This cake had 24 alternating layers of spongy chocolate cake and chocolate frosting. It was drizzled in chocolate syrup and sprinkled with powdered sugar. One side was completely topped with chocolate chip morsels with heaping mounds of whipped cream on both sides. This was unbelievably rich and chocolatey in texture. It was also served chilled, which is how I personally prefer to eat cake. I was also highly satisfied with the service. Went there for Father's Day late afternoon/early evening so past the rush. Haven't been there for about 3 years so it's been a while. Didn't really have to wait for a table so that was good. Unfortunately everything else went poorly. Waitress was pleasant enough but didn't seem very attentive. But really the food was absolutely horrible I had the chicken BLT with fries. Bacon was overcooked, and chicken was bland. But the fries were so salty, it was almost inedible. I had to wipe the salt off each fry as I ate them. My sister got a burger and she said it was bland. Fries were also salty and she didn't eat them. My daughter got the fish and chips appetizer. Fish had no seasoning and the fries were too salty. All in all not sure what happened to this place but it's gone really downhill since I last went. Suffice it to say I won't be coming back. read more

Though it has been a number of years since I last left a review today demands an update. I stop in with Red for some lunch. We start with the onion rings which are very good. I ask what the dipping sauce is. "House sauce." "Is it like an apple sauce?" "Yes." Had that taken away because it doesn't sit well with us. I don't know why they don't have the tangy zesty sauce like they do at the fast-food places. Have your own version of it and your onion rings would be amazing. We order 2 pastrami sandwiches on brioche buns, just to keep it simple and not have the order mixed up. ONE SANDWICH comes out sliced in two. "Where's hers? We ordered two." "Will be a couple of minutes." No wrong, it was not a couple of minutes because the kitchen screwed up. I try giving the sandwich to Red, but she is upset both did not come out. So, I slide it back to me waiting for her hot sandwich to come out. (Which was barely warm if you ask her.) I ask our very nice waiter twice, are you sure you ordered two sandwiches. He assures me he did. I find no fault in him. "So why was the sandwich sliced in two?" "They slice them in half." Well, I know the rye ones, are, but her fresh one was not cut, and neither was any other brioche bun I observe coming out of the kitchen. Meanwhile, I ask Red not to eat the salad. It isn't good. Our waiter again politely asks if we would like dessert. I politely ask for the check and to speak to the manager. A woman comes over. It seems every other time we go to Carnegie there is a new manager. I explain the situation to her, and she says the sandwiches come out cut in half. Again, I tell her no, the first one did, Red's did not and neither was any other Brioche bun coming out of the kitchen which I actually observe. I explain that I do not believe the waiter is at fault and someone in the kitchen doesn't know to read 2 sandwiches on an order. I go on to insult the house salad as being "horrible." "We have politely spoken to previous managers in the past and aways said the salad could be better." It never improves; it continues to be warm, wilted and weak seasoning. It never seems fresh. We look the other way every other time but not this time. Speaking of weak, the sauerkraut has almost no flavor, the coleslaw tastes like nothing, the pickle didn't taste like much, and I do not recall tasting any pastrami flavor. This is the problem Carnegie had when it first opens and we politely tell the manager with some changes they can be big. You can see from my prior reviews, things did get better. Nope back to the same old thing. Red didn't have any ketchup or mustard as I did and one of those sauces is currently irritating the back of my throat. So, the condiments are suspect. [Edit: After speaking to Red the next day, she indicates her throat nearly closed from some sort of allergic reaction.] The manager insists they want their customers to leave happy and offered to remove one sandwich from the bill. I paid for the full meal and left a tip for the waiter. "We want our customers to leave happy." "I will be happy just to end this conversation." We quietly leave. I even tell her several times, "I'm a nice guy and normally never complain about things." Even with Red's insistence, I decline the complimentary sandwich to make a point. Why? To prove that I am not the kind of person who complains to get complimentary items. Some people pull that, and I do not. The complaint is real and not inflated. Except for the onion rings, the food is nearly tasteless, and the salad continues to be horrible. Invite me into your kitchen for one hour and watch me make a garlic mash potato to knock your socks off. Comp that to your customers and then watch them leave happy. read more

Perfectly average diner. Don't be fooled by the name, as they do not serve oversized iconic pastrami sandwiches here. My pastrami sandwich was very middling, They do have great happy hour specials though, and you can get some cocktails for very affordable prices. If you're a captive audience in this plaza (with the many surrounding hotels and convention center) then it's an alright choice. If you're just passing through there's probably better options. read more

Sat outside on a beautiful evening. Got a triple decker chicken sandwich. Plenty of food and the chicken had a good flavor. It comes with fries and salad. $19.50. The salad was drenched with dressing. And the fries despite having seasoning on them lacked flavor. Also I asked to sub double salad instead of did fries and it didn't happen. My husband liked his omelet. Our friend got a mocktail which was more expensive than alcohol cocktails during happy hour. It is not really right that they do that. The waitress was nice. Slow to take orders but it was fine because we were with friends catching up. Had the chocolate cake for desert. It tasted like box devils food cake. Came here for a brunch with a friend during dry January so I wasn't able to try the bottomless mimosas or $10 margs but that's okay - next time! The atmosphere here is great - very spacious, lots of tables, a huge bar, and great decor. I made a reservation for a Saturday at 1p, but there were quite a few tables open so maybe didn't need to use it. The menu is huge. They have plenty of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Service was super friendly and fast. I decided to order a mix of breakfast and lunch - I got the pesto breakfast bowl. It looked amazing in the menu pic but in real life it was wayyy too much sauce so the lettuce was soggy. The wings, however, were some of the best wings I've had in a while. Our food was good, nothing really special or memorable. The steak was ordered medium well but came well done and dry. Surprised they would send that piece of meat out to the table. The French toast lacked any depth, if that makes sense. The waitress wasn't as attentive as we're use to, never received a refill on my coffee. We kind of just ate our food and wanted to head out. Finally tried some food after enjoying many happy hours here! Went with the chicken sandwich and the Times Square chicken burger combo. Each came with a little slaw side salad fries and pickle. Both sandwiches were great and cooked as ordered. I could half the Times Square and make two meals! As always the happy hour never fails-went with an ipa and strawberry margarita. So we finally went in for breakfast today , Place is beautiful and very clean . Vibe is awesome , bright and happy with great decor . Menu is good and the presentation is very good as well . My only problem is attention to detail , so that was a bit disappointing. At first I had asked for a Bellini but then I said let's settle for 2 mimosas and yet I ended up with a Bellini . The other issue was I asked for a side of Canadian bacon from the menu and I ended up getting regular bacon ( not really a fan ). So that is lack of attention to detail . Came to Carnegie Diner & Cafe and became a huge fan. The diner is located within the busy Harmon Meadows area of Secaucus, has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, has a long bar, and a friendly/attentive staff. I started with the appropriately named, Vanilla Heaven (espresso, vanilla, steamed milk, and whipped cream) beverage. This coffee was so smooth, creamy, sweet, and served in a large glass. Carnegie only uses LavAzza coffee and you could taste the quality. My entree was the Californian Omelette (avocado, mushroom, tomato, and pepper-jack cheese). It was accompanied by hash browns, farmer's market greens, and rye bread. Each and every forkful was full of freshness, delicious, at the right temperature, and filling. I highly recommend this omelette. Aside from what I happily consumed, Carnegie offers great deals during Happy Hour, has a vast menu encompassing every meal of the day, and they even have cool to-go bags. I will definitely return to the Carnegie Diner and hope everyone experiences their business. read more

this is a really a 3.5, but didn't want to round it down. Rather round it up. Service and hostesses were excellent! Food took a while to be served ~20/25 mins without apps, so kind of long and it was not packed in there. They also brought me the wrong meal, unfortunately. But they were quick to offer to fix it! My chicken avocado club was great. My sister said her Greek salad good as well. Don't think we'd return though. Give it a try and decide for yourself. We found this place as I was searching for somewhere near the movie theater and this caught my eye. There was mixed reviews, but I had to give it a shot. The inside was very pop culture. Very clean and open. Seating was nice and spread out, so you're not sitting on top of other people. I asked our server how long this place has been there and he said 3 years. To start with, we got the guac and chips and the onion rings. Both were excellent. Guac was done perfectly. Onion rings were cooked the right way. The whole onion didn't just come out. It came with the addicting apple based dip. For dinner, we both got the Pastrami. I got the Peter's Special. The meat was as tender as could be and seasoned well. My only complaint was, you only got a single half of a pickle. That's kind of crazy with a sandwich of this magnitude. I honestly dropped a star because the dinner came out before we were even close to finishing the appetizers. That's also considering the fact that we stalled by making believe we didn't know what to order for dinner to help space it out.
