This is a neat place - former monastery turned health retreat. The modern building envelops the older church's structure and creates a nice atmosphere. The restaurant has a wall of windows that overlook a partial green space but also a parking lot. This is a buffet with a nice selection of salads & a few desserts - this salad bar is the highlight. The hot entrees were sliced pork loin (which was dry) and a fish & dill potato stew (which was nice). There is also a vegetarian hot main - a carrot/potato mash patty (interesting), wild rice with cranberries (very good) and mixed veg. Drink prices are good and I asked for a house red that was very nice. It's a unique experience and we were amused by the fact that everyone was more quiet than in a usual restaurant - the idea of being in a monastery (even a former one) stayed in people's minds. NB - breakfast is taken in silence, as an ode to the previous inhabitants. The food is a 3-4, and the service & unique nature of it brings it to a 4.

What a treat to discover our monestery serves dinner!! We got $15 discount for staying at the monestery. I would eat here every night if I was staying in Quebec City. Local food served buffet style. Everything was fresh and perfect

A meal at Le Monastere Des Augustines is a leap of faith! _ My only clue that it will be glorious is when I picked up unforgettable snacks at their tiny boutique the day before. These were orbs of choco-pastries that melted in the mouth! They look like munchkins but the healthier kind with no added processed sugar. _ That's why when I found out that the still active monastery maintains a restaurant that cooked with the seasons and used only local produce, I knew I had to have a meal there. The catch is, menu is released five minutes before opening. There are no recent reviews online. Locals I asked don't know much either. For a traveler whose highlights of each trip are the meal experience, this is a big, big gamble . _ FORMAT. All I know is that it's "table d' hote" format (read pre-fixe). And as a monastery restaurant, the resident chef designs the menu on based on certain food preparation principles such as no use of alcohol, caffeine and any processed ingredients, to name a few. _ FOOD. Soup and salad was self-service and buffet-style. I probably went three times because the irresistible choices of organic salads with housemade dressings were so crisp, fresh and unique. Although we got all entrees, my favorite was seared horse meat . Dessert was a blurry of French names I can't pronounce and their signature tea was a great ending to the lunch service. _ My only regret is I didn't get to try the dinner tasting menu with six courses . Next time! We found Le Don on Yelp. Nice interesting decor…read more Le Don has an inexpensive lunch special. We also ordered the signature dumplings : delicious with pleasant ginger notes. The broccoli soup was excellent. Same for the house salad with crispy chickpeas. We enjoyed the Impossible burger and the mushroom risotto: the mushroom risotto is one if the best risottos we've had the privilege to enjoy. The meal was capped with a delicious blueberry crumble and vegan soy latte. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

We started with the panko-fried cauliflower, a creative take on the veggie served with a vibrant green herbaceous sauce that added an interesting layer of flavor. For entrées, I really enjoyed the tostadas -- well-executed Mexican flavors loaded with veggies, cheese, and surprisingly satisfying plant-based "meat" chunks. The Thai tofu and vegetable soup was warm and hearty, although the flavors were a little too subtle for us and could have packed more punch. For dessert, the eleven-layer chocolate cake certainly looked decadent, but unfortunately the vegan interpretation of this indulgent classic didn't quite hit the mark for us. Service was warm and friendly, though a bit slow -- perhaps we're just spoiled by the pace of NYC dining! Overall, Le Don impresses with its creative concept, varied menu, and cozy atmosphere. Set moderate expectations & it's definitely worth a stop for a relaxed vegan meal in Quebec City.

My friends and I each ordered different bowls (Tempeh, Salmon and Pork) and they all looked as delicious as they actually were. The presentation was delicate and the contents were very tasty. The preselected combination of ingredients seems very well thought out and I'd be more than happy to go back and try something different next time. Last but not least, the place is neat, cozy and quiet and the service was fast and friendly. I would 100% recommend trying this place out.

Once we had ordered and went to sit down I saw that five out of the eight or so tables were all dirty. I asked her for a rag and told her I would clean off my table, and in fact that I would clean off all the tables and she handed me two napkins. I said I really need more than this. She took quite a while to get me a clean, wet rag. The trashcan was so disgusting. I did not want to touch it to open the cover to throw my trash scraps out. She went and sat down at a table, watching her show on her phone the rest of the time we were there unless someone came to place an order. Like I said, the food was good, but I feel scared of what the kitchen looks like. And when you're talking about fresh fish, you need things to be clean, clean clean.

Yesterday morning, before our flight back to Phoenix, we walked from the Hilton Quebec to Le Hobbit…read morefor breakfast. It was absolutely amazing. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict (with ingredients I did not know), and I had the Big (2 egg) breakfast. My wife also ordered a side of breakfast potatoes (my breakfast came with the potatoes). Again, it was absolutely amazing. If you want breakfast, and are nearby, I cannot say just how much we enjoyed it. It could not have been better.

We cannot complain about that. Our server was friendly and very charming. The meal was beautifully paced. The restaurant itself is very noisy. The food itself was disappointing. On the recommendation of our server we started with the carrot doughnut. The doughnut itself was lost under a mountain of ricotta. I would not have known that it was carrot, except that she had told us. We ordered two other starters : I ordered the foie gras pate and my boyfriend ordered the fried oysters. The pate was served on a small layer of sunflower butter, which was unnecessary. The pate itself was surprisingly flavorless. Homemade bread and blueberry jam served alongside was quite good. The fried oysters were completely drowned in buffalo sauce, another green sauce and "blue cheese foam". I would not have even known they were oysters. They were served underneath some cucumbers and peppers and lettuce. For our main course, we shared the blood pudding, which, despite the crazy number of ingredients actually was delicious. It was the best thing we ate. It was served with homemade bacon, a roasted artichoke heart, and some mussels croquettes. Seriously a lot going on. For dessert we ordered the spiced orchard dacquoise. Another complex, and I thought overly complicated dish, that my boyfriend felt worked well. It was presented nicely, and I remembered to get a picture of it. All in all, it seemed like there's just way too much going on in each dish and no particular flavor stands out. Two of the dishes, the fried oysters and the carrot doughnut were just sloppy and smothered. The boudin and the dessert were both beautifully plated, and the flavors worked better as well. The foie gras appetizer was unfortunately bland, and the main ingredient did not shine. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe we didn't order the best things? Evidently, they're doing something right because they've been going for 50 years, but we just didn't see that.

Well, they all spoke English and not a lick of French. However, they do offer some traditional Quebec cuisine. They have communal bathrooms downstairs for both genders. Great size food portions. Slightly expensive because they know they will get a lot of tourists. Service was good and attentive. -foie gras poele (pan seared foie gras) 5 - kind of expensive but really tasty. Cut a piece of foie gras with the brioche, and eat it together with the bacon bits and creamy corn. -le pate chinois (Quebec shepperd's pie) 5 - this was better than the meat pie. The braised beef was tender. It was delicious when you eat the beef with the mashed potatoes and creamy corn. This one is worth getting. -la tourtiere facon buche (Quebec meat pie) 3.5 - it has Quebec duck, Nagano pork, and AAA beef together in the pie. I wasn't loving it. I thought it was just okay, it could use more flavor. -maple taffy 4 - kind of sweet from the maple. You might as well try since you're here. They're known for their maple syrup.
