I'm very confused by the reviews and the high praise motivated me to make my way 25 minutes to try Fork Hill for brunch with my friend. It wasn't busy on a Saturday afternoon so we were seated quickly. We made a reservation just in case. We started with drinks and I got the Summer Spritz and she got the Lychee Martini. Neither of us liked the drinks. It was not drinkable. It tasted like straight up liquor. I asked for a new drink and my friend felt bad so she kept hers. The staff were very nice and accommodating I will say. Unfortunately I received my mimosa and noticed dirty marks on the rim of the cup. Not sure if it was from the rag but I had to ask for a new one. I hate to be that person but it freaked me out! For food we ordered the chicken and waffles, and french toast and sausage. The food wasn't the worst but not worth the money in my opinion. Sausage was overly salty and french toast was soggy. Flavor was there though. I really wish I liked it because I love a local(ish) spot and the space was super cute and rustic but it missed the mark for me. read more

I can't beleive it's taken me this long to write a review for Fork Hill. It's my neighborhood gem, that I feel so lucky to have so close to home. I've never had a bad experience or meal here. Family owned and run, you can feel all the love and thoughtfulness they put in to this place through the ambiance, service, and food. The menu changes seasonally which I love. I love the level of creativity they put in to creating their menu/dishes. Making sure everything is seasonal and not catering to whatever is trending at the moment, as well as switching up enough where I can try something new, but also look forward to trying some things again next season. I've come here plenty of times already for both lunch and dinner, brunch isn't my thing...but they have that too and I'm sure it is just as delicious. I've tried the chicken sandwich, the short rib, duck, and lamb, and other dishes which have all been delicious. My favorites being their short rib, the duck, and mushroom salad. The short rib is so tender and the polenta creamy and flavorful. The duck was incredible with the crispiest skin, my only note would be that it came with cabbage and a sweet potato apple puree which although complimentary to the flavors with the duck was a little bit too sweet of a combo for me. The mushroom salad is great, those mushrooms have so much flavor, the dressing and pomegranates bring the perfect burst of tang to the rich and meaty mushrooms. Shrimp & Grits is another favorite of mine, great blackened flavor and creamy grits. Their cocktails are great too, a large variety and the bartender is very knowledgeable and knows how to guide you through their options. Truly high quality food that is not overpriced, this neighborhood needed something that was a step up from fast casual with out the nyc prices, that just don't suit this community. Whenever I want a great meal and want to stay close to Home, I come here. Whether it's to treat myself to a great dinner or get some work done remotely during lunch this is my go to spot. Portion sizes are just right, the food is to good to leave any left overs. Can't go wrong with apple Cobbler or chocolate mousse, everything tastes like it's made in house. My biggest flowers and compliments to the chefs putting everything together behind the scenes. Parking can be intimidating at first since it's the middle of a residential neighborhood but it's not impossible. If you turn right on the corner of the restaurant and drive down the hill, you'll eventually find something even if it means a long walk back up. It's worth it! The first time I came here I only had Apple Pay and my phone died, I was so stressed, but they were so kind, passed no judgement and found me a charger. I'll always appreciate that. I've typically been served by the bartender with long black hair, she's very genuine and great at keeping conversation. When I sit down I'm typically served by a very sweet waitress with an accent that I think is Irish(but I'm probably wrong lol) she is also very genuine and warm. I'll be back, as always, highly reccomend if in the area, support a small family owned business! read more

My husband and I ordered the FHK Burger and Cornmeal Pancakes (with fresh fruit for an extra $3). The burger was very very salty so that was a small letdown, but it tasted very homemade. The cornmeal pancakes were delicious, although I was a little disappointed that the fresh fruit for $3 extra were just tiny cut up apples in the pancakes. Food was 3-4 out of 5 stars imo. Taking two points off because of service. We came in with a cup of coffee from home, and the hostess (owner?) said "you cannot bring in outside food or drinks, it's a health code violation." I've never heard of that before in this town but even if it was true, I wish she said it slightly kinder. Then, when my husband's burger came out, the waiter (co-owner?) offered my husband a steak knife and said "in case you want to cut your burger... or stab her" (me, his wife!). Went here for dinner tonight and loved our experience! Very cozy atmosphere and the food was amazing. The service was also quick and our waitress was very friendly and gave recommendations. We had the mussels as an appetizer, and they were the best mussels I think I've ever had, and the crostinis that came with it were to die for. I also had the clam chowder, which was one of their specials, also was delicious. For entrees, I got the risotto and my girlfriend got the salmon with coconut curry. We loved them both and cleared our plates. Lastly, we had the homemade apple cobbler with vanilla gelato, and it was super tasty. One of the best restaurants in the Jersey / Union city area, never come close to a bad meal there. Ambiance is nice, feels more homey vibe with well spaced tables and a nice bar tucked to the left of the restaurant entrance. Great deal on champagne and drink sides for mimosas. Steak and eggs a favorite of mine, they have a nice chimichurri sauce, steak cooked perfectly, cool triangle layer hash brown and perfectly done eggs. That's the thing here, the simple is done to perfection, but then they add a touch of flair. I did the chicken and cheddar waffles w jalapeño syrup this go around - perfect. My wife always does the Burger and LOVES IT, a core life staple. My daughter - chocolate chip pancakes with some powdered sugar, always looks delicious. 4.5 stars After a stellar experience at Fork Hill Kitchen a few months ago, I was ready to return and suggested it for a dinner with some of my girl friends who had never been there. They were similarly charmed by the welcoming atmosphere, gracious owner and staff, and creative art on the walls. While the menu offered the incredible Short Rib entree that I had had previously, I wanted to try something different, so I went with the Roast Duck Breast, which was served over a heavenly trio of that incredible sweet potato puree I loved last time, as well as apples and sauteed cabbage. There was a drizzle of port wine over the dish, which really made the other flavors on the plate pop. My only complaints about this dish were that the duck needed a bit more of the peppercorn dusting that had been on the bottom of the breast, and the meat could have been much more tender; the poultry was a bit tough in parts. One of my friends had ordered the same dish and concurred with this assessment, while our other friend raved about her Short Ribs. We all shared the Apple Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream that I advocated for after my past enjoyable experience with the treat. Yet again, it was completely delicious. Always passed by but first time stopping in. We came to celebrate Father's Day and were warmly welcomed. The interior is nicely decorated and inviting. Food was freshly made, from scratch, and seasoned well. The Partner Ed was a pleasure to chat with and such a genuine guy. Kudos to the chef and cooks as the food was solid and what I enjoyed was their take Steak and eggs. The steak was cooked to my ideal temp and rested. Very nice find in this residential neighborhood. I was visiting friends who had just moved to Union City and we were so happy to find this spot for brunch. The service was excellent and the dishes were hearty and delicious. We were a large group and tried a variety of dishes- from the breakfast-y items to the lunch-y items. Favorite dishes were the FHK Burger which has double smashed beef patties, the chicken and waffles, grain bowl (with chicken), and the salad (with chicken added). The preparation of the chicken on all three dishes with chicken was excellent. The crab cake benedict and the crab cake sandwich were nice. Of the dishes we ordered, the steak and eggs were least favorite. I ordered medium rare and would've preferred the exterior to have a little more texture/crisp than what I got. We showed up late on a Saturday night, about 30 minutes before the kitchen closed, and the staff couldn't have been more kind or accommodating. We started with the mussels -- fresh, flavorful, and gone fast. My wife ordered the orecchiette with sausage, I had the risotto. These are dishes we order often when we go out, and Fork Hill nailed them. Balanced, well-seasoned, and properly cooked -- not always a given. Dessert was simple and well done. The owner stopped by to check on us, which is always a good sign of a place that cares. I have Celiac, and the server was excellent -- knew exactly what I could have, no guesswork or hesitation. Found this place by accident when going to an event at the Meadowlands. Expo Centee. All the restaurants around there are chain. Just drive 10 minutes and you'll find this gem. They had a well appointed brunch/lunch menu. Excellent service, one of the best Bloody Mary's I've had and an excellent burger. 2 very thin patties seasoned and juicy. Nicely carmelized onion and a creamy melted cheese (tasted like American cheese) atop a sesame seed bun that was soft and held up to the juice of the burgers. I added bacon that was good quality cooked just right. Side of homemade fries - they could have been seasoned but that's what salt and pepper are for. My sister had egg Benedict and they were also excellent. Perfectly poached egg lightly dressed with a savory hollandaise and a side of their version or hash browns. Finished with cappuccino. This review is based ONLY on our brunch experience. I ordered the cornmeal pancakes and my partner ordered the chicken and waffles. My partner didn't really enjoy his C+W. He said the chicken was juicy but lacked flavor and texture (it was boneless). The waffle wasn't crispy and also lacked any texture. My pancakes were tasty. Solid choice. My only gripe was that they don't serve real maple syrup. I don't like places that claim farm to table yet they don't serve real maple syrup. Ehhh. Our waitress was super kind and attentive, when I asked her about the syrup (when we ordered) she assured me it was real maple syrup but this wasn't the case when it arrived. Great spot for a casual yet nice brunch in Union City! I ordered the Cubano Sandwich, which had pulled pork, ham, gruyere cheese, pickles, and mustard to go along with fries. I was a pretty classic sandwich but was very tasty, as the bread was crispy on the outside yet still soft to bite through, the cheese was melted, and the pickles added some acidity to complement the savory pork and ham. The $16 price was reasonable for the portion size. The interior is very tastefully decorated with some nice details like white marble tables, menus placed on wooden boards, a wall of wood panels with coffee terms on them, an open kitchen, and other tasteful items. There is a decent amount of seating inside, though for parking, you will have to find street parking nearby. Our waitress was moderately friendly, but not particularly attentive (didn't check up on us during our meal or refill our waters). Overall, the food at Fork Hill Kitchen was certainly very good, but not special enough for me to give it 5 stars. That being said, I'd imagine it has to be one of the best brunch spots in Union City if you're looking for something that's not too fancy, but also nice. What a lovely find during the pandemic. I've had them bookmarked for a long time and mad at myself for waiting this long. Their outdoor patio has been closed since indoor dining has resumed but they still have a nice set up on their sidewalk for those still not ready to take the plunge. Owner was so lovely throughout our experience. From making our reservation to greeting us and checking in on us. Danielle was a great server. The restaurant is definitely well run. Menu is approachable and prices are reasonable for the quality. Love that they are using local seasonal items. They also have some specials available which all sounded phenomenal. The Norwegian salmon was cooked very well and the charred shishitos and miso sauce were perfect accompaniments. Excellent meal at Fork Hill. Started with the stone fruit salad, a great mix of greens, various fruits, nuts, and a great dressing. One of the best salads we've had in awhile. For mains, we had the pork chop and short rib; the pork chop was huge, and cooked almost perfectly for such a large cut. The short rib dish was outstanding, really flavorful with the mushrooms and red wine reduction. The side of squash with parmesan was also excellent. Had the pound cake with cream cheese frosting and peaches for dessert, another winner.
