a variety of pastries in a display case
Nicholas G.

Took me a minute to find it since it is behind the main street and the gps got confused. This is a straightforward deli that has all the heavy hitters. Thr chicken parm hero was my go to since you can't go wrong with it. The crumb cake was also nice and crumbly with just the right sweetness. The thing that threw me off was there were a few premade sandwiches in the case. Not sure who those are for. The sandwich was good but nothing spectacular. They did have some hot dishes and I always appreciate that since you never know what you are in the mood for. I would come back but I have it at 4 stars.

Cherry turnover

I thought this place was nice. Solid but not really amazing. It's a small deli, street parking, and a small seating area. I found it a little confusing where you order and where you pay and ended up in the wrong line. I ordered the Filomena's Hero (ham, salami, mozzarella, toppings) and it was a fine sandwich, but I mostly tasted bread over the meat and cheese. It was a perfectly decent sandwich, but it's not the best deli sandwich I've had, so A-OK sounds about right. They also have a minimum $10 for credit card, so I ordered a turnover to meet the minimum. That was pretty good. So overall, if you are in the area, a fine place for lunch, but I wouldn't recommend driving out of your way for it.

Eggplant Parmagian Panini (~$8), which comes with chips.

Used to go to Filomena's for lunch fairly often, but not as frequently anymore. I recently went back and it was still delicious! - Food: Randomly discovered Filomena's a couple months back and glad that I did -- the food is delicious here. The have a good variety with alternating daily hot specials. I generally stick to the sandwiches here, such as their mozzarella sandwich (they have great, fresh mozzarella) or their Eggplant Parmagian Panini (~$8), which comes with chips. I don't think you can really go wrong with whatever you order here. - Price: The only slight negative about Filomena'a is the price -- it's a bit more expensive than it should be, in my opinion. However the food is delicious and generally seems fresh, so guess it's a trade-off. I know folks have mentioned parking as an issue, when I go during lunch time or early afternoon, there's usually street parking near the front of Filomena's. If this is full, try the metered parking lot in the Noches de Colombia parking lot. Overall, delicious and generally fresh food, a bit overpriced. I'm going to continue coming here occasionally as I have been!

Samples while you wait

Consider yourself forewarned, this spot might just put your kitchen out of business. Stopped in randomly for lunch. Business was steady with locals at the deli counter, and the kitchen was cranking out food at a frantic pace. I ordered a daily special, sesame crusted tuna. The friendly gentleman who took my order told me it would be "about 8 minutes". 8 minutes later, a gigantic portion of fresh, beautifully seared sushi grade tuna on a bed of greens with tomatoes, red peppers and house made lemon garlic dressing was delivered to my table. They need to raise their prices. This dish was a steal at 8.95. On my way out the door, I grabbed a few rice balls filled with prosciutto and mozzarella, some zucchini fritters, and a sandwich I had sampled during my 8 minute wait with pork cutlet, avocado, pepper jack cheese, and chipotle salsa. Man oh man, they know their way around a rice ball. And the pork cutlet sandwich? Genius! My total for all those take out items was a measly 17 bucks. Seriously, they need to raise their prices. Now that I've found filomena's, my stomach is happy and my stove is collecting dust.

Filomena's is tucked away on a small side street off Paterson Plank Road. What caught my eye, there had only been three reviews and all five stars. Well.... I won't break the trend. Stopped by today for lunch and ordered the Pisano Hero to go. It is a huge sandwich filled with Ham, cappacole, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers and choice of spread. I chose the pesto. The other choices are black olive spread and roasted pepper spread. This is the most mozzarella I have had on any sandwich ever. They have daily hot and cold specials and offer catering. Delivery is available Monday through Friday 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. If you work in Secaucus or are in the area you really should check them out. I can guarantee you won't be disappointed. There are about 15 tiny tables if you care to dine in and have the time. Parking is street only but I was able to find a small lot across the street and was done pretty quickly.

Hands down one of the best Italian delis left in the area! Great home made meals each day, and great sandwiches, and they can make any sandwich a panini!!!!

Just half of the mozzarella fresh tomato and basil panini. On the Wednesday special menu.

The interior features a chic aesthetic with heavy rose gold accents that give it a high end feel (women will love this place). While the atmosphere is great, seating is limited so you should be prepared to wait for a spot especially if you visit on the weekend. I usually expect these Instagram or TikTok viral cafes to be all style and no substance but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the brew. I have visited three times now and the espresso is consistently excellent. Whoever is pulling the shots knows exactly what they are doing because the coffee is never burnt and tastes incredible even when ordered black as an espresso or Americano. On this visit I tried the Pistachio Latte with reduced sweetness and it was delicious. The pistachio flavor tasted authentic rather than synthetic and it melded perfectly with the coffee. My sister absolutely loved the Rose Matcha, which is the same drink my fiancee enjoyed on a previous visit. Even my mom was glowing about her Cappuccino which is a rare treat since she is notoriously hard to please. For our meal we ordered the Caprese Chicken Crepe and the Chipotle Chicken Melt. The crepe was a hit with my mom and sister and the portion size was just right. The Chipotle sandwich had great flavor though it was definitely on the greasy side. You will want a stack of napkins ready if you order it but it was still a solid sandwich overall. On a previous visit, we tried the Tres Leches which unfortunately did not live up to the rest of the experience. It tasted bland a bit like a boxed cake and I was not a fan, I might try the Tiramisu on my next trip instead. Despite the dessert miss the staff here is super friendly and sweet. They never make you feel rushed and take the time to explain the menu options thoroughly. If you're in the area and need a high quality cup of coffee Haute Dulce is a fantastic spot that will actually satisfy your expectations.

I preferred the pistachio latte as the tiramisu latte had a lot of cold foam, which was tasty, but meant there was less of the latte. For hot drinks, I had a flat white, which wasn't the best one I've had but it was pretty good. For food, I tried the buffalo chicken crepe which was flavorful with a good amount of filling. I would try more of their food were I to visit again. The main reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because even by today's standards, I think the drinks are overpriced. The lattes are at least $8 and only come in one size that isn't especially large. The food seemed more reasonably prices from what I recall.

But the staff was incredibly welcoming right from the start, and that alone earns them five stars. You never know what to expect in a new neighborhood, but they set the tone immediately. The vibe of the restaurant is very comfortable. It is the kind of spot you walk into after a long day or a productive day and you just know you are about to eat something good. It feels like a family run place, even if it is not actually run by family. It has that warmth. You can tell it is an important part of the neighborhood. I even noticed pictures of community members on the wall, which says a lot. Now, the food. There is hot food, cold food, and plenty of items you can take home. I ordered a chicken parmesan sandwich, and let me tell you, it was the size of a skinny football. I am not exaggerating. It took me almost a day and a half to finish it. It tasted exceptional, and I actually had to stop myself from eating the whole thing in one sitting so I would not slip into a food coma. One tip, eat it while it is hot. That is when it is at its peak power. My friend agreed with me about the overall vibe and quality. If I am ever in the neighborhood again, I will gladly go out of my way just to try more of their dishes. You do not find spots like this easily. New York City has great food, but a place with this combination of warmth, quality, portion size, and charm is rare. In another city, this could easily be a reservation only spot packed every night. Here, it fits perfectly in the community. Great job to everyone there. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

It's not horrible, but there are definitely some areas that need attention -- especially when it comes to hospitality and cleanliness. Staff is hit or miss. Some are friendly and helpful, others seem like they'd rather be anywhere else, especially during the morning shift. The "seat only complete parties" policy is strange -- particularly when the place is nearly empty. Not exactly the kind of flexibility you expect from a hotel restaurant. Food is fine, but overpriced (as expected in a hotel). Nothing to write home about. Definitely skip the pasta -- especially considering some of the best Italian food in the country is just across the river. My biggest issue was with cleanliness. The salt and pepper shakers on every table were grimy and gross -- the kind of thing you don't want to touch, let alone eat near. If you're going to use communal shakers, they need to be cleaned regularly. It's a basic thing, and it makes you wonder what else is being overlooked in the back of house. Bottom line: I wouldn't choose to come here unless I had to. If it weren't for the convenience during a work trip, this would've been a one-and-done visit.
