Breakfast order, omelette, one scrambled egg on the side, pain perdu.

Quick and friendly service. Excellent location, with lots of views and people watching. Food was good, and as described. Only negative or the French toast (pain perdu) is that the dome of "whipped cream" on top was an oil based artificial product.

My dad really wanted to eat in the building with the red roof so we did. Inside it's actually huge, we had a mission to find the restroom. We sat on the patio and our server came and took our drink order. I had a sangria which was really good. I decided I wanted to try local cuisine so I had French onion soup to start which was great, my dad got the tartare. I've had it many times before and it never quite looked or tasted like this, it wasn't bad but very strong onion and pepper flavor. For mains I asked for the duck poutine starter and the fries, gravy and curds were standard but the duck didn't have much flavor. My dad got the pork chop and said it was amazing. My mum got a chicken and shrimp pasta, she said it was very herby tasting, like a garden was in there but the meat was cooked well. The view of the Fairmont is great and our server was really nice and friendly and helpful. I'd go back and try some other menu items if I was in the area

This place initially gave off tourist-trap vibes but I'm all for it! It was in such a good location in Old Quebec and I liked the patio area (great for people watching - lol), though we did end up dining inside instead since it was a little chilly. The inside has lots of seating. There is a flight of stairs to get to the washroom - just something to keep in mind if you have accessibility issues. I didn't ask if there was a more convenient bathroom on the ground floor. Servers were attentive and friendly. We got the soup, steak frites, salmon, and pork. The portions were bigger than I expected. Steak was slightly overcooked. The salmon was actually great & not dry. My favourite was the soup. Soo creamy and savoury!

I visited this restaurant in October 2024 so my review is a bit overdue. I initially didn't want to dine here because it looked like it had too much of a tourist vibe but I actually liked how it had a lively and comfy atmosphere and the foods were pretty decent. The foods had bold flavors and the portions sizes were good, too.

Delicious lunch spot and very filling! We didn't eat the rest of the day after this meal and walked the city for hours! We started with the escargot, which was sooo delicious. Butter, garlicky, and cheesy. Best intro to escargot if someone is interested in trying it. It was another below freezing day in Quebec and a burger sounded like a perfect hearty meal... and it was. the burger plate was huge and the blue cheese on it was tasty. It was a slower day in the city so the waiters gave out complementary crème brûlée which was a lovely surprise. It had a nice maple flavor to make it unique. The only downside was one of our cups was dirty but the rest of the experience out weighed that.

Our New Year Eve Eve dinner took place at this beautiful restaurant across from the chateau. It was magical looking at the lighted-up chateau from the window with French music playing in the background. We also got seated right next to the Christmas tree!! There was a musician played the piano. I appreciated the music and the artist so much that I was the first one to clap my hands. Everyone seemed to love their job there. The pianist played with passion and joy while the waiter was going out of his way to make us happy! When I was struggling trying to remember the name of a song, he told me it was Bésame Mucho The way of cooking seemed to be more modern than the other French fine dining places so to be honest, at first, I didn't expect I would love the food as much as I did. My partner had a hamburger and my kids had their most favorite French fries and pizza I had escargots which were off the shells so at first I didn't expect much (I always respect anything classy and traditional) but it was actually more tasty than the other place!! I had duck confit all the way in Quebec City. My pasta with duck confit in orange sauce was to die for!!

Phenomenal experience. Amazing food, extraordinary service, breathtaking views. This restaurant is a diamond. Hubby raved about his Poutine appetizer and Beef Jowl entree. I loved my Escargot appetizer and Seafood Pasta. Our server went above and beyond. We were in a hurry because the Airline lost our luggage and we needed to buy clothes at Simon's before they closed for the night. She rushed our order out to us and we couldn't have been happier. Sitting on the patio offers unbelievable views of Château Frontenac. Simply incredible.

Great restaurant and located just down the street from hotel. The service was fantastic. The food even better. The duck confit was awesome as was the Wall Eye. Finish with the Creme Brulee.

It is a restaurant located in a historic 17th-century building in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Situated on Rue Saint-Anne, it is located across Place d'Armes from the Château Frontenac. it looks amazing, especially in the rain and at night. We were relaxing at Duffin Terrace and got a craving for coffee, I googled and found a couple of cafes, but this one looked very beautiful. It was not a rush time, so got the table easily. We did enjoy the view of Chateau Frontenac, sitting outside having sips of great coffee. I thought I would come back for dinner but bad luck, it was pouring really bad... nevertheless, enjoyed the history, food, vibe, and culture at this amazing bistro.

What a great spot. Food is delicious, service was great. We tried their pizza and it was great. There is a pool table in the back. Found it on tiktok. There is outside tables as well. Recommend the escargot.

It was past 12:30pm and chilly rainy afternoon. We went to a restaurant near where we were and it was packed with people. We were seated at a large table and behind us, there were interesting wine displays. As soon as sat down, we asked for French onion soup. Asked how the portions is. The waitress said, it's not that big, like a cup in English with French accent. She was so welcoming and kind. So we ordered one for each but it was more like a bowl filled with rich mozzarella cheese. For party of four, we ordered two pasta dishes, a hamburger and a pizza. My dad ordered beer, mom ordered pepsi, my cousin ordered drafted beer and I ordered red wine. Food came out very slowly and we enjoyed every single bite. We stayed there for more than 2 hours to finish our food. If you are in rush, I don't recommend this place. So the food was really good and the service was beyond my expectations. Our waitress was very friendly and helped out with our drinks and food. We followed her recommends and they were awesome. The portions weren't too small so we had to take whole pizza to go. The price is rather reasonable for the location and fame of this restaurant. The atmosphere was very classy and upscaled. Full of customers so the reservation is highly recommend. It was such a relxing, warm experience, I recommend Bistro 1640.

Great vibes, the one dish I ordered (eggs Benedict poutine) was perfect for two people. High quality eggs, potatoes perfectly cooked down, delicious sausage. I only ordered one thing but it was perfect.

Right years ago my family and I got into Quebec late on a cold December night. We walked across the green to Bistro 1640 and had a great memorable meal and what really stood out was the French onion soup. We recently went back and it was a good as we remembered, even the onion soup! The food was great! The cocktails are innovative and good. We've decided that this is our family's favorite restaurant anywhere

With the dynamic trio of Philippe Racine, Philippe Fournier, and Andréa Beauseigle at the helm, this newly minted bistro is not just a meal; it's an experience that speaks to the heart of local gastronomy. As we stepped into the inviting atmosphere of Bistro St. Malo, we were immediately struck by the relaxed ambience that feels both chic and comforting. The decor is a perfect marriage of rustic elegance and modern flair, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The menu, crafted with both passion and precision, beckoned us to explore a variety of tempting dishes. We kicked off our culinary journey with the Mussels Marinière, bathed in a heavenly concoction of wine and garlic. Each bite was a succulent reminder of the sea, perfectly paired with crusty bread that could easily become a new best friend. Next on the list was the Soupe à l'Oignon, a classic French onion soup that was nothing short of a warm hug in a bowl. The rich broth, adorned with a gooey layer of melted cheese, transported us straight to a cozy Parisian bistro. Now, if you think escargots are just a fancy way to say "snails," think again. The Escargots Gratinés at Bistro St. Malo are a revelation, baked to perfection with a garlicky herb butter that made us rethink our long-held beliefs about these little treasures. For the main event, we indulged in the Joue de Bœuf sauce Robert, a sous-vide masterpiece that had been lovingly cooked for 30 hours. The beef cheek was so tender it practically melted on the fork, paired with a creamy potato purée and vegetables roasted in duck fat--a dish that could make even the most steadfast vegetarian reconsider their choices. We couldn't resist diving into the Ragoût de la Mer, a seafood stew that was a celebration of the ocean's bounty. With scallops, shrimp, lobster, cod, tuna, and salmon mingling in a rich bisque, this dish was a symphony of flavors that sang the praises of the fresh local products so central to the bistro's philosophy. Bistro St. Malo is more than just a meal; it's a culinary journey that pays homage to both French tradition and the vibrant tastes of the Mediterranean. If you find yourself wandering the charming streets of Quebec City, do yourself a favor and make your way to 75 St-Paul Street. You might just discover your new favorite dining spot.

Both of us opted for the table d'hôte menu, which included an appetizer, main course, dessert, and tea or coffee. We happily paid the small supplement to begin with the Duck Foie Gras served with strawberry-rhubarb jam and brioche--a decision we did not regret for a second. The foie gras was rich and silky, while the sweet-tart jam provided a beautiful contrast. For our entrées, I chose the Pulled Rabbit Poutine with devil's sauce. Comfort food elevated to another level, it was hearty, flavorful, and utterly satisfying. My dining partner selected the Cassoulet with duck sausage and duck leg confit. While the duck was excellent, it was the beans that stole the show--perfectly cooked, deeply flavored, and exactly what a great cassoulet should be. We finished with desserts: a traditional Far Breton for me and a beautifully executed Crème Brûlée for my dining partner. Both were wonderful endings to an already excellent meal. The service was warm and attentive, the ambiance charming and inviting, and the food delicious from beginning to end. Located in the heart of Old Québec, Lapin Sauté is exactly the kind of restaurant travelers hope to discover--authentic, welcoming, and serving food that leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended, and we would gladly return on our next visit to Québec City.

We were underdressed, but the host basically was like "the dress code is only for the waitstaff, you are fine." So the place is definitely welcoming and had a nice vibe. Most of the tables spoke French but there was one other larger group also composed of English speakers. Waitstaff was fully bilingual though the vibe of the place is more Francophone than Quebec tourist. The food is cooked technically very well, though the portions are small, particularly our scallop appetizer which was maybe 2 scallops. The food was very good, but for the price it wasn't amazing, amazing. My wife said her trout for example was a bith mushy. I had the beef and it was very good. I'd happily it that and the scallop dish (maybe I'd order two, lol) again. Cocktails were also very good. Then there was the pre-dinner mackrel rolled in seaweed. Totally fine but an odd choice to give to all the diners. Also, the bread was only so-so (I got a better loaf tonight at Farm Boy) and the pepper butter and fois-gras butter were sort of tasteless. Again this is a solid restaurant and despite being 'fancy' had a very unpretentious vibe about it, which I appreciated. But the price feels a bit high, and the service was quite slow. So for me, it is a 4, but except for a restaurant I ate with friends in Montreal in 2018 (the name of which I am forgetting) and a really excellent spot on Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the it is probably the best restaurant I've eaten at in Quebec.

This is a very small place, cozy and atmospheric. If there are just two of you, sitting at the bar is the way to go. It's where you really feel the vibe and see what makes this place so special. The food is off the hook, and changes so frequently that it's pointless for me to highlight specific dishes. We had an amazing charred broccolli, a seasonal morel dish, razor clams, and unique egg mayo concoction. Doesn't matter. the food will be exceptional whatever they are serving. Thier Michelin Bib Gourmand (exceptional food at reasonable prices) designation is well deserved. But if the soul of Buvette Scott is the food, the heart is Marine, who appeared to be the only server on duty while we were there. She is a transplanted Brit (I believe), with a quick smile and a sassy outlook. Even as busy as she was, she had the time to engage us and make us feel like we were old friends. Stories were told, laughing was had. We were the last two left from the first dinner seating that day, and Marine and part of the kitchen team sat at the bar with us as we finished and shared insights about Quebec City and how they ended up there. Rarely have I felt so comfortable and at home in a place I have never been before. Really good restaurants serve up really good food... But truly great restaurants provide an experience that impacts you on many levels, and holds a place in your memory. Buvette Scott is a truly great restaurant.
