I'll start by saying we just came for cocktails so I can't speak to the food taste. The service around 5pm on a Saturday was pretty good. Our server did seem a bit miffed we were not ordering dinner, but we were at a high top in the bar area because we only wanted cocktails. He left us alone after delivering our drinks which was fine because we were playing a card game, but he also seemed to be ignoring us in favor of tables with higher tabs. The ambient sound was good, not too loud despite the restaurant being fairly full. The runners passed by our table with food that smelled heavenly and desserts that looked excellent. We would've gotten a small bite if we didn't have dinner reservations in under an hour. The drinks were good, average priced, and strong. Pretty water views from most tables. I got a martini with green olives still with the pits in it. Ridiculous. $17 martini and you can't even get cocktail olives? Let's just put it this way. The food was subpar. We came in just before the storm hits the town. I can hear the wind howling. The restaurant had good ambience, music and lighting to keep you warm and cozy. The waitress was friendly and made her best to speak French accent English with us and through the menu and questions on the drinks. We ordered different dishes and there were some good and miss and fun...(I will explain alter). Dessert Lemon meringue pie was awesome. Friends were happy about their main dishes. Appetizer, grilled squid, was disappointing by the look and we soon found out it was actually calamari steak. Not sure it was US vs French terminology on "squid". It was fresh and decent but if we knew it's calamari steak, we wouldn't order. Veal Liver was soft and cooked with wine. Also It was salty due to the sauce. They didn't cook off the wine fully, so; at the end of completing the dish, I was drunk... Other waitresses were nice to order the taxi for friends and I. Also the storm actually started to kick in when the taxi arrived. Friends were very happy to have the taxi taking us back to the hotel we stayed although it was intentional in the first place. (We walked about 1 mile or more from the hotel to the restaurant). Overall, yes, we will be back next time when we re-visit Quebec city. read more

We ordered the grilled squid, seafood chowder bowl, shrimp and lobster roll. and tuna tartare. Okay, it just goes to show you should always ask questions about what exactly the food is... The grilled squid turned out to be calamari steak and the tuna tartare was really just tuna poke! The seafood chowder was good, with a lot of seafood. Rivals clam chowder in San Francisco. The rest of the food was just average. The waitstaff was very nice and I would say out of all the restaurants we've been to in Canada they were the only ones who served us ice and refilled our waters! We went there on very cold Saturday for a late lunch. I got the golden beet and maple syrup soup and French fried. Both were out of this world. The soup was one of the best I ever had and the fries were cooked to perfection. My aunt and chum share a 2 pieces fish and chip. They say it was extremely good as well. Stole some of their tartare sauce (aioli ) for my fries and that put it over the top. I think the fries should come with the sauce. Overall, it was an excellent lunch. The view is superb, and they did very nicely accommodate us for the wheelchair Situation. Excellent waiter and price is reasonable. Also the pay for 2 hrs parking. read more

Firstly, we are not native French speakers and only 2 of us could speak at all, they were very nice about our lack skill and ordering in English was easy. It came with delicious vegetables (asparagus, carrot & tomato) and roasted potatoes with a sweet balsamic glaze. Delicious, one of the best duck leg confit I've ever had. SERVICE: Our waiter was charming, accommodating and very knowledgeable! He checked in with us, gave very helpful recommendations, and made light conversation, which was nice since we were visiting Quebec City at the time. VENUE: Le Café du Monde is located along the St. Lawrence river, above this nice porch area where live music was playing during our dinner. The restaurant is large, with indoor and outdoor tables, and is classy in decoration. We were able to relax and enjoy our time while looking out at the view. I expected a bit better, but overall the experience was satisfying to a good enough degree for me. The location of this place can be a problem if you're coming from Gare Fluviale, cause there are no signs leading to this restaurant. There is a giant sign if you're coming from Vieux Quebec, however. The exact location of this restaurant is the side of what looks like a ferry building, and there is no free parking here (unsurprisingly). All servers here speak excellent English, so translating is definitely not an issue. They have an English menu for the everyday items, but their blackboard specials are in French, and yes they will translate everything for you. We had the chef's soup of the day (tomato cream soup), lobster special, french onion soup decomposed, fillet special, oysters, and duck confit. The soup of the day, lobster special, and fillet special were all excellent. The french onion soup and duck confit were nothing special, but acceptable. The oysters we had were quite small compared to the other raw ones I've had. Dessert include a creme brulée and a chocolate mousse. The chocolate mousse was quite thick, but a little too cold considering its thickness. It would've been much better if the mousse was slightly warmer to melt with the thickness of the chocolate. Service started excellent, but the server seemed to have neglected us after we got our main courses. Eventually another server took over and took care of us to a satisfying degree, however we were charged an additional 15% in service fees, which wasn't printed on the receipt...instead it was written in addition to the print. Cafe du Monde was a very disappointing experience. Located in the cruise terminal building, the views over water can be nice, but the ambience is far from charming. What sets Le Cafe out however is the disappointing food. The Duck salad was dry and underwhelming and the Artic char arrived cold. Appetizers were adequate but far from good.With the numerous options in this beautiful city I would leave Le Cafe to the cruise ship passengers. read more

Most of the bad reviews for this place are regarding the service. Well our server "Ben" was a delight and the food was wonderful. We ordered most of what he suggested and it was all excellent. We had the roasted cod, the salmon tartare, the French onion soup. And also the kid's salmon plate (what an amazing kids plate!). Most children's dishes in the US are skimpy and not much a pinnacle of health but this was hearty and wonderful. Then to dessert where we had the chocolate pudding, creme brulee and chocaut.. all amazing. We loved this place and the view of the river is enchanting! read more

Ended up getting a lobster roll, steak and creme brule for $37. Eventhough I ended up paying more for dinner, it was absolutely worth it. The lobster roll was nice and creamy and had so much flavor. The steak was so soft and tender that the knife just slid through it with ease. And the dessert was awesome that you just wanted more. We were here in June and were surprised to see a completely packed restaurant on a rainy Sunday evening. Our waiter initially spoke to us in French (as they always do in Quebec). I spoke a little French with him then he started speaking English with me. He was attentive although a but slow at times. Given that the restaurant was full, this was understandable. The food was very good and I loved the pepper sauce for the steak. Overall an enjoyable dining experience, but the prices are expensive compared to other similar restaurants in Quebec City. read more

For what it's worth, this restaurant is classy. A little hard to find as it's in the same area as the cruise terminal, but nice to bring friends and family for weekend brunches. That being said, the portions are smaller for the pricing, yet the quality of food is unmistakably Québécois. We had the charcuterie board and also tried the duck paté creme brûlée, which I was surprised to find delicious on their menu. If you're not as adventurous, they also have fish and chips as well. After arriving at Quebec city, we asked the staff and porters where a good place for a quick lunch would be and they all agreed on Cafe Du Monde and for good reason. The view from the patio is absolutely amazing and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very unique. Service is great and the food was very good although it might be a bit pricier as it's in the touristy area. The matchstick fries were a great addition to the toulouse sausage and the lobster ravioli was tasty as well. The chicken caesar salad was a bit disappointing and the sauce was a bit strange but I'll consider that an anomaly as the rest of the food was pretty good. If you're looking for a good place to relax and look over the St. Laurence river then Cafe Du Monde is a great place to start. P.S. They serve brunch as well! read more

Oooh. Is it like the one in New Orleans? Uh, no. But that's ok. The food is a big hit both for adults and kids. We really enjoyed the duck rotisserie. Juicy and tender meat and lots of it. The duck confit was good but we would just get the rotisserie next time. Kids enjoyed their dishes as well. Service was friendly and this place felt more classic french bistro -- in a good way. The inside is a little sterile, the location a bit out of the way, and the prices a little high. But overall, we enjoyed the meal. Not our favorite in Quebec but far from the worst either. read more

I have to say I was unimpressed with the food for the amount we payed. Nothing was particularly standout- it's not "bad" per se, but in my head I'm reviewing where I've had a better version of what I'm eating for less. This is actually a little more upscale than you would think - the clientele are more mature and a tad dressier than the folks at similarly priced places in Montreal and Quebec City. Cocktail menu was mediocre- classics like bloody caesars, manhattans, and so on. Had the blood caesar, pretty standard. Quite an extensive wine list though which is a highlight but I'm not a wine drinker (heresy!) Bread was cold but served with lovely paddled butter balls. Steak tartare was highlight of this meal- quite delicious and refreshing but not necessarily worth traveling far for. Now for the stain that warranted such a low review: my steak frites was the most depressing steak frites I've ever seen. lukewarm shoestring fries, a thin overcooked steak for a whopping 34 dollars. I ordered medium rare and it came out well-done. I was on a schedule so I couldn't be bothered to send it back so ate it I did. Service is fantastic though, one of the cheeriest, most attentive servers I've ever met. Stateside, restaurants that attract this type of clientele tend to have pretentious, ornery servers that neglect younger people that don't look like Mr. Moneybags. Another redeeming factor: fantastic view of the St. Lawrence. I can imagine how divine it would be to dine here during a summer sunset with people bustling around the harbor. We on the other hand are a couple of masochists who visit Canada during the winter. Long story short, great location, great service, mediocre overpriced food. read more

I tried the breakfast chia and it was just okay. My husband got the pancake and eggs. They were precooked and it was a disappointment to my husband. The view was 5 stars, but the food was 3 stars. What an absolutely delightful place to take in the view of the St. Lawrence River! I arrived at Le Café du Monde after attending an awesome free walking tour of Quebec City. I was starving after walking up and down all the hills. Note that this was a few months ago, before the wintry weather took hold- it was a beautiful sunny day in late September. I was greeted by the cheerful hostess who found me a seat outside with a gorgeous view. My waiter was a super-friendly older gent who recommended a beer. I happily got the beer since it was so warm outside and I was very thirsty! For my meal, ever conscious of my budget, I ordered the croque monsieur, which was only about $13. To my surprise, this was served with French fries and a small salad. It was so relaxing to sit and watch the ships. My meal was tasty and very affordable, about $20 for the whole thing, including the great view and pleasant staff! read more
