which is about half a mile away. It's pretty clean, parking isn't bad. I always overlook this place in the past because the location wasn't appealing, but since I was stuck at the station and was hungry I asked the taxi driver to take me to the nearest restaurant. Serving was large, had the shrimp parm and it was pretty good! I'll need to visit it again to get a better feel of the place. It's 3 blocks from one of my hidden faves "Linda's Thai". Service was great, I don't know if the waitress was a family member of the owner, he would pass by and ask me how the food was. read more

Have been here several times. The first time was dinner. We ordered veal parm and eggplant parm. Horrible. Ate just enough to ward off starvation and brought the rest home for the dog. She is not a fussy eater and loves all people food but wouldn't touch this. Been several times for breakfast which was generally fine by diner standards. Got cold grits so learned to ask waitress to make sure they are hot. Yesterday they came out cold and were sent back and when we tried the eggs they were cold also. Had no time to send them back. Told waitress who spoke to manager. She came back and apologized and offered a muffin. Told here no thanks. She was good and tried to do the right thing. Manager just didn't care. Went to this diner for lunch and I ordered a Greek Salad topped with fire roasted Shrimps. She shrimps were nice while the salad was not a Greek salad but a regular salad with a little bit of goat cheese. No olives, anchovies etc. I asked where were the anchovies and olives they said they forgot to put them. So they brought me some olives but they never brought the anchovies. They are your typical diner honestly; nothing terrible, but nothing amazing. If you end up coming here, I suggest you stick to food that diners are known for. They have pretty good breakfast food, pancakes, paninis, and burgers. I am a fan of the Wild West Burger, which is a burger patty (obviously - lol), cheddar cheese, bacon, fried onions, and barbecue sauce. I was not impressed with the higher end meals / Italian favorites like their Chicken Parmigiana; the sauce was not impressive. I guess I shouldn't expect much since it is a diner. The staff is really a hit or miss - some waitresses are extremely nice and friendly while others seem absolutely miserable working. Every time I pass this place I see one car and a tumble weed. Finally gave it a try. Completely deserted. Took forever to get waited on. Even longer to get a warm glass of orange juice. Played it safe and ordered breakfast. Tasteless french toast and snotty runny eggs. With a side of band aids..or was it bacon? It was hard to tell. The waitress took forever to bring me their own sticky dirty bottle of tasteless pancake syrup and I asked her if they had anything else. She told me no. I work in Secaucus, so Legends Diner supplied my beautiful wife and I a perfectly acceptable lunch date location. I got what I consider the Litmus test of any diner, 2 eggs (over easy) extra crispy home fries and rye toast. The Eggs were well cooked, the home fries were well seasoned and sufficiently crispy, and last but certainly not least the rye toast was very good. Great quality bread and not too much butter. My wife's wrap looked good but I will let "Honest" Kelly speak for herself. Service was fast and friendly and the decor had the charm that only a diner can pull off. I can't figure out how this place is still in business. The menu was atrociously long with nothing that sounded super appetizing. I settled for the a reuben panini. The soup that came with it was on par with a can of Campbell's soup. The fries were decent. The sandwich was monstrously large. I only at 1/3 or it. I hesitated to come here when I saw the three stars but I thought no way they can mess up an omelette. OK I'm wrong. Probably one of the worst omelettes I've ever had the only thing that was not difficult to eat was the rye toast which was toasted to perfection. Coffee was horrible. Was on my way to Quiznos for dinner and saw this place. Looked decent so I made a u-turn and went inside. They had a ton on daily specials that included a cup of soup, salad & desert. The soup was good. I was not pleased with the salad bar. It did not look appealing at all. The dinner rolls were ok. Pretty much everything was mediocre except the service was good. I love this zone. This is my favorite zone. Got breakfast rather late on a Monday night, was done very well--partner's Disco Fries were also great. The gravy was either the good kind of canned or home made. Cheap enough that I don't really care. The service was graceful and sweet; heard another table having a tiny issue (they were out of an item) and both the server and the manager came out to make sure everything was right. The French dip sandwich was just meat and bread, the grilled cheese was not melted, the Florentine omelet had no cheese, and the chicken avocado wrap had tasteless chicken and the avocado was not fresh. The wrap came with curly fries that tasted awful. The only good food we had was the soup and the grits. Service was fine but the food was just all around awful. Average food and discriminatory behaviour! I went to this place with my family on a Sunday morning for a brunch after seeing 4+ rating on Google. The server attended us OK initially, however, she didn't come back even once to ask as to how things were and didn't refill coffee (I had to stand up and go to the owner to request for refill and then he came himself). On the other hand, this person was entertaining another family very well, unlike the way she did to us, right next to our table. It was clear from seeing the staff and clientele that this place is used to one group of population only, which is highly surprising given that this diner is in Secaucus, NJ, a very cosmopolitan city! My husband has ordered various items from the menu; but we both agree that the salad bar at any given time of day is below par. Went there last night.... There was no on to greet us so we sat ourselves down. It seems they were understaffed or maybe thats the norm for a Saturday night. There was one hostess, one waitress and one cook. Took awhile to place order and receive it. Ordered two kids meals and a burger for myself. Poor waitress was running around like crazy for a total of 5 tables about 12 ppl. Food was okay. Kids liked it. The downside was when the hostess added $200 extra to my bill and didn't mention the error to me. I found out while still at the diner and I received an alert from my bank. I had to ask the hostess about it and thats when she said something. She assured me it was an easy fix error once she processed the final payment. Well here I am note than 17 hours later and my bank still has a pending transaction for $225!! Good thing I didn't depend on those extra $200 for this weekend or i would be screwed. read more

The burger was over grilled, charcoal burnt taste, the Panini was just slapped together no care, actually they skimped on ingredients and over cooked fries as well. For $10 you get the most tender and moist brisket I've ever had. It's so good in fact, it quickly sells out. The owners told me to call ahead and they'd hold 2 brisket dinners for me anytime. I was pleased that they followed through and my brisket was reserved! Everything you order is fresh and full of flavor. Their soups ( lentil, chicken, tomato,pea, matzoh ball)are delicious as well as fresh, crisp salads. Everything tastes homemade.The dinner specials are varied with choices of fish, meat, poultry. Legend's Diner is not a place you make plans to go to. It's where you could end up if it's late and you're in the area and hungry, perhaps hauling cargo or avoiding the law. I've been by about once a month for a few years now - a quick bite in between shifts. Is the food outstanding? No. It is decent though, factoring portions and prices. You can always find a long line of celebrities inside; look up from your counter seat and see them framed in black and white photos, fighting for a stage near the ceiling. My favorite is the cast of Our Gang, placed near the restroom entrance - which are clean by the way. Otherwise there's sparse attendance. Once a former company division manager popped in for eggs and toast, seated ten feet across from me. Not even a glance, could've been a stranger.. The owner is the ancient Grecian type who, when asked how fares the price of eggs, not only tells you there's no use in complaining, but also why. If however, Carmen, the head waitress, is in a good mood (usually the case), she'll spin you a good yarn, keeping the coffee flowing. If you're into worn stainless steel appliances and mirrored textures, you'll also find plenty of surrounding, for lack of a better word. The go-to dish is the Legends Burger (sliced avocado, bacon and thick fried onion rings on that bad boy). At $8 bucks with hot, golden, crispy fries, it can draw drool. Don't forget to ask for some brown gravy with that. Or I get a triple decker and bring half home to reminisce. Ingredients are fresh, but fusion is still taught in physics; not in the menu. If emboldened, I'll go for an entree, which includes a cup of soup, the salad bar (table) and a dessert for under $15. That's like doubling-down; good luck. They also always seem to have an abundance of breakfast pastries on display, individually saran-wrapped, and I often wonder how much of these actually sell heading into early rush hour, which I'll probably never know. Overall, Legends has a Route 66 ghost-town feel, at 4 am anyhow, stuck in an oldies era: a little lonely, deserted and forgotten. And that's exactly why I keep coming back. We were seated and waited 15 minutes before I finally went up to the hostess stand and asked for a waitress. Then the waitress, Joyce, came over with an attitude and was said "Oh, are you guys ready?" really Joyce?!?!?! We ordered an appetizer, and our food. I ordered a grilled cheese and since my sandwich didn't come with fries I ordered the disco fries from the appetizer list to go with my food. We waited forever, still no appetizer. Our main dishes come out first, she didn't bring it all at once and when I asked for the tomatoes i requested on the side she snapped back at me and said she can't carry everything. My friends burger that she ordered was just bun and cheese... she took the plate out without the burger even on top!!! When she came back with the burger we told her to cancel the appetizer, thinking she had forgotten it... but NO! She said she figured we were in a rush and wanted it all at once. Well #1 Why wasn't it brought at once and #2 why would you assume that. Then when she finally comes back with the appetizer she says to me, you know the disco fries are an appetizer right... yea lady... i ordered it WITH my sandwich!! We were wrong no matter what and she was right. Customer service at its worst! Ive waitressed before, and believe this is not rocket science! Be polite and get the order right... not that difficult! Ive been wanting to try this diner for years since Ive had been trying out diners in the area! Last saturday's experience was a disappointment! Walked in at 1230am and it was empty except for the Lady hostess who couldnt care to see us to a table and the Waitress! The menu itself bored the two of us - the only customers - too wordy and uninteresting choices! To make a horrible experience bearable to read and be useful - Legends Sampler is a sad choice of dried up fried mix of unappetizing samples - avoid! When we asked the lovely waitress to suggest a hot sandwich - the long pause and thinking expression should have given it away - Panini Cheesetake in Hero sandwich with peppers onion cheese - i stead of curly fries please substitute with sweet potato fries with mayo please! The order had to be sent back as its being laid on the table because its served with fries and not sweet potato and "oh i forgot the mayo"! Overall, old hero bread, cold cheese and medium steak slices were horrible! Please spare yourself the time and hunger to a fast food place! I haven't been back since this review because i found Linda Thai Kitchen just down the street. There are just too many places to go that are great. USUALLY GOOD. BUT NOT TONIGHT. ARRIVED 8:50 pm and had to wait over 20 minutes for Western Omelet and Spanish Omelet. Toast arrived 4 minutes later. They first brought me French Onion Soup which was not ordered. Asked waitress what the hold up on food was and she told me that they are pre-occupied in the kitchen. Appeared to be owner sitting next to us discussing food and menu change, real estate ten train stops from NYC and he wasn't taking care of supervising or knowing what was happening in his restaurant. They never charged for the four or five extra slices of bacon. Spanish Omelet was very soupy and did not appear to be an omelet. Soda is $1.90 per glass. They can do better for the prices.
