Colossal Naked Shrimp Cocktail**
Alan C.

Obviously, plenty of parking since it's in the assembly row area. I sat at the bar so service is actually pretty quick came by dropped off. The two menus asked for a drink. I was a hot day so it was nice to be able to sit in the air-conditioned bar area enjoying the soccer game. Came here for their happy hour menu. Had the shrimp cocktail, which was great. Shrimp was chilled but not too cold went great with the cocktail sauce and squeeze of lemon. Next came the fried scallop, which was a little bit of a mixed bag. First off the crust, breading fell off very easily, meaning that it properly wasn't dried well prior so the breading just slid right off. Scallops were OK sized not huge but then this is the happy hour menu so don't expect too much. The Rhode Island style calamari also encountered the same issue where the breading fell off very easily. Still tastes good though, along with the jalapeños. Overall good to fill up with a beer and 3 apps. Decent place to drop by with happy hour but could use more selections and better prep for frying.

This meal just made me sad. I grew up in Boston, and my father was a huge fan of the original Legal Sea Foods in Inman Square. Occasionally he would take all six of us kids there for a special meal. My father was a locally known weatherman, and the Berkowitz family, who owned the restaurant, knew him well. He was friendly with the owners and many of the longtime waitresses. At the time, Legal Sea Foods felt revolutionary. Food was brought out as soon as it was ready instead of waiting for the entire table. The goal was to get it to you as fresh as possible. You even paid when you ordered, despite having full table service. It was a unique experience and a place I remember very fondly. Fast forward many years. I was back in Boston for my father's funeral and found myself craving fried scallops, something that is nearly impossible to find outside New England. My husband, one of my sisters, and I decided to come here for dinner. We arrived around 5:00 p.m., and the restaurant was surprisingly empty. I would have preferred a booth, but we were seated at a table with our server, Ruben. Unfortunately, the service set the tone for the evening. My husband ordered a large beer that never arrived with the other drinks. When we asked about it, the beer finally came, but it was a small instead of the large he ordered. He also ordered a bowl of chowder and received a cup. Each time we pointed out a mistake, Ruben did not apologize or offer to correct it. He mostly shrugged and walked away. From our table, we had a clear view of the pass. I could see our food sitting there ready to go while servers chatted and checked their phones. It sat for several minutes before anyone bothered to bring it out. The food itself was okay. My fried scallops were fine, although they were a little cold by the time they reached the table. The onion strings, which I remembered as something special, arrived clumped together in a greasy mass and were nothing like I remembered. And mind you this meal was not cheap and I'm certain Rueben make money on tips (or at least he could if he was a competent server) Maybe this experience simply proves that you can never count on old memories. What was once a beloved local institution now feels like a restaurant trading on its name. I cannot help but think the Berkowitz family would be horrified to see what has become of their legacy. Maybe the millions they sold it for made it worthwhile. For the customers, though, it feels like something important was lost along the way.

Swordfish - good, best with sauces on the side
Madeleine B.

Got lunch here and had okay food with excellent service. We got the Tuna tataki and the swordfish. The tuna was cooked well but the rub was very strong and overpowering. We are glad our server gave us the option of having sauces on the side for the swordfish. The fish was juicy and meaty. The snap pea side was pretty flavorless, didn't get any mint flavor and could have used salt, the corn was fine. Our server was awesome, very chill, nice, and helpful, very fast, gave helpful tips, 10/10. We came here because we had a gift card and we'd come back to finish it off but the flavors were were overall basic and poorly balanced so wouldn't spend my own money here.

Haddock
Emile L.

Had the haddock, steak frites, chowder, crab cakes and street corn chicken dip. The chicken dip was the best thing we ordered. Everything was basic. Essentially tasted like the fish entree on united airlines first class. Won't be back. Chain has fallen off after the pandemic. Service was nice and food was quick.

Quarter Pound Maine Lobster Roll

Came last minute with a group of 16 people! More than accommodating on short notice, they split all our bills up no questions and we left a hefty tip. Drinks were strong, and oysters were phenomenal. However, all the other food -- including clam chowder and lobster rolls-- were average, and simply dry. I would return for oysters in the future! Service was great for accommodating and getting every order correct

Baked Lobster Mac & Cheese
Mackenzie W.

I was super excited for the lobster Mac n cheese but it was unfortunately the worst lobster I had my whole trip. I really should have sent it back because it was very obvious that it was old/ had been frozen. It had a very fishy taste to it and the Mac was pretty flavorless as well. However my husband loved his tuna steak and it was delicious.

Grilled Sirloin Steak Tips* **

I'll be honest here. The name itself use to carry a lot more. It was a Friday night and the place was half empty. The host had her back to the door and wasn't paying attention until she heard a noise. We got sat and the serve took a minute to come over which was fine, however it took a while to get drinks and when our app came out the server never checked in on us to see how they were. He came over to ask us if we were ready to order and we had asked a question to which he answered and walked away. We sat there for a good period of time waiting to order, but he was no where to be seen until another party showed up. When he took our order he seemed scattered using the electronic handheld to talk the order. Our drinks were empty, but he wasn't around to order another and when he came over to ask about our food he only asked if one of us wanted a drink while the other was chewing and unable to order. We were basically done with our meals by the time the first drink came to the table. From that point on our server glued himself to this one table. Never looked around for us to get his attention, or even attempt to look away. By that point there was no chance we wanted to wait for desserts. He asked and we said nope we were all set. Now that probably would have been a good indication that we wanted our check, but he disappeared and then went right to that same table and proceeded to chat while we waited for 20 mins to leave, but unable to cash out. I'll be honest this was pretty horrible service. I would have said the food was good only it was like warm and bland, but if I waited for the server to come over to get it fixed I would have never eaten. But hey at least the bartender had their stuff together because the whiskey smash was great. This was the first time in a few years that I've been to a Legal Seafood and now i don't see myself going back. Seems like the company's standards have fallen.

Cape cod bay scallops special

Legal C Bar at Assembly is a solid C. You could do far worse in a restaurant pick, but also much better. The dining room is nice and there is an adjacent lot with free parking for up to 3 hours. We were seated and our server was right on top of us asking for our drink order. As soon as our server keyed in our drinks he was back asking what starters he could get going. At that point I advised that we were looking forward to a relaxed and enjoyable meal and were not in a rush. I think he got the message at that point. The restaurant was maybe 15% full. The cocktails we ordered were delicious as was the Bang Bang cauliflower appetizer. For dinner, I tried the cape scallop casserole, which was a special as these delicious scallops are now in season. I think our dish was rushed to the table as some of the scallops were cold in the center, a few were warm, but nothing on the plate was hot, including the sides (fries, street corn). While I undercook these gems at home, I'm sure to serve them warmed through. We got our servers attention and told him, and he said he would have the kitchen rewarm the scallops. He left us with the other sides, which at least we had something to eat, but by the time the scallops came back, our sides were cold. A manager came by before the scallops came back and offered to buy us dessert, a nice gesture. The same portion of scallops were returned, and they were hot this time, but.... We tried the chocolate pudding cake, which was nice. This is a very rich and decadent dessert. Unfortunately the cup of coffee I ordered was barely luke warm. Sigh. I hate being that guy, but really? I mentioned this to our waiter when he came by and he walked away, and brought us our check, removing the charge for the coffee. I get it, maybe he thought nothing could please me. Legal used to be one of our favorites, and it rarely disappointed. It's something very different today with some things coming from the kitchen hot and delicious and others well, not so much. When spending good money to dine out, you may want to choose a place that consistently deliver. Our recent visits to any of the legal outposts are wildly inconsistent. Your mileage may vary.

Legal Seafoods Chowder
Christian L.

Pitch perfect Legal Sea. Its food was delicious and the staff happy and cheerful! The bar is gigantic and they serve wine, beer, seltzers and hard liquor. Folks were ordering shots, margaritas and cappuccinos. There are items on menu, for any price range. Was welcomed without reservation. Review: 5

Came for national chowder day and it was soooo good! This was my first time having clam chowder and it was the best, I don't know why I didn't try it sooner. I'm not really a lover of seafood but this was definitely an exception. I had the fried chicken sandwich as a main and it was sooo crispy. Even though it was a busy night the staff was so nice and attentive. The restaurant was also really nice and cozy. They also gave warm hand towels at the end! Can't wait to go again.

Petit lobster roll with cup of lobster bisque, fries, and coleslaw
Masmin P.

This is a Legal C Bar, which is the slightly hipper and edgier version of the legal seafood chain. We liked it. Dining space is great, with the soaring exposed ceilings, turquoise leather banquettes, and food served on deep ocean blue earthenware plates. Our server Corey was awesome, and made things happen when I casually inquired about the Thai -style calamari that had been off the menu for several years. Delish! We enjoyed everything we ordered- Thai-style calamari, crabcake, fried fish sandwich, and lobster roll. Wish we had time for dessert, because the triple bon bons (mini pastries with ice cream filling, if I remember correctly) are one of my faves.

Visited for dinner during a layover in Boston, by a friend's recommendation. Really worth it. The place was packed, it was a Saturday night but we did not have to wait long for our food to come out. Definitely coming back when in town. I liked the vibe around the bar area and the starters looked great. Next time!

Yesterday evening , my family and I visited Legals Seafood in Somerville. I inquired about sitting outside, and the hostess confirmed that we could. However, 15 minutes later, the hostess appeared outside, and when I asked when our waitress would take our order, she apologized for the delay. A waitress then emerged and approached the table in front of us to take their order. My mother pointed out that we had arrived before them, and I concurred. Another couple to our left also received attention from a waitress, with the lady acknowledging that we had arrived before them. I decided to speak with the manager, relaying the events and expressing my disappointment. The manager acknowledged that the mistake was his fault and offered to expedite our food. I declined, stating that I was not trying to make the issue a racial concern, Yes the other customers were caucasian. but rather highlighting how it would feel if a similar situation occurred at an African American restaurant. I asked the manager how he would feel in that situation, and he responded that he understood. I disagreed, stating that he had no idea how it felt. He gave me a gift card yes I took it and left. Also I forgot to mention The second table they came over to my mom and son and said f that waitress and f legals and they left. DOPE!! We went to Earls, food was amazing!

You're most likely be sharing a table with other diners. The mussels in a spicy flavorful red sauce were cooked perfectly. They only came with 2 small pieces of grilled bread. If you like to dunk your bread and soak up all the yummy broth, ask for more bread when you order. The fries dipped in there are also really good! Lobster roll was delicious and juicy on a buttery brioche bun. So much lobster! And the fries are so crispy and salty! My friend ordered the North End Cioppino that comes in a rice spicy brodo with clams, mussels, shrimp, and 2 types of fish (I forget what they were). The broth was ok and the whole shrimp was a chore to eat. The mussel sauce would've been better. Note: one small dark bathroom at end of bar Parking is very hard to find as most are resident. We tried a variety of oysters, cocktail shrimp, and the razor clams which we heard were amazing. All I'm gonna say is, I would have been annoyed if I waited in line for hours for the items we got. The cocktail shrimp was decent - it was a good size, juicy, and delicious. The razor clams were a miss. Rubbery and too many other things in the dish overshadowing the clams. We got two different kinds of fresh clams which my husband said were okay. I'm not a fan of fresh clams. The oysters were good, but after having been to Row 34, I can't justify standing in line for oysters in a place that doesn't have much else worth trying.

I had eaten at The Daily Catch's Brookline location years ago (it no longer exists), and I always…read moreremember it as a great meal. So when I was visiting Boston with my husband two weeks ago, I thought this Waterfront location would be a great spot for dinner on our first night in Boston. The family behind The Daily Catch opened their first business in Boston (in the North End) in 1973 - a small storefront selling calamari. Since then, it's become a bit of an institution in Boston, with several locations and now a full-service, large-menued Sicilian-style seafood and pasta restaurant. I waited an hour outside their Brookline location when I ate there years ago, and the wait was worth it. People who have eaten at their North End location may remember waiting for a bit, too. But this Waterfront location? THEY TAKE RESERVATIONS. Hallelujah. We had a reservation for around 8pm on Friday night and were seated at our table right away upon arriving. The restaurant is beautiful but understated - not flashy or too modern - with indoor and outdoor patio seating. The service was top notch. Our server was PJ, and he was incredible - helpful, friendly, always checking in with us. But even other people stopped by to make sure we didn't need anything. The menu is pretty large, and I wanted A LOT OF IT. Unfortunately, we were only two people and had to order responsibly. We shared the stuffed calamari (calamari stuffed with herbed bread crumbs, pine nuts, and raisins, and served in their red sauce); a Caesar salad (classic, and we added anchovies on top); their black pasta aglio olio (ground calamari, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, romano cheese, and parsley); and their monkfish marsala (pan-seared monkfish medallions with mushrooms in a marsala wine butter sauce). What I loved? That stuffed calamari. I had it almost ten years ago when I ate at their Brookline location. I remembered it, and we had it again. It's an incredible dish. There's a reason their black pasta aglio olio is so popular. It's a classic and very delicious. The ground calamari is such a nice touch, and the dish is fresh and super garlicky and delicious. (They serve their pastas in the pan - it's something they are known for - a charming touch!) I also think their drink menu is great. I had a great glass (or two?) of wine white from Sicily (Pietradolce Etna Bianco - a 100% Carricante grape wine from the Northern slopes of Mount Etna), while my husband had a cocktail (or two?). The only thing that kept this from being an absolutely perfect dinner was the monkfish marsala. The monkfish was cooked beautifully cooked, but I found the sauce very off. It was bizarre - it tasted like maple syrup to me. I think the marsala was too sweet or not cooked out enough or - is it possible?! - something was added for additional sweetness and the balance was off. Way too sweet for me with the fish. We ate the fish but tried to get as much off the sauce off as possible. The only miss in a meal that was otherwise wonderful in service, ambiance, food, and drink! The Daily Catch is a classic for a reason. If you've always wanted to try it, this Waterfront location is great - since they do take reservations here! Great Sicilian food in the heart of Boston.
