    Quebec meat pie
    Sandy J.

Ordered the set menu: Special Quebec set (appetizer, main entree, dessert, coffee/tea) for about 30 CAD (21 USD) with tax and tip expect that to be more of a 28 USD. I think this was worth getting if you are trying find a place with a bit of everything to sample local fare. Out of the set menus out there, I thought this one had the more comprehensive offer. Appetizer: Canadian pea soup- this is more of a hearty split pea soup with possible bacon in it. Not vegetarian. but quite good and a good welcome after wandering around cold snowy Quebec. Entree: Quebec meat pie w/ gravy on the side, fries and salad. The meat pie makes me think of a Chinese beef burger- so if you're into asian fare, consider this set for sure. The gravy is must to bring the pie to life and that's where it stops tasting like a Beijing meat pastry. Fries were actually quite good- well made. Salad was with a mayonnaise type of dressing. Dessert: maple syrup pie- I see people complaining on the side it's small but for this set, you're pretty full that this size is perfect to tie up a meal with a sweet ending. You can taste the maple syrup, sweet, decadent with a home made crust. inside has a casual atmosphere- think pub meets Canadian log cabin. Didn't get the 5 start not because of the food but because of the attitude of our server. they weren't mean and the service was efficient and fast, but I had the overall impression they were kind of judgy and not very warm even though I was already speaking some French. They gave enough of a cold attitude that it actually affected this overall meal. I would come back for the food but hope we don't get the same server.

We went for breakfast and returned for dinner! This is a hidden gem! Food is really good, fast and attentive service and they speak 3 languages! We will go back tomorrow. Do not understand why people make huge lines instead of going here. We found a place to sear both tones, no wait. All staff are so nice too!

Came here upon recommendation of the hotel receptionist. He said they offered our hotel guests a discount and there have a homey atmosphere. It was a quick 5 minute walk. He was right! I enjoyed my Quebec Meat Pie Special very much. The meat pie crust was a little dark, but the inside meat was like a tender pot roast with chunks of potato. And the mushroom gravy was so delicious. I also enjoyed the roasted veggies - carrots, mushroom, tomato... (A friend tried the Meat Pie at another famous restaurant nearby & the inside was like hamburger!) The pea soup was like a ham & bean soup. The maple syrup pie was quite sweet and reminded me of pecan pie without the pecans, but the fresh fruits balanced the sweetness. All of the staff were so welcoming & friendly. I returned a few days later for breakfast and also had a very pleasant experience. I would definitely return & recommendation to others.

My group of 10 and I were looking for a quick lunch while exploring Carnaval just down the street. We were enticed by the 2 for $10 mimosa sign outside and quickly seated. The staff were quite nice offering to take a group photo for us (though one person was cut out of every photo lol), joking around, and chatting to our group. What we got: - Mimosas - French Onion Soup - Croque Monsieur Final Thoughts: Food was quite underwhelming besides the mimosa deal. I've had better onion soup and also almost choked on a bay leaf stem in my soup. The croque monsieur was kind of cold and dry. It also didn't seem to come with a bechamel sauce either so very different from our expectations. I would only come back for the mimosa deal.

The food was delicious. The tiramasu was excellent. The owner and servers were a lot of fun, we even sang parts of a few songs together. Highly recommend.

I loved the service and the food in this place. We went late at night. We were the last customers and didn't even feel like that at all. That day, we ordered desserts to go, and those were great too. In the morning we decided to go back there again and again the service and the food were great. It's definitely recommended, I might cross the border just to go get my Benedict Eggs breakfast again. Haha

Stoppednin as we were hungry and 6 looked good. Got the chicken sandwich, which is listed under the grilled cheese. And garlic cheese bread. The chocken was cold but tasted fine. There was a sauce on the sandwich I wasn't expecting. Came with a salad and cold fries. The garlic bread was good where the cheese was. The lady that was busing the tables was super nice and spoke great english.

$25 again for some dried out quiche

The place was OK. It's a tourist trap like every other restaurant in the area. It's high prices and American cheap food. $25 for a four egg omelette is ridiculous but the whole area to be fair is the same way you can't get anything under $20. Nothing is worth the price. It's pretty bad but to be fair. It's all the restaurants over there I hit a lot of of them and they are all ridiculously not worth it. Kind of disappointed I went to Old. Quebec felt like I was eating at a diner in the USA. I heard some other group complaining that the meat was inedible.

I was fortunate to have breakfast (well, it was lunchtime, but I ate breakfast) at Cafe Bistro l'Omelette twice during my stay in Quebec City at the end of April 2024. I thought the interior was quaint and charming. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The meals were freshly prepared and hot - and quite large for the price. The sausage they served was wonderful - such a thin, crispy skin, unlike American sausages with that skin that you have to gnaw through. You didn't have to wait long to eat. I also stopped in one night after a disappointing meal at another restaurant so that I could have some creme brulee, which did not disappoint. I would happily return if I can get back to Quebec City.

Watch out or you'll miss it! If you've been to old town Quebec City before, you'll know there is a plethora of restaurants. We were walking one morning on the search for breakfast and not wanting to stand in line at the apparent popular places. We happened upon L'omelette that was cute, quaint and without a line and plenty of open tables. Normally that's a bad sign, but we were hungry. We were greeted with very friendly staff members, shown a cute table for two with an open window looking out onto the street and offered conversation in English instead of French. (Much appreciated!). My husband had the waffles with a side of bacon and eggs but I was the smarter one and ordered the breakfast poutine. Yum!!!

    Smoked Meat Poutine

Just checked in at Le Château Frontenac and walked out about 7:30PM to get a bite to eat, needed to stretch my legs after an eight hour drive. Walked along Rue St-Louis. All the restaurants and cafes are packed and had waiting lines up the ying yang. I came across a 'small' line so got on queue, only to find out that the line was hidden going up the stairs. The most important thing was I was standing after a 8 hour drive. Finally got to the top of the stairs and was able to see inside, it was half empty, couldn't understand why the line. Finally I was seated, there were tables for four to the right and left of me all setup and empty. There were four sisters from the US behind me, they waited an additional 15 to 20 minutes to be seated on the table to the left on me - huhhh? I ordered Pâté Maison and Smoked Meat Poutine, wine or beer don't remember, too tired. The Pâté must have been a slice of store bought liverwurst - nothing to write home about. The smoked meat poutine was interesting. I did taste cloves, cinnamon, bayleaf and other spices. The cloves and cinnamon were the most pronounce. It was tasty & different, for me. Sad to say the poutine was a bust. The fries on the bottom, gravy, cheese curds and the the meat on top. The outside fries were somewhat crispy but the fries in the middle - mush, oh well (other establishments were able to have crispy fries with the gravy) In and case go elsewhere, if you can

Personally, it was a treat for me trying out something different, but I do not think everyone would appreciate its almost raw meat and liver-like texture. The Tartare comes with fries, a salad, and crouton to round up the order. We upgraded the side of fries that came with the Tartare into their Tout Cochon poutine. I was happy with that option that way I was able to sample their house poutine without needing to dedicate a full meal order for it. I can say this was among the best poutines I have had. The gravy was rich and flavourful. The poutine was also loaded with a variety of different proteins like the Gaspor farm ham and the bacon-wrapped sausage. The perron cheese curds also perfectly topped off the whole dish. Our last order was the Quebec pork chop marinated and grilled with maple and tamari. It was served with apple chutney, sweet potato mash, and seasonal vegetables. It is exactly as you would expect with the ingredient details of the dish's name. You get a lot of different flavour profiles and textures with the meal order. Some saltiness with the pork chop then some sweetness with the apple chutney. Meaty tenderness with the pork chop, mushiness with the potato mash, and then some slightly crunchiness with the seasonal vegetables. We dined on Sunday lunchtime the day before Family Day. There were people waiting to be seated by the time we arrived, but fortunately our group of only 2 people has a table spot available so did not need to wait. We were led down flights of stairs to the lower floor which was level with the street below. The whole place with its classic walls and decor exudes with classic charm.
