Probably one of the unfriendliest gun stores I've ever been in. I've done thousands of dollars of business with them because they are close by and they have a nice western gun section, but I don't think I can force myself to go there anymore. I'm a decent guy, easy to get along with and knowledgeable about guns, but the employees are so incredibly unfriendly it's unreal. The manager(s) is/are good but I don't want to have to ask for a manager every time I want to look at something or ask a question. Summary: They wouldn't sell to me cause I'm not an AZ resident citing federal laws prevent them, but that's not true according to ATF agent at the Phoenix office. The Legendary Guns employees were extremely rude to me when I tried to talk to them about the law and ask them to ship it to a FFL dealer in CA. More details: On Dec 31 My girlfriend and I visited Legendary Guns to purchase a side by side shotgun for her; we had looked at the shotgun a month prior and finally made the choice to get it. We're both California residents and we visit Arizona frequently cause her family lives there (it was her home town). The employees that day told us that because of federal law they are not allowed to sell to a California resident. This statement felt dubious to me so I questioned them, I asked them which law prevent them to sell to me (I said this having done my own research and reading on the ATF website nothing of the sort, only that the AZ FFL dealer would have to abide by the more stringent CA laws). Several employees jumped the gun and shut me down, repeating "federal law prevents us from selling to you." An older employee, male with white hair aggressively shook the firearms transfer document at me yelling, "This law doesn't let us!!!!" They wouldn't sell me the shotgun that day. I'm back in California now, and today I called the ATF agent at the Phoenix office, (602)-776-5480, who answered all my questions. Yes, an Arizona FFL dealer can sell to a California resident, yes, they have to follow CA laws, yes, they can ship the firearm to a CA FFL dealer near me. I just got off the phone with Ryan, a store manager at Legendary Guns and I told him about my experience at his store and what the ATF agent told me. Ryan was willing to ship the long gun to a CA FFL dealer and sell me the rifle, however, Ryan it seems that that shotgun is no longer in the store, maybe it sold... California gun laws are more stringent and complex than Arizona's gun law, I get that, and it's complicated to be up-to-date on the laws. The ATF agent told me that there are no federal laws preventing any FFL dealer in the United States to sell to any person based on the buyer's out of state residence. If gun dealers, gun stores don't want to sell to someone with an out because it's too complicated for them or whatever reason, that's fine, just own it and don't pass the buck blaming, "strict federal gun laws", that's a cop-out. Special thanks to the manager Ryan for talking to me like a human being, I upped my rating from one star to two for that. Hopefully the shotgun I want is not sold and just put aside somewhere, Ryan said he'd call me, but I figure it's sold or they just don't want to deal with selling to a non-Arizonan. We all want the same thing, to sell and buy guns, it's not that hard to call your local ATF agent to get help interpreting the law. read more

Let me start off by saying we were referred here, and I had the most unprofessional experience today with my Father who is a Vietnam Veteran! I was just looking around making sure my partially blind father got the service he deserves, and was met with a disrespectful A**hole who took ZERO interest in my fathers needs. Which was a simple gun cleaning, that my father was willing to wait the 5-6 weeks that this a** said they were behind in that service. Then he says after, so we don't offer that service here. Not only did he watch my father struggle to put his clip and spring back in the box. He offered NO help. I asked if he could refer me to another store he replied "this is our only location" I get that, but ANOTHER Reputable company that he could recommend. He gave us no knowledge, help, or incentives to make us come back for any future business. This is a good store but it depends on who you run into.....some times I come in to sell stuff and get a deal right away....other times I get a person who tells me we dont want it, and I ask how do you know when you have not even heard the price? So I mention the name of the person I have sold to before and he is not there--I told them the price and then they bought. Some of these staff just don't know how to deal. I am a female who knows minimal about guns.. I've shot them before but I had never bought one before and vaguely knew what I wanted (at the guidance of my dad!) I felt very nervous going in because I was worried I was going to look stupid and be talked down to.. I was helped by Dave and he was nothing but amazing. He agreed with the recommendations of my dad, and made me feel good about my purchase, and helped explain why my dad was recommending what he did. He did not talk down to me like I was expecting (being a know-nothing in a gun shop), and was extremely helpful, warm, and down to earth. I was so happy with my purchase and he talked with me about recommendations to get me comfortable with the 357 revolver I purchased, and about which ammo to use. He was so kind to me, it turned an experience I was frankly anxious about, into a great experience. This shop is further from me than a lot of gun shops, but I will still be going here for any future needs I have. I was directly helped by Dave, but everyone behind the counter was very professional and kind to everyone I saw, even though the store was insanity when I walked in! Made an appointment to have a gun appraised when we got there the person that was supposed to help us wasn't there we called ahead to make sure he was there, the people that were there just guessed at what it was worth, we drove 50 miles one way to get the appraisal so 100 mile trip for nothing. read more

That was a bad experience for me. And I felt like their boss spit in my face. I was planning to buy a glock, I already filled out all the paperwork, and one of the employees was showing me the bullets. So I look down in the glass case, and see a 1911 that was cheaper than the glock. I kindly ask if I can switch to that, cause it was friendlier on my wallet, and the boss kicks me out. That was rude, and I really wasn't trying to offend anybody. I asked nicely and the boss says "I'm not comfortable with this. You need to leave. Did you give him his ID back?" He hands me my ID and tells me to leave. I don't know what I did to deserve that kind of treatment, other than just trying to get a gun cheaper than what I was originally trying to get for financial reasons, and I get kicked out. That was a terrible experience and I feel disrespected by it. I meant no disrespect cause I wanted to buy the other one cause it was cheaper and easier on my finances. It felt like he didnt want to sell me the gun cause it was cheaper, and he didnt want me buying anything cheaper. It felt like he was being greedy, and wanted me to spend more so when I didn't he kicked me out. It felt like he just wanted to take all my money. I talked to some friends and they agreed how rude and petty the man in the store was being, and how that was bullshit, cause all I wanted to do was get something that was easier on my wallet and finances. It was unnecessary to be that way to someone over something as petty as wanting to get a cheaper gun, cause I was worried about how much of a hole it'll put in my wallet. That is the most petty thing I ever heard of. Kicking someone out and refusing to sell, cause they wanted something cheaper is petty af. That's so fuckn petty and unprofessional. Both times, they didn't seem to pleased to do this. There was lots of kvetching about the paperwork. When I came in for pick up, I received lots of surliness. I don't except to be fawned over at a gun shop, but you know, some civility would be great. Three stars because some of the staff are actually really nice - it depends on if you're lucky enough to deal with them, and because they do communicate in a timely manner. I still went to the store since they were the only store that had what I was looking for and the guy over the phone was great. I have to give these guys 5 stars. I haven't bought a gun from this establishment but I did sell them one and was very happy with the process. I walked in later in the day and asked if they would buy a gun. They didn't ask any stupid questions like they did in other establishments: "this is yours?" "you were able to shoot this?" "why didn't get a smaller caliber gun?" They just asked why I was selling it, I explained why and that was it. Wow, I dropped my AR-15 off, almost a month ago for a Basic Cleaning. I had completely forgotten about it and today, I remember as I have a Shooting Competition Tomorrow. So I show up, and it's sitting there on a rack labeled "Waiting"! The woman/gunsmith said she would have it cleaned and my light battery changed in 2-3 weeks. If the Gun Cleaning Demand is that high at thIs place, why, as a business owner, would you not hire more staff to complete this highly profitable service? As a Business owner, I always wonder how plaaces like this stay in business? Especially when there is a Gun Store on almost every corner in Phoenix!
