My "fancy" restaurant of choice was "Le Saint-Amour" in Quebec City to try. "Le Saint-Amour" translates to "Holy Love". According to their website, Le Saint-Amour was founded in 1978 by Jacques Fortier and Jean-Luc Boulay. Their focus is on combining tradition with innovation (i.e. haute French cuisine with exceptional regional products along with combining traditional know-how with modern techniques). The end goal is to offer a gourmet, refined, and unique gastronomic experience. I tried the following: - Appetizer - Seared Foie Gras - Main Course - Lamb (with mustard, herbs, Louis d'Or cheese, polenta) - Cocktail - Mezcal (Naked & Famous) I loved their Foie Gras and Lamb. Complex and interesting flavors which really means "Party in my Mouth". Lamb was perfectly cooked and not gamey. We tried a few desserts - and while I don't remember the exact name of the dishes, I remember that I loved both desserts. Presentation & Flavors were top notch. My friend ordered a steak dish and her daughter ordered a spaghetti dish. I had a bite of my friend's steak (and perfectly cooked & flavored). Ambiance - CLASSY Service - Top Notch! I loved our waiter... for my cocktail, I said surprise me (only requirement was Mezcal as the liquor of choice). There was also a different waitress that would bring out the dishes (goodness - she was super passionate about food and dishes; great energy!) 100% GO while in Quebec City!! Food was delicious. Ambiance was classy. Service was excellent and passionate. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Amour Amour Amour.

Simply the Best restaurant in Quebec City. Convenient location in the heart of Old Town. Perfect place for any special occasion birthday or anniversary date. The 7 course French tasting menu is superb and offers the best of local meats and fruits. The preparation is exquisite and so delicious. Small portions are just right. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. The main dining room is beautifully decorated like Belle Epoque Paris. With wine, tax (15% in Canada ! ) and tip we spent $535 Canadian which is only about $387 US dollars total for 2 people. Well worth it for such a memorable dinner.

    Excited to try

We made reservations for in advance for this fabulous Restaurant in old Quebec city we opted for the inspiration tasting menu with wine pairing and added on the five different presentations of fois gras. From the moment we arrived to the very last dish of the night the service was impeccable. The explanation and delivery of each dish was done with excellence and proficiency. We had an outstanding experience. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated which makes for an excellent dining experience. We had the best time & each dish was more outstanding than the previous. If you love food & appreciate a fine dining experience then this is the spot in Quebec city.

We had a nice meal here and enjoyed our food. Service was a bit slow, however and it took a long time between courses. We had to ask a couple of times for items. I actually would rate it more of a 3.5 star due to this and compared to other restaurants in the area. We had more memorable experiences at other restaurants in the area.

Can you give a restaurant 6 stars? Everything was wonderful. We had the tasting menu and switched the foie gras course to the five different foie gras plate (an excellent decision). We weren't sure that we wanted the piglet plate, but it was unique and delicious. The service was helpful and attentive. The room is visually appealing and comfortable.

This is a review of the 7 course tasting menu for $155 CAD. We opted to replace the foie gras dish with the 5 different kinds of foie gras for an additional $20 and also opted to replace the pork dish with a wagyu dish, which was an additional $30. The additional supplemental fees were not mentioned during the ordering process. Overall, the dishes were beautifully crafted, each like a piece of art, that I didn't want to destroy. They all tasted as good as they looked as well, with the foie gras and the wagyu carpaccio being the highlights. The reason it is only 4 stars is because the service was extremely slow and the pacing of the meal could have been better. For a 7 course meal, it took us almost 3 hours to finish. On average, we waited 15-20 minutes between each course, which felt way too dragged out. If I were to visit again, I would order ala carte, and get the foie gras again for sure!

Le restaurant Le Saint-Amour est merveilleux. Fantastique. ***** Restaurant Le Saint-Amour is wonderful. Fantastic. If you are in Quebec City and you like fine dining, you have to go to Restaurant Le Saint-Amour. I made my reservation several days in advance and with that, I unfortunately arrive late. I fully intended to be on time but there is a lack of uber drivers and taxis in Quebec City so I had to drive myself. It's 1.5 km (only 9/10ths of a mile) so not far from where I am in St. Roch, but there is no parking near the restaurant on the street. I called the restaurant to let them know I was going to be late and they told me not to worry they would keep my reservation and they directed me to a parking lot nearby. I was almost 30 minutes late but was greeted with a smile and quickly seated by Francois (hope I got his name right!) who was as kind and personable as he could be... I ordered the 7-course Discovery Menu inspired by local Quebec products with the food and wine pairing. This. Was. Phenomenal. No words. Some featured dishes: 1. Classic foie gras terrine, Quebec flavours, ground cherry jelly, pear butter local candied berries and toasted house made brioche 2. Canadian bison sirloin, leek confit, king mushroom with garlic and thyme onions in three ways: grilled, purée and marinated in red wine, roasted hazelnuts meat jus 3. Halibut from Saint-Laurent Estuary, crushed tomatoes with basil, pine nuts, daisy buttons, cattail heart, white butter and tomato water Every dish was delicious and every wine pairing was perfect. I really can't say enough good things and the service was impeccable. I felt very pampered and it was a fantastic evening, a great experience and I would return whenever I am in Quebec - maybe again before leaving to try other wonderful dishes. Impeccable atmosphere, service and cuisine. What's not to like?

First time visiting Quebec and at the recommendation of our Concierge splurged for a delicious anniversary dinner. Went with the Discovery Chef's selection and wine pairing, can say the selection and wine pairings were all delicate, tasty and well matched, made for a special celebration dinner.

We could only get a reservation for 9:15 because it was last minute on a Saturday. Which seemed odd when we arrived since it was nowhere near full. My husband ordered the 7 course chef's menu. I ordered an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. And we had a bottle of local wine that was very good. The 7 course dinner was good. But it was so much food, like each course should have been smaller to lead up to the main course. He said everything was delicious. But the service between courses, sometimes we would wait 20 minutes for the next course. We did not leave until almost midnight. I had the red deer carpaccio (picture included) as an appetizer. I am not lying when I say this was one of the most interesting dishes I've ever had, in the best possible way. Every bite was different and complex and delicious. Mascarpone, mushrooms, cranberries, etc. On top. Beautiful plate and texture. Just delicious. I had the bison sirloin for the main course. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked. The side dish had gingerbread in it so it tasted festive like the holidays in your mouth. But the vegetables were slightly undercooked so not soft to bite. For dessert I had the chocolate hazelnut creme brûlée with fresh blueberries. It was on fire when it arrived, so the caramelization was warm and fresh. I don't even like blueberries but they were fresh and not overpowering. Overall a very good dessert. TLDR- expensive and slow service. Good food (some even great food) but the 7 courses isn't the best value. Get the red deer carpaccio.

    Anniversary "treats"!

We had a beautiful anniversary celebration at the wonderful Le Saint-Amour. Our food was fabulous and the service impeccable. It was the perfect place to make a lifetime memory - many thanks!!

As a foodie, you're probably certain you want to eat here. Why? First, it's rated 4.5 stars on Yelp (as of this writing) Second, it's located on a quiet street in Quebec City's old upper town, making it feel eons away from the ornate Chateau Frontenac and bustling Petit-Champlain. Third, the name: the Saint of Love. Even Pepé Le Pew is blushing. In the spirit of keeping this practical, I'll let you in on a few details that can push your experience to the max: Attend the lunch service as the sunlight trickles in from the glass ceiling, illuminating each vibrant and colorful dish. Like a painter's palette, the food's ingredients can range from a vibrant turtle green to a deep pumpkin orange. These are the details you'll savor with your eyes first. Furthermore, the weekday lunchtime "table d'hôte" or pre-fixe menu is relatively affordable for a place of this stature. A 3-course meal at a 4 dollar-sign restaurant that will make you feel like a million bucks without breaking the bank. Lastly, let the chef and waiter be your guide into the curious world of French cuisine. There are dishes here that we'll probably never encounter again in our lifetimes (see attached photo of what we believe is a Salmon Terrine). The inventiveness comes without compromise to texture or taste, only to one's senses of what is possible in cooking. All in all, Le Saint-Amour delivers on all fronts. A must eat.

Delicious delicous delicious. This place has really tasty french cuisine. We got the 7 course discovery. It came with a starter lobster bisque, foie gras, bison, halibit, a palate cleanser sorbet, Guinea fowl, and a desert. Also all you can eat bread with salted butter and honey garlic butter. All of the food was really delicious and rich with flavor and clean. The foie gras is a must have. Its the best that I have had so far. This place is very expensive but if ur here just get the $145 7 discovery menu, you wont regret it. They do speak english. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Give this place a try.

Duck supreme, savoury carrot cake, duck heart, black spruce sauce with an extra portion of seared foie gras

Found this on Yelp with great reviews and made a reservation for 2 for dinner. When we arrived, there was no one at the front to greet us and we stood there for a about 10 minutes with no one acknowledging us, even when a server walked passed us a few times. Until I asked if someone will be coming, then the server said someone will be with us. Once we were seated, the service was very attentive. There is a choice of either having a 7 course tasting menu or going a La carte. The 7 course tasting menu no's basically a smaller portion of items on the menu. We opted for the a La carte as we wanted to try other items that were not on the tasting menu. The restaurant is known for its foie gras so if you don't like that, this may not be the best restaurant for you. We had the foie gras experience and the wagyu carpaccio. The foie gras experience was amazing and the flavours with the sweet and savoury mixed in well as each bite exploded with flavours. The wagyu carpaccio was ok- flavours were very good but the quality of the wagyu was not as good as it was veiny and did not melt in your mouth. We had the squab and the duck supreme as the mains. Our server recommended that we add a piece of seared foie gras on top for an extra price. What a great recommendation! It was a fairly large piece of foie gras and enhanced the dishes. And this was the best foie gras I had outside of France. My husband had a glass of wine to pair with the carpaccio and another one to pair with the duck based on the recommendation from the server. For dessert we had the ice sphere and the sweet clover mousse at the recommendation of the server. Both excellent choices. The sweet clover mousse was shaped as a candle and was so light and not very sweet. The ice sphere was really cool looking and was very good and not very sweet either. Amazing meal and a definitely must try.

The sphere dessert so tart and delicious. The passion fruit and coconut combination is a taste of being on the beach in Maui.

Great atmosphere (we opted for indoor seating since it was rather warm out), excellent service, and food that was easily some of the best we had during our weeklong stay in the city. Definitely try the rabbit. There are a few variations available. We had the Tourte Lapin and the Rable de Lapin along with a fondue to share. Also, some great local beers and a rose cidre to quench our thirst.

A Delicious Lunch in the Heart of Old Québec…read more We stopped into Lapin Sauté for lunch following a wonderful walking tour of Old Québec, and it proved to be the perfect place to relax and enjoy a memorable meal. Both of us opted for the table d'hôte menu, which included an appetizer, main course, dessert, and tea or coffee. We happily paid the small supplement to begin with the Duck Foie Gras served with strawberry-rhubarb jam and brioche--a decision we did not regret for a second. The foie gras was rich and silky, while the sweet-tart jam provided a beautiful contrast. For our entrées, I chose the Pulled Rabbit Poutine with devil's sauce. Comfort food elevated to another level, it was hearty, flavorful, and utterly satisfying. My dining partner selected the Cassoulet with duck sausage and duck leg confit. While the duck was excellent, it was the beans that stole the show--perfectly cooked, deeply flavored, and exactly what a great cassoulet should be. We finished with desserts: a traditional Far Breton for me and a beautifully executed Crème Brûlée for my dining partner. Both were wonderful endings to an already excellent meal. The service was warm and attentive, the ambiance charming and inviting, and the food delicious from beginning to end. Located in the heart of Old Québec, Lapin Sauté is exactly the kind of restaurant travelers hope to discover--authentic, welcoming, and serving food that leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended, and we would gladly return on our next visit to Québec City.

It was directly in front of and below the bar such that you could both eat dinner and drink at the bar simultaneously. Totally unacceptable. We requested a change to either outdoors or another indoor table which was away from the bar in a corner toward the front of the place. They really know how to celebrate food and have put great thought into their food combinations, elevating good quality ingredients into a fine dining experience. Le Hobbit is a cozy spot with a corner view of the city's dining/shopping street with great 2 seater tables to enjoy the private ambiance as well as some longer tables for groups of 4, 6, 8 to gather. Reservations is highly recommended/required. The atmosphere is very cozy with wood themes and very private. We had: - house lemonade - the foie gras seed butter and blueberry jam app; this is served on a broiche with a large amount of foie gras and homemade roasted sunflower seed butter; this was a very flavorful and filling starter for two - Poulet de Cornouailles - cornish roasted hen (the whole bird, small); was very delicate, served on mashed turnips, topped with an artistic grilled turnip and other veggies to cover the protein, it was a great experience to taste each component of the dish and have it come together well - veal flank steak with sauce on carrot puree and bitter vegetables - dessert (which changes frequently) was an artistic experience, a spiced cake with sauce, a uniquely (not my favorite) ice cream with candied bitter citrus peel served on top of toasted granola/sweetened biscuits The serving staff was super knowledgeable and presented each course and dish when served with further explanations on the ingredients, process, as well as how to best experience the dish. Most of the staff are also LOTR fans, so there is a nice opportunity to geek out together and see the inspiration for some of the dishes. Very much recommended for a nice evening out in Quebec City.

We cannot complain about that. Our server was friendly and very charming. The meal was beautifully paced. The restaurant itself is very noisy. The food itself was disappointing. On the recommendation of our server we started with the carrot doughnut. The doughnut itself was lost under a mountain of ricotta. I would not have known that it was carrot, except that she had told us. We ordered two other starters : I ordered the foie gras pate and my boyfriend ordered the fried oysters. The pate was served on a small layer of sunflower butter, which was unnecessary. The pate itself was surprisingly flavorless. Homemade bread and blueberry jam served alongside was quite good. The fried oysters were completely drowned in buffalo sauce, another green sauce and "blue cheese foam". I would not have even known they were oysters. They were served underneath some cucumbers and peppers and lettuce. For our main course, we shared the blood pudding, which, despite the crazy number of ingredients actually was delicious. It was the best thing we ate. It was served with homemade bacon, a roasted artichoke heart, and some mussels croquettes. Seriously a lot going on. For dessert we ordered the spiced orchard dacquoise. Another complex, and I thought overly complicated dish, that my boyfriend felt worked well. It was presented nicely, and I remembered to get a picture of it. All in all, it seemed like there's just way too much going on in each dish and no particular flavor stands out. Two of the dishes, the fried oysters and the carrot doughnut were just sloppy and smothered. The boudin and the dessert were both beautifully plated, and the flavors worked better as well. The foie gras appetizer was unfortunately bland, and the main ingredient did not shine. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe we didn't order the best things? Evidently, they're doing something right because they've been going for 50 years, but we just didn't see that.

Fantastic meal! My…read moreChez Boulay experience was one of the highlights of my visit to Quebec. Quite frankly I had many excellent meals in Quebec but this was one I'll remember for a while. The "36 Hour Beef Cheeks" w/miso celeriac purée and roasted celeriac did not disappoint. The beef cheeks were incredibly tender, fork tender to be exact, beefy flavorful and filling. The miso celeriac pure was very rich dressed up with the au jus. The flat iron steak with the roasted beets, fries and veal au jus might have been better in my opinion. The flat iron was a perfect medium rare and super tender. The Salmon Carpaccio was a great starter too. I also needed refills of the sough dough bread, it was easily addictive. All the dishes did not lack in letting the key ingredient taking a lead role. The staff was outstanding. I arrived slightly early and was happily greeted and seated quickly. Service during my meal was extremely professional. The restaurant was spotless and modern. I'd come back for sure.

On our very first night in Québec City, we wandered into Chez Boulay Bistro Boréal looking for…read moredinner. We didn't have a reservation, but were fortunate enough to find seats at the bar--and honestly, it was perfect. For me, it was even preferable to the dining room, allowing us to watch the team at work while enjoying the warm and inviting atmosphere. We began with the Duck Foie Gras Terrine with pine forest spikenard, brioche tartine with larch and buckwheat praline, and a garnish of apples and aronia. We also added the sautéed foie gras, which elevated an already exceptional appetizer into something truly memorable. For our main courses, I chose the Québec Braised Beef Cheek with miso celeriac purée, roasted celeriac, wintergreen herb relish, and wild caraway veal jus. The beef was meltingly tender and deeply flavorful. My dining partner selected the Elzéar Venison Pâté en Croûte with balm poplar, Isle-aux-Grues plum mustard, hawthorn relish, and pimpina gel. Beautifully executed and rich with distinctly boreal flavors, it was both refined and comforting. We also shared a side of the duck breast lacquered with cranberries and schisandra, served with polenta flavored with dune pepper and braised winter lettuce. The standout for my dining partner was the polenta, formed into a crisp log with a beautifully crunchy exterior and soft center. He declared it his favorite preparation of polenta ever. From the attentive service to the inviting ambiance, everything was outstanding. Located in the heart of Old Québec on Rue Saint-Jean, Chez Boulay provided a delicious and memorable welcome to our holiday week. It was the perfect introduction to the cuisine, ingredients, and hospitality of Québec. Great food, great service, great atmosphere--simply perfection. Highly recommended. We would happily return on our next visit to Québec City.
